Leo Sayer’s Tour Halted As He Is Hospitalised Due To Sudden Illness

Renowned pop singer Gerard Hugh “Leo” Sayer has been hospitalised for several weeks due to a sudden illness. The 75-year-old icon, known for his chart-topping hits such as “When I Need You,” expressed his regret to fans that he was unable to travel from his Australian residence to the UK due to unforeseen health issues.

Leo Sayer, who was born in Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton and Hove, England, gained popularity during the 1970s and early 1980s, spending a total of 151 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. His first seven hit singles in the UK all reached the Top 10, cementing his success in the music industry.

In a recent Facebook post, Leo provided an update on his health, revealing that he was still receiving treatment in an Australian hospital for kidney, bladder, and prostate complications. Despite not having shared his condition publicly before, Leo expressed his gratitude for the support and well wishes he has received from his fans during this difficult time.

He said “I’m so sorry to have disappointed my fans but these things can happen to us 75 year olds! I’m still in hospital now but well on the mend. I will take a necessary short break from activities and be back fighting fit for shows in 2024. – particularly my UK and Ireland tour next autumn. Thank you everyone for all your concerns and good wishes…”

Leo’s fans took to Facebook to comment on his post sending their well wishes. One fan had this to say,“Take care & take your time to get really well and strong again to rock the stages…. Best wishes.” and another said, “Wishing you a speedy and full recovery Leo. Looking forward to your next UK tour whenever that takes place.”

His last significant success came in 2006, when DJ Meck remixed his timeless track “Thunder In My Heart”, propelling it to the top of the UK charts

but Sayer remained in the limelight when in 2007, his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother garnered a new generation of fans, as he became part of one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history. This occurred when Channel 4 declined to provide him with clean underwear.

Sayer’s latest album, Selfie, was released in 2019, recorded in the peaceful surroundings of his Queensland home with his wife, Donatella Piccinetti.

Leo is yet to confirm when he will be back on the road, along with new tour dates for 2024.

LF System Top UK Singles Chart For Whole Month With ‘Afraid To Feel’

The UK Official Charts have confirmed that LF System’s “Afraid To Feel” has been named this week’s number one album, meaning that the band have spent a whole month at the top spot. The dance duo’s breakthrough single has acquired over 49,000 chart sales including 5.4 million streams, due to these impressive figures “Afraid To Feel” has also been named this week’s most digitally downloaded song.

Before jetting off to Spain for a set on 7th August 2022, LF System are scheduled to play in Glasgow tonight. The duo are then billed to play a set in Ireland on 13th August 2022 at Monroe’s with support from Conall Haugh and Origin DJs. On 19th August 2022, the group are to perform at the East London venue Night Tales. The band’s series of Summer concerts are set to conclude on 20th August 2022 with a performance in Cardiff.

The hitmakers’ tour schedule includes various dates within September including a set at Edinburg’s Fly Open Air outdoor event on 16th September 2022. The upcoming festival is set to take place on 16th-18th September and will be held at the historic Edinburgh Castle. Also set to take the stage are a roster full of acts including Palms Trax, Big Miz and Ben Hemsley plus many more acts to be announced. After three more appearances, LF System will perform at Manchester’s Warehouse project on 29th October 2022.

The track has been named this week’s highest new entry and its chart success marks the singer’s highest placing single in the UK. The artist last cracked the top 5 in 2021 with the single “Obsessed With You”, upon release the single charted at number 4. Released on 21st July 2022, “Doja” includes heavy sampling of the 2001 track “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” by Eve featuring Gwen Stefani. Due to its catchy hooks and lyrical content, the song instantly went viral on the popular app TikTok.

Also making an impression within the UK singles charts is “Snap” by Armenian Eurovision contender Rosa Linn. The Eurovision entry has placed within the UK top 40 for the very first time and has a position at number 26. After the track’s appearance in the contest, The Armenian singer-songwriter’s track has become a worldwide viral success on social media. Netflix’s popular TV show Stranger Things has played an important role within the UK charts this year; this has been seen within the revived interest in Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”. Another track has now been given the same treatment and has consequently re-entered the UK top 40 singles charts due to its use within a pivotal scene. “Master of Puppets” by iconic metal group Metallica has placed within the charts after being originally released 36 years ago.

The UK Official Charts have confirmed that “Master Of Puppets” has placed at number 22 within this week’s UK singles charts, its peak position after initially re-entering the charts. The track first re-appeared within the UK singles charts last week when it placed at number 47, the influential song’s resurgence is cited to its use within the second chapter of the fourth season of Stranger Things. The scene which features “Master Of Puppets” sees break-out character Eddie Munson perform the song whilst saving the world with the gift of rock.

The band themselves have also weighed in on their 1986 single’s newfound fame, Metallica stated, “[We’re] beyond psyched for them to not only include Master of Puppets in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away. It’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?”

The official UK singles chart has been making headlines recently due to two singles; “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush and “As It Was” by former One Direction band member Harry Styles. Last week Bush placed at number two and Styles remained at the top of the charts for the tenth consecutive week.

The UK official charts have predicted that Bush’s iconic track will overtake “As It Was” and end Styles’ chart reign, “Running Up That Hill” has seen a recent resurgence in popularity due to its use within the new season of Stranger Things. After the new season of the show dropped the track went viral, many have praised the popular Netflix series for exposing younger fans to the song. Originally released in 1985, the track jumped an impressive six places to position just below Styles’ chart-topping single. If Bush climbs one more chart placement the single will mark her first number one single in over forty years, the singer last topped the UK singles charts in 1978 with the seminal song “Wuthering Heights”.

This week’s single chart also sees Styles score another Official Chart Double; the partner album for “As It Was” has charted at the top of the UK album charts. The singer’s recently released album Harry’s House has placed at number one for the second consecutive week, Styles’ third studio album also contains another commercially successful track. It has been confirmed that Harry Styles has secured an Official Charts record. The singer has scored a chart double, a rare achievement reached only by the most successful of artists. Such a record was last seen in 2021 by Ed Sheeran, who achieved the Official Chart Double with ”Merry Christmas” the festive collaboration with Sir Elton John and the his fifth studio album =.

The former One Direction member’s new album Harry’s House debuted at the number one position within this week’s album charts. Completing the chart double, Styles also secured this week’s number one single with “As It Was”, marking eight consecutive weeks at the top spot. The English singer songwriter released his top charting album on 20th March 2022 via Columbia and Erskine Records, Harry’s House marks Styles’ third studio album and was received with great critical and commercial success.

The Official charts have confirmed that the album has sired over 113,00 chart sales making the release this year’s fastest selling album to date, a record last held by Adele for her album 30. The album’s impressive chart sales also mark a personal best for the singer, Harry’s House has become the singer’s more profitable opening week. In 2017, the singer’s debut album achieved 57,000 UK chart sales within its first week and in 2019 Styles’ first week for Fine Line sired 49,000 chart sales. The singer’s recently released album has also placed at the top of this week’s Official Vinyl Album chart, the album secured the top spot by outselling the remaining of the top 40 combined.

Styles’ chart-topping album’s lead single has also proved its selling power with over 80,000 chart sales. After eight weeks at number one “As It Was” has been crowned the longest running number one single of this year thus far. With over 8.9 million streams, the single has overtaken its opening week’s count and has also been crowned this week’s most streamed single in the UK.

With the release of Harry’s House, Styles has also dominated this week’s singles charts, all of this week’s top three singles are taken from the singer’s new album. The second track to be taken from the album was released on 20th May 2022, “Late Night Talking” has placed at number two within this week’s singles charts. It has been confirmed that Harry Styles has secured a seventh week at number one within the UK singles chart; the singer’s hit “As It Was” has remained this week’s number one single. Styles’ popular track has racked up over 6.4 million streams track and has been crowned the longest running number one single of this year thus far. “As It Was” shares this title with “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” taken from Disney’s Encanto.

This week saw a tough competition to claim the UK’s number one single, with Styles’ smash hit and Eurovision contender Sam Ryder’s “Space Man” going head-to-head to reach the throne. Placing at number two within the charts, the latter was the UK’s 2022 entry into the Eurovision song contest and placed second within the Grand Final results. This week’s chart placement marks the first Eurovision entry to chart high in over twenty-five years, Gina G’s “Ooh Ahh.. Just A Little Bit” last took the charts by storm in 1996.

Originally released on 22nd February 2022, “Space Man” has also been named the UK’s most downloaded song of the week and has placed at number one within the Official Download Chart. Eurovision is my favourite thing in the world – I’m so stoked that I got to be a part of this story with my friends and my team.”

Ryder then continued to discuss the chart competition with Styles and the final placement of his single, “I feel like what Harry stands for, as a fan of his and listening to his music, he stands for the same things that Eurovision celebrates; a freedom of expression, of inclusivity. It has been confirmed that Harry Styles has secured a sixth consecutive week at number one, the singer’s single “As It Was” has topped this week’s UK singles charts. Along with its longstanding top placement “As It Was” has remained the UK’s most streamed track, racking up over 6.8 million streams.

The chart-topping track was released on 1st April 2022 and is the lead single from Styles’ third solo album Harry’s House. The single’s long running chart success began soon after its release, debuting as the UK’s number one single. The track was co-written by Styles and the release’s producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson, American producer and engineer Johnson worked with Styles on his debut self-titled solo album. Styles’ recently released track is the singer’s second song to place at number one, in 2017 the singer scored his first number one single with “Sign Of The Times”.

Elsewhere within the charts, “First Class” by American rapper Jack Harlow has also remained in the top 5, placing at number two for the fifth consecutive week. Released on 8th April 2022 via Atlantic and Generation Now, the single is the second track to be released from the singer’s second studio album Come Home The Kids Miss You. Placing at number three within this week’s singles charts is “Go” by London based musician Cat Burns, after spending seventeen weeks on the charts the single reached its peak position this week. Lizzo and Styles recently made headlines with their surprise duet at this year’s Coachella festival, both artists have placed within this week’s top five. The lead single taken from Lizzo’s upcoming album has placed at number four, “About Damn Time” was released on 14th April 2022 and went viral earlier in the year through the app TikTok.

Closing the top five this week is Mercury Prize award winning artist Dave, the British rapper’s single “Starlight” was released on 3rd March 2022. The track debuted at number one within the UK singles charts and remained at the top spot for four weeks. The single features a sample of the 1954 canonised track “Fly Me To The Moon” and was self-produced by the artist.

Upcoming British singer-songwriter Mimi Webb has scored her highest placement within this week’s singles charts. “House On Fire” has placed at number six. Official Charts have confirmed that the 21-year-old singer’s new single has debuted within the top ten and is this week’s highest new entry. Webb took to Instagram to celebrate her newest breakthrough within the single’s top ten.

Speaking with OfficialCharts.com Webb celebrates her win whilst thanking her fans for their support: “It’s crazy seeing the response to this song. The fans absolutely love it […]I’m just going for it and having a laugh. It’s such a cool song to start the year with.”

The singer’s newest single was released on 18th February 2022 via Epic Records accompanied by a music video directed by KLVDR. The single is being heralded for its crossover appeal and is now regarded as one of the studio’s most successful soundtracks. The soundtrack’s popularity can be accredited to its writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, the multi-talented artist responsible for the widely popular production Hamilton. The soundtrack’s success is further cemented within this week’s UK singles chart, “Surface Pressure” has placed at number three, marking the second single taken from the soundtrack to chart within the top five.

At number two this week is “Peru” by Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran, the single has spent eleven weeks within the charts and has peaked at second place. It has been confirmed that “Merry Christmas” by Sir Elton John and Ed Sheeran is this week’s number one single within the UK singles charts. This week marks the single’s third week at the top spot, the track’s chart placement also makes “Merry Christmas” the last number-one single of 2021. The release has beat out many festive favourites to the top spot including last week’s number one single “Sausage Rolls For Everyone”. Last week’s charts saw LadBaby’s new track bump “Merry Christmas” to number two to win the festive crown. OfficialCharts took to Instagram to post the full list of this week’s official UK top 10 singles.

This year saw LadBaby release their fourth annual comical charity track, “Sausage Rolls For Everyone” was released on 17th December 2021 and debuted at number one. This year the YouTube artists chose to record a parody of Sir John and Sheeran’s Christmas single and promised the track’s proceeds to The Trussell Trust. The two singles went head-to-head for Christmas number one despite holding a close relationship, Sir John and Sheeran made cameos in the parody version’s music video. Despite the record-breaking sales and streams incurred, “Sausage Rolls For Everyone” has dropped to number 29 within the charts this week.

Along with this week’s number one single, Sheeran has also claimed this week’s number one album with Equals. Due to both successes, Sheeran has been awarded the Official UK Chart double. The accolade is an impressive prize only rewarded to artists with considerable chart success within the singles and albums charts. OfficialCharts took to Instagram to announce the good news and congratulate Sheeran on his success.

This is not the first time Sheeran has received the award, in 2017 the singer achieved great chart success with the number one album Divide which sired the singles “Perfect” and “Shape Of You”. Other artists who have reached this feat include Adele for “Easy On Me” and number one album 30 and Sam Smith for his album In The Lonely Hour and the single “Lay Me Down”.

Elsewhere within the chart, the festive theme has remained apparent. The remaining tracks placed within the top 5 are all Christmas classics and consistent chart re-entries within the festive season. “Last Christmas” by Wham has placed at number two, and is often included in lists of most played Christmas songs and was originally released in 1985. At number three is “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, which has remained a classic holiday party track since its initial release in 1994.

One of the season’s more alternative classics has also placed within the top 5. “Fairytale of New York” by Pogues featuring Kirsty Maccoll has placed at number four, the Irish- folk-inspired ballad was released on 23rd November 1987 and regularly re-enters the charts during the festive period. Closing off the top 5 is one of the season’s more canonised tracks, “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee has charted at number 5. The track was written by Johnny Marks and recorded by Lee in 1958 and has sold over 25 million copies worldwide.

Ed Sheeran’s Single “Shivers” Remains At Number One For Third Time

Ed Sheeran’s most recent single “Shivers” remains at number one within the UK charts. This week marks the third time the single has reached the top spot.

Sheeran took to Twitter to announce his triple win.

The single holds tight onto the number one award within this week’s Official Singles Chart. The release has sired over 64,000 chart sales and appears to be holding its own against other single releases. Sheeran’s single has beat out Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa’s duet “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)“, which remains at number two for a second time. With only 2,500 chart sales behind “Shivers”, the two singles have been fighting it out for the number one spot. “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)” marks John’s highest-charting release since his 2003 single “Are You Ready For Love”. The new single has been taken from John’s upcoming new album The Lockdown Sessions, which includes many other collaborations.

“Shivers” was released on 10th September 2021 via Asylum Records UK and the single has achieved chart success since its debut. The release was the second single to be taken from Sheeran’s upcoming album. The album’s initial and lead single release, “Bad Habits”, was released on 25th June 2021. The lead single spent numerous weeks at the top of the Official UK singles charts. The “Shape Of You” singer’s forthcoming fifth studio album = is set to be released on 29th October 2021 via Asylum Records and Atlantic Records.

Released alongside “Shivers” was a new music video, which stared Sheeran and actress Anna Sophia Robb. Within the video, Sheeran impersonates fellow singer and chart rival, Sir Elton John. The video was directed by Dave Meyers, who also directed the video for “Bad Habits”.

Elsewhere in the charts this week, the number three spot was taken by a new entry. The duet between Coldplay and BTS entitled “My Universe” debuted within the top three. With over 27,000 pure sales, the single has been crowned the week’s highest seller within digital downloads and CDs. And with 21,400 of the pure sales from digital downloads, the single has incurred the largest single week for downloads for a song in 2021 so far. The hotly anticipated single also gained traction within the Official Irish charts, making the single Coldplay’s highest-charting release for four years in Ireland.

At number four this week, CKay rises from number nine with his single “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)”, making the release the singer-songwriter’s first top-five position. The Nigerian singer’s release is the fourth track to be taken from his second EP entitled Ckay The First. Wrapping up the top five sees “Obsessed With You” by British rapper Central Cee, the single dropped down one position to number five this week.
