Some of O’Connor’s cancelled live dates include a performance at Heineken Big Top in Galway, Iveagh Gardens in Dublin, All Together Now in Portlaw and Bospop in the Netherlands.

O’Connor’s team issued a statement on the matter, saying: “This has not been an easy decision for Sinead but a decision she has had to make for her own health and well being at this time. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Sinead’s worldwide agency ICM who have handled this with the utmost respect and dignity and have worked tirelessly… We would also extend our gratitude for the continuing support and understanding of local and international promoters. Thank you also to Sinead’s friends and fans whose support and understanding we hold in the highest esteem throughout this period. The love being shown has been a source of great comfort and peace for Sinead.”

Shane O’ Connor, 17, passed in January after going missing from Newbridge in County Kildare, Ireland. Sinead O’Connor posted online regarding his death, according to NME: “26 hours after my son died in the so called care of the Irish State in the form of Tusla, I have yet to receive any contact from Tusla or their representatives. I was informed by Gardai of my son’s death and later I spoke with the GAL. No contact from Tusla is unacceptable.”

She later added on to her prior statement: “The issue is, we are a third world country…We have 12 beds in special care for suicidal teenagers. And no resources to save those who can’t manage life. 128 icu beds in the whole Country…Tusla did their best. We all did: and I am deeply sorry to have blamed anyone.”

We here at MXDWN UK offer our sincerest condolences to the O’Connor family in this deeply painful time.

Sinead O’Connor has now announced she will not be quitting the music industry after she stated she would be retiring in a shock announcement last week.

The singer-songwriter announced her retirement from music last week via Twitter, as she expressed her forthcoming album “No Veteran Dies Alone” will be her last. She has now rescinded her plans for retirement in a statement released via her personal Twitter account, as she explains how the announcement was a “knee jerk reaction” to a series of triggering interviews with the press.

Last Saturday (5 June 2021), O’Connor wrote on Twitter: “This is not sad news. It’s staggeringly beautiful news. A warrior knows when he or she should retreat. It’s been a forty year journey. Time to put the feet up and make other dreams come true.” Since last weeks shock announcement, the artist has released a second statement explaining why she is retracting her retirement. Describing those who had posed insensitive questions to her during interviews as “pigs in lipstick,” the Irish singer wrote: “I said I was retiring. As I have said many times before in knee jerk reactions when I was young and made the butt of media abuse on the grounds I’m legally vulnerable. The hugest misconception (I’m always asked this but never answer) of ‘Sinead O’Connor’ is that she is Amazonian. I’m not. I’m a five-foot, four-inch soft-hearted female who is actually very fragile.”

She continued: “But I love my job. Making music that is. I don’t like the consequences of being a talented (and outspoken woman) being that I have to wade through walls of prejudice every day to make a living. But I am born for live performance and with the astonishing love and support I have received in the last few days and will continue to receive from Rob Prinz and all at ICM, as well as many managers and buyers and fans, I feel safe in retracting my expressed wish to retire.”

The artist also criticised BBC’s Woman’s Hour in her latest statement, writing: “Last Tuesday it was unnecessary and hurtful for Woman’s Hour of all people, to remind me of the awfully abusive statement written about me by an Irish man for a UK paper…When people wonder what derailed my career? The UK and Irish UK papers’ constant abuse and invalidation of me on the grounds I may or may not have been diagnosed by them as ‘mad’. As if mad makes you invalid.”

Sinead O’Connor’s eleventh studio album “No Veteran Dies Alone” will be released in January 2022, although an exact date is yet to be confirmed.

Sinead O’Connor has announced her retirement from music and touring, the Irish singer-songwriter has made the announcement through a series of social media posts. Within the posts, she has confirmed that her recent album ‘No Veterans Die Alone’ due to be released in January 2022, will be her last release.

In an initial tweet from the singer’s account, she announced her retirement stating time and tiredness as the central reasons for her decision to leave the music industry.

This is to announce my retirement from touring and from working in the record business. I’ve gotten older and I’m tired. So it’s time for me to hang up my nipple tassels, having truly given my all. NVDA in 2022 will be my last release. And there’ll be no more touring or promo.

— Sinead O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat) (@MagdaDavitt77) June 4, 2021

The 54-year-old singer then posted another tweet, which comforts fans by describing how the decision is not bad and that she simply needs to have respite.

It’s not sad news. It’s staggeringly beautiful news. A wise warrior knows when he or she should retreat: #MeTime ❤️ — Sinead O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat) (@MagdaDavitt77) June 4, 2021

The ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer then proceeds to tweet seemingly reminiscing on her four-decade-long career. She again stresses the decision is based on obtaining some rest whilst helping others achieve their goals.

It’s been a forty year journey. Time to put the feet up and make other dreams come true ; )

— Sinead O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat) (@MagdaDavitt77) June 4, 2021

Another tweet then followed swiftly which apologised for the effect in which her retirement would have within the music business itself. Within the tweet, she apologised to booking agents, promoters and managers who may have been blind sighted by the social media activity concerning the shocking news. She also goes on to state how writing and releasing her recent memoir entitled ‘Rememberings’ made her realise that she wanted a new journey. The singer describes how she wants to gain control over her career and not rely on men professionally.

Apologies if any upset caused to booking agents or promoters or managers due to my tweeting about my retirement. I guess the book made me realise I’m my own boss. I didn’t wanna wait for permission from the men, as to when I could announce it. Also, I’d had a few whiskeys : ) — Sinead O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat) (@MagdaDavitt77) June 5, 2021

The singer’s news of her retirement has caused a lot of sadness and support from her many fans, with many of them commenting on her posts with well wishes and stories of how her music has helped them within their life. One Twitter user had commented on her initial post asking if tickets will be invalid and if her rescheduled show from 2020 will be cancelled due to the recent news shared on Twitter, the user then concluded the tweet by thanking O’Connor for her music and expresses her excitement to read the singer’s memoir. O’Connor replied to the user and well-wisher by stating that all shows will be cancelled and ended the reply by comparing her ageing to the COVID pandemic.

Yes, all shows which were originally set for 2020, rescheduled to 2021 and then to 2022 are going to be pulled. Because this soldier woman has grown old quicker than covid.

In other news, O’Connor has recently made some brutal accusations regarding musical legend Prince. She has stated that he was a devil worshipper and has written in her memoir that when she covered his song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ he had invited her to his house, during this visit she describes how she saw his eyes vanish whilst he was guarding the door to his mansion.

The singer recently gave a revealing interview to The Times in which she tells stories of the arguments in which the two had and claims that the situation became ‘Sinister’. Within the article a passage from her memoir is included which further describes the singer’s wild claims. “That is as true as God, I believe he was involved in Devil business because an old girlfriend of his told me he had the power to make shit move around the room. He got me up there to see: could this bitch be one of mine? I guess he didn’t bank on the Irish in me telling him to go f*** himself.”

Sinead O’Connor has voiced her outrage over her interview on the show ‘Woman’s Hour‘ aired on BBC Radio 4. The interview hosted by Emma Barnett was aired on 1st June 2021 and has since been labelled as “extremely offensive and even misogynistic” by the Irish singer who has also urged fans to boycott the show since the interview.

O’Connor was initially on the show to discuss her new memoir ‘Rememberings’, published on 1st June 2021, but the interview then took a turn in which angered the ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer. Within the interview, the host referenced a quote from an article within the newspaper The Telegraph. In the article music critic Neil McCormick had called the singer ‘The crazy lady in pop’s attic’.

The quote was brought up during a conversation regarding the singer’s public struggle with mental health issues, O’Connor took offensive to the discussion and appeared to deem it invasive. She also likened the comparison with the character Bertha Mason taken from the 1847 novel by Charlotte Bronte ‘Jane Eyre’. The singer responded to the quote stating “I think it’s a bit extreme to make the Jane Eyre comparison, I don’t think I’ve ever been perceived as ‘the crazy lady in pop’s attic’ as represented in Jane Eyre. It’s not like I’m trying to attack people with knives or trying to strangle people while I’m walking around in my nightdress.”

The singer then took to Twitter after the interview to voice her outrage.

Actually found the interview with @Emmabarnett extremely offensive and even misogynistic. One abusive and invalidating question or statement after another: “madwoman in the attic” At that point I should have ended it. I will absolutely never do Women’s hour again.

— Sinead O’Connor (Shuhada Sadaqat) (@MagdaDavitt77) June 1, 2021

The singer has recently changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat after converting to Islam in 2018 but has kept Sinead O’Connor has her stage name and continues to record under it. She rose to fame within the late 1980s and early 1990’s when she released her famous cover of the classic Prince song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’. The single was released on 8th January 1990 when the singer was in her early 20’s, the song debuted at number one and became hugely successful.

The 54-year-old artist then caused controversy during a performance on Saturday Night Live on 3rd October 1992. O’Connor took to the stage and performed an a cappella rendition of ‘War’ by Bob Marley, the cover was to be in protest against the alleged sexual abuse claims within the Catholic church. The singer then presented a picture of Pope John Paul ii and proceeded to tear the picture whilst singing to the camera.

The incident has remained synonymous with controversy and has followed O’Connor throughout her career and life. The singer has recently announced that she will be releasing her first album in eight years. The album entitled ‘No Veterans Die Alone‘, is set to be released in 2022.

Since the interview O’Connor also posted on Twitter to apologise for a comment she made in which she compared herself to Jamaican men. The singer had spoken about how she has four children with four different men, during this comment the singer made the comparison in question.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2 yesterday (2 June), Sinead O’Connor announced that she will release a new album in 2022. According to Carson Daly post-interview with O’Connor, it is to be called ‘No Veteran Dies Alone.’ This will be her eleventh studio album and her first album in eight years after her 2014 release ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss.’ She also previously spoke about it in an interview with The New York Times, sharing that it would be seven songs long. In this previous discussion about it, however, the project name had not yet been revealed.

The album announcement follows the release of her memoir, “Rememberings,” which tells the story of the Irish singer’s complicated life, from childhood abuse by her mother to her infamous protest on Saturday Night Live in 1992, where she ripped a picture of the pope on live TV. This would eventually lead to the boycott of her music and a shift in her career path.

Many considered the event to lead to the demise of her success as a musician, but O’Connor believes it allowed her to change her career path for the better. She explains that the real problem was misunderstanding the type of musician she was in the first place, saying, “my career was derailed by having a number one hit single that turned me into a pop star, which I wasn’t – I was a protest singer.”

Sinead O’Connor, who legally changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat after converting to Islam, has not shared many details about the upcoming album. According to Official Charts, the album will be released in 2022 (originally scheduled for late 2021). It will be produced by Belfast musician David Holmes and its cover art will be created by Donegal illustrator Jacob Stack. The 54-year-old singer shared her enthusiasm about the collaboration on Twitter but the account has since been closed. Fortunately, the artwork wasn’t revealed in that tweet so there is no sneak peek that was deleted.

Since the pandemic began, she has kept more to herself, living alone just outside of Belfast. Though she enjoys this kind of living, she will step outside of her current comfort zone to go on tour this summer in the US, Ireland and Italy. She will also have another tour in summer of 2022 after the release of her new album, making stops in the US, Ireland and the Netherlands; she’s not sure how much longer touring will be in the cards for her after this.

In her interview with Carson Daly, she shared that touring is “a young person’s game..My soul and spirit are 17, and are certain of it, but my body thinks it’s 70.” Touring may be a young person’s game, but the singer currently has sold out shows that prove that listeners everywhere still want to hear more from her, and for now, she’s giving the people what they want.

Sinead O’Connor, now known as Shuhada Sadaqat, announced on December 7th that she will be releasing her memoir Rememberings. The memoir will be available June 1st, 2021 but can currently be pre-ordered on Amazon.

The 54 year old Irish native has been working on this memoir for the past few years, stating that this is my story, as I remember it. Rememberings will be published via Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media.

Deb Brody, the vice president of the publishing company, stated that the memoir will include O’Connor’s struggles with illness and her fraught childhood. Brody continued that the book will also delve into her musical triumphs and the enduring power of song.

https://t.co/QXTyaC7i18

— Sinéad O’Connor (@SineadOConnor) December 9, 2020

Brody continued to praise the coming memoir, describing t as remarkably candid and intensely personal with the overarching theme being about the famed musician leading a life both charmed and troubled.

While nothing compares to O’Connor’s mega hit single Nothing Compares 2U, she has had many musical accomplishments throughout her career including winning a Brit Award and a Grammy. She has released 10 full-length albums, the most recent arriving in 2014 titled I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss.

She recently released the track and music video for her political version of Trouble of the World, which was made available in the fall of 2020. The vinyl version will be released December 11, 2020, six months ahead of the memoir.

As well as her many musical achievements, O’Connor has also been the subject of controversy throughout her career. The most famous example of this is when the artist shocked the world, and the SNL producers, by ripping a picture of Pope John Paul II during her performance on the show. This was the climax of her disdain for politics and religion and caused backlash throughout the world.

O’Connor changed her named in 2018 to Shuhada Sadaqat when she converted to Islam, however she continues to use her Irish name in her music and now in this upcoming memoir. After converting, she made waves when she tweeted that white people and non-muslims were disgusting and she never wanted to speak to another again; a statement for which she later apologized.

Sinead has no upcoming tour dates or performances scheduled. Rememberings is available to pre-order now and comes out on June 1st, 2021. The vinyl version of her newest track Trouble of the World will be arriving this Friday, December 11th and is available for pre-order now.

Deezer have shared InVersions, an exclusive covers album full of completely iconic hits by some of the hottest new artists in the world. In a bid to invest a little energy into the new music scene, during this difficult moment, Deezer contacted a string of exciting and diverse new artists and asked them to put their take on any classic track they fancied. Everything was recorded in isolation and the result, InVersions, dropped today (October 6), exclusive to Deezer.

Among the line-up are Fontaines D.C., with a slow, melancholic cover of The Beach Boys’ ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’. The Beach Boys sometimes have that effect where in completely the right mood they’re perfect – otherwise they’re kind of sickening. Not this cover. The last four lines, which tend to just fade into outro in the original, are haunting. You can catch a clip of it here:

This is what they had to say about it: “Covering a Beach Boys song has always been a scary thing considering the genius arrangements, their playing, their harmonies, everything about it … So ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ we saw this kind of naive perspective towards love and marriage in the lyrics, and we were quite curious to see what would happen when you contrasted that approach with a darker musical palette. So we kind of slowed down the tempo and created a draggier tune for those lyrics to sit on top of.”

A cover is an art form, there’s no doubt about that, and it’s always struck me as a great way to really get to know a band. What Fontaines D.C. say above, for example, shows just how much they understand their industry, and their craft. Perhaps Deezer picked the line-up for InVersions for exactly this reason.

InVersions also presents Arlo Parks’ first song in French: ‘Ta Reine’ by Angèle. Parks explains why this is so special: “I picked ‘Ta Reine’ by Angèle because I find her voice completely mesmerising and soft, and I feel like the topic the song discusses is very important. I’ve always wanted to sing in French since my mum is French and I’m generally just enthralled by this song and her delivery. I hope I can do it justice.”

Really there is nothing to distinguish one moment from another – all of these covers are spectacular. For me, other honourable mentions go towards Alfie Templeman’s ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’, which retains the feel of the original while simultaneously softening everything. It perfectly suits the style that Templeman is really making his own.

Likewise, Orla Gartland’s ‘Nothing Compares to You’ is ambitious – intriguingly, her powerful voice seems to be set against a Radiohead-inspired, subtly electronic take on the melody. When the music falls away for the final refrain, Gartland shows nothing but pure talent.

But, for me, Dream Wife’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ steals the show. It has all the chills of the first time you heard it. It absolutely puts a spotlight on why we all unexpectedly fell in love with Robyn in 2010. This is not because it’s a carbon copy, though; Dream Wife retain all of the best of Robyn’s original, while giving it a spin of their own. If you listen closely, you catch an endearing whisper of “in a galaxy far far far away” just before the bridge.

InVersions could not be more exciting as a music project, but it also feels like a positive force in these bleak times for the music industry. Nigel Harding, who is Deezer’s VP of Global Artist Marketing, explained the thinking behind InVersions. “We all know the music community has been hit hard by the pandemic, especially Indie artists who rely on live gigs. During this tough time, we wanted to do our part and offer support to Indie and Alternative artists with our new Inversions album … I’d love for music fans from all over the world to discover some new favourites on our InVersions album.”

You can stream it here.

Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor has today revealed plans to release a new album entitled ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss‘ on 11th August.

After recently resurfacing into public consciousness as a result of an online row with Miley Cyrus, Sinead O’Connor will return later this year with what will be her 10th studio album. Though originally thought to be entitled ‘The Vishnu Room‘, this new title suggests that O’Connor will be fighting back against her critics and attempting to show the world that she’s truly back in charge.

The album’s cover-art, also released today, sees the singer take a leaf out of Jessie J’s book with a flat fringe and an outfit comprised of leopard print and leather. O’Connor seems to have ditched her well-known bald image with this new photo though her musical approach will surely be as feisty as ever.

Fans will have to wait to hear any snippets of the album as lead single ‘Take Me To Church‘ isn’t released until the same day as the album.

‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss‘ will be released on 11th August via Nettwerk Records.
