Once again the Limerick born-born punk-poet Sinead O’Brien has made her distinctive voice heard in her latest single; “Multitudes”. The song arrives ahead of her hotly anticipated debut album titled; Time Bend And Break The Bower which will enter the zeitgeist in mid-June 2022 (more details to follow).

The song cultivates a typical voice heavy mix with a macabre blend of dramatic exchanges and jarring instrumental stabs. Full of violence and potent imagery, “Multitudes” throws you in and out of a scorching fever dream and conjures dark thoughts in those who follow O’Brien’s sickly story. Have a listen to the new track down below:

Describing the inspiration behind her latest work, O’Brien stated; “‘Multitudes’ – the word itself was the first choice. It is not neat, it describes loose ends, open ends. Working with opposing forces and contradictions. An interrogation into the obstacles which pervade our daily lives; it’s a song about desire and creativity. The album title ‘Time Bend and Break The Bower’, from this song ‘Multitudes’, came into my head and made its demands, an idea that pressed on me throughout the record. It has a very active role. The clock symbol is enlarged, it looms like a moon over my activity watching, counting me down to zero. Dripping with self sabotage and the feeling of being chased; it pulls and pushes against the verses which talk of ’Multitudes’; the things that faithfully come back – the images, the words, creativity. It is creativity itself. That’s what I’m talking about.”

Her upcoming album will be produced by the infamous Dan Carey (Wet Leg, Squid, Black Midi, Black Country, New Road etc.) of Speedy Wunderground, and will be released via Chess Club on the 10th of June 2022. You can pre-order your copy of Time Bend And Break The Bower here.

The acts cross all genres including pop, psych-rock and afro-futurism, showing the full range of British talent. Speaking about the event, James Minor, Head of Music Festival at SXSWsaid in a press release; “For 15 years, the British Music Embassy Showcase at SXSW has been where the global music industry discovers what’s next in British music.”

The British Music Embassy typically takes over a venue every year at SXSW in Austin, Texas, putting a spotlight on the best new music from around the UK. As the festival is virtual this year due to the ongoing global health crisis, the British Music Embassy has recorded live performances which can be watched on the SXSW portal. A selection of performances will also be made available after Easter for all to view on SXSW’s YouTube channel.
