Ozzy Osbourne, a titanic figure in hard rock and popular culture who died last year at the age of 76, was subject to a posthumous celebration and award on Saturday night at The BRIT Awards in Manchester. This had been announced before, but few expected the bells-and-whistles display of affection for the ex-Black Sabbath frontman.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was picked up by Osbourne’s wife and manager, Sharon and daughter Kelly after an introduction by country star Dolly Parton. This was accompanied by a four-minute rendition of ‘No More Tears’, one of many anthems penned by Ozzy in his lifetime and the title track from his 1991 comeback album which heralded his place as one of the all-time legacy giants of rock. Performing the track was ex-Take That singer Robbie Williams with Osbourne’s longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde on guitar. Also featured in the performance were Ozzy’s former bassist Rob Trujillo, now in Metallica, keyboardist Adam Wakeman, son of Ozzy’s friend Rick, and former Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent and replacement Sabbath drummer Tommy Clufetos holding the beat. The performance is reported to have been personally put together by Osbourne’s wife herself.

Sharon Osbourne, speaking from the stage, said in praise of the tributes to Ozzy that “we’re one because everyone in this place loves music, and it brings us all together. Such amazing artists tonight. I mean, everyone’s a winner, everyone.” She added “I wish he was here to accept it himself…I know that Ozzy is looking down on us all right now, and I know what he’s thinking. He hated making speeches”. These sentiments had been echoed earlier by Parton. “What an incredible life to celebrate”, she said. “Ozzy Osbourne dedicated his entire life to music, and his legacy has left a permanent imprint on the fabric of music lovers everywhere”.

Reception, as often happens where the Osbourne family is involved, has been mixed. One audience member held up a keffiyah in protest of Sharon’s support for Israel, inadvertently captured on the broadcasted footage of the manager’s speech. Others deeper in the metal community disliked the choice of singer, with one claiming that “we need a singer to do an Ozzy Osbourne tribute….let’s ignore all the proper incredible rock/metal singers and get Robbie Williams on it…. FFS!” One claimed “no disrespect to Robbie, but I wish YungBlood [sic] was doing the Ozzy tribute.” while others dismissed this too. Another claimed to want Metallica to have delivered the performance, despite the fact that the only member of the band that was present was Trujillo.

Darker speculation was aimed at Kelly Osbourne, with some comments about her weight loss prompting a response from the reality TV star. The godfather of metal’s daughter, herself married to Slipknot’s keyboardist Sid Wilson, said in a statement that “there is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something. Kicking me while I’m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most.”

Ozzy Osbourne’s long-gestating biopic has taken a major step forward, with his family confirming they have settled on what they describe as a “phenomenal” actor to play the late metal icon. The chosen performer’s identity remains a mystery, but the Osbournes say the role is now effectively cast as the film moves into its next phase of development.

The update comes from Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne, who recently discussed the project while appearing on SiriusXM with longtime family friend and musician Billy Morrison. Jack explained that, after years of development, the family and studio have agreed on their preferred choice to portray Ozzy on screen, although no official announcement has been made. He emphasised that the actor selected is, in his words, “phenomenal,” signalling strong confidence in the eventual lead performance.

The biopic is designed as a deeply personal project, developed by Osbourne Media in partnership with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment. Rather than a cradle‑to‑grave rock chronicle, the film will centre on the relationship between Ozzy and his wife and manager Sharon Osbourne, tracing their life together through some of the most turbulent and creatively explosive years of his career. Screenwriter Lee Hall, known for his work on the Elton John film Rocketman, is attached to the script.

Plans for an Ozzy biopic have been circulating for more than a decade, with the project officially announced in 2021 before entering a prolonged development period. In 2024, the Osbourne family used their revived podcast to share candid updates, joking about how long the film was taking and reflecting on what it would mean to see Ozzy’s story told on screen. Despite Ozzy’s death in 2025, the family and producers confirmed that the film would move ahead, framing it as a tribute to both his musical legacy and his partnership with Sharon.

With a “phenomenal” lead chosen and a director attached, the production is now in an intensive rewrite phase as the creative team refines the script around the casting and the emotional core of the story. Sony and its partners have indicated that securing the right filmmaker and star was essential before locking in a schedule, so this casting breakthrough marks a turning point for the long‑awaited project. For fans, the unanswered question now is not whether Ozzy’s life will hit the big screen, but which actor has been entrusted with embodying one of heavy metal’s most enduring and unpredictable figures.

Industry watchers now view the biopic as one of the most intriguing music‑film projects on the horizon, thanks to its combination of studio backing, family involvement and a still‑secret but strongly endorsed lead. Until the casting is officially unveiled, speculation around who will step into Ozzy’s boots is likely to intensify.

Ozzy Osbourne has had his fair share of ups and downs in recent months. The singer had been forced to pull out of California’s Power Trip festival due to ill health but then, the metal legend has also announced he intends to record another album and tour in 2024. Now, Osbourne’s wife Sharon has announced that she is working on a memorabilia museum to open in his native Birmingham in the near future.

Announcing the news on the family’s new Osbournes Podcast, Sharon shared that she has been actively busy trying to get her husband’s memorabilia together so that such a museum can be opened in Birmingham, although she also confirmed that Ozzy himself has no (as of yet) intentions to relocate back to the UK.

Speaking on the podcast, Sharon told daughter Kelly and Jack, “I’ve been busy trying to get together daddy’s memorabilia for the memorabilia place that we’re opening in Birmingham….he’s having all of his awards [in the museum], all his stage clothes, posters, old posters from [early incarnation of Sabbath] Earth days. I’ve got so much memorabilia. We’re gonna do it totally interactive – every video, every live show of your dad’s, everything there.”It’s more of an educational thing for musicians and artists that wanna see that you can come from nothing, and if you work hard enough this is what you can get.

Sharon further elaborated her vision for the museum, adding, “We’re going to have a café, and in there we’re going to have every instrument you can think of. Music students can come in and we’re gonna do music classes, because there’s no music at schools anymore. We’re gonna get friends, other musicians to come in.”

Birmingham, the origin city of Black Sabbath and, some would argue, the birthplace of heavy metal, has been keen to recognise Ozzy and Black Sabbath in recent months with the honour of naming the giant robotic bull from the 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games being bestowed upon the artist. Guitarist Tony Iommi also made a surprise appearance at The Hippodrome Theatre two weeks ago to inaugurate the city’s premier of Black Sabbath-The Ballet.

Black Sabbath were formed over 50 years ago in Britain’s second largest city in 1968. With their three back to back releases of Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master Of Reality in the early 70s, the band were pioneers of what would become the metal sound and scene and have cemented their place in the annals of its history with their occult imagery and grungy, doom sound.

Currently, there are no further details of an Ozzy museum, however updates are sure to follow in due course.

Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne’s family have revealed the singer is “heartbroken” that he will not be able to perform at this year’s Power Trip festival in Indio, California.

Power Trip is an upcoming heavy metal music festival set to take place on 6th-8th October. Although this is the first instance of the event, it is being described as a sequel to 2016’s Desert Trip, a 6 day festival that also took place in Indio, California. Headliners of Desert Trip included Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and The Who.

The rockstar was set to perform at Power Trip this October alongside headliners Metallica, AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses. However, in a statement released in July, Osbourne revealed that “Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed”.

As painful as this is, I’ve had to make the decision to bow out of performing on Power Trip in October.

My original plan was to return to the stage in the summer of 2024, & when the offer to do this show came in, I optimistically moved forward.

Unfortunately, my body is… pic.twitter.com/gHWEE8VuI6

It has since been revealed that Judas Priest will serve as Ozzy’s replacement at the upcoming event.

The 74-year-old acquired a neck injury after a fall in 2019 that required 2 metal plates to be inserted into his spine. The result of this caused the singer more pain, and meant he required more surgery last year, from which he is still recovering. The heavy metal legend has also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, all of which contributed to his decision to retire from touring. Osbourne made the announcement of his retirement on February 1st.

This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans… pic.twitter.com/aXGw3fjImo

Although the English rocker was optimistic about being able to return to the stage, his wife Sharon Osbourne stated in an interview with Rolling Stone that “He’s doing a lot better, but he still has a long way to go before he can perform a full concert.”

Sharon was joined by daughter Kelly Osbourne, who, when asked about her father’s decision not to perform at Power Trip, claimed that “We can’t talk about it in the house because it is just so heartbreaking to see that all he wants is just one more show”.

“He said that if he can’t give his fans what they paid to see, he won’t do it”.

Although this decision was clearly very tough to make, Ozzy Osbourne assured fans in his announcement, “I love you all and I will see you soon.”

A social media post was shared yesterday which announced the tragic passing of 72-year-old Mick Rock. The talented artist was given the title of “The Man Who Shot the 70s” and became renowned as music’s most sought after photographer. Through his celebrated images, Rock became as iconic as the musicians he photographed.

The tragic news was shared via a Twitter post on the photographers’ page. The post opened with the emotional statement, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share our beloved psychedelic renegade Mick Rock has made the Jungian journey to the other side.” The full statement can be read below and was shared alongside a photograph of Rock taken by his daughter Nathalie Rock.

Rock’s work can be seen in any music fan’s collection and many of his photos have become important artefacts of music and culture. The British born photographer is responsible for the seminal album cover for Queen’s album Queen II. The instantly recognisable black and white background with the band members in position has become one of music’s most famous album covers. Rock was also David Bowe’s official photographer and snapped some of the musician’s most iconic images. The two first connected when Bowie was on the Ziggy Stardust tour, during a gig at Birmingham Town Hall the duo met backstage.

Rock was responsible for the then-controversial image which showed Bowie simulating a sexual pose upon Mick Ronson’s guitar. Rock has stated that this was the shot that catapulted himself and Bowie into stardom. In a 2020 interview with asifmag, Rock described the historic shot. “The guitar fellatio shot with Mick Ronson was an image that really got around, especially when it got to America, And David would talk about being bisexual and would put on lipstick and drive people crazy. Mick wasn’t gay and the photo isn’t meant to suggest they had a thing, David was just trying to bite Mick’s guitar. For the first time people started to ask, ‘Who took this picture?”

Rock worked with many other artists during his long and storied career and gained a reputation for snapping photographs that truly encapsulated the era. Artists in which Rock photographed ranged within genres and spanned across many decades. Rock photographed the famed rock icons of the 1970s including T.Rex, Lou Reed, Blondie, Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop. He also snapped some of Punk’s most popular groups such as The Sex Pistols and The Ramones. Later on, in his career Rock worked with some of modern music’s most influential artists including Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg and Lady Gaga.

Tributes have been pouring in for Rock since the news had been shared. Included within the tributes was Sharon Osbourne who shared an emotive statement. “We lost a legend, a true artist @therealmickrock His work will live on forever. There are too many epic photos to choose from, but I urge you to scroll through just a few of his greatest hits. All our love and respect to his family.” Tim Burgess, the Charlatans singer, also posted a tribute stating Rock “ “made music look so exciting“.
