Singer Lewis Capaldi’s great friend and fellow artist Yungblud has spilled the tea about the Scottish artist’s new music, saying the music is “sounding great”.

The ‘Before You Go’ singer has been on a break from the industry since June 2023, after vocal tics plagued his singing, a symptom of Tourette’s syndrome, which led the singer to break down during his performance on the Glastonbury stage. Lewis has been off social media and such ever since, taking a much deserved break to help himself feel better.

Doncaster Pop-Punk singer, Yungblud, who recently returned with his new single ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’ and who has also been known to be a very close friend of Capaldi’s, has revealed his friend has been focusing on getting his mental health back on track but has some really great new material in the bag waiting for future releases.

The rock singer shared with The Sun about their friendship: “We’ve always been the same. We knew each other before any success. It’s important to find friends who know you before anything and I think we’ll always be behind the bar in some pub until we’re 70. I have heard his new music, and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right. I love him, as me and him have been on this ride together. We experienced it at the same time, and he is perhaps the only friend who knows what I am going through, in the same way I know what he’s going through.”

Lewis Capaldi, shared a statement on Instagram after his Glastonbury set which read: “First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world. The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future. I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it become obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

The Scottish singer’s second album ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’ raced to number 1 in the UK charts in 2023 was the latest release from the artist. He has then shared a few snippets of music on Instagram but hasn’t been active since the beginning of the year 2024.

A self-titled posthumous album from SOPHIE is set to be released later this year and it will be the final project we hear from SOPHIE. The record is set to be released on the 27th of September via Future Classic and Transgressive records. The album marks the second full-length LP from the beloved Scottish producer, and the first and only release since her tragic death in 2021.

This will be the follow up to her acclaimed debut in 2018, ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ and according to her family was close to completion when SOPHIE passed away in 2021 and has been completed by the Scottish artist’s family and close friends and close collaborators such as her studio manager and co-producer Benny Long. The first preview of the project was released on the 24th of June and is titled ‘Reason Why’, and it features Kim Petras and BC Kingdom and was produced by Benny Long.

In a statement SOPHIE’s family has said that “When we, Sophie’s family, took our first steps towards bringing this project to fruition we contacted the dear friends with whom she envisioned the album. We wrote, “We have been finding comfort in the music Sophie left us, it is a gift that we truly cherish as we try to find a way forward, with Sophie forever at the centre of our worlds.”

They continued telling us that “Sophie didn’t often speak publicly of her private life, preferring to put everything she wanted to articulate in her music. It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved most.”

They also said that “This album has always told the story of Sophie’s musical journey, a cacophony of skill and creative vision eclipsing time and genre.” and that this work emphasises “contradictions of sound and material, Sophie’s work supersedes the pure aural to create the dimension she dreamed of.”

They concluded that “Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”

SOPHIE was 34 when she died in a tragic accident when she fell from a hotel rooftop in Athens, Greece in January 2021.

Born in Glasgow, SOPHIE initially rose to prominence as a producer as part of the pop production team PC Music. She worked with superstars including Madonna, Diplo, Petras and Charli XCX. She found her own audience with her debut single ‘Nothing More to Say’, which she released in 2013 and followed up with ‘Bipp’ and ‘Lemonade’. She released her debut album, ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-insides’ to critical acclaim in 2018 and this saw her nominated for the Grammy for best dance/electronic album. As well as this she has credits as a writer and producer in various hits, including Madonna’s ‘Bitch’ and Charli XCX’s ‘Vroom Vroom’. ‘So I’ from Charli XCX’s latest album ‘Brat’ was dedicated to the Scottish producer and how XCX saw SOPHIE as a guiding light

Travis Frontman, Fran Healey, said about the idea behind the song “I was on holiday, staring out the window, watching all the boats bobbing on the sea. I was trying to write a song and nothing was coming. It reminded me of all the years I spent waiting on buses. You never think it’s going to come, but if you wait long enough it usually turns up.”

He added “In the middle of all these thoughts came a cool little melody and the song was written a few minutes later.”

The song was accompanied by a new music video which was filmed in Scotland, and directed by Healey himself and it features the band waiting for a bus in the Scottish Highlands for what seems to be a long time as well as the group performing the song by the road. It also has a short guest appearance from comedian and actor Adam Buxton. Check it out below.

Following much deliberation, organisers have announced that the popular Scottish music festival Doonhame in Dumfries is cancelled this year as a result of ‘escalating’ costs and ‘personal commitments’. The festival is said to be ‘unsustainable’, with organisers stating they have made the ‘difficult decision’ to not hold the event this summer. Hosted at the town’s Chricton Estate, the two-day festival brings thousands of music enthusiasts to Southwest Scotland each year, showcasing an array of local talent and renowned acts like The Feeling, The Waterboys, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Bay City Rollers, Gun and The View’s Kyle Falconer performing in previous years.

Established in 2019, Doonhame is still in its infancy after being put on hold for two years due to the COVID:19 pandemic. Rain did not appear to stop the festival-goers last July as they reveled in all that the four stages, the main arena and the beautiful grounds of the estate had to offer. The weekend was complete with a more relaxed, family-orientated Sunday, with youngsters enjoying activities, music and live performances from Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande tribute acts.

Despite having a successful run in 2022 and 2023, like many grassroot venues, festivals and events in the music industry, it too has fallen victim to spiralling costs. Co-director Sandy Sweetman said that although the previous years were a triumph, it had sadly become too much of a strain to balance ticket prices with the financial upkeep of hosting the festival. Mr. Sweetman said in a statement: “2023 was a hugely positive experience for us with the festival taking shape and finding its format, however balancing ticket price with the rising costs of putting a festival together and looking at our own limited availability to dedicate the necessary time to the project sadly makes it unsustainable.

“Mark and myself cannot be more grateful to all the people who supported us throughout this journey, from the dedicated team who put so much time and energy into helping us throughout the last five years, the Crichton for accommodating us, sponsors and everyone who committed by buying tickets.”

Fans of the festival have expressed their disappointment on social media but hope to see Doonhame up and running again in the near future, with one user commenting: “Sorry to hear this news, a sad loss for the region. It’s a huge task and financial commitment to organise a music festival. Sandy & Co can hold their heads high for all their efforts.”

Another user added: “So sad to hear this news but totally understand your reasons. Thanks for the great memories…I had an absolute blast at every Doonhame Festival I attended. All the best to everyone in the team.”

Scottish psychedelic rock band The Kundalini Genie have announced their sixth studio album, False Highs, True Lows. The LP will be released via the Scottish independent record label Last Night From Glasgow this coming November, with an exact date to be announced soon.

The latest release from the group that is keeping British psychedelic rock alive and well marks another chapter in The Kundalini Genie’s ascent into British psychedelic folklore, with the band claiming on the post that announced the album that the LP is “hands down the absolute best record we’ve ever made“. Exciting stuff, truly, for any fan that has witnessed the group’s stunning progression via their previous releases.

The Glasgow based experimental/psychedelic rock outfit released their debut album, Reverberation, in 2017, and have since released an impressively prolific total of five albums in the past seven years, with their latest making it six in seven.

Listen to “The Soul That Makes Me Yours“, the opening track of The Kundalini Genie’s debut album, below:

The band have been continually supported by a devout cult following and have been likened by fans and critics alike to fellow psychedelic rock group The Brian Jonestown Massacre, with both bands mixing reverb heavy drone-pysch numbers with more upbeat, 60’s psychedelia inspired, Rolling Stones-esque experimental wanderings. Another 60’s band the group has been compared to is the Velvet Underground, helped undoubtedly by the fact that the Kundalini Genie covered the Velvets’ track “Oh Sweet Nothin’” on Austrian record label Schore’s ‘the HillTone Sessions’ back in 2020.

You Are The Resurrection, the band’s second album, was released in 2018 and, like the first, was not attached to a label. The third, It’s All In Your Head (2019), was released by both Captain Beefart Records, which is also a Youtube channel that has continually supported the band by way of Youtube uploads, and Little Cloud Records, the latter also releasing their next two records, 1111 (2020), and Half In, Half Out (2021).

Watch the music video for “Half In, Half Out”, the title track from The Kundalini Genie’s fifth album, below:

You can pre-order False Highs, True Lows here.

Edinburgh based electronic music extraordinaire Eyes of Others has put out a new single today, “Once, Twice, Thrice“, as part of a series of releases in anticipation of the release of his debut self-titled album next month.

The track is the third part of a trilogy of songs and music videos that will be found on Eyes of Others, with the debut album scheduled to be released on May 19th. The first song and music video, “New Hair New Me“, was released on February 28th, while the second, “Big Companies Large Tentacles”, came out on March 27th.

Watch the music video for “Once, Twice, Thrice” below:

This will be the first chance Eyes of Others will have to showcase his astonishing talent and love of different music genres. These three teaser tracks alone incorporate a hugely diverse set of sounds that will undoubtedly leave his listeners mesmerised and blissfully dizzied. “New Hair New Me” brings with it elements of indie, psychedelic and folk rock, combining joyful and hopeful lyrics with an uplifting energy.

“Big Companies Large Tentacles“, conversely, contains a different kind of energy with its abstract lyrics accompanied by a gritty, darker, Suicide-esque dub/techno sound. The track suddenly transforms with vibrant electricity towards the end with a spray of energetic acid techno, before returning once more to base.

“Once, Twice, Thrice“, the album opener, returns to positivity with its upbeat loops, dreamy vocals, and sounds of a psychedelic nature lurking in the background.

The artist behind Eyes of Others is John Bryden, who has been using the moniker since 2017 and the release of his first track “I See You in the Shrubs“. Prior to this, he had been in various bands, toiling away without much success. He thus decided to pursue a solo career, seeing music, as stated by his bandcamp biography, as a vehicle of freedom and a “space for expressing yourself”, and the extent of this new-found musical freedom is extravagantly illustrated within his genre-breaking debut LP. He describes his music as “post-pub couldn’t get in the club music”, thereby effectively confirming his contentment with his place in the music world and the freedom said place allows him to enjoy.

Listen to “I See You in the Shrubs” below:

Pre-order Eyes of Others now here.

You can also catch Eyes of Others live, listed below are his tour dates:

On October 6th, the SAY Award shortlist will be revealed. The Modern Scottish Classic Award winner, a Scottish record of enduring impact selected by the longlisted artists, will also be announced, along with the five Sound of Young Scotland Award nominees. In order to reduce barriers to entry, the SAY Award does not ask artists to pay participation fees and accepts albums that have at least 6 tracks and/or 30 minutes in length as qualifying albums. The SAY Award winner will earn one of the most generous prize amounts in the UK: £20,000. The nine runners-up will also get customised art prizes made through The SAY Design Commission. The winner will be revealed during the final event on Thursday, October 20th, at The Albert Halls in Stirling.

The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) created and organised the SAY Award, placing accessibility, inclusion, and diversity at the centre of their flagship initiative. Creative Scotland, Stirling Council, Stirling Alive With Scotland, YouTube Music, Go Forth, Ticketmaster, Spotify, PPL, Youth Music Initiative, Youth Music, Brewgooder, Stirling Distillery, and Music Declares Emergency are some of the additional partners for 2022.

From the 20 outstanding Scottish albums that made up this year’s Longlist, the public’s choice will automatically be guaranteed a place in the 10-strong Shortlist along with a minimum prize of £1,000.”

He continued,“In any year prize money is significant for artists, but in the face of the current financial crisis, this support will make an instrumental difference. Now’s the time to get behind your favourite record, and we look forward to revealing and then championing 10 of the best Scottish albums of the last year in the lead up to 2022’s SAY Award Ceremony on Thursday, 20 October.”

Having dropped jaws globally with their last album Cocoa Sugar, Young Fathers have stepped out into the light after 4 years with their latest single titled; “Geronimo”.

The Edinburgh native- Mercury Prize holders love to cut songs that cut listeners. Dealing in highly evocative textures and imagery that seems viscerally present to some distant lobe in the back of your brain. Here we see Young Fathers jump back into this head-on, with a sensory overload of timbral inflections that seems both haphazardly disjointed and yet flows majestically from each section to the next. Primal vocal chants and screams lead the song into a celestial territory of raw, unbridled emotion. Check out the song in the video below:

The band said of their latest work; “A good time trying. That’s what Ma said, she was smiling, but it was meant as a warning, it’s a track about contrast, because life is contrast – pushing through, giving up, all at the same time. Wanting everything and then wanting nothing, then wanting everything again. It’s kind of reflective of where we are at the moment, trying to remember how to do this again.

“Trying to make music and all of the other stuff that comes along with it. Trying to forget all the bad bits, just trying to get somewhere. And that’s where we are right now, trying to get somewhere.

“It’s the tenderness in toil, we had expelled a bunch of stuff with a lot of drive and wilder energy beforehand but this one had focus. It widened the scope again for us personally, that’s where the real high comes from. We grew another arm. We surprised ourselves.

“So coming back with a track called ‘Geronimo’ feels quite fitting. Just the 3 of us again, but still in a fucking basement.”

Looking back at 2018s Cocoa Sugar, one review broke down the seminal album, saying; “Young Fathers shouldn’t need to simmer down or spoon-feed what they do to gain popularity or make a better living. They’ve made it this far by being unlike any other band in the country, equally motivated by writing great pop songs and sounding completely alien.”

To which the band’s own Alloysious Massaquoi later mused: “We don’t know if it has connected, but we know that it’s a great album. Every time we go into the studio we do something better than what we’ve done before.”

The tour begins at the Leeds Festival on the 27th of August 2021 and ends in Glasgow’s Hampden Park on Saturday the 16th of July 2022. Most of the venues on Cinnamon’s tour schedule are sold out, but there are still tickets available at some venues on the list.

All existing tickets will remain valid for those who booked before the tour cancellation due to Covid-19. Worldwide government guidelines in 2020 stated that no concerts could effectively take place to minimize the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus, meaning that all music fans who had bought tickets before the pandemic had no choice but to wait until further notice. Cinnamon expressed gratitude to his fans on Instagram for their collective understanding.

Scottish singer and songwriter Gerry Cinnamon is releasing a new ‘definitive’ version of his second studio album The Bonny at midnight tonight in the UK. The original album was released back in April and does not include the new track Ghost that will feature on the re-release.

New versions of the singles Kampfire Vampire and Fickle McSelfish will also be included in the re-release. Cinnamon noted on social-media that Ghost was written around the same time as the two previously released singles, in addition to the track Roll the Credits, and he is pleased they can all be together in this new version of the record.

The Glasgow artist began his cult-following in 2014 when he released his first debut single Hope Over Fear and performed it at a festival supporting the Referendum of Scottish Independence, inadvertently making him widely popular through the Yes campaign. After a string of successful festival gigs at T in the Park, he was awarded Best Live Act at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in 2016.

Cinnamon remained unsigned throughout his career and still managed to headline a sold-out show at the O2 ABC venue in Glasgow. Shortly after he released his first full-length album in 2017 called Erratic Cinematic and produced by Chris Marshall.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts for singer-songwriters and briefly outsold Ed Sheeran before landing the #6 overall slot. In promotion for the album, 2 Barrowland Ballroom concerts were announced on the back on the Erratic Cinematic CD and sold-out immediately. This accomplishment had never been done by an unsigned artist and landed Cinnamon a spot in the Barrowland Ballroom Hall of Fame along with massive icons including David Bowie.

Among other accomplishments that the Scottish born artist has achieved, he has won The Great Scot Award for entertainment and broken the record for the most ever indoor attendance at a Scottish venue, with 15,000 audience members at the P&J Live Show in Aberdeen. He the went on to open for Liam Gallagher during his Australian national tour.

Cinnamon held a Scottish, English and Irish tour in 2018 which sold-out and continued onto many headlining shows, including Glastonbury, throughout 2019. This year the artist then released his second full-length album, The Bonny, which was met with tremendous critical praise.

The original release of The Bonny went # 1 on the UK and Irish album charts and was the fastest selling vinyl record of 2020. The album was released under Cinnamon’s self-created label Little Runway.

Cinnamon had to reschedule all of his concerts, including opening for DropKick Murphy’s American tour, as well as all of his 2020 show dates. He has rescheduled these dates for 2021 due to safety concerns surrounding the global Covid-19 health crisis and will appear in multiple festivals in the coming year.

The re-release of Cinnamon’s second full-length album The Bonny will drop at midnight and will be available for download and on all streaming platforms. Tickets for Cinnamon’s upcoming concerts are available here.
