The 11-track record sees frontman Bobby Gillespe give us some of his most personal song writing of the band’s career. According to the band the song writing process for ‘Come Ahead’ began back in 2019. At this time Bobby Gillespe wasn’t sure he would ever make another Primal Scream album. For this record Gillespe wrote the lyrics before the music was written for the first time in Primal Scream’s career. He wrote the music alone with just an acoustic guitar. Working with Producer David Holmes for this album, the recording sessions were completed between Belfast, London and Los Angeles.

Speaking about ‘Come Ahead’ Singer, Bobby Gillespe said: “I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record. If there was an overall theme to Come Ahead it might be one of conflict, whether inner or outer.”

He continued saying that the title of the album has roots in his hometown of Glasgow: “The title is a Glaswegian term. If someone threatens to fight you, you say, ‘come ahead!’ It’s redolent of the indomitable spirit of the Glaswegian, and the album itself shares that aggressive attitude and confidence.”

To go along with the announcement of the new album, the group have shared the lead single ‘Love Insurrection’ to give us a preview of ‘Come Ahead’. The single is a funky one with groovy basslines with lyrics about how to remain positive and hopeful in uncertain times. Listen Below.

Scottish alt-rockers Teenage Fanclub have released a new single titled “I Left a Light On“. The band (which consists of founders Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley on vocals/guitar, Francis MacDonald on drums, Dave McGowan on bass and Euros Childs on keyboards) are apparently readying for their next studio album, with this song being a taster of what’s to come. You can listen to it below.

Being written by Blake, NME describes it as “a slow-burning, piano-led ballad with soaring strings“. It was written while their last album, 2021’s Endless Arcade, was still in the works. The latter album is now reaching its first-year anniversary, coming out in April last year. Being positively received, it sported the singles “Home“, “I’m More Inclined“ and “The Sun Won’t Shine on Me“, reaching number 11 on the UK Albums Chart.

Endless Arcade was arguably a pivotal moment in the band’s career, being their first LP without co-founding member Gerard Love, who left them in 2018 after their 2016 album Here. Having been bolstered by the addition of Euros Childs (of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci fame), the band seem to be making do without him, but this next album should hopefully ensure their staying power without their teammate of almost thirty years.

“I Left a Light On” and its music video was recorded in Wales’ Rockfield Studios, with Ryan Eddleston helping out with the filming, showing the band performing the track in the studio. Blake said that “I wrote this song on the piano at Rockfield Studios while we were mixing Endless Arcade. We went back there recently to record it. As a band we’ve already started thinking about another new album, this song is the first signpost towards that“.

And it’s not the only good news for the band’s fans. They’re scheduled for a new tour starting tomorrow, taking them all around the UK, Europe and parts of Ireland. Of course, they have to start off near their roots, with a concert at the SWG3 in Glasgow. Tickets can be purchased here and the UK and Ireland tour dates can be seen below.
