BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills has been dismissed from his role at the broadcaster, with the BBC confirming the decision was related to “personal conduct”.

In an official announcement released this week, the BBC confirmed that Mills is no longer part of its Radio 2 presenting team. The corporation did not provide further details, stating only that the matter concerned “personal conduct”. No public statement has been issued by Mills himself or his representatives.

After taking over his BBC Radio 2 show from Zoe Ball back in January 2025, on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, Mills ended the programme at 9:30 am, originally stating he’d return the following day. The following morning, however, DJ Gary Davies hosted Mills’ usual show, stating that he was “in for Scott Mills“.

This news was first reported by The Mirror, which stated the belief it was to do with “a historic relationship“.

Mills joined BBC Radio 2 in 2022, taking over the weekday afternoon show previously hosted by Steve Wright. His move followed more than two decades with BBC Radio 1, where he became one of the station’s most recognisable presenters. Known for his upbeat delivery and long-standing collaboration with producer and co-host Chris Stark, Mills played a central role in shaping the tone of mainstream BBC radio entertainment throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

Before joining the BBC, Mills began his career in local radio and quickly built a national profile. Over the years, he also appeared on television projects linked to BBC radio, including coverage of live music events and charity broadcasts.

Radio industry observers have described Mills’ departure as one of the most significant changes to Radio 2’s schedule in recent years. The station is expected to fill the weekday afternoon slot with temporary cover until a permanent replacement is confirmed.

No internal details have been made public regarding the review or timeline of events leading up to the dismissal. The BBC has not elaborated on the nature or specifics of the conduct involved, stating that it does not comment on individual staffing matters.

Listeners have widely discussed the announcement on social media, reflecting on Mills’ contribution to BBC radio and his role in defining daytime programming over the past two decades. Many noted his distinctive broadcasting style and the long-running rapport he built with audiences during his time at both Radio 1 and Radio 2.

Mills’ departure brings an end to a 25-year career within the BBC, marking a major shift for the Radio 2 schedule.

Further updates on programming and scheduling decisions are expected to follow from the broadcaster in the coming days.

For the first time in this century, the United Kingdom has been given the responsibility to host the annual music event we all know as the infamous Eurovision Song Contest. This has come around after last years winners, Ukraine, being unable to host this years event due to the war. So the UK has willingly stepped in to host the 67th edition in their name.

Broadcasted across the BBC, the show is set to be like no other this year. Expect to have a whole series of different shows and programmed content for the audience to indulge in as a build up between broadcasts. For the first time ever the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final will be aired live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. During which they will provide wall to wall entertainment to the shows fans across TV, BBC iPlayer, the radio, BBC Sounds and online.

This distinguished event hosts the participation of 37 countries and the winning of a life changing trophy. Last year the Ukrainian rap group Kalush, who formed in 2019, took their humble victories home with a whopping 631 points. A third victory for the countries Eurovision history.

During the whole week there will be highlights from The One Show and BBC Breakfast live from Liverpool. Whilst BBC Radio and BBC Sounds deliver entertainment in the meantime, BBC 2 will be the main lodging for the actual broadcasting of the show.

The vast selection of entertainment will be carried out by our country’s leading and quick witted hosts to ensure a good running throughout the Eurovision display. For our Grand Final commentary we will be guided through by the English radio DJ and presenter Scott Mills and the renowned broadcaster Rylan. The Semi-Finals will be presented by the BBC presenter Paddy O’Connell. Whilst both Semi-Finals broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer will be presented by Alesha Dixon, Julia Sanina and Hannah Waddingham as well as the appearance Graham Norton joining the musical trio for the Grand Final.

“We couldn’t be more proud and excited to give our audiences such a huge array of world class Eurovision content. It’s an honour for the BBC to host the show on behalf of Ukraine, and we’re committed to do them proud. The level of collaboration and coordination across so much of the output is truly amazing. Let the Eurovision Song Contest begin!” Expressed Kate Phillips, BBC Director.

Not only will the contestants be taking to the stage but special visitors from around the world also. Artists such as Rita Ora, last years winners Kalush, UK star Sam Ryder, Rebecca Ferguson, Alyosha and more to be announced.

This years Eurovision Song Contest will be running from the 9th May to the 13th.

Ryder first gained traction within the social media platform TikTok during the 2020 lockdown, where the promising singer began to upload covers of popular songs onto the app. The singer’s page soon gained attention from famous artists who even posted reaction videos to his performances, Ryder now has over twelve million followers and is one of the most followed UK artists within the platform. The artist’s success within the app soon caught the attention of the industry and he was quickly signed to a major record label, in 2021 Ryder was added to Parlophone’s roster.

The Essex born artist hopes to score high with his track “Space Man”, co-written by Grammy-winning artist and songwriter Amy Wadge and Max Wolfgang. The track is a previous winner of Tune of the Week on the Scott Mills’ show, broadcasted via BBC Radio 1. Mills was also responsible for the announcement itself, the news of Ryder’s entry was revealed by the DJ on the Radio 1 Breakfast show with Greg James. On the show, Ryder stated, “I love Eurovision. I think it’s such a privilege to be able to do it… I don’t want to let the stigma or fear of coming at a certain place in a table stop me from doing something and being a part of something that I enjoy so much. As long as I can go to Eurovision and know in my heart of hearts I’m going to do the best job I can then everything else is out of my control.”

The singer also expressed his excitement within a statement given to Eurovision.tv, “Having been a fan of Eurovision since I was a kid l I am so honoured to have been presented with the opportunity to sing at an event alongside some of Europe’s most talented creatives, performers and songwriters. I hope to sing my head off in a way the United Kingdom can be proud of, and to showcase a song I wrote with my friends last summer makes the whole experience even more special. See you in Turin legends!”

This year marks the 66th Eurovision Song Contest and is set to be held on 14th May 2022 in Turin, Italy. In February, it was announced that fellow British artist Mika would co-host the semi-finals and Grand Final. The “Grace Kelly” singer will share the hosting responsibilities with Laura Pausini and Alessandro Catelan.

The event has a long history of successes and losses, last year the UK received zero points with “Embers” by entrant James Newman and in 2019 the country’s entry “Bigger Than Us” by representative Michael Rice also finished last. Despite the UK’s recent bad luck, UK music fans remain hopeful that Ryder will break the streak and bring home a win.

Indie singer-songwriter Sam Fender has shared a heartwarming letter giving advice to his younger self. The artist shared the letter while appearing on Scott Mill’s show on BBC Radio 1.

“Don’t feel ashamed for being sensitive and empathetic.
— BBC Radio 1 (@BBCR1) December 22, 2020

Impactful and emotional, in the letter the artist told his younger self to not be ashamed for being sensitive, and take pride in his emotions despite being bullied. “Don’t pay attention to any of the kids that give you grief for your hair or your weight,” he said. You’re gonna lose all of that in three years anyway, it’s just puppy fat,” Fender wrote. “The bullies who catch you on the stairs are gonna want your autograph 10 years later. Don’t give it to them. Don’t feel ashamed for being sensitive and empathetic – that trait is going to be the foundation of your future career. You’re not ugly, you’re not stupid, so stop telling yourself that.”

The artist also encouraged his younger self to pick up and practice his guitar, and look after the loved ones around him, before signing off with “…stop worrying kid – you’ve got this.” The letter evoked an emotional response from Mills and fans alike, with many praising Fender for his honesty on social media.

However, this isn’t the first time the artist has touched on the topic on metal health. In November, he launched a campaign to drop phone charges for helplines for the most vulnerable members of society, after learning that there is a 40p charge for the service. “We’ve all been on helplines before, you can be stuck on these things for God knows how long. Half an hour will equate to 12 quid and if you’re skint and you’re homeless, or on the brink of being homeless 12 quid is a lot of money,” he tweeted. “To me this makes absolutely no sense, it’s completely scandalous. We shouldn’t be charging people 40 pence per minute.” The campaign has gathered a lot of traction, and has been covered in media publications nationwide.

We’re calling for every local council to provide free helplines for the homeless and vulnerable. Sign our petition‼️‼️ ➡️➡️➡️ https://t.co/RZhCd11flB pic.twitter.com/H8RQ16I82m
