Legendary English synthpop band Depeche Mode has unveiled the acts that will be supporting them on their upcoming European tour. On the 12th April, the band took to Instagram to share the five acts that will join them on their Memento Mori tour.

Californian dark wave artist Cold Cave will start as the support act for the duo followed by the Scottish avant-pop band Young Fathers who will be supporting them for their London show. French singer Jehnny Beth (formally of the British punk band Savages) will support the band in late June and early July. Berlin-based band Hope and British trip-hop band HÆLOS will also be supporting.

Prior to the announcement, Martin Gore praised Young Fathers to NME: “I’ve been having to listen to a lot of stuff for remixes and support artists lately. A band I thought were very unique were Young Fathers. I’ve been listening to their albums and watching live performances, and they’re just so different to everything else”.

Depeche Mode has already commenced their Memento Mori world tour, their first tour in five years, which started in Sacramento on the 23rd March. Playing a mix of their classics and new songs around the globe until mid-December, the band is set to play more than 80 dates with shows in total across North America and Europe.

The European leg will be comprised of 34 dates and will kick off in the Netherlands next month. The band will be performing in London on the 17th June at Twickenham Stadium. They are also playing Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona and Madrid this Summer. For tickets see here.

Depeche Mode released their fifteenth studio album Memento Mori on the 24th March through Columbia and Mut. The brooding electro-industrial album is the band’s first record since the passing of keyboard player and founding member Andy “Fletch” Fletcher.

The fate of the iconic group from Basildon was uncertain following Fletcher’s passing in May last year. The remaining members Martin Gore and Dave Gahan were unsure whether they could continue. Gahan told the NME that he was sure “Fletch was going to outlive all of us” and his death “still doesn’t feel real”. The band decided to continue despite their apprehensions as Gore told Live Nation Entertainment, “We’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning”.

Jehnny Beth, frontwoman of London rockers, Savages has announced she will be going it alone, at least for a one-time gig, as well as a collaboration with Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, according to NME.

The band announced last year that they would be taking a break to pursue new ventures, and Jehnny Beth offered a tease about today’s announcement following the wrapping of their Tour to support their acclaimed sophomore album, ‘Adore Life.’ Beth revealed at the time, ‘I have collaboration I have lined up, really cool stuff, which I can’t talk about now but some are going to be revealed in January,” she said. “So I think it’s going to be for me, collaborating with new people. I’ve kept writing a lot so I’ve got a lot of songs right now that I don’t know what I’m going to do with yet. They’re for something else, not Savages. Pursuing the collaborations where people have reached out and want to work with me, that’s what’s going to happen. I’m very excited.’

Well, now photos posted on the Instagram accounts of Beth, and Johnny Hostile, her partner and other half of duo lo-fi indie rockers, ‘John and Jehn’, confirm that the collaboration will be with Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream. The photos include the Jehn and Bobby together, with the caption, ‘2 singers hard at work in the studio’, as well as a photo of a reclining Beth, along with a tribute to ‘The lady who never stops writing. Inspirational woman. Lucky me #jehnnybeth.’

Beth took to Instagram to announce she will be performing a one night solo piano show, writing, ‘Dear people of the Netherlands, I am playing the GRAUZONE festival in the city of the North Sea coast of the western Netherlands, The Hague – the 11th Feb 2017. Grab your tickets to see an intimate piano solo performance of exclusively new songs.’

However, Beth isn’t the only one exploring pastures new, with Savages bassist Ayse Hassan’s new side project KiteBase releasing their new album, ‘Latent Whispers’, today. The band will soon be packing their bags to head out on a European Tour, including one show at London’s Kamio; the full schedule is shown below:

15/2 – Festival Hors Pistes @ Le Brise Glace – Annecy
16/2 – Art Gallery Perrin (Generiq Festival) – Montbeliard
23/2 – Prinzenbar – Hamburg

In an interview with Loud & Quiet, Savages frontwoman Jehnny Beth has today confirmed that the band plan to take a break. Beth confirmed that both she and her bandmates had endured a hectic schedule between their two successful albums, and addressed this when saying “We’re going to take a break from Savages because we haven’t taken a break between the two records at all – we took a month, I remember.” Earlier this year, released their second album Adore Life, to much acclaim.

Beth also alluded to both her and her bandmates having musical intentions outside of Savages, but teased fans about her future projects, stating “I have a collaboration I have lined up, really cool stuff, which I can’t talk about now but some are going to be revealed in January […] I think it’s going to be for me, collaborating with new people. I’ve kept writing a lot so I’ve got a lot of songs right now that I don’t know what I’m going to do with yet.”

Beth had alerted fans to a potential hiatus for the band as recently as the end of last month, when she addressed a sold out Brixton Academy, to tell them that they were witnessing “The last Savages show for a while.” The gig at Brixton itself was seen as something of a landmark for the band, as they also emotionally paid tribute to Leonard Cohen and Marianne Faithfull.
