Royal Blood have teased a possible celebration tour to mark the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. The Brighton based duo are fresh off the release of their newest, acclaimed album Back To The Water Below.

We’re both very proud to say our fourth album ‘Back To The Water Below’ is now all yours.

We never imagined we’d make it this far! We’d like to make a point of saying thank you to all our wonderful fans, You’re the fuel to this rocket of ours, thank you for keeping us in orbit. pic.twitter.com/s2zmBg39oi

— Royal Blood (@royalblooduk) September 1, 2023

The release of Royal Blood back in 2014, announced the guitar and drumming pair of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher onto the garage rock scene and kick started their journey to super- stardom and sold out arena shows. The album, debuting at number one on the UK album charts, went on to chart within the top ten of multiple countries around the world and also grab a Mercury Prize nomination. To give the album its deserved due and celebrate the momentous achievement, Royal Blood are now mulling over the idea of touring the album next year, in time for its 10 year anniversary.

The band have acknowledged there are a few proposals up in the air to mark the milestone, including a complete live album play-through and/or a revisit of the original tour. They’ve even, most assuredly tongue in cheek, suggested a firework display complete with drones and a musical score. The pair have also hinted at a possible stop along the way at 2024’s edition of the Reading and Leeds festival. It is fairly certain that, whatever the band do decide to do, fans will be poised and ready to join the band on what is sure to be an exciting honouring of such a huge landmark for the group.

The duo released their fourth studio effort, Back To The Water Below on the 1st of September, and are once again on course for another number one record in the UK. Speaking about the new album, guitarist Kerr said the intention behind the experimentation with new sounds was to be sure to not over think the process.

We can’t wait to play these songs live for you and hope to see you out there very soon.

Until then, turn it up

Nothing but love

Kerr said, “when we play together, that’s all that’s required for it to be Royal Blood. If we want to go somewhere new, we just go for it. We were basically always in agreement. We very rarely have disagreements about the songs and if we do, it means it’s wrong and we move on to something else. The chemistry is all you have. That’s the thing you have to cherish and if you push that to one side, it defeats the point of doing this.”

Royal Blood found themselves the unlikely centre of controversy earlier this summer, when their performance at BBC 1’s Big Weekend went viral for the band accusing the crowd of not being into the music and then flipping the finger as they walked off stage at the end of the set. The duo, perhaps understandably, continue to field questions over the matter but the band are happy that their music is once again taking the spotlight- for all the right reasons.

Royal Blood will be heading out on a tour of the UK and Ireland this autumn. Tickets can be purchased here.

Rock duo Royal Blood have announced Hot Wax and Bad Nerves as the special guests supporting their North American tour which takes place later this year. The tour, which begins in September, spans 26 dates starting from the Fillmore in Detroit and ending at The Sound in San Diego, California.

Hot Wax, who are playing on the Western leg of the tour, announced the news on Instagram. They said, as shown below, “This is insane! we are headed to America for the first time in november supporting Royal Blood on the west coast leg of their tour. hope you like rock music”

Hot Wax have generated a lot of buzz this year, especially after performing a lengthy string of great shows around the United Kingdom. Their sound is a blend of grunge, heavy guitar, and impressive lyrics which are often sung by all three band members; a mix which makes them a key feature in the current rock scene that prevails in the South East. NME.com even wrote an article about them, saying they could be “Britain’s next great guitar band“.

The band, featuring three 18-year-olds from Hastings, released their debut EP A Thousand Times on May 19th with Marathon Artists. It garnered great reviews across the internet and social media. The lead single “Rip It Out” was premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Future Alternative segment on May 22nd.

The official video for the song can be viewed below:

Supporting Royal Blood will be the first time the band have toured outside of the UK.

On the other end, Bad Nerves, a five-piece punk band from London, are the support for the Eastern leg of the tour. They announced the news on twitter, as shown below:

NORTH AMERICA HERE WE COME @royalblooduk pic.twitter.com/EADMN08F61

The band self-describe themselves to “play ferociously fast distorted pop songs, with melodies that hook so deep, even the most skilled lobotomist would struggle to scrape them out.” Their debut, self-titled, and only album came out in 2020, and the band have an impressive 420,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Adding fuel to the metaphorical fire, the band released a live album this year, aptly titled Alive In London.

The band supported Royal Blood already at a massive show at Nottingham Rock City on the 26th of May, and are set to support them again at a sold out show in Newcastle on the 21st of June. They are also supporting Nothing But Thieves in Luxembourg in June, and are set to play under rock giants Guns N Roses, The Pretenders, and The Darkness at Hyde Park this summer.

Listen to “Can’t Be Mine” from Bad Nerves below:

The announcement of both Bad Nerves and Hot Wax supporting them in North America is huge news for all parties.

The news of support acts comes after Royal Blood announced a UK and Ireland tour as well, set to happen this October. This is shown here:

Despite all of the news, Royal Blood very recently courted controversy after having a meltdown on stage whilst performing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Read more about it here.

British award winning rock two piece Royal Blood have courted controversy after their fiery festival performance.

The band, based in Brighton, has enjoyed massive success over the years after announcing themselves on the rock scene in 2014 with their self-titled debut album. The overwhelming warm feeling for the band is set to be put to the test however, as the duo were filmed criticising the crowds at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Performing on the festival’s main stage, frontman Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher mocked the audience accusing them of a lacklustre vibe and labelling them ‘pathetic’. During the band’s set, Kerr addressed the masses saying, “well, I guess I should introduce ourselves seeing as no one actually knows who we are. We’re called Royal Blood and this is rock music. Who likes rock music? Nine people, brilliant.”

Kerr went on to castigate the crowd, telling them that the band needed to clap for themselves since the reaction from spectators was pathetic. As the set came to a close, Kerr could be seen throwing down his guitar and walking off the stage as he gave the finger to the perplexed crowd.

The BBC removed the performance from their online coverage but reaction to the band has drawn many into a debate as to where and who the fault lies with: some have slammed the band, others have supported the duo and some have even laid blame at the festival’s door.

Some fans have expressed shock at the band’s behaviour, pointing out that Royal Blood need not show up to play festivals if they do not feel they fit in with the bill, with a Twitter user commenting, “the arrogance is absolutely off the scale.” Others have accused the band of being entitled whingers, lacking a respect for the audience. Some fans of the group have weighed in, saying a large band who have the ability to sell out festivals deserve more of a reaction from fans and can understand the reaction.

The rock band Royal Blood have got live music the wrong way round. You don’t get automatic applause & affirmation from a crowd; you have to earn it. Talk abt entitlement. And don’t try it in Dundee where folk ran Churchill out of town! pic.twitter.com/81EM6S6UCo

— Gerry Hassan (@GerryHassan) May 30, 2023

Still some others believe the festival should take responsibility adding a band to the lineup that may not exactly fit in with the rest of the headlining acts. Attracting a younger more pop slanted concert goer, some believe Royal Blood may have been comfortable on a more rock oriented festival instead of Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

State of the responses to this. Royal Blood will be co-headlining at the biggest festival in the world this summer. They deserve the crowd to be giving it a bit. Proper music like this is dying now a days. Kids haven’t got a clue. — Ryan (@Ryan0102030406) May 29, 2023

Festival organisers put them on between Niall Horan and Lewis Capaldi, who’s idea was that?

— Askern Music Fest (@AskernMF) May 29, 2023

No matter which way one feels about the ‘tantrum’ thrown by a famous act, the debate surrounding on stage meltdowns will continue to divide opinion, with Royal Blood by no means being the first band to lose their cool in front of large audiences.

YNOT festival have officially unveiled the line-up for the 2023 edition of the festival. Although more is due to be released, the top headliners Royal Blood, Kasabian and the Wombats will join Paul Weller, James, and DMA’S for the festival in Derbyshire. Bombay Bicycle Club are due to play early on Thursday for the most eager of festival-goers. It is the second edition since the festival had to be cancelled for two years in a row in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.

The organisers spoke of the new acts on the Instagram post below, saying “SO excited to welcome The Lathums, Sea Girls, Mystery Jets, Pigeon Detectives, Heather Small, Yonaka, Caity Baser, Thomas Headon, CMAT, late night DJs Hannah Wants & Faithless, comedy headliners Dom Joly & Angelos Epithemou, the return of Barrioke + LOADS LOADS MORE to the Peaks this summer. It’s going to be the biggest one yet.”

There are plenty of acts for fans and festival goers to be excited for.

The rock duo Royal Blood are headlining after the surprise release of a new single “Honeybrains” in March, and with rumours circulating of a new album. They are playing in between other festivals, supporting Muse on select dates for their world tour, and their own tour dates. They tweeted about their headline slot:

They keep on coming. We’ll be headlining @ynotfestival in July. It’s time to roll with the rockers so we can rock with the rollers. https://t.co/u90sdSXlLH pic.twitter.com/vZFrfSGshc

— Royal Blood (@royalblooduk) February 2, 2023

Alongside them are rock band Kasabian, playing the festival after the success of their seventh album The Alchemist’s Euphoria last year. The band sold out their last UK tour in the winter, with fellow YNOT-performers The Lathums as support.

Liverpudlian indie rock band The Wombats will also be returning to headline the festival. The band formed in 2003, and achieved their first UK number one album last year, with Fix Yourself, Not The World.

Get your towels ready.

Pre-sale access will be available at 10 am on Thursday 9 February, followed by tickets available for purchase the next day on Friday 10 February at 10 am.

Royal Blood were also announced as one of the headliners for the Y Not Festival not long ago. This upcoming summer, they will be headlining Truck Festival alongside Alt-J, Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats and Kendal Calling 2023 at the Lake District. They will also accompany Muse on their UK and European Tour, commencing on May 27 at Plymouth.

In the Truck Festival which takes place on July 21-23, Royal Blood expressed their thoughts about their headlining position. They said, “After being booked to play in 2021, we can’t wait to finally head to Oxfordshire and headline Truck Festival this summer! Expect a party.”

Frontman and vocalist, Mike Kerr spoke to NME last year about their leading single, Honeybrains, which Kerr described as “a snapshot of right now.” including more “inclusive” music that would follow. He said to NME, “Even with “Typhoons” (2021 album), which was more of a departure than anything we’d done before, it’s never a designed or premeditated idea. We just follow what we’re feeling at the time. Having just made that record, we felt the most free, secure and unlimited. No thought went into this track- in the best possible way! I wasn’t writing for any reason. I wasn’t trying to write a single or the next Royal Blood song; I was just making music.”

The duo consists of bassist and vocalist, Mike Kerr and drummer, Ben Thatcher formed in 2013. They are known for their powerful and high-energy dynamics in most live performances, not to mention the electric drums Ben uses can change into different snare sounds, once the snare is hit. Their style consists of various combinations of punk, blues and hard rock that create a unique and electrifying musical experience.

Their self-titled debut album in 2014 rose to recognition, reaching number one on the UK album charts. Following up on their second album, How Did We Get So Dark? released in 2017 also received the widespread recognition that it truly deserved.

The main characteristics of their performance include a heavy bassline and beating drums which combine their uniqueness for a massive sound for their two-piece lineup. Overall, their neverending energy in live performances has been proven to be one of the most exciting acts ever, plus they have been touring extensively across the UK and Europe, as well as performing at very massive festivals like Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.

After tickets went on sale for the UK leg of Muse’s supermassive ‘Will Of The People World Tour’ with Royal Blood, everyone else in the world was left waiting for a time. It was inevitable that the dates would be announced eventually, but why have we been kept waiting so long?! Fortunately, that time has now passed and we have 10 more dates across Europe, maintaining the stadium scale that we have become so used to from Muse. Most tickets go on sale this Friday (September 16th) at 10am (local time), the only exception being the French shows that go on sale Next Thursday (September 22nd). You can find full ticket information here.

Tickets for most dates are on sale Friday 10am local, French shows go on sale Thursday 22nd at 10am local. pic.twitter.com/XvdNv1gFyL

— muse (@muse) September 12, 2022

The band released their 9th LP, Will Of The People, a few weeks back and wow… what an experience that album is. Regardless of how on board you are of Muse’s trademark bombast, it’s undeniable that the album takes every conceivable dial and turns it as far as it’ll go – sometimes to its detriment. In an attempt to keep up with the current musical landscape the band also made the decision to sell their album in an NFT format. Making them the first artist to make UK number 1 with the implemented technology.

2 weeks ago, the band released their most recent single, “You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween”, alongside the full album. Exploring their more overtly spooky tendencies, the track sees the band go full Danny Elfman for about 4 minutes. The Tom Teller-directed music video forces as many references to 80’s horror cult classics that it almost feels like a trailer to a pseudo-MCU horror movie, but with the guys from ‘Scream’ instead of Iron Man. You can check out the video below.

As mentioned before, the group announced the UK leg of the tour a few weeks back. With support from Royal Blood, the 4-night tour will see – probably – some massive-scale shows at some of the country’s biggest venues. The shows will kick off at Plymouth’s Home Park on 27th May 2023. Tickets have already gone on sale so you can try to bag any remaining spots here. If the band’s history is anything to rely on, the shows will carry the tradition of just trying to do everything they did on the last tour… but bigger. Expect massive puppets on stage, fireworks, and maybe even some people floating over the crowd. Who’s to say.

Muse’s UK tour dates:

27/05/23 – Home Park – Plymouth
20/06 – John Smith’s Stadium – Huddersfield
23/06 – Bellahouston Park – Glasgow
25/06 – The National Bowl – Milton Keynes

The tour commemorates their ninth studio album Will Of The People. The first single from the album, ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ was released in July with frontman Matt Bellamy describing it as “Muse at their heaviest.” He told NME: “Lyrically the song takes influence from my favourite Paul McCartney song ‘Live And Let Die’, a dark take on how life’s adversity can sometimes bring out the worst human instincts to survival at any costs.”

That means this album might have a metal track on it – and it’s like, the best metal track we’ve ever done. Or there’s a sort of soft ballad, love song and it’s probably the best ballad love song we’ve ever done, and so on.”

Both the single and album have been released to strong reviews with Kerrang! describing the band as “masters of what they are doing” and agreeing with Matt Bellamy’s description of ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ saying the single alongside “the defiant Won’t Stand Down are some of the heaviest things the band have ever done.” Planet Radio described the album as “hyper-eclectic” and “ambitious.” The album is due for release on 26th August via Warner Records and can be pre-ordered here.

The “Trouble’s Coming” hitmaker’s new single is sure to be a fan favourite; “Honeybrains” brings together the band’s signature rock sound with catchy hooks found within modern pop songs. An artistic black and white music video accompanied the single’s release. Within the video the band can be seen performing in a room of mirrors. The video also acts as a perfect representative of the song’s lyrics, the erratic effects used compliment the song’s narrative themes of anxiety and survival.

The duo consisting of vocalist/guitarist/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher first rose to fame with the release of their self-titled debut album, Royal Blood became an overnight success, securing a Mercury prize nomination in 2014. The album also garnered commercial success, reaching number one with the album charts whilst introducing music fans to the group’s unique use of instrumentation.

“Honeybrains” is the first single to be released by Royal Blood in just under a year. “Limbo” was released on the 25th March 2021 and was the third track to be taken from the group’s latest album. The band’s third and most recent studio album was released on 30th April 2021, Typhoons was a huge commercial success and reached number one within the UK album charts. The release also gained great favour within the group’s fanbase, and whilst retaining the elements which propelled their popularity, Typhoons also saw the band experiment with different genres such as dance and disco.

The English rockers have recently discussed their dream venues, the duo who formed their musical partnership in Worthing, a seaside town in West Sussex and have both stated that they enjoy playing hometown shows. Thatcher spoke further on the matter and expressed his fantasy of performing at Brighton and hove Albion’s stadium, “The obvious one for me is The Amex. For the obvious reasons, it’s a big, big place. The beach would be like a fabulous thing that would be fun. With those places, there’s a lot of organisation that needs to go into those things and it can be very costly as well. Whereas you have the Brighton Centre which is set up already and is the biggest place around really. We love playing The Dome as well, which is one of my favourite venues to watch other bands. But want to get those extra fans in.”

The new track has been released ahead of the band’s upcoming arena tour; the band’s UK 2022 dates mark the group’s biggest tour to date. The UK leg kicks off with a performance in Swansea on 19th March 2022, the nine-date tour concludes with a performance at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on 3rd April 2022.
