Faithless are back. For those of you who thought they were gone for good, your faith has been rewarded.

Because Faithless have announced their first live shows in eight years.

The band, who was originally comprised of, Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo Armstrong, had incredible success during their time in the limelight. And despite releasing new music in 2020, the dance music band has been relatively quiet since the passing of singer Maxi Jazz in 2022.

Returning after an eight-year live music hiatus, the English electronic legends are set to embark on a four-date run in June – a tour which will culminate with a homecoming show at London’s Roundhouse. The tour, dubbed as ‘The Champion Sound Tour’, will make stops in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam, which will see Faithless joined by a seven-piece band as they perform a mixture of music ‘old and new’.

Speaking to DJ Mag about Faithless’ return to the live arena, founding member Sister Bliss said: “These shows are going to be a celebration of all our years in music – what we love, what we stand for as a band, and a real tribute to Maxi as well.”

“We’ve been working on this for months now so there is a theme, there is a feeling, there is a vibe to the show, and it’s exciting,” she continued. “It will still have the rawness and edge that our shows are known for, and I think that’s because we’ve thought really hard about what we want to say both sonically and visually.”

The shows themselves will pay tribute to vocalist and bandmate Maxi Jazz, who passed away in December 2022 at the age of just 65. “Obviously he won’t be there with us, but he’ll be there in spirit, and so the whole thing is a very new and different thing for us,” Sister Bliss shared. “I really hope people are going to get stuck in and dance, and really lose themselves in the music, because that’s what people have always done at a Faithless gig.”

In their own words, Faithless write:

“As many of you have noticed, we’re back…Some shows have already been announced but we couldn’t start the summer without a little personal note. Maxi died just over a year ago and obviously we miss him every day. Thank you all for all of your kind words of support over this last year. It has really, really meant a lot.

In the meantime, we never stopped (couldn’t stop, never wanted to stop!) making music. Even during Maxi’s long illness we recorded and released ‘All Blessed’ and now finally, eight years after our last live performance, we are returning to festival stages across the summer and are planning some of our own shows later this year…”

The band will also return to the UK this summer for festival season performing three special sets at Glastonbury, Wilderness, and Bestival.

Faithless have also confirmed that a new full-length album has been completed.

Boston alternative punk icons Pixies have announced that they will be returning to the UK in 2023 as part of a new European tour. The band have shared news that they will play several venues in the UK in March, including London’s Roundhouse (you can check out full UK and European tour dates below).

The tour announcement comes after Pixies released their eighth full studio album, Doggerel, in September. The album came out on the Infectious Music label, to largely positive critical response. The release was preceded by the singles “There’s a Moon On”, “Vault of Heaven” and “Dregs of the Wine”. The recording process for the new album was also filmed, becoming a short documentary on the band that was released in June 2022.

In a recent press release discussing the new album, guitarist Joey Santiago said, “This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”

Vocalist/ guitarist Black Francis went on to add, “We’re trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can be doing with this extra special energy we’re encountering.”

The new album also marks the first songwriting credits for Joey Santiago on two of its tracks, “Dregs of the Wine” and “Pagan Man”. Vocalist/ guitarist Black Francis said of “Pagan Man“, the album’s final song, “I was not in the mood to compose a lyric because I was already spent, if you will. So Joey wrote the lyric.” He went on to explain that the song was, “an unfinished bit of music that the producer kept insisting that we try again”. Doggerel was recorded in Vermont’s Guildford Sound, an eco-friendly recording studio, with the basis for many songs being the pre-recorded demos Black Francis had created in the time following the band’s seventh album release, 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie.

Check out footage of the band performing their new single, “There’s a Moon On”, live from Manchester’s Band on the Wall earlier this year.

The Moldy Peaches’ Adam Green and Kimya Dawson reunited for new shows on the West Coast of the States, to accompany screenings of New York rock scene documentary Meet Me in the Bathroom. The Peaches themselves feature in the documentary, along with other 2000s New York icons, such as The Strokes, Interpol, TV on the Radio and The Rapture. Dawson and Green’s first performance together in over a decade took place at the Los Angeles premier of the film, going on to play a show in Seattle. They followed the new shows with an announcement that they will continue to play together, and plan to reunite the rest of the six-piece lineup. This will be the first time the Moldy Peaches have played together as a full band in two decades.

Since the Peaches’ hiatus as a band began in 2004, both Green and Dawson have been working on their respective solo projects, with Green releasing seven solo albums, as well as a film, Adam Green’s Aladdin, in 2016. Kimya Dawson continued to tour in her own right, and put out several studio albums, among them 2006’s critically acclaimed Remember That I Love You on K Records.

Talking about the reunion, Adam and Kimya said, “We’re excited to be back, older and moldier. Let’s see if we still got it! Once a Moldy Peach always a Moldy Peach.”

After several new US dates, the Peaches have announced that they will play the Roundhouse in London on May 29th. Following that, they will go on to feature as part of the Primavera Sound lineup in Barcelona and Madrid in June. You can read more about the full Primavera lineup and dates here.

French composer Yann Tiersen has made a new announcement – an upcoming album from him is due out later this year. It’ll be released on June 10th via Mute and should be available on both CD and digitally. Being called 11 5 18 2 5 18, the release should excite electronic music fans the world over as the man behind the soundtrack to Amélie is back yet again. Two tracks have been released and you can tell there’s a certain pattern emerging. The song 16 15 21 12 12. 2 15 10 5 18 and the album’s title track can be heard below.

The work will be Tiersen’s 13th studio LP, and follows on from 2021’s Kerber. Working on the French island of Ushant in his Eskal Studio, he started experimenting in the run-up to a performance at Berlin’s modular and synthesizer Superbooth festival. The album shows him taking a number of samples and turning them into something new, using his experience in resampling and reprogramming techniques. If you want to pre-order the album, you can look here.

English singer-songwriter Frank Turner will play four different shows at North London’s Roundhouse for the fourth edition of his ‘Lost Evenings’ Festival. The shows will take place from Thursday, September 16th to Sunday, September 19th. The event will see other rooms – such as the building’s rooms, bars and outdoor spaces – utilised for additional talks and performances, which are presented under the name of ‘Last Minutes’.

The first night Turner will perform acoustically with Matt Nasir, supported by Grace Petrie and Emily Barker. During the second performance, the singer will present material from his three albums as well as some new songs, backed up by Jamie Lenman and PET NEEDS. On the Saturday show, Turner will celebrate the 10th anniversary of his fourth album ‘England Keep My Bones’, and the opening acts will be Nova Twins and The Lottery Winners. The last show will be a showcase of the songwriter’s greatest hits, with support from Skinny Lister and Guise.

“After a thoroughly miserable year for live music – not least having to cancel the Berlin Lost Evenings event last year – I’m ecstatic to say we’re bringing the festival back to where it started, at the Roundhouse London in Camden Town.”, the artist says. “It’s going to be a family affair – old friends (Grace, Jamie, Skinny Lister) and new (Nova Twins, Lottery Winners, Pet Needs), and just a huge celebration of what we all missed lately – getting together for a singalong.”

The Nick Alexander Stage – named after Turner’s longtime friend and merchandiser who was killed during the Bataclan terrorist attacks in 2016 – will be running non stop across these four days. Last year’s event was supposed to take place in Berlin but was cancelled due to the pandemic. More information on the line-up and tickets can be found here.
