Depeche Mode have released eight remixes of their track “Ghosts Again” from their 15th studio album, Memento Mori.

The Ghosts Again (Remixes) collection includes remixes from Luke Slater, Matthew Herbert and Chris Liebling, amongst others.

Memento Mori is the first album Depeche Mode have released since the tragic passing of their bandmate, Andy Fletcher in 2022. Following the loss of their friend, founding member and synth player, frontman Dave Gahan and guitarist/keyboardist Martin Gore have channeled the emotions of such an event into a powerful and reflective album.

“Ghosts Again” focuses on themes of partings and loss, with the remixes offering different interpretations of the moving track.

Amongst the remixes is a strings-only version of the track, contributed by Davide Rossi. Rossi also recorded strings for the Memento Mori album, and said, “I wanted to do this [remix] as a tribute to my love for the band. I am so thrilled that they decided to keep it and release it.”

Chris Liebling, who teamed up with Luke Slater for another remix of “Ghosts Again” commented, “I have been a big fan of Depeche Mode for so many years. They have influenced the way that I think about music and DJ. I’m extremely grateful that I could not only do another remix, but that I also got to do it with one of the biggest legends in techno world [Luke Slater].”

Luke Slater shared his thoughts on collaborating with Depeche Mode too, saying, “When I was a kid I was buying Depeche Mode 7-inches, the early ones. I remember that well…What I love about Depeche Mode is that over the years they have just formed a world of themselves…They’ve kind of covered this timeless zone and I think that’s really special.”

Slater’s comment on Depeche Mode’s own world being formed became even more true following the passing of Andy Fletcher, with Dave Gahan and Martin Gore needing to re-establish their relationship to one another and their work dynamic as a duo.

Gahan shared, “Martin described it as two long-lost brothers meeting for the first time and having to have a real conversation. It was about getting to know each other in a different way. Not that we don’t know each other well, but in terms of having a close friendship? That’s never really been the deal between Martin and I.”

Gore explained, “Me and Dave never had any big issues or problems with each other, but we tended to be kind of distant. With there only being two of us left, that has led us to be closer and to talk more.”

These themes are very evident in this track, with collaborator Matthew Herbert saying, “I quite liked the idea of ‘We’ll be ghosts again’…everyone vanished from the dancefloor. The idea of the temporary community that’s being built.”

The track listing for Ghosts Again (Remixes) is below:

1. Ghosts Again Massano Remix
2. ‘Ghosts Again Chris Liebing vs Luke Slater Remix
3. ‘Ghosts Again Miss Grit Remix
4. ‘Ghosts Again Rival Consoles Remix
5. ‘Ghosts Again Matthew Herbert’s Feelings Remix

“We’ve always loved that meditative but propulsive thing in [Four Tet aka] Kieran [Hebden]’s music”, said Everything But the Girl in a press release. “The restraint mixed with momentum. It is something that we often explore as well, so asking him to rework one of our songs felt like a great fit. There is a confident lightness of touch to his remix, underpinned by a raw killer beat, and a beautiful final third where all the subtle intricacies of his additional production coalesce.”

“Nothing Left to Lose” was originally released on the 10th January and is the lead single from Everything But the Girl’s forthcoming album Fuse set to release on the 21st of this month. On the two other singles released from the album, “Caution to the Wind” and “Run a Red Light”, the band embraces a nocturnal and repetitive soundscape mixing deep house and downtempo.

The band from Hull was first formed in 1982 and is made up of Tracey Thorn and Ben Wyatt. Fuse will be the duo’s 11th album and their first album since 1999’s Temperamental.

Kieran Hebden, better known under the moniker Four Tet, first rose to fame as a member of the post-punk band Fridge. The DJ from Putney first began releasing solo material under the name Four Tet in 1998 and is heralded as a pioneer of the folktronica genre. He has released 11 studio albums under the alias and has remixed tracks by Tegan And Sara, Madvillain, Bloc Party, Super Furry Animals, The xx, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Lana Del Rey, J Dilla, and most recently worked with Fred again… and Skrillex.

With their album Fear Fear looming hot on the horizon (arriving on the 15th of July 2022), Working Men’s Club have announced a new EP which is titled The Steel City. The collection, which is being released exclusively through Sheffield’s prized record store Bear Tree will be chock full of tasty remixes by Toddla T, Charla Green, Ross Orton, Diessa and Forgemasters.

As the title suggests, this new EP pays its respects to the great City of Sheffield and its monumental music history. In a statement made by the band, they declared; “Both our albums were produced in a studio in Sheffield, to celebrate the cities influence we have pulled together some of the cities most innovative producers to remix songs from FEAR FEAR”.

Can’t believe Rob and Winnie Forgemasters have remixed ‘The Last One’. Got such a great and diverse collection coming in line with Fear Fears release. Very pleased with the outcome of Steel City EP. Get on this x”

One of the producers set to reimagine songs from the new album is Sheffield native Charla Green, who said;“It was lovely to work on a remix for Working Men’s Club and put a Jungle twist on it, Sheffield’s music scene has a lot to offer so it’s nice to see alternative scenes working together. I’ve also loved Heavenly Recordings for a long time so that was a bonus.”

Ross Orton added; “Not done a remix in ages but getting asked to remix the mighty WMC felt like a buzz, Here’s my wobbly take on a very heavy ‘future’ Sheffield style classic!”

“As the original version stank of Sheffield, I wanted to do something that I would be itching to play in a set back home” Said Toddla T. “Particularly at Kabal or if I wasn’t in attendance something that I know Winnie or Pipes would draw for which was made for the dancefloors of Sheffield.”

Finally, Forgemaster noted; “We think this remix has taken the song to another level of spirituality, may the Fonk be with you.”

“GoGo Penguin have been hailed as the Radiohead of British jazz, but they draw equally on rock, jazz and minimalist influences, alongside the intricacy of Aphex Twin and Four Tet to create their punchy, experimental but always beautiful music”, a vast number of genre and artist influences as listed in their Spotify bio creates the perfect foundation for a remix album of the nu-jazz powerhouse.

After the band featuring pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Rob Turner obtained notoriety after their Mercury Prize success, they have been building up their relations and collaboration with a handful of artists across all genres, as displayed in this new remix album titled ‘GGP/RMX’. The Manchester band have tapped a star studded roster of artists to tackle songs from their previous self-titled album from 2020. The eleven track affair sees remixes from ten different GoGo Penguin songs from artists all across the globe.

Artists involved in the project include Japanese experimental pop artist Cornelius, dancefloor heavyweight and IAMSIAM record label owner Machinedrum, electronic and nature infused musician Yosi Horikawa, French producer Rone, experimental drum & bass legend Squarepusher, British tech-house artist Nathan Fake, 80s dance hitmakers 808 State, electronic musician James Holden, multi-instrumentalist and producer Shunya, renowned British producer Clark and closing out with fellow British jazz group Portico Quartet.

GGP/RMX is available for purchase on the Blue Note Records store as a download or as a double vinyl LP. The hour long project comes complete with two records, one in blue and one in red and comes with a digital download upon purchase. The album is also available on all major streaming services right now. You can stream it on Spotify here below.

All female indie rock, neo-psychedelia, post-punk and everything in between band Goat Girl have released their extended play ‘Sad Cowboy (Remixes)’ as a reprise to the highly acclaimed album ‘On All Fours’ which saw its release in January of this year.

The EP includes five tracks over two sides. The first side includes the original track followed by Portuguese producer Nidia’s remix, an inventive artist who merges lots of afro-portugese dance styles into her music including kuduro, batida and tarraxhina. Side B treats us to remixes from the likes of London three-piece band PVA, a genre bending group consisting of London musicians Ella Harris, Josh Baxter and Louis Satchell. This group started out performing at The Brixton Windmill, the same venue that gave Goat Girl exposure early in their career also.

British-Nigerian electronic artist Tony Njoku also gave the track his own take on things. This experimental producer blends sensual vocals with glitchy and lively production. The last remix comes with Cameron Picton (also known as DJ Dairy) from the experimental outfit and Mercury Prize nominated Black Midi, a solo side project from the bassist and vocalist taking a more electronic approach to that of his bandmates.

The twenty-two-minute EP is available to purchase in the form of a 12 inch record. The vinyl comes in black and currently has a limited run of only 850 copies stocked by retailer Rough Trade Records. The record comes complete with the beautiful psychedelic album artwork from the EP, fitting in with the band’s visual identity well. Sad Cowboy (Remixes) is available on all major streaming services right now to listen to.

After the success of their album ‘On All Fours’, Goat Girl are returning with a handful of remixes to the cut ‘Sad Cowboy’ from the 2021 LP. The band consisting of vocalist/guitarist Clottie Cream, guitarist L.E.D, drummer Rosy Bones and bassist Holy Hole have burst onto the scene in recent years. After signing with Rough Trade Records in 2016, the all-female band have gone from playing gigs at Brixton pub The Windmill, to releasing two albums, a self-titled affair in 2018 and the current sophomore project On All Fours, to which these remixes are for.

Rough Trade states “Goat Girl will be releasing a 12” featuring Remixes of ‘Sad Cowboy’ one of the standout tracks from their new album On All Fours as a limited edition of 850 copies on May 7th”. There are four artists providing their own take on the track. The first side includes the original track followed by Portuguese producer Nidia’s remix. Side B treats us to remixes from the likes of London three-piece band PVA, British-Nigerian electronic artist Tony Njoku and Cameron Picton (also known as DJ Dairy) from the experimental outfit and Mercury Prize nominated Black Midi.

With the early May release date a while away, the band have given fans a taste of what is to come with the release of the PVA Remix today. The four minute track creates an impressive take on the original, beginning with house grooves and descending into rave ready electro infused piece. The song is available on all major streaming services along with the full remix EP on 7th May, with vinyl pre-orders being dispatched in line with global release. Listen to ‘Sad Cowboy (PVA Remix)’ whilst we wait for the rest of the tracks to arrive below. You can also pre-order one of the 850 physicals from Rough Trade here.

Caribou has announced a re-release and remixed version of his album Suddenly is coming this Spring, 2021. The album will consist of many collaborations with UK artists, never-before-heard remixes and some that have already featured on the previously released Suddenly. The new remixed album will be titled Suddenly Remixes and will be released March 12 via Verge.

Among the artists that will feature on Suddenly Remixes is UK’s hot artist Four Tet on his version of the track Never Come Back. Among the artists who will feature for the first time on the new album are Toro y Moi, Jessy Lanza, Prince Nifty, and Koreless, all who have produced remixes for Never Come Back, Home, You and I and others.

When discussing the upcoming Suddenly Remixes, Caribou stated that, ‘Sometimes remixes are commissioned to be marketing tools or to make the music functional in a club. But for me, there’s only one reason to get remixes done: because I’m a giddy fan of the remixer. Looking down the tracklisting of this remix album, it’s a thrill to see a list of producers whose music I find so inspiring collected there. Some are established artists, some are just starting out; some I messaged, begging a remix, right after coming across their music for the first time; and some are dear friends whose music I’ve loved for a while—but in every case, I feel very lucky to hear their music and mine connected on this remix album.

The original album Suddenly was released Februrary 28th, 2020 and in October of that year, Caribou released the first round of remixes for the album via EP. The remixed EP consisted of two remixes for the song Sunny’s Time, one by Kareem Ali and the other by Logic1000.

Like I Loved You by India Jordan and Shanti Celeste produced Ravi. The remixed singles Sister and Never Come Back were however released 3 months earlier, which was the beginning of the long slew of remixes to come for Caribou in the years 2020 and 2021.

Suddenly Remixes Tracklist:

01 Never Come Back (Koreless Remix)
02 Never Come Back (Four Tet Remix)
03 Home (Toro y Moi Remix)
04 Sunny’s Time (Logic1000 Remix)
05 Sister (Floating Points Remix)

Grimes announced today the upcoming release of a remixed Rave Edition of her previous album Miss Anthropocene which was released in February of 2020. The album will be released on New Years Day and will feature remixes from REZZ, ANNA, Britain’s own Richie Hawtin, rapper Channel Tres, EU’s Modeselektor and BloodPop. Every track on Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition will be a remix with the exception of the tracks 4ÆM and Before The Fever.

On September 5, 2019, Grimes released the music video for the first single release off the Miss Anthropocene album Violence which featured the artist i_o on one of the last tracks he worked on before his death last month. In October of 2019 an unfinished version of Miss Anthropocene leaked online, prompting Grimes to release an art mix and an algorithm mix of the Miss Anthropocene single So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth, which will be the first remixed track on the upcoming album. The artist preformed her now famous song 4æm for the first time at the 2019 Video Game Awards to introduce her character in the game Cyberpunk 2077 which was released 2 weeks ago.

Grimes will feature many musicians, mixers and producers on Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition that are from UK and EU, including British-producer Richie Hawtin. Hawtin remixed the single Darkseid, which was recently released as a new remix, acting as Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition’s second single release. The only other previously released remix from this new album is the latest version of So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth, this version has been mixed by ANNA.

Along with the album release in February, the multiple features and singles released this year, Grimes recently announced the single AI Lullaby with Endel, which acts a sound-escape for children to help them sleep; this is likely inspired by Grimes recent birth of her child X Æ A-12 with Elon Musk. Grimes has also been busy promoting her latest Cyberpunk game which features the song Delicate Weapon which was released along with the game on December 18th.

Grimes does not have any upcoming tour-dates in 2020 or 2021, however, it is unclear whether that is because of safety concerns surrounding the Covid-19 global pandemic, or because she has not headlined a tour since 2016. However, when discussing her latest musical style and genre in the tracks released since 2016, Grimes stated that her music is unplaylistable – which is a huge problem. This not pop. This is not rock. They’re not discernible genres.

Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition will be released at midnight in the UK on New Years Day, the original album Miss Anthropocene, along with her various singles released in 2020 are all available for streaming on all platforms. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on eBay and Grimes has a new colouring book available for purchase as well. No ticket sales are available at this time.
