The Cure formed in Crawley in 1976 and produced a unique gothic weirdness that quickly amassed a large fanbase from their debut album ‘Grinding Halt’ in 1985. Since then the British rock band has released fourteen studio albums. Their latest release ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ in 2024 topped five US album charts following its release. The album features eight dynamic tracks including ‘Warsong’, a classically moody song– lyrically macabre from the first line ‘Oh, it’s misery the way we fight’.

Moreno, vocalist of nu-metal band Deftones released his cover of ‘Warsong’ as part of The Cure’s remix album ‘Mixes Of A Lost World’, out on 13 June. The album has also had covers released by Paul Oakenfield and Four Tet.

Vocalist of The Cure, Robert Smith, shared his thoughts on the ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ album in a rare video interview in 2024. He reveals that this album felt “more natural” since their last release was a celebration of their 40th anniversary, which Smith felt had the wrong tone and gave a sense of, “Here’s The Cure after 40 years, be amazed”. Here, he also shares his thoughts on the album’s creation, revealing that he came across a book about Slovenian sculpture and saw a picture of a head “emerging from rock”. He then had a reflective moment where he knew that this would be the album cover.

In an interview with Rolling Stones, Moreno shared his inspiration for the direction he took with the remix. Moreno’s respect for the track comes through in the cover as he upholds the integrity of the song. He shares that he aimed to “strip it back slightly of its organic instrumentation and bring in ridged, mechanical percussion and some down-pitched vocals aimed to bring forth the cold/dystopic feel of the song while maintaining the core beauty of what existed.”. The remixed song shares this blend of The Cure’s melodic intention with Moreno’s smooth shoegaze vibe.

Deftones share a large fanbase with The Cure, releasing nine studio albums since 1988. Their early albums showcased a quintessential nu-metal sound, though their latest music has evolved to alt-rock with albums like ‘White Pony’. The two bands have an ongoing musical relationship with Smith covering Deftones’ ‘Teenagers’ from the ‘White Pony’ album for the band’s 20th anniversary remix album ‘Black Stallion’.

‘Mixes Of A Lost World’ is available to pre-order now, which Smith has revealed he will give all recording royalties of to War Child UK.

The British producer and DJ (also known by Kieran Hebden), took to the stage this past weekend, where he surprised fans and attendees with fresh, unreleased material during his set. Sharing a clip in his latest Instagram carousel post, Four Tet captured the moment he unveiled his remix of ‘Alone’, the 2024 comeback single from Robert Smith and co. The track is a standout from their 14th studio album ‘Songs of a Lost World’, which earned three BRIT nominations.

‘Songs of a Lost World’ earned The Cure their first UK #1 album in 32 years, receiving rave reviews from critics – even earning five stars from publications such as NME and The Guardian.
Teasing two new records on the way, the legendary alt rock band have a lot to catch up for, their last album being 2008”s ‘4:13 Dream’. Most recently, The Cure have released a live version in support of their latest record: ‘Songs of a Live World: Troxy London MMXXIV’. The recording features a back-to-back rendition of the acclaimed ‘Songs of a Lost World’, captured during their album launch performance at Troxy, London November 1. As well as playing the entirety of the eight-track record, the band also played many fan favourites, gracing fans with ‘Pictures of You’. A Night Like This’, and ‘From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea’. The performance also featured a nod to the 45th anniversary of The Cure’s sophomore album ‘Seventeen Seconds’ (1980) – taking attendees back in time, revisiting niche classics like ‘A Play For Today’ and early-Cure favourite ‘A Forest’.

This will be the final song from the Beatles, as the track was created by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr with John Lennon and George Harrison being incorporated with the help of AI software, via using isolated demo tracks. The song was mentioned by both McCartney and Starr across the year, and its release was hinted earlier this week with projection images of cassettes across important landmarks related to the band in Liverpool like the Cavern Club and Strawberry Fields.

The track ‘Now and Then’, was first wrote by John Lennon in the late 1970’s, with a demo recorded with just piano and vocals from Lennon in his New York home. The recording was given to McCartney, Starr and Harrison in 1994, alongside already released demo recordings: ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’, tracks that were released in the mid 1990’s as part of The Beatles Anthology.

Technological limitations at the time meant that the band couldn’t build upon the demo mix of ‘Now and Then’ as they did with the other songs, because they couldn’t find a way to separate Lennon’s piano and vocals to create a clear mix, something which was able to be achieved with modern day AI technology. George Harrison’s widow, Olivia commented on this, saying: “Back in 1995, after several days in the studio working on the track, George felt the technical issues with the demo were insurmountable and concluded that it was not possible to finish the track to a high enough standard”.

Paul McCartney commented on the new recording saying: “It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023 to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.” Ringo Starr also added: “It was the closest we’ll ever come to having him back in the room so it was very emotional for all of us. It was like John was there, you know. It’s far out.”

The creation of the new song was inspired by the AI audio technology used in the Peter Jackson ‘Get Back’ documentary, which released in 2021 as the technology was able to isolate conversations from videos of recording sessions of Let It Be. The band used the technology to remix Revolver in 2022, before deciding to use the technology to revisit ‘Now and Then’.

The Red and Blue compilation albums will also be reissued and remixed the following week on November 10th, with 21 tracks being newly added, 9 on Blue and 12 on Red. This includes newly mixed tracks from singles and albums that had not been previously remixed across the past 6 years with tracks like ‘Help!’ from Help!, ‘Nowhere Man’ from Rubber Soul and ‘Hey Bulldog’ from Yellow Submarine Soundtrack, just to name a few.

Now, Boys Noize has taken a turn reworking the single and has added his own, high speed spin on the track-ensuring the song is a hit on the dance floor once again.

Boys Noize of his newest release, “when the request came in I was quite excited to take this on. I really enjoyed the challenge making the classic work in my DJ sets, speeding it up and making it pop on new sound systems. Besides the vocals, some of the original worked really well in my new musical dress too-it’s really fun to play this one!”

Formed in London and Ireland in 1980, Bananarama were an unprecedented success for an all female pop/dance group, announcing themselves on the scene with a top ten collaboration with Fun Boy Three on “It Ain’t What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do It).” The group would have similar chart topping success throughout the 80s with songs such as “Cruel Summer,” “Love In The First Degree,” and “I Want You Back.”

“We’ve always loved that meditative but propulsive thing in [Four Tet aka] Kieran [Hebden]’s music”, said Everything But the Girl in a press release. “The restraint mixed with momentum. It is something that we often explore as well, so asking him to rework one of our songs felt like a great fit. There is a confident lightness of touch to his remix, underpinned by a raw killer beat, and a beautiful final third where all the subtle intricacies of his additional production coalesce.”

“Nothing Left to Lose” was originally released on the 10th January and is the lead single from Everything But the Girl’s forthcoming album Fuse set to release on the 21st of this month. On the two other singles released from the album, “Caution to the Wind” and “Run a Red Light”, the band embraces a nocturnal and repetitive soundscape mixing deep house and downtempo.

Charli has now made waves with her decision to part with Atlantic Records, whom she signed a five album deal with at just 16 years old. The details of her new record deal have not yet been revealed, but Charli did tease fans with a glimpse of her “brand new recording contract” in her ‘In the Bag’ video for British Vogue.

Charli reveals that she has signed a two album deal, stating in the video “We’re in business!” Rumours subsequently began to circulate that she had signed with Dirty Hit, an independent label home to No Rome, Pale Waves and Charli’s boyfriend George Daniel’s band, The 1975.

Charli has previously worked with numerous artists signed with Dirty Hit, most recently teaming up with George Daniel to remix Caroline Polachek’s new single, ‘Welcome To My Island’, so it wasn’t surprising that fans thought she may have signed with Dirty Hit herself.

However, she quickly put these rumours to rest, replying to a fan on Twitter saying “i’m too expensive for them.”

Speaking to NME in October 2022, Charli revealed that she wasn’t sure about becoming an independent artist, saying, “I like not having to foot the bill for everything at the beginning, that’s quite scary. Especially when you want to do things on the kind of scale that I did on the last record. I’m still exploring, definitely.”

She concluded that, “there’s so many interesting options that would work for me.”

Charli’s latest album CRASH released in March 2022 debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming her first album to top the chart. CRASH also became her highest charting album in the US to date, debuting at No.7 on the Billboard 200.

Following this success, Charli expressed her confusion surrounding the lack of recognition for female artists at the Brits, tweeting “i only came to speak the truth hunny.’

i only came to speak the truth hunny: https://t.co/vJj5hYrPYS — Charli (@charli_xcx) February 12, 2023

Despite her lack of nomination for Best Artist, Charli was later seen wearing a very on-brand tongue in cheek outfit, with a slogan t-shirt reading ‘REAL WINNER.’

Fans are eagerly awaiting news on Charli’s plans for 2023, with hints at further collaborations and even a potential book being on the horizon.

The heavy-hitting posse known as Warmduscher have enlisted none other than Yard Act to create a remix of “Greasin Up Jesus”. The collaboration is in the name of their upcoming EP which features remixed versions of tracks from their latest album- At The Hotspot.

Yard Act aren’t the only talented so and so’s to be rejigging one of Warmduschers bops, the forthcoming remix EP will also use the gifts of Red Axes, Glok, and Joe Goddard of Hot Chip. Sharing their glee at the prospect of the new editions, Warmdsucher said; “There’s nothing better for the soul than taking what’s yours, giving it to your friends and letting them chew it up and spit it back out in your face. Something different, something weirder, something better, bolder, or even more beautiful! Ladies and gentlemen we’ve got friends in high places, and these friends have chewed us up perfectly. We hope you enjoy more of the same, only much more different, Warmduscher the remixes!!”

Yard Act added; “When we found out they felt the same things about us, it could only make total sense to stick our fingers in each other’s noises. ‘Greasin’ Up Jesus’ is a perfect come-down album ender to a rollercoaster party record, but behind those louche elevator synths and chintzy shuffling drums, we could hear that there was still a party going on underneath, and so we tried our best to dig it up and let it out with our remix. We had so much fun doing this. Long live Warmduscher.”

British rock titans Bring Me The Horizon have shared a new remix of their recent single “DiE4u”. The remix has been given the alternate title “DiE6u” and is the work of hyperpop music collective six impala. You can listen to the remix at the link below, and it is also available on all streaming services.

Sonically, six impala have completely re-invented the song, implementing frantic, distorted electronic percussion that buzzes around pitched-up, glitchy vocals; a hallmark of the genre that we have come to know as “hyperpop”. The remix comes three months after the release of the original song, which debuted on the 16th of September, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart this month. The original tune came with an accompanying music video, which can be viewed here.

The group responsible for the remix, six impala, are perhaps best described as a music collective than a band, as they operate through online collaboration. The core members of the group are Canadian electronic music producer KaTT, San Francisco based electronic musician underscores, Argentinian musician SCRIPT, Finnish musician HELVETICAN, and perhaps most interestingly NEUTRA, a vocal synthesiser voiced by an anonymous voice actor.

“DiE4u” provided fans a peek into the sound of the next instalment of the band’s ongoing POST HUMAN project, which is a series of E.Ps that started in 2020 with POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR. The E.P/mini-album is available on all streaming services.

Frontman Oli Sykes told NME in a recent interview: “The topic of the next record is going to be about how as I’m getting older, to ask what are the life lessons that I’ve learned? What can I give to the next generation or younger people looking up and listening to us? What is it that I can teach? What are the truths I need to learn and accept myself…As for the sound of it: “I come from a heavy background and rock music was my first obsession, but at the same time I’ve always loved pop music. How do we blend those two worlds completely and not just make pop-y rock music but make extreme pop music? That was the goal of this record.”

The release of the remix comes just after the announcement that Bring Me The Horizon will be headlining Reading & Leeds Festival in 2022, alongside the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Enter Shikari, Arctic Monkeys and Wolf Alice. You can read more about the Reading and Leeds line-up announcement here.

The famous baritone singer has worked with the Essex rockers on his new collaboration. Known for their second studio album Broken Machine, the group have lent their unique rock sound to Rag’nBone Man’s single. Consisting of members Conor Mason on lead vocals and guitar, Joe Langridge-Brown on backing vocals and guitar, Dominic Craik on guitar, keys and backing vocals, Philip Blake on bass and James Price on percussion the band have achieved critical and commercial acclaim since their formation in 2012.

The newly remixed single starts with the original release’s mellow melodic guitar licks but bring more of an electric appeal to the beginning verse. Accompanied by the artist’s classic strong vocals, the “Alone” remix also features the stirring backing vocals heard in the original. Much like the original single the remix firmly cements the song’s lyrical themes by a strong musical presence and is accompanied by a meaningful music video featuring overlapping black and white photos of the performers.

Born as Rory Charles Graham, Rag’n’Bone man had this to say concerning his new collaboration. Within his statement, the singer expresses his process with previous remixes and states how he knew he wanted to work with Nothing But Thieves. “Most singles I’ve released so far come with remixes and sometimes it’s a bit difficult to imagine what it’s going to be like – especially if it’s dance or drum and bass. With ‘Alone’, I felt like that wasn’t going to be possible and I had to think outside the box. I remember seeing Nothing But Thieves at some festivals previously and thinking how amazing they were – I love their sound. I think they’ve done a really interesting version of this song and it’s a real honour to have them on the track.”

The 36-year-old artist first achieved success with his single “Human”, the track was released on 21st July 2016 and was taken from his debut album entitled Human. The singer’s debut album was released on 10th February 2017 and sired the artist in both commercial and critical success. Debuting at number one within the UK album charts, the album would become the fasted selling debut album within the 2010s for a male artist. Graham received multiple accolades for his first studio album, including two Brit Awards in 2017 for Critics Choice Award and British Breakthrough Act.

Rag’n’bone’s original version of “Alone’ was released as the third single from the artist’s second studio album Life by Misadventure. Much like his debut studio album, Life by Misadventure debuted at number one within the UK Album Charts. The album also features the singer’s collaboration with American artist Pink, the track entitled “Anywhere Away from Here” was released as the album’s second single on 9th April 2021 via Sony Music. The track was released as a charity single alongside the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, profits made from the sale of the record were given to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and the encompassing NHS charities.

Olof Dreijer, one half of the Swedish electronic duo The Knife, has released a remixed track of Robyn’s collaborative track with Röyksopp, Monument. The song was released in 2014 from Robyn’s EP Do It Again which was released 4 years after the international Body Talk Pt. 1 was released by the same pair in 2010.

The original EP was met with mixed reviews from fans, but did receive very high critic praise when it was released. The success of the album was incomparable to the Body Talk series, however, Do It Again still went into the top 20 album charts in the UK and became the first number-one Dance/Electronic album that either Robyn or Röyksopp ever received.

The release of the remixed Monument was in celebration of The Knife’s 20th anniversary of the band on January 29th. The official release has come with a statement saying that “This is the first time Olof has worked with the duo, having previously worked with Robyn across projects on Konichiwa Records.” Indicating that the three Scandinavian artists have been working up to this collaboration.

When describing the sound of the new track, a press release stated that “for the rework, Olof brings his signature warm and percussive sound to the chart-topping single. The track is accompanied by a visualizer from Martin Falck who has previously collaborated with The Knife, Bjork, Fever Ray and Robyn.”

The Knife has also celebrated its 20th anniversary with releasing rare music previously unreleased tracks from the last two decades of their career. They also uploaded their music onto the streaming platform Bandcamp for more listeners to enjoy their music over the years.

Robyn’s latest album Honey was released in 2018 and received critical acclaim once again for the artist. Most recently she teamed up with Jonsi for the track Salt Licorice, a collaboration fans have been long awaiting. Monument is now available for streaming on all platforms and can be seen above.
