Their portfolio includes such artists as Kylie Minogue, Craig David, The Rolling Stones and many more. This deal comprises their share of the band’s revolutionary songwriting portfolio; John Lydon and original bassist Glen Matlock did not participate in this arrangement.

John Lydon has distanced himself from the Sex Pistols following reports of a deal, citing accusations that they were trying to profit off the death of Queen Elizabeth II. This statement was issued by Public Image Ltd on their Twitter feed on John Lyndons behalf.

The agreement with BMG includes key singles from the album Never mind The Bollocks including “Anarchy In The UK”, “God Save The Queen” and “Pretty Vacant”. Their 1977 single “God Save the Queen” was banned by the BBC in the UK and appeared at No. 2 on the Official Singles chart, leading to accusations that the song was purposely kept off the top spot. For the only time in chart history, the track was listed as a blank, to avoid offence to the establishment. Along with retailers such as Woolworths and WHSmith refusing to stock the single.

The company’s VP in music publishing, Michael Howe, added, “Steve, Paul, and Sid’s works with Sex Pistols are among the most important cultural and creative music of the last half-century. “Their impact on society and the performing arts is orders of magnitude greater than the group’s incredibly brief lifespan and recorded output would suggest. The band’s influence resonates as deeply today as it did in 1977.” During this interview Steve Jones added, “Where’s my money?!”

The Sex Pistols may have only had two years of active performance, yet the impact they had on music and culture is tremendous and everlasting. This point is exceptionally highlighted by their seminal 1977 debut record album Never Mind the Bollocks, which is indisputably considered one of the most exhilarating and influential albums in punk rock music history.

In a recent statement BMG said “Sex Pistols are among the most important and recognisable rock bands in history, and their legacy is felt across fashion, art and society.”

Charli has now made waves with her decision to part with Atlantic Records, whom she signed a five album deal with at just 16 years old. The details of her new record deal have not yet been revealed, but Charli did tease fans with a glimpse of her “brand new recording contract” in her ‘In the Bag’ video for British Vogue.

Charli reveals that she has signed a two album deal, stating in the video “We’re in business!” Rumours subsequently began to circulate that she had signed with Dirty Hit, an independent label home to No Rome, Pale Waves and Charli’s boyfriend George Daniel’s band, The 1975.

Charli has previously worked with numerous artists signed with Dirty Hit, most recently teaming up with George Daniel to remix Caroline Polachek’s new single, ‘Welcome To My Island’, so it wasn’t surprising that fans thought she may have signed with Dirty Hit herself.

However, she quickly put these rumours to rest, replying to a fan on Twitter saying “i’m too expensive for them.”

Speaking to NME in October 2022, Charli revealed that she wasn’t sure about becoming an independent artist, saying, “I like not having to foot the bill for everything at the beginning, that’s quite scary. Especially when you want to do things on the kind of scale that I did on the last record. I’m still exploring, definitely.”

She concluded that, “there’s so many interesting options that would work for me.”

Charli’s latest album CRASH released in March 2022 debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming her first album to top the chart. CRASH also became her highest charting album in the US to date, debuting at No.7 on the Billboard 200.

Following this success, Charli expressed her confusion surrounding the lack of recognition for female artists at the Brits, tweeting “i only came to speak the truth hunny.’

Despite her lack of nomination for Best Artist, Charli was later seen wearing a very on-brand tongue in cheek outfit, with a slogan t-shirt reading ‘REAL WINNER.’

Fans are eagerly awaiting news on Charli’s plans for 2023, with hints at further collaborations and even a potential book being on the horizon.

The company has represented the former Smiths guitarist as a songwriter for many years, publishing his last three solo albums: 2013’s ‘The Messenger’, 2014’s ‘Playland’ and 2018’s ‘Call The Comet’.

Marr stated that he was “very pleased to be working with the people at BMG on this new chapter. It’s a good feeling.”

Alistair Norbury, BMG President Repertoire & Marketing UK also added: “BMG have proudly represented Johnny Marr as a songwriter for many years, including publishing his three consecutive top 10 solo albums. The fact that he has decided to expand and deepen his relationship with BMG shows how well our holistic, artist-centric approach works. We are delighted to be the releasing partner for this outstanding new body of work.”

The Manchester guitarist and songwriter is currently working on new music in the studio, and is set to play a string of intimate tour dates in the UK in September.

Those gigs will serve as a warm-up for his support slot at the Courteeners’ sold-out show at Manchester’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground on September 25.

The musician actually hasn’t performed on stage since 2018 at the BRIT Awards when he joined Billie Eilish and Hans Zimmer for their performance of ‘No Time To Die’, the Bond theme for the latest 007 movie set for release in September.

Tomlinson confirmed his departure from Syco via Twitter back in July 2020, but had not yet shared details of his next steps.

 

Now we know where the Doncaster native has chosen to go, and we also know that he is in the middle of working on his second album with them. BMG VP A&R Jamie Nelson stated: “We are delighted to welcome Louis to BMG. He is already busy working on new music, and we are excited to join him on the next phase of his extraordinary career.” At this stage, both Louis and BMG are still very cryptic, but we can see that something new is in the works, and we can be on the lookout.  

This news is accompanied by other recent news that the 29-year-old songwriter has had to push back the dates of his world tour due to the pandemic, like many other artists. All of the confirmed dates are now in 2022, and while many of the previously purchased tickets are still valid for the postponed dates, some shows, such as The Wiltern in Los Angeles, will have to be refunded.
