The tour will see Razorlight perform across the UK, bringing their high-energy show to cities such as Liverpool, Birmingham, Bath, Nottingham, Glasgow, and Sheffield. Known for their energetic and unpredictable live performances, Razorlight will bring their signature intensity to venues across the UK, ensuring that audiences everywhere get to experience the excitement of their long-awaited comeback. 

Tickets for the tour are set to go on sale at 9 AM on February 14, and given Razorlight’s reputation for delivering electrifying live shows, demand is expected to be high. With the excitement surrounding their reunion and the release of ‘Planet Nowhere’, this tour will be a major event for both long-time fans and newer listeners who have discovered the band in recent years. 

Razorlight first made waves in the early 2000s with their debut album, ‘Up All Night’, released in 2004. The album featured standout tracks like ‘Golden Touch’ and ‘Somewhere Else’, earning them a reputation as one of the most exciting bands of the British indie rock revival. They reached even greater heights in 2006 with their self-titled second album, which debuted at number one in the UK and included their biggest hit, ‘America’. Over the years, the band went through multiple lineup changes and a period of inactivity before reuniting in 2018 and later returning with their latest album ‘Planet Nowhere’ in 2024, a project that marked a full-circle moment for the original members. 

The album, ‘Planet Nowhere’, explores themes of isolation, self-reflection, and societal change while maintaining their signature indie rock energy. Tracks like ‘Zombie Love’ embrace a stripped-down, evocative style, while ‘Taylor Swift = US Soft Propaganda’ adds a playful, satirical edge. ‘Empire Service’ takes a more narrative-driven approach, painting vivid imagery of a train journey along the Hudson River mixed with what seems to be internal thoughts of the travel, shown in the lyrics, “It is the ocean, No it’s not, Yes it is, What is the ocean?”. The album blends raw emotion with infectious melodies, marking a significant evolution for the band as they balance nostalgia with fresh, thought-provoking material. 

As Razorlight prepares to hit the road once again, their return signals a renewed presence in the indie rock scene. The tour not only celebrates their history but also showcases their evolution as a band, blending nostalgia with fresh material. Fans will have the opportunity to witness the original lineup back in action, delivering the sound and energy that made Razorlight one of the defining bands of their era.

Razorlight were one of many British bands that emerged out of the garage rock revival scene in the early to mid-2000s. Their 2004 debut album ‘Up All Night’ is currently certified as 4x Platinum, whilst their 2006 self-titled sophomore album is certified as 5x Platinum. The music that the group made during the noughties is undeniably iconic. Tracks like ‘America’, ‘In the Morning’, and ‘Golden Touch’ provided the soundtrack for a generation of British millennial’s teenage years.

After a 10-year hiatus, Johnny, Carl, Björn and Andy are back together in Razorlight.

When Razorlight returned in 2018 with their fourth album ‘Olympus Sleeping’, only Borrell remained from the original quartet. Reflecting on the group’s recent reunion in a statement, Burrows said, “It feels incredible. We’ve spent the past week or two rehearsing. Playing these songs has been an absolute joy.The emotions that were going through me when we started playing ‘America’, I forgot to play the first half of the song – it was totally nuts. It’s been amazing. It’s so powerful playing these old tunes. It’s very very special.”

He added, “I’m really enjoying reconnecting with Andy and Carl, it’s like getting to know people again. I’m enjoying it because you never want to lose friends. It’s a horrible thing to think. It doesn’t really make sense. It definitely feels good to me on a personal level. On a creative level – amazing. We’ve been in the studio rehearsing and recording. As soon as the four of us are in the room, it just sounds amazing, straight away.”

Although the indie rockers now have just over a month to re-establish their musical chemistry, it sounds like they will have no problem doing so. What this reunion means for the band long-term? We do not know. However, judging by Burrow’s statement, the four artists are “recording” as well as “rehearsing”, suggesting that perhaps new material is on the way. Whilst we will probably not hear any new material as soon as June, 2021 could perhaps stage the start of another one of Razorlight’s renaissances.

Olympus Sleeping – out October 26th

In an interview with NME, Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell spoke at length about the new album. Pitched as a “love letter to roll and roll”, Olympus Sleeping sees the band collaborating with David Ellis and Martin Chambers of The Pretenders, who make respective appearances on guitar and drums.  Set to have “the electric energy of their first album, the pop-rock craftsmanship of the second and the lyrical ambition of the third”, the new LP breaks the ten years of silence left after their previous album, 2008’s Slipway Fires.

“I didn’t do Razorlight for a long time because I was off doing other music”, Borrell said, explaining the extended hiatus. “The successful band model means people give you pressure to release an album every album every 18 months – whether you’ve got something to say or not… Every time I’ve ever done an album, it’s because I thought that’s the best music that I can make at that point in time. That music wants to be made. With Razorlight, that wasn’t happening and I wasn’t inspired for a while.”

Ahead of the new release, Razorlight have shared three new tracks from the upcoming album, on top of July’s lead single, ‘Olympus Sleeping‘: ‘Japanrock’, ‘Sorry?’ and ‘Got To Let The Good Times Back Into Your Life’. Powered by stabbing, punky guitars, excitable drumming and hearty, affected vocals, the new tracks hark back to their classic noughties-indie sound.

In support of the album, Razorlight have announced a series of UK dates for later this year. Tickets will go on sale from 10am this Friday here. They are also making appearances at Cool Britannia this weekend in London and at Pub In The Park in Kenbsworth this September. See their itinerary below:
