Mancunian art rockers Everything Everything have released a live music video for their new single “Pizza Boy”, which is the last single from the band’s forthcoming album Raw Data Feel, which is set for release on the 20th of this month. The record will be released via Everything Everything’s own label Infinity Industries. The album can be pre-ordered here, and you can view the music video down below.

The hypnotic tune, led by a playful bassline and a delightful vocal melody from singer Jonathan Higgs, sees the band exploring familiar but welcome territory, with swirling synths, mesmerising drum beats and falsetto vocals. Speaking on the subject matter of the tune, the band said, according to a press statement: “The song is about recovering from trauma, by focussing on both hedonism and solitude.”

“Pizza Boy” is the fourth single from the group’s upcoming album, having been preceded by “I Want a Love Like This”, “Bad Friday” and “Teletype”. The album’s lead single “Bad Friday” was released in early February, and came alongside the news that the band had used A.I. to help write their new album; a unique approach that explains the record’s title. According to NME, the group came up with a programme that used “the entire terms and conditions of LinkedIn, the ancient epic poem Beowulf, 400,000 4Chan forum posts and the teachings of Confucius”. Certainly embracing the “experimental” angle in as many ways as possible.

Everything Everything’s previous single was released back in March, and is a feverish, musical wind tunnel of ambient pads and plucked synthesiser leads, with an equally trippy, stylised music video. The group said of the tune: “This song started as a challenge Alex set Jon to demo a ‘4-chord banger’ that he could put through a particular rhythmic processor on his home-made modular synthesiser. It’s another very instinctive and impulsive composition, talking about a new relationship and a feel of optimism and possibility.” You can view the video for “I Want a Love Like This” below.

After releasing their 5th studio album Re-Animator to a pretty solid commercial and critical response in 2020, Mancunian art-rock outfit Everything Everything have continued to ride the wave of consistently top-quality music since their debut in 2010. Their consistency as songwriters constantly pushing their own boundaries has, in my opinion, led to some of the best art-rock of the 2010’s. Now the group are gearing up to release their 6th LP Raw Data Feel on May 20th, you can check out any pre-order details here. To mark the occasion, the group have shared with us our first impression of the album with a relatively gloomy, almost stripped back take on an Everything Everything track; ‘Bad Friday’. Watch the A.I. influenced video below.

In an interview with NME, frontman Johnathan Higgs explained, “This song is about being a victim of violence, explaining it away through the gauze of a ‘crazy night out.’” Adding, “We wanted the video to have a monochrome Ink Spots classicism to it, disrupted by elements of A.I.-generated imagery. This reflects the approach to writing and producing the song – the minimalistic combined with the surreal and disorientating.” According to a statement released by the band, they have added an element of A.I. to their music writing, apparently taking “the entire terms and conditions of LinkedIn, the ancient epic poem Beowulf, 400,000 4Chan forum posts and the teachings of Confucius,” to add a bit of a digital edge to the project. The lyrics, artwork, and aesthetics have also received the A.I. treatment.

This is probably the reasoning behind the release of their new limited-edition lyric book being called “CAPS LOCK ON: Lyrics + Debris 2007-2022”. Really rolling with the current theme. Described by the band as “a full-colour, hardback edition presenting the lyrics to all songs released by the band including b-sides, rarities and new album Raw Data Feel” as well as a “treasure trove of previously unseen images featured alongside the lyrics, including behind-the-scenes archive material of notebooks, chord sheets, set lists and photos.”
