Foals have been named ‘Best Act In The World Today’ at Q Magazine’s annual Q Awards which was being held at the Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane this evening.

The Oxford indie/math rock quintet have just released their latest album ‘What Went Down’ and have become a fully fledged arena band in recent years, with Reading and Leeds Festival organiser Melvin Benn recently touting the band as a future headliner of the long running festival.

They have now beaten off the likes of Noel Gallagher, Ed Sheeran and Blur to win ‘Best Act’ at the Q Award. Previous winners have included Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay.

Foals frontman Yannis Philippikas shared this photo on his Instagram:

Noel Gallagher won ‘Best Album’ for his Flying Bird’s ‘Chasing Yesterday’, beating Blur to the award, proof the Bitpop Wars of the 90s has never really ended.

Ed Sheeran, another newly anointed stadium act, took away ‘Best Solo Act’ for the second year running. He fended off Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith for the award but fell short to the towering live act of Royal Blood in the ‘Best Live Act’ category.

The Libertines’ ‘Gunga din’ has won ‘Best Track’. The song had heralded their return to music as their first single in 11 years. Meanwhile Florence + The Machine won ‘Best Video’ for alter ego wrestling ‘Ship To Wreck’ video.
