Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, President Bob Valentine spoke on Concord’s plans with their newly acquired rights. He states how they plan to distribute the music through avenues that capture the younger generation’s attention. Valentine continues, “In the world we live in today with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, all these things that drive consumption of older music… there are definitely ways for us as a record company to bring some of this music back to life,”

Included within the deal are a collection of Genesis’ biggest tracks; music included in the agreement are “Follow You, Follow Me“, “Land Of Confusion“, “Invisible Touch“, “In Too Deep“, and “That’s All“. Those affected by the new deal are Genesis’s current bandmembers, Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks; incorporated within the agreement is music recorded by the band Genesis and work from the musicians’ solo careers.

Music from Collins’ highly successful solo career is also part of the deal, the deal incorporates such hits as “Against All Odds“, “You’ll Be In My Heart“, and the beloved song “In the Air Tonight“. Many of Collins’ hits include covers of previously released songs; the deal with Concorde includes covers like the drummer’s version of The Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love” and the 1988 release of Diane & Annita’s “A Groovy Kind Of Love“.

Also included within the new acquisition is music from Rutherford’s music created with Mike And The Mechanics. The co-founder of Genesis formed Mike And The Mechanics in 1985 as a side project whilst on break from Genesis, the band’s biggest hits include “The Living Years” and “Over My Shoulder“. Those who the deal will not affect include former Genesis band members, most notably Peter Gabriel. Concorde has not acquired the rights to his music; this includes his work created as a solo artist and music created by Gabriel during his time in Genesis.

Based in California, Concord is a global music company that specialises within the music industry’s publishing and recording arm. The company itself had been running since its official formation in 2004; its predecessor was Concord Records which was formed in 1973 and found its origins within the Jazz music genre. The long-standing company distributes worldwide through conglobate Universal Music Group, a partnership which has proved profitable. Concord Music Group Inc is also known for its roster of record labels; those associated with the company include Fearless Records, Rounder Records, Sugar Hill Records, Stax Records, Fantasy Records, Kidz Bop and Victory Records.

The band took to their social media to announce the news saying; “Very excited to announce that we’ve just signed a deal with Sub Pop Publishing. We’re over the moon that our album is getting recognition we couldn’t have even dreamed of when we decided to self release during a pandemic but we’re really feeling the love. Thank you!”

This comes following the band’s debut US television performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Band members Sarah Corcoran and Pamela Connolly joined James Corden remotely for an interview. The four-piece band then performed Liffey from their new album In Waiting.

In the interview, where James Corden referred to them as “an outrageously talented rock band” the band was asked about the pressure of releasing an album during a pandemic, Sarah replied saying; “It’s a strange time to release an album, but we released it ourselves, did all the mail orders ourselves, so it was a really exciting time, and all the feedback has been really positive. Hopefully, when we can get back out and gigging, it’ll have been worth the wait.”

In Waiting was released in September 2020 and tells the story of unity, community and inclusivity, showcasing a modern Ireland that is moving away from the power the Catholic Church held over the country for so long. The album includes the stunning singles HowDoILook, Brothers, Handsome Week, Holy show and Gay Girls, which was featured on the soundtrack for the film Dating Amber. The song also received a nomination for the RTE Choice Music Prize song of the year, as well as international airplay on NPR’s World Cafe & KEXP.

The song has made a massive global impact, having entered the US hot 100 earlier this month and number 20 on Billboard’s global 200 chart. It has also charted high in other countries such as Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Croatia and Australia.

MusicWeek has reported Sony/ATV UK president and co-MD David Ventura to of said, “I remember our first meeting when they played us some incredible songs, and it was evident that they have the absolute ‘full set’ as writers, topliners, producers and singers. Collaborations and opportunities for them are limitless and they have incredible music coming as both artists and songwriters. We couldn’t be happier and there is a true feeling of euphoria to welcome them at Sony/ATV!”

Newley appointed head of A&R for Sony/ATV UK commented on the duo in an interview with MusicWeek, “Dan and Johnny have an endless supply of creative energy and their hard work and versatility has deservedly paid off with Head & Heart. This is just the beginning and I am excited we are a part of their next chapter and beyond.”

Courtidis, from Melbourne Australia, had his first hit with the single with ‘Can’t Get Better Than This.’ The song made Number 1 in nine countries, with more than 50 million streams which earnt him platinum sales. Dan Dare from London has also had success as a song writer, having collaborated with artists such as Charlie XCX, Marina & The Diamonds and Giggs amongst others.

The duo have recently released their much anticipated debut single ‘Torn,’ in the UK under the major label Atlantic Records. They spoke to Variance Magazine about the making of the video saying, “We wanted the music video to feel really British, inspired by the movies ‘Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. We shot the video the week when everyone was able to come out of lockdown and so we got together a load of our friends to take part. The story plays on the idea of love lost and being ‘Torn’ between two different lives. We hope our fans will enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed shooting it.”

The powerhouse team have recently collaborated with artists such as Sigala, MNEK and Raye. There is no doubt that following the success of their latest hit, many more will be cueing up to work with them. They said to Music Week on their signing to Sony/ATV, “We are beyond excited to begin this new chapter with David, Daniel, Sarah and the entire team at Sony/ATV. They are the kind of music publisher every songwriter would be proud to have in their corner and we can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.”
