London’s iconic The 100 Club was forced to postpone all planned December gigs with the capital moving into Tier 3 from Wednesday 16 December. The announcement came yesterday after Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed that London should tighten all safety measures to respond to the rapid rise of positive COVID-19 cases following the end of the second nation-wide lockdown from November. Taking it to social media, the renowned central London venue used the opportunity to thank everyone that has supported the club recently, and issued the following statement:

“Our thanks goes to everyone who has bought tickets, supporting the 100 Club and it’s staff. The few shows we have been able to put on in December have been a rare ray of relief for us all. For existing ticket holders, you will be notified when re-scheduled dates are confirmed. If you would like to be refunded, please contact your ticket provider.” (WeGotTickets)

Following the updated Government guidelines, Tier 3 stands for Very High Alert and specifies that “hospitality settings, such as bars (including shisha bars), pubs, cafes, restaurants, and social clubs must close except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services“. For venues like The 100 Club, this means immediate cancelation of all festive events planned for the foreseeable future. Many local pubs and small entertainment venues tried to return to their planned calendar runs after London resumed its normal life at the beginning of December, but saw those plans put into hold after positive testing peaked yet again in the capital and Wednesday marked the return to another period of tighter measures.

For December, The 100 Club had a busy month planned ahead, trying to end 2020 on a high note. The cancelled events are R&B band Moa Moa (16 & 18 Dec), singer-songwriter Billy Locket (17 Dec), and the ‘Absolute Bowie’ tribute show (19 Dec), with all rescheduled dates to be confirmed. The tribute to the punk veterans The Cramps and gothic legends Bauhaus by Teenage Warewolves, She’s In Bauhaus and Kitten Deville has been moved to 13 June 2021. Moreover, the upcoming gig by Chantel McGregor and Erja Lyytinen has been moved all the way to 4 February 2022.

In order to adapt to the changing times, The 100 Club opened as a regular bar for the first time last Monday 14 December. For just £2 visitors were able to book a table and enjoy a drink without the need of a substantial meal and enjoying music by Dj Never Heard Of Ya. The miracle did not last long with the club now forced to close in light of Tier 3 guidelines. However, next month The 100 Club are set to pilot a brand new Pathogen Reduction System supported by the Musc Venue Trust. The invention is set to clear 99% of the infectious airbourne pathogens, including coronavirus.

Despite having to shut for the foreseeable as London is now placed in Tier 3, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be trialling the Pathogen Reduction System (PRS) next month in addition to a new “Test Clean Prevent” (TCP) system along with @musicvenuetrust. pic.twitter.com/jqy8RJVETl — The 100 Club (@100clubLondon) December 16, 2020

Located at 100 Oxford Street at the very heart of London, the iconic music venue was opened in 1942 and has been operating as the beating heart of the capital’s punk rock scene ever since. The club used to offer its stage to the likes of the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, The Stranglers and The Damned, and has remained a bastion of quality live music with more recent memorable performances by Alice Cooper, Shame, The Specials, Idles and Sleaford Mods.

The 100 Club is set to return to scheduled live events on 8th and 9th February 2021 with their Resolution 2021 punk festival events featuring The Vibrators and TV Smith.

American artist Beck has been forced to cancel his UK and European tour which was due to take place throughout June and July 2020, with shows in Paris, Rome, and London. The reason for this is, of course, the Covid-19 pandemic which has called off shows around the world over the past few months. While many were hoping that, by this time, restrictions might have lifted somewhat, most fans are not surprised by the news.

The dates may not be going ahead, but ticket-holders can be assured that they will see Beck perform live in the near future as the dates are currently being rescheduled for later this year, or perhaps even next year.

Due to continued restrictions on public gatherings, and in the interest of public safety, the below Beck shows will not be happening as scheduled.

We’re working to reschedule as many of these shows as soon as it is safe to do so and will keep you updated along the way. (1/3) pic.twitter.com/eINLDo2SeM

— Beck (@beck) May 20, 2020

His team shared the announcement on Twitter, saying “Due to continued restrictions on public gatherings, and in the interest of public safety, the below Beck shows will not be happening as scheduled.” The thread continued, finding a further statement, “Beck is very sorry about this situation and is looking forward to getting back on stage as soon as possible.” Ticket-holders can obtain more information or a refund from their point of purchase, but most will hopefully hold on to them until the dates are rescheduled.

Beck’s tour is in promotion of his 2019 album ‘Hyperspace’, an 11-track project including singles ‘Saw Lightning’ and ‘Uneventful Days’, the former gaining over 8 million streams. This was his fourteenth studio album release, seeing collaboration with Pharrell Williams and receiving a great reception from both critics and fans.

As a singer, songwriter, musician and producer, Beck has had a very versatile career, sharing his debut studio album ‘Mellow Gold’ in 1994. He has worked in each of these fields with artists such as Sia, Childish Gambino, and Cage the Elephant. Prior to ‘Hyperspace’, his latest work was ‘Colours’, released in 2017; Beck’s alternative musical style continues to evolve with each release.

The new album “One World” will be the first original studio album from Billy Ocean in more than 10 years. Initially, the album was planned for April 17, but due to the pandemic, the release date was rescheduled for September 4. The new material will feature twelve new tracks co-written by the artist and producer Barry Eastmond. This will be Billy Ocean’s eleventh studio album. The title track of the album was released January this year.

As seen in his official website, Ocean made the following announcement for his upcoming album:
“One World’ is my first original studio album in over 10 years. It’s like a landmark for my 70th birthday! I feel this album reflects my maturity, and the many genres of music I’ve been exposed to – coming from the Caribbean as a little boy influenced by calypso music, to growing up in the East End of London, where music was so wonderfully diverse. I truly feel ‘One World’ has captured all of my musical influences over the years. The album reflects my thoughts, and the way that I feel at 70 years old, but most of all I hope that it will make people stop and think about life and its meaning.”

On April 17 Billy Ocean released a second single called “All Over The World”.

In a recent Instagram update, fans were informed that the Bath Festival, where Billy will perform tracks from his new album, has been postponed for May 29th and 30th, 2021.

The album is available for pre-order purchase from the official website of the band and Amazon. The single to the album, “Flowers On A Grave” was released on March 18. The previous release of the band was the song “Bullet Holes” on May 17, 2019. It was featured in the Keanu Reeves-starring action movie “John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum”. The piece was co-written by film composer Tyler Bates, who has previously worked with Marilyn Manson. According to an interview for iRock Radio, Rossdale shared that the song wasn’t written with the intention of being included in the film. Recently, Bush’s frontman shared with fans the playlist that keeps him entertained under the lockdown with the statement “Music is infinite and so is our ability to find the best part of ourselves”.
