The model said: “David Bowie was a very special person. Someone who was much more than a friend – he was an enigma. So, when the chance came to dive into this extraordinary five-year chapter of Bowie’s life for 6 Music and BBC Sounds, hearing from those who joined him on his creative journey and those he continues to inspire, I was excited to help share the story of such an incredible transformation. This podcast is a real celebration of my friend, a true British icon.”

Each episode will focus on Bowie and the many things that made him the artist he was such as his early performances with The Hype, his love for art and especially Andy Warhol and the legacy he left behind with iconic character Ziggy Stardust.

The podcast is partnering with The V&A museum which is launching their David Bowie Centre at their East Storehouse location in London which is “is a new working archive for the world’s largest collection dedicated to Bowie’s life and works, with free rotating displays of highlights from the collection” according to a press release.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the station, so honestly… I’m so excited, I’m speechless. Which should work out great for radio!”

The Bowie podcast, hosted by Kate Moss, will be available on BBC Sounds from 6am on Wednesday September 10 and broadcasted on Monday September 22 and will feature some unheard archived performances and interviews, including an exclusive interview from 2001 with podcast creator Des Shaw, as well as some recently unearthed audio from the BBC Archive.

Brighton based Metalcore band, Architects, has recently been embroiled in controversy since one of the band’s guitarists, Adam Christianson, retweeted a homophobic and transphobic post from online commentator Tim Pool. For those unaware, Tim Pool is a far-right online commentator who began his career through coverage of the 2011 Occupy Wall Street protests.

Since 2011, Pool has taken a significant shift right, choosing to focus his work on American culture-war issues like LGBTQ rights. Tim Pool hosts a daily podcast on YouTube and is well known online for his inflammatory and discriminatory comments surrounding the LGBTQ community. One of Pool’s largest talking points surrounds a conspiracy theory that suggests that LGBTQ community deliberately recruits children into their movement for political purposes. This conspiracy also implies that there is a sexual element to this recruitment process. In the wake of a 2022 shooting at Club Q, an LGBTQ club in Colorado, Pool attempted to justify the attack by saying “Club Q had a grooming event”.

As reported by Loudwire, the post shared by Christianson was a quote tweet by Pool regarding an interview with mixed martial arts fighter, Sean Strickland. When asked whether he would accept having a gay son, Strickland returned the question to his interviewer who said that he would have “no problem with it”. In response to his interviewer, Strickland said: “You’re a weak f*****g man”. The fighter then went on to say that: “ten years ago, to be trans was a mental f****n’ illness and now all of a sudden, people like you have f****n’ weaselled your way into the world… you [Strickland’s interviewer] are an infection”. On January 17th, Tim Pool replied to Strickland’s interview, saying “F*****g A+ guy right here”. Evoking far-right sentiments of social disease with regards to LGBTQ people, both Pool’s and Strickland’s comments are intensely derogatory.

HOLY FUCK Fucking A+ guy right here Thanks bud light for bringing us this message on the infection that is the woke left https://t.co/G17Drog39b — Tim Pool (@Timcast) January 17, 2024

This thread was reposted by Architects’ Adam Christianson for a brief period, before being promptly removed. On January 19th, Christianson apologised for his actions, saying: “that retweet was a total accident!”. However, some online are sceptical of Christianson’s backpedalling, citing his history of reposting and liking tweets that share similar sentiments to those of Pool. Christianson has previously liked and retweeted content from other commentators like Zuby Music who has previously evoked conspiracies reminiscent of those pedalled by the likes of Tim Pool.

Speaking at a gig in Paris yesterday the band’s frontman, Sam Carter, said: “nobody on this stage judges anybody for their gender, their race, and whoever they are in love with. We never have, we never will”. Although the video does not explicitly mention Christianson’s online activity, many online have drawn a connection between the two events.

Ozzy Osbourne, the esteemed heavy mental icon, has expressed his intention to record a final album in 2024 before embarking on another tour. The year 2023 has presented numerous challenges for the renowned frontman of Black Sabbath. In February, he was compelled to cancel his highly anticipated No More Tours 2 tour and subsequently announced his retirement from touring altogether.

During an episode of The Osbournes podcast, Ozzy openly shared the details of his pending surgery, following the significant distress he has faced in recent years, due to his accident. Ozzy said, “It is going to be the final surgery because I can’t do it any more.”

However, in a recent interview with Metal Hammer, the musician provided a positive update on his health following his “final surgery” in September. Ozzy said “I have now undergone all the necessary surgeries, for which I am grateful,” he affirmed. “I am feeling alright – the recovery process has been prolonged. I had anticipated being back on my feet months ago, but adjusting to this lifestyle of constantly dealing with health issues has been challenging. While I am still unable to walk properly, I am no longer experiencing any pain, and the surgery on my spine was a success.”

Speaking further with Metal Hammer Ozzy revealed, “I’ve done two albums fairly recently, but I want to do one more album and then go back on the road. I’m just starting to work on it now, and we’ll be recording in the early part of next year.” he added. “I want to take my time with this one!”

Ozzy, who collaborated with Andrew Watt on both the critically acclaimed album Ordinary Man in 2020 and the previous year’s Patient Number 9 Ozzy hopes to actively seek to engage Watt’s once again to embark on the creation of fresh musical melody, at his own personal studio within his residence in the United Kingdom.

In January 2020, Osbourne publicly disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis, which he had previously kept concealed for more than 15 years. He claimed his motivation for sharing this deeply personal information was because “I feel better now I’ve owned up to them.”

In a recent Osbourne family podcast he told Jack, “I never think about it, I never go, I don’t go, oh I’ve got Parkinson’s because it’s so mild, it’s ridiculous. If I don’t take the medication, I tremor a little bit in the morning. As long as I take the medication I’m fine.

In a recent interview with Rollingstone, Kelly Osbourne said “It’s not like a TV show, we can say do whatever we want.”

Dua Lipa and Stormzy have been announced as celebrity guests at Hay Festival 2023.

The Hay Festival of Literature and Arts is an annual literature festival held in Wales. Described by Bill Clinton as “The Woodstock of the mind,” the festival allows its guests to “engage with the world’s great writers, poets, philosophers, scientists, comedians and musicians.”

Held in Haye-on-Wye, Powys, Wales, the festival is set to run from 25th May to 4th June this year.

Dua Lipa will be hosting a live recording of her podcast “At Your Service” at the festival, with this being one of the 30 early bird exclusive events this year.

In a press release announcing her attendance, Lipa said, “I have wanted to explore the bookshops of Hay and experience the literary atmosphere of the Hay Festival for such a long time. So I’m thrilled that I will be there next year to share stories on stage and off with some of my favourite authors, and to soak up the inspiration alongside my fellow book lovers. I can’t wait to see you there!”

Lipa’s podcast has just wrapped its second season and has received critical acclaim since its inception in 2022. Lipa assumes the role of interviewer in the podcast, attracting some of the biggest names of the moment including Elton John, Greta Gerwig and Mo Farah.

Stormzy, meanwhile, will be attending the festival as the figurehead for his publishing imprint #Merky Books. Founded in 2018, this imprint of Penguin Random House UK was developed to help give a platform to young writers.

Before deleting his social media accounts, Stormzy took to Instagram to say, “I know too many talented writers that don’t always have an outlet or a means to get their work seen and hopefully #Merky Books can now be a reference point for them to say ‘I can be an author’ and for that to be a realistic and achievable goal.”

Speaking on his upcoming appearance at Hay Festival, Stormzy said, “It all started with books for me. As a kid in school, I fell in love with literature and it sparked a life-long journey with words and writing, which led into my career as a songwriter and a musician.”

He continued, “I’m really excited to pass on this passion at Hay Festival, celebrate our incredible #Merky Books writers, and inspire the next generation of storytellers. Can’t wait to see you guys there!”

Dua Lipa and Stormzy’s appearances are but a few of the exciting and innovative events taking place throughout the festival. The full programme can be found here.

The latest episode in the ’12 Questions’ series explores Kano’s move into acting from music in his role as Sully on Top boy and how his lived experience influenced the role; he said: “I didn’t approach acting like, i say an actor i don’t know how every actor would approach it … I approached it like an artist and I think art is more about asking questions and beginning that process. So when I looked at those scripts, it wasn’t just like learn those lines; it was like, why are those the lines? From my experience, this could maybe happen, or this could maybe be the response to that line, and it was always very conversational with me.”

The episode starts with Smith asking the lyrical legends what they think of the concept of ‘fear or faith,’ the iconic MC says: “Sometimes I fear that I don’t have faith, you know if I’m interpreting faith as faith In a higher power or faith in god and thinking about life after us and afterlife, I kinda sometimes think because I’m not a religious person, I’m moving through life without being faithful to a religion it doesn’t mean I don’t have faith… I have faith in other things. I have faith in people, I have faith in the younger generation, we have to have faith.”

Armitage adds how he has “always been a big fan of the phrase a leap of faith.” Going on to explore what taking chances mean to him, he said: “I think that’s how we grow and how we writer, by taking chances. I’ve always approached my life as a write by accepting projects, agreeing to them on the phone, putting the phone down and then thinking, I can’t do that; I have no idea how to do that.” The Poet Laureate later jokes about how the answer to everything should be “one thousand pounds,” as he discusses his future plans and dives into some of life’s most pressing questions with Fraser T Smith.

The ’12 Questions’ series, hosted by musician, songwriter and produce Fraser T Smith, answers the twelve questions posed on his 2020 album with the same name. The album features the likes of Idris Elba, Kojey Radical, Dave, Bastille, Stormzy, Ghetts and Kano. Smith said on the album, “Creatively, it’s a colourful musical playground – the culmination of everything I’ve learned over my career, from 70’s progressive rock to hip hop. Culturally, it’s a celebration of humanity, whilst shining a light on some of the cruel injustices in the world.”

In the interview with UK rapper Aitch, Blossoms ask about his personal music taste; he said: “I’m all over to be honest, obviously rap probably goes without saying …there was a certain period where I was 50 cents biggest fan, a 50 cent thing, my life revolved around 50 cent yeah. And then I got a bit older and I went through a like Wiz Khalifa stage, you know about Wiz Khalifa, obviously? And there’s been like stages in between that… it’s always been a rap thing, I’ve always liked rap, I’ve always had my favourite rapper and whatever, but then my dad’s always been running with Stone Roses, Oasis, I used to listen to a band called Razor Light.” He continues: “It’s like the proper use of instruments isn’t always there with the rap thing. Recently, when I’ve been working on stuff and that, we’ve been trying to do like a little bit.”

When the Stockport band asked Aitch about where he’s from, he touched on how he grew up in Moston and his fondness for the band’s hometown, he said: “Stockports got a little place in my heart for mad reasons.. you know obviously about pie radio? It’s more like a rap kind of vibe, but it’s like a community thing. So basically, I used to go to Stockport… and do like radio sets, grime sets and spit bars, you know what I’m saying? Just do my thing.”

‘Pubcast’ is released weekly by the Manchester band and is set at their namesake, The Blossom Pub. In a statement accompanying their podcast series, Blossoms wrote: “Welcome to the award-winning* Blossoms Pubcast, recorded live with band members Tom, Charlie, Josh, Joe and Myles from The Blossoms pub on the A6 in Stockport. Each week, the lads greet you into their local for a swift half, top laugh and all kinds of rum malarkey. There’s tall tales, sound advice, crank calls, and the ‘Sixth Blossom’ – Charlie’s Granddad John. It’s a bit like Cheers… but set in Shaw Heath rather than Boston. Enjoy! *100% school attendance record, 2005.” The reference to school attendance is an ode to how band members Tom and Joe met. They became friends on a school trip to Alton Towers that they bagged by having a 100% attendance for that school year.

Other artists featured on the playlist include; Tayla Parx, Ivy Sol, Lady Bri and friend of the Obama family, Beyoncé. The playlist is a perfect mix of R&B, hip hop and neo-soul, which would appeal to all types of listeners. This is not the former first lady’s first playlist, in January, Michelle shared her workout playlist that included big artists like Lizzo, Ariana Grande and Childish Gambino.

The Michelle Obama Podcast is the first podcast to come out of the deal the Obama’s signed with Spotify last year that would ensure the family’s production company Higher Ground Productions would make podcasts exclusively on the streaming platform. Michelle has already had huge guests on her podcast including US journalist Michele Norris and former, and husband President Barack Obama. The aim of the podcast is to explore personal relationships and how they shape you as a person.

I wanted to start this season off by discussing a relationship that a lot of us are spending a lot of time thinking about right now and that’s our relationship with our community and our country. Given everything that’s going on in the world, I think that these days, a lot of people are questioning just where and how they can fit into a community. And how you answer those questions is unique to you, your experiences, and your communities––but the important thing is that you do go through the process of reflecting and reaching out to loved ones to talk through what you’re feeling and what you’re hoping for. Because once you do those things, I think you’ll have a better sense of your community, your country, and yourselves. And if enough of us can do that—and if enough of us can empathize with one another—then over time––and it will take a long time, we can come up with some solutions and create the change we’re all hoping for.
On a recent episode with Michele Norris, Michelle Obama revealed she is suffering from “low-grade depression” because of the pandemic, racial injustice and the “hypocrisy” of the Trump administration. She later took to Instagram to assure her audience that she is okay and they shouldn’t worry about her, saying; “I’m thinking about the folks out there risking themselves for the rest of us—the doctors and nurses and essential workers of all kinds. I’m thinking about the teachers and students and parents who are just trying to figure out school for the fall. I’m thinking about the people out there protesting and organizing for a little more justice in our country.”

First things first—I’m doing just fine. There’s no reason to worry about me. Like I said in that conversation with @Michele__Norris, I’m thinking about the folks out there risking themselves for the rest of us—the doctors and nurses and essential workers of all kinds. I’m thinking about the teachers and students and parents who are just trying to figure out school for the fall. I’m thinking about the people out there protesting and organizing for a little more justice in our country. The idea that what this country is going through shouldn’t have any effect on us—that we all should just feel OK all the time—that just doesn’t feel real to me. So I hope you all are allowing yourselves to feel whatever it is you’re feeling. I hope you’re listening to yourselves and taking a moment to reflect on everything that’s coming at us, and what you might be able to do about it. And to all of you who’ve reached out—thank you. I hope you’re also reaching out to all those you’re closest with, not just with a text, but maybe with a call or a videochat. Don’t be afraid to offer them a shoulder to lean on, or to ask for one yourself. Love you all. : Adam Garber @garbr
