Lead singer of You Me At Six said in a press release about the event: “Looking forward to returning to Slam Dunk this year to headline the festival. Slam Dunk has given You Me At Six so much over our career & we’ve got a lot of special memories from performing there over the years. The line-up is stacked with great artists, so will be an elite one.”

Fans of You Me At Six, who released their eighth studio album earlier this year titled Truth Decay, shared their excitement over the news on X. One person said: “Already my favorite slam dunk”, whilst another person commented: “favorite band headlining my favorite festival.” The group first performed at the festival in 2007 alongside Paramore, Reel Big Fish and Mad Caddies.

Since 2006, the Slam Dunk Festival has celebrated rock and punk artists from all over the world. This year, the festival treated the audience to performances by legendary punk group The Offspring, British band Enter Shikari and Billy Talent. However, the festival received criticism over issues of health and safety concerns – including overflowing toilets.

In a report, Slam Dunk Festival organizers said: “Thank you for giving us the time to fully investigate the events of the Slam Dunk Festival 2023.  We have taken that time to work with our internal team and many external partners, firstly to work out why things went wrong and then find solutions and improvements for next year. Please let us be clear that we are not trying to pass the blame of anything to other people, we are simply telling the truth about what caused those issues, so you can be assured we have identified the problem and therefore are able to fix it.”

“We would like to stress that we take full accountability for everything that happened on the day, and we are so sorry that some people didn’t have the experience that they should have. We hope you give us the chance to change that.”

Organizers of the event have promised a change for next year’s show, including 25% extra toilets and additional taps at all waterpoints.

Lindberg began writing his new release over 15 years ago, coming up with the chorus at the time but leaving the song unfished until 2020 when he returned to the studio to complete his solo record.

“I wanted to create two fictional characters who are struggling with shame, guilt and self-delusion to match the chorus lyric and so that’s how ‘Left-Handed Sal’ and ‘Walleyed Sally’ were created,”  Lindberg said about his new single, continuing by saying “It’s a song about two people who for one reason or another can’t seem to get out of their own way and end up inflicting all kinds of damage on the people around them. The only way they’ll get out from under all their problems is to ‘Let that ego drop’ and let their feelings show. The answer is right there in front of them, in ‘the palm of your hand’”

“The palm of your hand” is the first glimpse of Lindbergs upcoming solo project and is a track produced by Ted Hutt. It features David Hidalgo Jr. on drums, Joe Gittlemanon bass, and Marc Orrell on guitar.

The punk rock singer has been making music since the 1990s alongside his band Pennywise, with his musical influence coming from an array of genres from punk and folk music to old school country and Americana.

Lindbergs has been creating music for over 30 years, this longevity has led him to find inspiration anywhere from transcendental philosophers to real-life events.

Speaking to Kerrang about the announcement, Sum 41 frontman, Deryck Whibley, said: “Slam Dunk is a festival we’ve been wanting to do for a long time, and until now we’ve never been able to pull it off.

Scheduling and all that stuff has meant we’ve not been able to play in previous years, which has been frustrating. To finally be appearing at Slam Dunk is a great feeling – it’s been a long time coming. It’s something we’ve always wanted to do, and it’s a festival I’ve continually heard great things about. Sum 41 playing Slam Dunk just makes sense to me.”

The Canadian pop-punk rockers will be joined on the bill by the likes of The Used, Billy Talent, The Story So Far, Basement, Your Demise, We Are In The Crowd, NOFX, Pennywise, Dream State, and Grayscale.

NOFX’s Fat Mike, said: “I don’t actually remember playing last year… so we decided to do it again this year! I probably still won’t remember, but this time we’re gonna video tape it!”

Slam Dunk Festival North take place, at Leeds Temple, in Newsam, on Saturday the 23rd of May 2020. While, Slam Dunk South will take place, at Hatfield House, in Hertfordshire, on Sunday the 24th of May 2020.

Sum 41 will join be joined as headliners by the previously announced Don Broco, alongside the likes of The Wonder Years, State Champs, Mayday Parade, Knuckle Puck, Four Year Strong, Bayside, Ice Nine Kills, Issues, Hands Like Houses and Motion City Soundtrack. The festival’s latest line-up announcement also includes a world exclusive reunion from We Are The In Crowd and the return of Your Demise.

Posting on Instagram, Slam Dunk wrote: “THE SECOND #SDF20 ANNOUNCEMENT HAS ARRIVED! Yes, it’s happening, the rumours are true… We are bringing the mighty Sum 41 to the party as our second headliner, alongside Billy Talent and The Used!

“SDF favourites The Story So Far are back for 2020 and Basement make their 2nd ever SDF appearance. We have 2 massive reunions for Slam Dunk 2020. The first is the UK’s very own hardcore heroes, Your Demise. We are also super excited to have We Are The In Crowd back on UK soil as a world exclusive!”

Concluding they said: “We are pleased to announce the return of Punk In Drublic Stage to SDF. The full line up will be announced soon, but for now we can tell you NOFX will be returning with the legendary Pennywise. Last but not least we have UK up-and-comers Dream State, and American pop-punks Grayscale, plus plenty more to come over the following months, including our 2 heavy stages!”
