Speaking on Strummer and the posted performance, Vedder stated, “I just think that what Joe did with the Mescaleros and those records, those songs and those words, it was a very communal sound, I think when you have a communal sound, the listener feels like they can be part of that community. I can only imagine that he facilitated thousands and thousands of connections.”

Joe Strummer first rose to fame as the co-founder, singer and guitarist of The Clash, the group was formed in the late 70s and soon became a beacon within the era’s rising punk movement. Soon after their formation, The Clash created a key part of music and cultural history, the band’s third studio album London Calling was released in 1979. The album’s lead single “London Calling” soon became a staple of the genre and would go on to define an era and generation.

After Strummer disbanded the band in 1986 he embarked on the next chapter of his career, the talented artist then began his work in film soundtracks and began to release solo material. One of Strummer’s first forays into film music was in 1986 within the film Sid and Nancy, the film charted the chaotic relationship between Nancy Spungen and Sid Vicious from fellow UK punk outfit The Sex Pistols. During the ’90s, Strummer formed his own personal supergroup, The Mescaleros would go onto release three studio albums including “Long Shaddow’s” partner album Streetcore.

The album was released on 21st October 2003 via Hellcat, an independent record label based in California’s Los Angeles. The album was posthumously released after the tragic passing of Strummer in December 2002 and was received with great applause. At its time of release, Mojo magazine stated that “Streetcore is an amalgam of all that made Joe Strummer, the musician and the man, so great.”

Last month it was announced that a new box set would be released, Joe Strummer: 002: The Mescaleros Years is set to drop on 16th September 2022. The collection will feature songs by Strummer and The Mescaleros, the box set will mark the first-ever release of an anthology take from group’s entire discography.

Strummer’s widow Lucinda Tait was the executive producer of the upcoming collection and has given the following statement, “There’s so much great music that Joe left us in his archive. To focus on Joe’s work with The Mescaleros was the natural second step on ‘002’ because those songs he made with them just seemed to resonate so strongly and reinvigorated his connection with his audience at a level he hadn’t experienced since his days with The Clash.”

Primal Scream’s UK tour is to mark the 30th anniversary of the seminal album Screamadelica. In celebration of the album’s release, the tour’s setlist sees the band perform their third studio album in full. The group’s headlining tour began at the start of the month with a performance in Glasgow and has two more dates left. The tour’s next stop is on 21^st July 2022 with a set at Standon Calling, the concluding performance is scheduled to take place on 22nd July 2022 at Welsh venue Alexandra Head.

Originally released on 23^rd September 1991 via Creation Records, Screamadelica will celebrate its official 30th birthday this autumn. The album has become a key part of the band’s history as the release confirmed the band’s adoption of a new sound. Prior to its release, Primal Scream had made a name for themselves within the indie rock genre, Screamadelica saw the band take inspiration from the house music scene which had exploded at the start of the decade. The album is steeped in musical history and holds importance for its involvement with the Mercury Music Prize, the album was crowned the acclaimed accolade’s first ever winner in 1992.

Saturday’s show was not the first time that Marr and Primal Scream have shared a stage, the 58-year-old musician joined the band in 2019 at the end of their set in Manchester’s Albert Hall. Similar to last night’s cameo, Marr also played on the live renditions of “Jailbird” and the 1994 single “Rocks”.

The recent collaboration with Primal Scream is one of many guest appearances Marr has made this Summer. Earlier within the month, Marr joined Grunge icons Pearl Jam on stage during their second date at BST Hyde Park. Last month also saw Marr share a stage with Alicia Keys; whilst performing at Manchester’s AO Arena, the American pianist invited Marr to perform the classic Smiths song “This Charming Man”. During the set Keys said to the crowd, “I’ve talked a lot about New York tonight, Now I want to talk about Manchester.” As the musician walked on stage Keys announced his arrival by shouting “Johnny Marr!”.

Two special new releases of the album will also drop in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Screamadelica; Screamadelica 12’’ Singles box set and Screamadelica double Vinyl picture disc will be available from 17th September 2022. Primal Scream will also release a brand-new collection of previously unreleased demos and early recordings, entitled Demodelica the new album will be released on 15th October 2022. The upcoming album will be available to order in various formats including digital, double vinyl, CD and C-90 cassettes, also included within the upcoming collection are liner notes penned by acclaimed writer John Savage.

Frontman Eddie Vedder addressed the audience to pay tribute to Hawkins, “There’s another guy who really loved London… we all knew him and loved and respected, and we were enlightened by him. It was one of the brutal losses we’ve had recently. I’m talking about Mr Taylor Hawkins.” During the performance, Vedder also took the time to acknowledge those involved in the struggles currently affecting Ukraine and those fighting against Russia, “I just want to send one out to the good folks fighting for their homeland back in Ukraine.”

The grunge icons first took to London’s Hyde Park on Friday 8th July 2022, when the band embarked on their second night Vedder promised the crowd that they would perform “all the songs we didn’t play last night”. The 57-year-old singer also added, “We are very, very grateful to you – you great bunch of humans. With two years of no shows we’re out of practice, but you’re already better than ever.” Upon striding onto the Great Oak Stage, the group bestowed an incredible 22 song-set to their cheering crowd, fans were treated to such hits as “Black”, “Yellow Ledbetter”, “Rats” and “Animal“.

Many fans attended both nights of Pearl Jam’s two-day residency at London’s beloved summer event, this was due to both nights having different support acts. Within the band’s second and final night they were supported by British rockers Stereophonics, legendary musician Johnny Marr, Imelda May, Temples, The Last Internationale, La Luz, The Wild Things, JJ Wilde, Tigerclub, Whispering Sons, Petrol Girls, James & The Cold Gun, Peaks and Connor Selby.

Music fans screamed with excitement when Marr joined Pearl Jam on stage during their headlining set, the former The Smiths guitarist performed within an expanded guitar solo within a cover of “Throw Your Hatred Down”. The track first appeared within the Neil Young album Mirror Ball, released in 1995 the LP was the 21st studio album to be released by iconic musician. Famously, Pearl Jam have long been fans of Young and were featured within the album as performers as well as co-writers of selected tracks.

Marr later returned to the stage during the end of the set, for the set’s final song both acts performed a cover of The Who’s “Barbara O’Reilly”. Before leaving the stage and concluding their two-night residency, Vedder said to the crowd, “Thank you for the last two days. Take care of yourselves, take care of our planet. We love you.”

The Summer event will mark Stereophonics’ first performance at the iconic location in over a decade, the group last appeared at the London venue during the opening ceremony for the London Olympics in 2012. The group performed alongside Duran Duran, Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini, all four acts were selected to perform as they represented the four nations incorporated within the United Kingdom.

Also billed to perform alongside Stereophonics on Saturday 9th July 2022 are Imelda May, The Last Internationale, La Luz, JJ Wilde and The Wild Things. Pearl Jam start their two-day concert series at BST Hyde Park on Friday 8th July 2022, set to support the group on Friday are fellow grunge icons Pixies. The “Debaser” group will also be joined by singer-songwriter Cat Power, White Reaper, The Murder Capital, The Glorious Songs, Simon Townshend, La Luz, Sick Joy and English female punk group Dream Nails.

Pearl Jam’s BST Hyde Park appearance was originally set for 2021 but due to COVID-19 relates issues the event was postponed until this year. To announce the news, BST Hyde Park posted the following statement on their website, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that BST Hyde Park will not take place in July 2021. We are however happy to share that Duran Duran and Pearl Jam will go ahead in July 2022. Pearl Jam will take place on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July 2022. Friday 8th will feature special guests Pixies, whilst Saturday 9th July will welcome a new guest artist to be announced – as well as full supporting lineups. Duran Duran will take place on Sunday 10th July 2022 and will be rejoined by their incredible guest – Nile Rodgers & CHIC, with further acts to be confirmed soon. “

The London event continued to update ticket-holders with administrative information whilst confirming the decision taken to delay the live event, “All tickets remain valid for the scheduled 2022 dates. You will be directly contacted by the ticket agent you purchased from with full details, including refund information if you are no longer able to attend the rescheduled dates. If you have not been contacted about a refund by your ticket agent by Friday 30th April, please get in touch with them directly. The festival has announced that Pearl Jam, Imagine Dragons, A$AP Rocky and David Guetta will headline the 2022 event. The festival will be held on 16th-17th July 2022 at Hippodrome De Longchamp.

The festival’s fourth event in Paris boasts a line-up of over 50 further acts, all of which will perform across the festival’s four stages. Festival goers will also be able to take advantage of the French cuisine on offer, art exhibitions and an area in which provides education on how best to help the world. Other acts billed to play include Megan Thee Stallion, Jack Harlow, Anitta, Illenium, Turnstile, Phoebe Bridgers and Eurovision champions Måneskin. Ticketholders will be able to see headliners Imagine Dragons and famed DJ David Guetta on the festival’s first day, 16th July 2022. The second and final day includes headliners A$AP Rocky and rock icons Pearl Jam.

Lollapalooza was founded by Perry Farrell in 1991 and initially entertained the public as a touring festival. The festival has remained a staple in any music fan’s calendar and has led the way in live entertainment for over 30 years. The festival has now branched out all over the world and in 2005 made its home in Chicago. The recent expansion joins the long list of cities that host the annual event including Chile, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, France and Sweden.

The global festival is regarded a trailblazer within the live music and festival event fields. It was the first festival to intertwine musical genres in their lineups, include multiple dates, have a second stage and showcase electronic music acts on the main stage. Lollapalooza is considered a forerunner for holding festivals in cities and has spearheaded the city experience with locations across the globe. Outside of music, the festival has also made its mark on challenging the big issues. Lollapalooza was the first festival to combine the arts with activism and to counterbalance its carbon omissions.

The festival’s dedication to the planet is clearly evident and next year is no different. The Paris festival is produced by founder Perry Farrell, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Live Nation France and C3 Presents. This year the event would have celebrated its 30th anniversary. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the festival was postponed until next year.

The new single released via Seattle Surf/Republic Records sees Vedder work with producer Andrew Watt. “Long Way” marks the first collaboration between Vedder and the American producer, Watt can also be heard playing guitar and bass on the new track. Often known as WATT, the 30-year-old producer has worked with some of music’s most popular artists including Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Rita Ora.

The press release for the new single describes the duo’s partnership: “Vedder’s iconic vocals shine through as Watt’s production drives home the emotions of the track.” Other iconic musicians have also lent their talents to Vedder’s new track including Benmont Tench member of American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Tench lends his skills via a Hammond B3 organ, Josh Linghoffer former Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist plays guitar and piano, the song’s percussion is supplied by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

“Long Way” is the first song to be taken from the frontman’s upcoming new solo album Earthling, the singer’s new album has not yet been given a release date. The new album will follow Vedder’s 2020 solo EP Matter of Time and the original soundtrack for motion picture Flag Day released on 20th August 2021. Within the soundtrack, Vedder has collaborated with Glen Hansard on eight new compositions for the film’s soundtrack. The soundtrack for Flag Day boasts an impressive roster of further collaborators including celebrated singer-songwriter Cat Power, Power works with Vedder and Hansard on three new tracks and a cover.

The soundtrack also features Vedder’s daughter Olivia Vedder, Vedder makes her musical debut on two tracks. Released via Seattle Surf and Republic Records, the new soundtrack is available from all streaming services and is also able to pre-order on wax via PearlJam.com’s shop.

Hansard is no stranger to soundtrack work, the 51-year-old artist is best known for his appearance in the BAFTA award-winning motion picture The Commitments. Based on the 1987 novel by Roddy Boyle, the story was adapted for the big screen by Alan Parker and told the tale of an Irish Soul band, the film was released in 1991 and has since acquired a cult following. Since its release, the film’s soundtrack has become a critical and commercial success and a second instalment was released a year after. Vedder is also known for his work within Soundtracks and film scoring, in 2007 the “Even Flow” singer penned the soundtrack for Into The Wild. The soundtrack was released on 18^th September 2007 via J Records and not only marked the singer’s first soundtrack release but also marked his debut solo album release.

Along with the news of his new single Vedder has also announced that pre-order sales for a special limited edition 7-inch Vinyl for “Long Way” are now open, fans will be able to pre-order the new single in this allusive format, the Vinyl release will also include another new song “The Haves”. The Vinyl release will also include a digital download and is available to pre-order through Pearl Jam’s Ten Club fan organization.

Vedder will be hitting the road this year with his legendary band Pearl Jam, the group will play the festival Sea.Hear.Now held at Asbury Park, NY on 18th-19th September 2021. The band will also appear at other festivals, Ohana Festival on 26th September 2021 and Ohana Festival’s Encore Weekend held on 1st-2nd October 2021. Vedder will also perform a solo set at Ohana Festival on 25th September 2021, the event is held at Dana Point, CA.

The musical icon will encompass his 2022 Summer appearance into his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road- The Final tour’, the singer’s Hyde Park performance will mark the tour’s last London performance. Sir John’s award-winning tour restarts in May 2022 in Frankfurt with dates across Europe and ends in North America with dates in Vancouver, Chicago and various other cities. The epic four-year tour officially ends in 2023 with performances in New Zealand and yet to announced dates in Australia.

The annual Summer concert series will return next year with Sir Elton John, he will also be joined by soon to be announced, special guests. CEO of European Festivals at the world’s leading live entertainment company AEG, Jim King has provided the following statement concerning Sir John’s upcoming performance. King expresses BST Hyde Park’s importance within live events and conveys Sir John’s significance within the music industry. “American Express presents BST Hyde Park has always stood for the world’s biggest and most loved artists bringing not just a performance but a truly one-off and memorable event. Elton John has provided the soundtrack to the lives of so many of us and to know that his last tour is coming to Hyde Park, possibly the last time many of us will ever see him play, is one of the most important and ‘must see’ nights of BST Hyde Park ever.”

The exciting news of Sir John’s Hyde Park appearance comes just days before the announcement of the release of his new album, The Lockdown Sessions, set to be released on 22nd October 2021. The new album features various collaborations with some of popular music’s biggest names including his now-famous cover of the Pet Shop Boys hit “It’s a Sin” with Years & Years singer Olly Alexander. The pair made history at this year’s Brit Awards when the artists performed the cover, the duo remained a favourite from the ceremony due to the emotional and stirring response to the performance. The album also features his new hit with Dua Lipa entitled “Cold Heart”, “After All” with Carlie Puth and a cover of the iconic Metallica song “Nothing Else Matters”. The cover’s artist list reads as a new supergroup made up of Sir John, Miley Cyrus, Metallica’s own bassist Robert Trujillo, renowned producer and singer WATT, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

The “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” singer has released the following statement concerning his new release. “All the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory,” he said. “And I realised there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

American Express presents BST Hyde Park has also announced further artists and dates, grunge heroes Pearl Jam will be taking the stage on Friday 8th July and Saturday 9th July 2022. The “Even Flow” hitmakers will be joined by fellow 90’s icons The Pixies on their Friday performance, the special guest set to perform with Pearl Jam on their Saturday set has yet to be announced. Legendary 80’s group Duran Duran are set to play on Sunday 10th July 2022 and will be joined by special guests Nile Rodgers and CHIC and other acts also yet to be announced.

Presale tickets went on sale this morning for American Express cardholders, general ticket sales are available to buy from Friday 10th September at 10 am.

The American Express festival is set to return next year, and Pearl Jam are the first act to be revealed from the line-up. They’ll take to the stage on 9th and 10th July supported by Pixies (9th) and IDLES (10th), with more artists to be added. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday 10th October at 10am, but fans who purchased tickets for 2020 will have the opportunity to rebook and attend both dates, with tickets available from 10am on Thursday 8th October.

Pearl Jam will be performing songs from latest album ‘Gigaton’ which was released back in March just as both the UK and the US went into lockdown. They have been able to play the songs via livestream, but as of yet they have never performed it with a live audience. The album was the band’s first LP release since 2013, although they had worked on many singles and EPs during those seven years.

BST (British Summer Time) at Hyde Park began in 2013, as a 10-day festival taking place across two weekends. It has seen headliners including Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Kylie Minogue, The Who, Blur, and The Strokes. An incredible show was planned for 2020, with the likes of Taylor Swift, Little Mix, and Post Malone announced as headliners, and support acts James Blake, Rita Ora, and Pixies. This is the first year the show has not gone ahead since it started.

IDLES have recently shared their third album ‘Ultra Mono’, a 12-track punk-rock album containing singles ‘Mr. Motivator’, ‘Grounds’, ‘A Hymn’, and ‘Model Village’. They will also be embarking on their own tour in 2021, taking them around the UK and Europe.

“This would have been the 8th year of this event and we were looking forward to putting on amazing, unique shows for hundreds of thousands of fans in the world’s greatest outdoor venue. But safety always comes first.”

In addition, the 2020 edition of BST would be special for the headlining artists as well. Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar were supposed to perform for the first time in a music festival, as both were also booked to appear at Glastonbury 2020, which is already cancelled too. Lamar also planned to play some new music from his upcoming album.

Meanwhile, legendary band Pearl Jam was set to make a return with their show at the festival since the release of ‘Lightning Bolt‘ in 2013. Duran Duran also planned to rock the stage for the first time in five years in the capital.

The organisers promised to bring BST back again in 2021. Those who already purchased tickets will be contacted from the agent for a refund process.

BST 2020 has been another victim of COVID-19 this year after many musical events have suffered the ill fate of cancellation. For now, let’s stay safe, watch our hands clean, and hope for a better day to come.

Previously announced as one of the headlining acts at BST Hyde Park was the pop sensation Little Mix. The girl group will also be joined the appearance of Rita Ora and Kesha, who will release her fourth studio album High Road this January.

Pearl Jam last released their album Lightning Bolt back in October 2013, and they are in the process of making a new record. Pearl Jam’s bassist Jeff Ament shared that the new album has been influenced by the tragedy of Chris Cornell:

“It’d be fun to record or even just to write a song together,” he said. “I think when Chris passed – that’s really been a tough one to wrap our heads around – and then there’s just life stuff,” said Ament.
