London-based record label PC Music is finally planning a follow-up to their 2016 ‘Vol. 2’ compilation album, this time packed with recent artists such as Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek. Having a planned release date of May 13th, it will also feature the likes of US singer-songwriter Clairo and producer A.G. Cook on its mix. The tracklist can be seen at the end of this article, with a bit of mystery thrown in over three songs that remain unidentified as of now.

However, that’s not all. The label will also be hosting a showcase of their artists at the soon-to-be-reopened KOKO venue in London, Camden High Street. It’s been a tough time for KOKO as of recent, what with fires, water damage and pandemics helping keep it closed since 2019 and costing £70 million to fix up. But it should be in tip-top shape as of this April when the place is finally set to reopen.

And after all that effort, I think they deserve a bit of music. The PC Music showcase will reportedly be “the label’s biggest flagship event to date“, and is set to take place the month after their ‘vol.3’ compilation is released (on June 15th). And that’s not the only thing KOKO has to look forward to. Artists such as Pete Doherty, Remi Wolf, Jorja Smith and many others are also set to play at the newly refurbished venue. If you want to see more details about what’s happening at KOKO, you can look here.

PC Music has been keeping itself busy recently aside from compilation-business. A number of recent releases include Caroline Polachek’s recent single “Billions“, which was released last February. Hyd’s self-titled EP is another thing fans of the label should probably look out for. And then there’s Charli XCX, whose run of singles lately is sure to excite fans everywhere in wait for her upcoming album, Crash, which is due out on March 18th. If you want to read more about some of her recent releases, you can look here and here.

What would you do if you could travel back in time to 2010? Tell students not to vote Lib Dem? Convince Trump that presidency just isn’t worth the hassle? Invest in Bitcoin? Tell you what I’d do; I’d reassure my braces-toting, acne-ridden, twelve-year-old self with this unfathomable sentence: “Don’t worry kid, give it ten years and Minecraft’s servers will be the coolest place you can be”. In scenes resembling the plot of a bad YA novel, the internet’s favourite pop stars are gathering inside a video game to bring you some respite from the pandemic-enforced siege all we’re all living under.

Hot off the success of last Saturday’s ‘Nether Meant’ (which raised over $8,000 for Good360’s COVID-19 relief efforts), virtual event masterminds Open Pit have made good on their promise that “more [was] to come soon”. ‘Square Garden’ – which will take place at 11pm BST on 24th April – will be their second Minecraft-based festival in under a fortnight, this time in support of the charity Feeding America.

The event is fittingly being co-hosted by post-genre (hell, maybe even post-music???) duo 100 gecs, who legend has it played their very first ‘live’ gig at the Minecraft festival ‘Coalchella’ back in September 2018. The group are also headlining alongside Charli XCX, Cashmere Cat & Benny Blanco. The rammed setlist dwarfs ‘Nether Meant’ in both scale and scope, boasting electropop outfit Kero Kero Bonito, as well as PC Music staples A.G. Cook, GFOTY, Danny L Harle, and umru. ‘Square Garden’ looks to cement Open Pit as the kings of this year’s inevitable online festival circuit. I, for one, welcome our new cyberspace overlords.

For those who don’t own a copy of Minecraft, you can stream the event via 100 gec’s YouTube channel and website.
