The countdown to the 2024 edition of popular Derbyshire festival Bearded Theory is now officially underway as the first artists for next year’s event have been confirmed. American alt rock band Jane’s Addiction will make their first appearance in the UK in eight years at the festival, situated at Catton Hall, next year, while Australian punk powerhouses Amyl And The Sniffers will also be in attendance.

The festival, which is set to run from 23 May to 26 May 2024, will also welcome Nottingham based grim duo Sleaford Mods, London based grime-punk duo Bob Vylan, and American synth pop group Future Islands. Other acts scheduled to appear include festival favourites Gentleman’s Dub Club, electronic music duo Orbital, Bradford post-punk outfit New Model Army and Dutch indie rock group Pip Blom.

Next year will be the festival’s 15th year, and is set to showcase the remarkable transition from its humble beginnings in 2008 to becoming one of Britain’s most loved music festivals, with Bearded Theory being shortlisted for Best Medium-Sized Festival at the UK Festival Awards this year.

This year’s edition of Bearded Theory saw the introduction of two brand new stages, Big Ed and the Meadow Stage, playing host to bands such as Echo And The Bunnymen and Viagra Boys. These two stages are set to return in 2024.

Festival organiser Ben Ryles has said, “We’re very excited to have two of our favourite alt-rock heroes choosing Bearded Theory as their only UK festival for the year. We also can’t wait to welcome Amyl and the Sniffers and Future Islands, who are so widely renowned for their incredible live shows, as well as festival favourites Sleaford Mods and electronic icons Orbital.”

He continued, “Across this first batch of almost 50 acts there are fast-rising artists at the forefront of their scenes, legendary performers, and plenty of Bearded Theory crowd-pleasers. We’re really pleased to finally reveal them and get the countdown on to the start of the festival season.”

The British electronic band, Orbital have announced a 2024 UK and Ireland tour, in which they will play the entirety of their 1991 self-titled debut, also known as the Green Album. Tickets can be found here.

The band, which formed in Sevenoaks in 1989 by brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, will be playing the album across the isles, at venues such as the Troxy in London and Barrowland in Glasgow. The Green Album features iconic track ‘Belfast’ as well as tracks like Chime and Desert Storm, which would serve as a precursor for the direction the duo would go in musically.

Talking about the upcoming tour, Phil Hartnoll said: “To play The Green Album live will be a wholly new experience for us and you, it’ll be a bit of an adventure. This will be new territory that I can’t wait to explore. As the saying goes… There is the theory of the Möbius, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop, and when we reach that point, whatever happened will happen again. That time, it would appear, is now,”

Tickets for the tour will be available on general sale this Thursday (October 20th) at 10am, and the presale tickets also being made available tomorrow (October 17th) at 10am also. Tickets can be purchased here.

The band released a retrospective remix album, 30 Something, last year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the duo’s debut. The album feature re imaginings of songs across their entire catalogue including tracks like ‘Belfast’, which feature on The Green Album. The duo have also been working on collaborations, as last month they remixed ‘In ár gCroíthe go deo’, a track from Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C.

Orbital earlier this year released their latest album, Optical Delusion, in which they also collaborated with British post-punk band Sleaford Mods on the song ‘Dirty Rat’. About the collaboration, Paul Hartnoll said: “This track is a giant capital letter, like in the Book of Kells, where the very first letter always gets the big treatment from the monk when he’s doing his illustrated borders. It’s got that old school dance music vibe with bits of Cabaret Voltaire in there, even bits of The Shamen. It’s a little bit punk rock, nice and loud. A really refreshing, ‘wake up’ kind of track. And Jason is just brilliant!”

Tour Dates:

24/04/2024 – Exeter University Grand Hall – Exeter, United Kingdom
25/04 – 02 Guidehall – Southampton, United Kingdom
26/04 – 02 Institute – Birmingham, United Kingdom

Camp Bestival has been forced to cancel it’s final day proceedings due to sever weather, which has recently gripped the UK. The festival’s organisers are “utterly devastated and heartbroken” that the decision had to be made to close the site in Dorset.

The gates first opened for the festival on Thursday July 26, and was due to run until the night on July 29, seeing the likes of Orbital, Simple Minds, and The Undertones take to the stage at the Lulworth Castle site. However, the festival organisers issued a statement saying that the site had to be close as a safety precaution, following several flood warnings issued across England and Wales over the weekend, following a nigh-on unprecedented heat wave in the UK.

The post continues: “You are by far the best festival audience and we love you dearly. This has been such a tough decision, but the safety of all you guys, the families, kids, and our working staff has to be of paramount importance.

“The campsites will remain open tonight if you want to continue with your Camp Bestival stay regardless of the conditions. Thank you so much for coming and please get home safely.”

Fans shared recorded footage of the damage caused by the weather, with the general consensus being that the right decision was made to cut the event short.
