The 41-year-old X Factor star left fans shocked and disappointed last Thursday after he walked off stage in the middle of his set at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. The singer was only twenty minutes into his performance before he unexpectedly dashed off the stage, telling fans: “This has never happened to me before, but you can hear my voice is going.”  

After coming 2nd in the 2009 series of The X Factor UK, Olly Murs soared to success. Over his more than 15-year-long career, Murs has achieved 5 number 1 albums and several number 1 hits in the UK, such as ‘Troublemaker’ and ‘Dance With Me Tonight’.

Currently, he’s amidst his ’15 Years Of Hits’ tour, supported by boyband Blue, playing for thousands of fans in gigs across the country. He kicked off the tour on 24 April, in Plymouth, and has since extended the tour, adding extra dates due to popular demand.

Prior to this, only one day into the tour, Murs had to postpone his gigs in Brighton and Hull, due to an outbreak of gastroenteritis infecting his band and crew. Murs assured fans that the dates would be “rescheduled as soon as possible.” His Hull show was on 20 May, and his Brighton show is due to take place on 27 May.

In a video shared by The Sun, taken from the Glasgow show, Murs explains his reasoning for cancelling on stage. He tells fans: “I wouldn’t want to continue on and just ruin it for you guys because it’s a really great show. I’m really proud of this whole production and how it’s looking, how it’s sounding, and for some reason, five songs in, my voice is going. That is so unlike me, so I just want to say sorry from the bottom of my heart.

“I don’t want to upset you guys, I’m so sorry. We’ll sort out refunds for anyone that’s unhappy, but Glasgow, I will be back to see you guys soon. I’m so sorry. I’ll see you soon. I love you all.

“That’s the best I can do, so sorry.”

Since then, Murs has scrapped a further two shows on his tour, in Manchester and Birmingham, stating that his reason for doing so, and for walking off in Glasgow, was his poor health. He tells fans in a post on Instagram that he has “been instructed to go on a strict 48 hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal cords.” He still hopes to perform a show tomorrow, 25 May in the O2 Arena in London.

One fan on X shares: “Take care for yourself. A performance can be redone, but a permanently damaged body is harder to fix.”

Chelmsford City Racecourse will host the event, titled ‘Chelmsford City Live 2025’, which will see 30,000 people attend the event each day. Essex born and bred popstar, Olly Murs will perform a headline show on Sunday, 6 July, while American singer Justin Timberlake will headline two days prior, on Friday, 4 July.

The festival is in partnership with Chelmsford City Racecourse, Live Nation and Cuffe and Taylor. Cuffe and Taylor promoter Ben Hatton, who hails from Essex, commented on the upcoming festival: “We are delighted to be announcing a whole new festival for Essex for 2025 and beyond. The venue essentially provides us with a blank canvas that will enable us to attract some of the biggest names in the world of live music today and that means our options are endless. The forthcoming festival will take place on non-race days during a long 4-day weekend in July,  where each day will feature a standalone headline concert. This gives festival fans the opportunity to attend the festival for a single day to witness a particular headline show or buy a multi-day pass.

Since opening its doors in 2015, Chelmsford City Racecourse has established a reputation for providing “award-winning sports and entertainment” to attendees in central Essex. Thousands upon thousands of fans have witnessed many legendary performances from a series of concerts throughout the years. Hosting concerts for iconic ska-pop band Madness in 2015, indie rock band Razorlight in 2018 and ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ singer Sophie Ellis Bexter in 2022, to name a few.

Hailing from Witham in Essex, Olly Murs rose to fame on UK music-reality show, The X Factor in 2009, where he finished as runner-up. The following year he released a self-titled album, which peaked at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart featuring Number 1 Single ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’. Since then, Murs has had many charting singles, including Number 1 singles ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ featuring hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks, ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ and ‘Troublemaker’ featuring Flo Rida. It is no doubt Murs will perform some of his earlier iconic hits alongside tracks from his latest LP ‘Marry Me’, which released in 2022.

Joining Murs, the ten-time Grammy Award Winner Justin Timberlake will perform a headline set. Dubbed the ‘Prince of Pop’ for his contributions to the genre, Timberlake has sold over 117 million records worldwide, including his work as a soloist and his role as lead vocalist of 90s boyband NSYNC, where Timberlake rose to acclaim. Known for his tracks ‘SexyBack’, ‘CAN’T STOP THE FEELING’, ‘Mirrors’ and ‘Rock Your Body’, the pop icon will head to Chelmsford City Live 2025 as a stop on his current ‘The Forget Tomorrow World Tour’.

Nathan Holmes, Chelmsford Racecourse’s commercial director spoke on the news of Timberlake’s headline performance, stating: “It’s a landmark moment for the venue where we have sought to bring the biggest international acts to Essex and establish ourselves as the leading destination for live music in the South East”.

The singer provided the following statement concerning the cancellation of his tour, “I am absolutely gutted to have to cancel my summer tour this year, but unfortunately I’ve had to have new major knee surgery. I’m devastated I won’t be performing these shows, and can only apologise for any inconvenience caused. Rest assured I will be fighting fit for new music later this year!”

Murs’ tour was meant to start on 10th June 2022 with a performance at Belfast’s Botanic Gardens and included a set at London’s Royal Chelsea Hospital. The Essex born singer was then set to return to his home county for a performance at Norwich’s Blickling Estate on 12th July 2022. The twenty-one-date tour was then to conclude on 4th September 2022 at Stoke On Trent’s Trentham Gardens. The tour also included a performance at the legendary Edinburgh Castle on 8th July 2022, the set was part of this year’s Castle Concerts series.

The “Troublemaker” singer’s cancelled tour was to be his sixth headlining tour. Murs last hit the road in 2019 for the You Know I Know Tour. The tour was in support of the singer’s most recently released album, You Know I Know. The singer’s sixth studio album was released on 9th November 2018 via RCA and Sony, and garnered commercial success and peaked at number two within the UK album charts.

In other news, Murs was left wordless during this Saturday’s episode of the ITV talent show Starstruck. Within the show, the host was presented with three contestants who took the stage to pay tribute to the singer. The trio of Olly Murs lookalikes proceeded to perform the singer’s greatest hits, after the performance the real Murs appeared to be impressed. Murs told the hopefuls, “I’m lost for words, best team of the night, I’m lost for words. I’m absolutely sweating, it’s so weird.”

Further information concerning the cancellation of the tour and if the performances will be rescheduled has not yet been released. Fans who purchased tickets for the cancelled shows can request a refund via the platform used to purchase the tickets.

A source has spoken to The Sun newspaper concerning the recent reports, “Olly was with RCA for 12 years which is a really long time. It felt like it was time to move on and try something new. He had a discussion with them and ultimately decided he wanted to shake things up a bit. He has been in the studio working on music for months now and wants to get it out soon. As things stand, loads of labels have expressed their interest and now it’s just a case of finding the best deal which will work for him. Olly is really excited about the next chapter. He has had some time out and is raring to get going again now with a new team behind him.”

The former X-Factor contestant has recently experienced a resurgence in popularity due to his new hosting job on ITV. Murs was recruited to be a part of the network’s new Saturday night show Starstruck. The programme follows the traditional talent show format except the performers are superfans who must embody their idol to win a cash prize. The winner is determined by a panel full of impressive talent, Queen Frontman Adam Lambert, comedian and actor Jason Manford, celebrated actress Sheridan Smith and music legend Beverley Knight. Murs took to Instagram last month to celebrate the premiere of the new show.

Murs first gained popularity through his appearance on The X Factor; the singer was part of the sixth series aired in 2009. Murs made it to the finals and performed “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus as the winner’s song, despite being a viewer favourite he lost the competition to Joe McElderry. The Essex born singer was swiftly signed to a record deal and his self-titled debut album was released in 2010, the release sired great commercial success and placed at number two within the UK album charts. The debut album’s lead single, “Please Don’t Let Me Go”, was also successful and reached number one with the singles charts and received a BRIT nomination for Best British Single in 2011.

Rumours recently began to circulate that Murs was working on new material for his new album. The release would be the singer’s seventh studio album and would follow his most recent album You Know I Know. The album dropped on 9th November 2018 and was released as a double album, acting as a greatest hits compilation as well as the incorporation of new songs.

The You Know I Know Tour kicked off in 2019 and marked his fifth concert tour, the Summer Tour was due to start in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID restrictions. Murs is set to continue the tour with many dates scheduled for this Summer, and will kick off with a performance on 10th June 2022 at Belfast’s Botanic Gardens.

Olly will be kicking the tour off in Swansea on the 5th of June before heading to Belfast, Cork, London, Telford, Cornwall, Kent, Exeter, Scarborough, Leeds, New Milton, Norwich, Bath, Haydock Park, Warwick, Cardiff, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Bedford, New Market, Colwyn Bay, Newbury, Darlington before finishing off the tour in his home county Essex with a show in Castle Park in Colchester on the 29th of August. All of the venues will be outdoors, including big venues like The Marquee in Cork and Cardiff Castle.

Talking about the tour, Olly has said; “I can’t tell you how excited I am to announce this tour. It’s been such a tough year for everyone and I can’t wait to get back out on the road and entertain my fans. To finish the tour in my home town will be the perfect way to sign off the summer. We’re definitely going to be celebrating in Colchester next August.”

This isn’t the only news from Olly, he also revealed on the Heart Breakfast show with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden that The Voice will be back recording soon and hinted at the possibility of new coaches joining the team.

Regarding the event Dermot said; “I’m so excited to announce that I’m making my Soccer Aid for UNICEF debut on Saturday 6^th September at the best football stadium in the world, Old Trafford. Dermot will be joining other musicians like Olly Murs, who will be returning to Soccer Aid after recovering from knee surgery. Marvin Humes, Santan Dave and Chelcee Grimes will also be joining the line-up. Chelcee has written songs for huge acts such as The Saturdays, Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue. She is also a footballer and currently plays as a forward for Fulham Ladies. Danny Jones has also announced he will be returning to the field in a humorous video with bandmates McFly.

Soccer Aid For UNICEF is the world’s biggest celebrity football match, raising money to give kids the best start in life. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will also raise money for Save Generation Covid. Every £1 donated will be trebled to £3 courtesy of the UK government and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Soccer Aid has raised for than £38 million for UNICEF UK since it began in 2006.

Other players that you can look forward to seeing on your screens are celebrities; Jason Manford, Joel Dommett, Kem Centiney, Roman Kemp, Joe Wicks, Lee Mack, Iain Stirling and Mark Wright. There will also be a range of footballers playing for both sides such as; Robbie Keane, Yaya Touré, David James, Kelly Smith, Lianne Sanderson, Patrice Erva, Liv Cooke, Julie Fleeting, Wes Brown, Katie Chapman and Andy Cole with Wayne Rooney announced as manager for the England team.

The makeshift England squad will take on World XI FC on September 6th. The event will be live streamed exclusively on ITV and STV at 6:30pm.

Posted on 1st May, the five artists picked up instruments and sung together with the goal of uniting and cheering up viewers while they are in lock-down. ‘Shine a Light’ was originally released by McFly in 2010 with Taio Cruz, and is a big hit with fans. It debuted at number 4 on the UK singles chart and sold over 51,000 copies. In the past, both Horan and Arthur have covered the song, with Horan most recently performing it on his Instagram Live in March.

McFly had planned to go on tour throughout spring and summer 2020, however the dates have been rescheduled due to Covid-19. The UK tour will now go ahead in October and November and, in the meantime, the band have been able to work on projects to entertain and support fans.

McFly recently worked on a cover of their song ‘All About You’, a charity video to raise money for the NHS. The video featured band members Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, and Harry Judd along with their families who joined in. All royalties gained from the video will be donated to NHS Charities Together.

Niall Horan has also been involved in numerous projects to support people during this difficult time, running regular livestreams on Instagram, taking part in the ‘Together At Home’ campaign, and appearing in Julia Michaels’ cover video for Doctors Without Borders in America.

“Can’t wait for you to hear some new music but can’t forget the Golden Oldies,” says Murs, in a social media message. He continued: “These are all brand new tracks that only I KNOW and Shaggy, Snoop Dogg and Nile Rodgers might know some too, big love to you all for working on this album with me. The new music will make you MOVE.”

The X Factor runner-up has since gone on to have four UK Number 1 singles and five multi-platinum albums. He has also appeared on numerous TV and is currently a coach on The Voice UK. The Essex-born star has teamed up with some famous faces on his new album, ‘You Know I Know’. Disc one, of the new album, features 14 new songs including the lead single Moves ft. Snoop Dogg and the title track ft. Shaggy, plus other new tunes with titles such as ‘Love Me Again’, ‘Maria’ and ‘Footsteps’.

Disc two of ‘You Know I Know’ is made up of Murs’  biggest smash hits, including his four UK Number 1 singles ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’, ‘Heart Skips A Beat’, ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ and ‘Troublemaker’. The show will be called ‘BBC Children in Need Rocks for Terry’, a charity event which will raise money for BBC Children in Need, which Sir Terry presented from the outset in 1980 until 2014. He didn’t present the show in 2015 as he was unwell.

The show will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Speaking to NME, Fearne Cotton, presenter and friend of Terry Wogan said: “It has been an honour working with Sir Terry across the years on Children in Need and it’s a privilege to be hosting Rocks in celebration of his life. It’s going to be a very special evening with some great artists performing some of his favourite tracks.”

Fellow host of the show Greg James added: “It’s a privilege to host Rocks alongside Fearne. Sir Terry was, in my eyes, the ultimate broadcaster. A friend to millions on his radio show and a hero to millions more through his work with Children in Need. It’s an absolute honour to be asked to be part of the concert. It’s going to be a brilliant night.”

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that Robbie Williams would be rejoining Take That but earlier this week in light of the Apple Music Festival, he released more solo material.
