Bring Me The Horizon spared no creative expenses when making the record, recruiting the likes of Yungblud, BABYMETAL, Nova Twins, and Amy Lee for the riotous new EP.

Bring Me The Horizons’ lead vocalist Oliver Sykes opened up each killer collaboration, singing the highest of praises for each talented artist. When talking about collaborating with Yungblud on Obey, Sykes maintained that the artist’s brazen authenticity makes them integral to the modern music scene. 

Sykes relayed that “He’s the kind of artist that rock needs – the kind of rockstar that changes a scene. I love him; he lights up a room. He’s the polar opposite to me. I wish I could have that confidence that he has. It’s infectious and that’s why a lot of kids look up to him.”

Sykes then went on to compare Yungblud to the late great David Bowie. Sykes said: “not since Bowie have we had people who are just so unashamedly and genuinely themselves and don’t give fuck or play by the rules.”

According to the Happy Song singer, another reason Bring Me the Horizon wanted to work with Yungblud was to strengthen their shared music scenes. Sykes stated that “Even Yungblud was like, ‘Doing a song together is so good for the scene’…It doesn’t matter if you’ve got the best band in the world, because if that’s the only one, then that scene dies… You can count on two hands the prominent rock bands that aren’t legacy acts or indie/pop bands like The 1975.”

Sykes meditated on how the amount of living rock legends has sadly dwindled over the decades. The talented vocalist said: “For actually heavy rock, there aren’t really enough artists to coax people in. I get excited when I see Machine Gun Kelly doing a pop-punk album. That’s going to bring people into our world.”

When discussing BABYMETAL, whom the band enlisted for Kingslayer, Bring Me The Horizon revealed that they had been anxious to work with the duo for a long time. Sykes revealed that “We wanted to do something with them for ages…We’ve got a really special connection with them, even though we don’t speak the same language. We don’t hang out or have conversations, but when you see them, it makes you really happy.”

Sykes also said that BABYMETAL fit perfectly into the EP’s core message: “They work so well with the whole idea of this record being cyber punky. It sounds like an anime trailer.”

Meanwhile, Bring Me The Horizon have confirmed that they will embark on a UK tour next year. The band will hit the road in September 2021, beginning the POSTHUMAN tour in Glasgow and concluding the anticipated tour in London.

The band plans to drop four records this year, as Sykes has told in an exclusive interview with NME. The Sheffield-based metal band has been teasing their new song “Parasite Eve” for a while now, and there are still four more records waiting to be published. “This song is going to be part of a record that has the same feel along with ‘Ludens’”, Sykes said, connecting the newest work with last years “Ludens”.

The new songs are all part of a project called “Post Human”. “We’ve just been winging it and recording from lockdown, and now we’re going to make four different records over the next year and they’ll all share the name ‘Post Human’. They’ll each be tonally different with their own sound and mood. That’s one thing we’ve never really done. There’s often been an over-arching theme on our records, but the music has always felt like a collage. That’s cool and I like it, but sometimes you want a soundtrack for a certain occasion and emotion.”

The idea of “Post Human”, the 33-year-old has said, is “looking at how we’ve stepped out of evolution and the food chain. If we can do that, then we can take responsibility for what we’ve done to the planet and become something better than what humans are right now.”

When asked what to expect from the “Post Human” project, the frontman said that it’s “a recruitment record with battle songs.” “This first record is about hope and anger and feels like the sonic equivalent of a riot. We’re inviting people to find the solution with us.” Sykes wants to release songs from the new records “whenever it feels relevant and will resonate.” Even though there’s no plan on when to release a new song, Sykes assured that fans can expect to hear a lot of new music after the release of “Parasite Eve”, with the EPs ranging from six to ten tracks each.

Talking about tonight’s new record, Sykes has revealed that even though the lyrics to the eagerly awaited “Parasite Eve” sound like they’re straight out of the corona lockdown diary, the song was actually written last year, when he was reading about a Japanese superbug. The track was then recorded in February – just a few weeks before the corona madness hit the UK and Europe.

After postponing their long awaited come back with their single to be released on the 10 June, Bring Me the Horizon have announced their hugely anticipated new single, Parasite Eve, will be landing this week! 

The announcement comes after the Sheffield metal pioneers decided it didn’t feel right to release a single as global protests broke out following the in justices and death of George Floyd. The band wrote, “With the incredible movement that is taking place currently we don’t feel comfortable releasing and promoting anything that takes the focus off what’s important right now…”

Parasite Eve originally a survival game that was released in 1998 by PlayStation, the game and single both share the same name as Bring Me the Horizon’s new single. In their new YouTube video, front man Oli Sykes explains how the inspiration for Parasite Eve came about.  Sykes explained: “Although the inspiration for the song didn’t come from the current pandemic, as we were writing it the similarities started to get weird, I guess. It felt important for us to carry on with this song in particular because the message really hits differently, because it feels like something we need right now.”

In an interview last year with NME, when asked if the band was working on any upcoming projects, Oli Sykes explained that the band might be changing the way they release music. He said, “We’re not going to do an album again, maybe ever. We’re thinking about doing shorter records… the plan is to release multiple records [in 2020].”  

With the band having released their sixth studio album last year, amo, Oli responded further, “There’s all this shit you need to think about and how it’s going to sit on a 15-track album. I don’t want to do that. When we wrote Ludens, it was crazy but it was fun. We just had to write one song and it just had to serve the video game. We didn’t have to write the biggest song in the world. I just love to sit and go, ‘Let’s just write a song and not worry about how it needs to be.’ 

“With the incredible movement that is taking place currently we don’t feel comfortable releasing & promoting anything that takes the focus off what’s important right now”, Sykes declared in a recent Instagram post. However, he’s positive that his fans will understand. “I KNOW you will all understand because we have the best fans in the world & I promise you we won’t make you wait too long & the good news is more music will be coming soon after P.E too.” But for now, people should focus on what’s important: “But for now keep fighting the good fight & stay tuned.”

The song would be the start of releasing new music after the band’s latest album “Amo” was released in 2019. Bring Me The Horizon have been sharing videos on the progress of their eighth album, which they are currently working on during lockdown. In times of self-isolation, they’re being productive by writing new lyrics and coming up with the new songs, as the band members social media accounts show.

In an Instagram post from March 20, frontman Sykes announced the pianist Jordan Fish and him are spending lockdown together with their videographer to continue working on new music. “We are going to continue to write at home & even record some songs, we have everything we need to create the new record”, Sykes wrote and assured that they want to keep the fans updated: “we want to involve you in the whole process – so from tonight, we will be sending constant updates of our progress, doing live chats and stream with you guys.”

The Fans are now awaiting more updates as well as (hopefully) some new songs.

In the post, he discussed their plans for going forward. With his bandmate, Jordan Fish and videographer Brian Cox, the three teamed up during self-isolation. “We’ve been isolating since & are all well.. so here’s our plan,” Sykes said.

Oli added: “We are going to continue to write at home & even record some songs, we have everything we need to create the new record,” 

Sykes laid out ideas to involve fans throughout the process of producing the new album, and that they “will be sending constant updates of our progress, doing live chats and streams”.

Last week, the ‘amo’ band unveiled the BMTH8 project, releasing an announcement video through their Youtube channel. Just yesterday, they released their most recent update entitled ’13BMTH8 -lockdown-.mp4′.

Last December, the band released an eight-track project, featuring a long-awaited collaboration with Halsey. The project was named, here goes… ‘Music to listen to~dance to~blaze to~pray to~feed to~sleep to~talk to~grind to~trip to~breathe to~help to~hurt to~scroll to~roll to~love to~hate to~learn Too~plot to~play to~be to~feel to~breed to~sweat to~dream to~hide to~live to~die to~GO TO’.

It’s an extraordinary album with one track, ‘Underground Big (HEADFULOFHYENA)’, (a team-up with BEXEY & Lotus Eater), lasting 24 minutes. Yes, 24 minutes. BEXEY, Yonaka, Lotus Eater and Toriel further feature on the project.
