  Cummins was at one time the chief photographer of British music magazine, the NME, spending 10 years in that position. His association with the magazine lasted for 25 years, and many of his previously published collections have centred around his time with that publication. These include books on Morrissey, The Fall, and New Order. His work has also been represented in various exhibitions over the years. Hailing from Manchester, much of his work has focussed on around bands from the North West, however he also documented Manchester City’s final season at Maine Road.  

According to a press release quoted by the NME, the book captures the band’s evolution during “twelve months of seismic change that cemented the identity of Oasis.” The book explores the links between the band, and aspects of their image, such as fashion, football, and everything in between. The same press release referred to this as the “just-bought-at-Affleck’s Palace attainability of their look.”

The book features over 150 photographs, with over three-quarters of the included images previously unreleased. The book’s greatest moments are when the band are caught off-guard, with the candid reflections revealing the dynamics of a band that would become global superstars in less than a year. Photos included in a Daily Mail exclusive showed images of Liam Gallagher standing on chairs, and wearing shower caps, with the paper also reporting that the images focussed more on the younger Gallagher, rather than his older brother, Noel.  

Promoting the book, Cummins appeared on Robert Elms’ BBC Radio London slot on 22 March. Discussing various elements of the portfolio, Cummins explained how the photos came about. He was asked to photograph the band by their label, Creation Records, who thought they’d get along given their shared support of Manchester City. He also shared that he is still friends with the brothers, seeing Noel more often than Liam. Recalling their first planned shoot, the photographer described how a session in Amsterdam was cancelled after the band got into a fight with Chelsea fans on the ferry crossing.

The book also features commentary and insights from Noel Gallagher, whose present day reflections put those candid moments in context. In a promotional quote for the book, Gallagher said: “This book really brings those early years back to me. Kevin’s photographs captured us at the very beginning. This is a must-have book for every Oasis fan.”

Oasis: The Masterplan is on sale now with an RRP of £35, though it is available for less from various retailers. Fan responses to Cummins through his social media were positive, with one X user saying, “Some lovely snaps! Good job you had a camera on you!” With fewer than 100 days until Oasis kick off their reunion tour, this book is almost certain to build even more excitement.

The reformed Oasis will perform 41 shows later this year, including a homecoming Manchester leg, as well as a seven nights at the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium. Joining them will be the Verve frontman, Richard Ashcroft, who was announced as one of two support acts for the UK and Ireland shows, with the other being indie band Cast. Upon being announced as a supporting artist, Ashcroft said, “As a fan from day one, I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’s return was announced. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real, and I will always remember those days with joy.” Cage the Elephant are the only other support band that has been announced so far, opening up nine shows on the tour’s North American leg.    

Liam Gallagher has responded to the NME  article, posting on his X account: “NME tell me who your source pots are that keep giving you info about OASIS and I’ll give you an exclusive interview about up n coming OASIS tour you can have it all but how much do you want it.” A fan responded to his post asking if it really mattered with the tour only four months away, to which Liam cryptically replied, “That’s what broke Oasis up before.”

The return of Bonehead has been well-received, though the choice of Joey Waronker as drummer has been met with mixed feelings. Fans had been expecting a returning drummer from a previous lineup, such as Tony McCarroll, Alan White, or Zak Starkey. Questions have been asked about Waronker’s style gelling with the Oasis sound, though he did play with Liam Gallagher and John Squire on their 2024 album and subsequent tour.

Given the excitement around the potential lineup for one of the summer’s biggest music events, fans were flocking to Liam Gallagher’s X page to ask the singer for more details. He stated that the band would start rehearsing their material in June, just a month before their tour kicks off in Cardiff. This will be the first time that Bonehead has played with Oasis since 1999, though he has remained close to Liam, performing with Beady Eye and joining him on various solo tours in the years since. 

This has been a busy few weeks for Oasis fans, with lots to be excited about. It was revealed last week that the brothers had established a company with the purpose of developing a documentary of the upcoming tour. For now, though, the band remains quiet about both the lineup and the new business, refusing to confirm anything.

A spokesperson for Ticketmaster has addressed the issue, saying: “Anyone who has been contacted and believes a refund was made in error has been sent a form to fill in for the tour’s promoters to review.” However, fans going through the form to appeal their refund and get their tickets back encountered issues with error messages, leaving them to contact customer support again.

X user, ‘@lostinmusic72’, posted a screenshot of the email from Ticketmaster, informing them of the decision to refund the ticket. The ticketing platform claimed that the refund had been requested by the band’s tour promoter, and that they had violated the conditions under which the tickets were purchased. The same X user had gone through the presale process, which required customers to correctly answer a question about the first Oasis drummer and should have further proven that they were not a bot.

The 2025 tour is being promoted by SJM concerts and Live Nation, with the latter also being the owner of Ticketmaster. Prices for the shows started at around £150, but due to dynamic pricing, some fans were being charged upwards of £350 for the same tickets. The public backlash has led to calls for further transparency in ticket pricing, with the original price and dynamic price being displayed side by side, as well as the government planning a consultation for autumn.   

Oasis issued a statement on the issue, saying: “”When unprecedented ticket demand is combined with technology that cannot cope with that demand, it becomes less effective and can lead to an unacceptable experience for fans.” The band would later confirm that the same pricing model wouldn’t be applied to the North American leg of the tour, as well as distancing themselves from the decision. “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management.”  The band also changed the ticketing policy for their subsequently announced Wembley shows, opting for a staggered approach instead.

Despite the backlash and Ticketmaster’s central role, some online defend the platform, arguing that it only provides the feature as an option rather than enforcing it. A report by The Sun found that dynamic pricing adjusts costs based on demand, creating an uncertainty in the customer. Sir Chris Bryant, Minister for Creative Industries, said that uncertainty pressures fans into panic-buying, fearful of missing out.  

The panic spread across to Reddit too, with the subreddit r/Oasis being flooded with anxious fans checking their emails, hoping not to receive an email with a refund confirmation. The subreddit also saw criticism aimed at Ticketmaster for acting so late, suggesting that anybody using bots would have bought the tickets and sold them on by now, with real fans being the ones missing out.

Oasis, their management, or their promoters have yet to comment on the issue. Fans who until this week thought they would be attending this once-in-a-lifetime experience, were falsely accused of being ‘bots’ and forced to request a reissue of their ticket through an error-prone online form. With a summer of shows and festivals around the corner, the government’s autumn consultation may not come soon enough.

According to a source speaking to The Sun, “Liam’s just returned from a boozy holiday and now plans to be in lock-down for the foreseeable to focus on getting fit for the tour. He is planning on being sober ahead of and on tour with Oasis. He’s actually used cutting out booze to help him prepare and also to get through the shows before.”

Gallagher’s relationship with alcohol has long been a subject of intrigue. Reflecting on his past, Liam revealed that he stopped drinking before going on stage after his erratic performances at Wembley in 2000. In a 2018 interview with GQ Australia, he candidly admitted to the challenges of staying sober:

“I booze it – don’t really do much of the other stuff, no goodies anymore, not proper stuff… I certainly can’t drink before I go on stage or a night before. The voice don’t handle that anymore. I’m 44 now, so it’s like, get a good night’s kip, get out for a run in the morning. Get to the gig. Do the gig. Give the people what they want. And then, it’s my time. I’ll never be fucking sober. Well, I’ll be sober – I’ve been sober for six months once there before, and it’s fucked. Being sober drove me to drink.”

Despite his past skepticism about sobriety, Liam seems committed to embracing a healthier lifestyle ahead of the reunion. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, Gallagher found himself exploring spirituality, something he credits with helping him manage his often chaotic rockstar lifestyle. Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked, “How did you get so spiritual?” Liam’s typical no-nonsense response was left up to interpretation but hinted at his journey toward self-improvement. When asked by a fan if he misses his days of excessive drinking, Liam kept it simple with a one-word reply on Twitter: “No.”

The Oasis Live ’25 Tour is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events of the year. Kicking off on July 4 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, the tour will move on to five nights at Manchester’s Heaton Park and eight at London’s Wembley Stadium. Notably, the band will not be taking the tour to continental Europe, focusing instead on select cities in the UK, Ireland, and North America. The limited number of dates and the band’s long absence have made tickets some of the most coveted in recent memory.

The bill seeks to tackle controversial ticketing practices, including dynamic pricing, which allows ticket prices to surge based on demand. This issue gained prominence following the sale of Oasis reunion tour tickets earlier this year, where some fans paid upwards of £400 for tickets with a face value of less than £150. Ticketmaster’s use of dynamic pricing during the sale sparked significant backlash, with critics accusing the platform of exploiting fans, and has led to some negativity around the tour.

The proposed law would require ticket sellers to provide clear pricing and availability information to consumers waiting in online queues. It would also mandate that the final sale price be printed on tickets. Failure to comply could result in fines under the proposed legislation, though the specifics will be altered and narrowed as it makes it way through the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

Speaking to the AP, Huq described the bill as a “consumer protection measure” designed to prevent fans from facing hidden charges or inflated costs. Addressing criticism from some Conservative MPs, she argued that the bill does not represent “state interference” but instead will stop any “nasty surprises”.

The bill passed its first reading in the House of Commons on October 16. However, the delay in its second reading has led to accusations of political stalling. The European Union (Withdrawal Arrangements) Bill, which was debated for nearly five hours on Friday, occupied the entire session, leaving no time for the Sale of Tickets Bill to be discussed.   

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy reacted positively to the proposed bill, and pointed to an ongoing government consultation on ticketing practices. She stated that the government is committed to putting fans “at the heart of ticketing” and will consider reforms based on the consultation’s findings. She also made a point of saying that it is a matter of when, not if.

The Oasis ticketing scandal is just one example of why the bill’s supporters say reform is needed. It has been used since 2022, and acts like Harry Styles have used the model. Bruce Springsteen’s 2023 tour also saw controversy, with dynamic pricing leading to tickets being sold for as much as $4,000. Artists like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and The Cure have since pledged not to use the pricing model.

This is not just a UK issue. Dutch MEP Lara Wolters, who supports stricter regulation of ticket pricing, has called for similar reforms across Europe. She argues that existing practices unfairly benefit platforms like Ticketmaster at the expense of fans. 

The bill, if passed, would build upon existing measures under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. These include requirements for secondary sellers to disclose seat locations, face values, and restrictions on resale tickets. The new legislation aims to go further by adding greater transparency and accountability in ticket sales.

Support for the bill extends beyond Westminster. Editor of DJ Mag, Carl Loben, is among those backing stricter regulation of ticket pricing, tweeting Huq on the morning of the hearing with encouragement.

The delay in Parliament will frustrate some, including those who had to choose between paying inflated prices, or missing out altogether. For now, all eyes are on January 17, when the bill is expected to return to the Commons.

James was referring to Blur’s 2023 reunion, which included two sold-out Wembley Stadium concerts and the release of their latest album, The Ballad of Darren. Despite initially planning a hiatus at the end of 2023, Blur extended their comeback to headline Coachella 2024 after reportedly making the decision in just five minutes. Their Wembley shows drew 150,000 fans, and was released as an album this summer, proving that Britpop’s legacy remains strong.

Moyles pressed James further, asking whether Blur’s success inspired Liam and Noel Gallagher to reunite. James responded diplomatically, noting the difficulty of maintaining relationships in bands, especially between siblings. “I’m always reading statistics about how many marriages end in divorce… They’re brothers as well. I’m genuinely delighted for them, and I genuinely won’t be going.”  

James’ comments come against the backdrop of Blur and Oasis’ definitive rivalry, which peaked in 1995 when Blur’s ‘Country House’ and Oasis’ ‘Roll With It’ famously went head-to-head for the number-one spot on the UK charts. Oasis mocked Blur’s victory at the time, but decades later, the relationship between the bands appears to have mellowed. Liam Gallagher even tweeted in October 2024, “I love Blur and at some point we need to do an old dears tour.”

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree seems to echo this newfound camaraderie. Speaking after his defeat in the 2024 General Election, where he ran as Labour’s candidate for Mid Sussex, Rowntree said he’d be first in line for Oasis tickets. Guitarist Graham Coxon, in an interview with The Sun, praised the reunion, calling it “good for them and good for fans.”

Damon Albarn, Blur’s frontman, has remained silent on the topic since Oasis announced their tour. However, in summer 2023, he confidently predicted the reunion, saying the path for it was clear. 

Oasis’ reunion, announced in August 2024, has generated massive demand. Tickets for their 14-date tour sold out almost instantly, though controversy erupted over Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing, with some fans paying as much as £350 per ticket. Labour MP Rupa Huq has brought the issue to Parliament, with the second hearing of a proposed bill addressing ticket pricing set for tomorrow.

Blur and Oasis both capitalised on nostalgia as a driving force behind their comebacks. With streaming revenue dwindling in the music industry, reunions offer bands a lucrative alternative to releasing new music. Reports suggest that the Gallaghers could earn over £50 million each from the tour, which is expected to gross £400 million.

For fans, these reunions offer a chance to relive the 1990s—a golden age defined by the rise of Britpop. As Blur’s Wembley success proved, audiences are still eager to connect with the music that shaped a generation. And with Oasis’ last performance dating back 15 years, the reunion opens the door for a new generation of fans to experience their music live.

While James’ “genuinely won’t be going” remark hints that not all rivalries are fully buried, the Oasis reunion represents a moment of celebration for fans and a symbolic end to one of Britpop’s fiercest feuds.

Gallagher’s solo set at Wembley was his first appearance on-stage since Oasis announced their reunion with a 2025 tour, more than fifteen years since their disbandment. It is clear Gallagher was attempting to hit the heart-strings of nostalgic Oasis fans by performing a three-song setlist from the band’s iconic 1994 release ‘Definitely Maybe’, with a setlist comprised of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’.

 As the 96,000 attendees witnessed the performance and many of us tuned in at home, fans of the Oasis frontman have criticised the performance, questioning the extortionate amounts of money they had spent to see the band on their upcoming tour, with some fans threatening to put their tickets up for re-sale.

 It is understandable that many fans have been left disheartened after the performance, especially given the trials needed to buy an Oasis ticket alongside Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing.

 This once in a lifetime tour proves the timelessness of Oasis’ music for many generations. However, its existence highlights the necessary sonic shifts needed for a band, who are no longer performing in their twenties, to capture a moment in 1990s Britpop in 2024 and 2025. Observers and critics alike need to view Gallagher’s latest performance at Wembley as a clever and well-spirited attempt to excite fans awaiting the tour.

In true Liam Gallagher spirit, the singer failed to submit to such negative comments and decided to clap back at his critics online.

In a post on social media platform X, Gallagher slammed the “IMPOSTERS” who bashed his performance, claiming they could not be “real fans”, if they did not appreciate his “ANGELIC TONES”.

Gallagher has used this spout of negativity to reframe expectations ahead of Oasis’ upcoming tour, suggesting such critics were not welcome at their shows by sarcastically offering to take their tickets off their hands for them.

Other fans have shown their support for Gallagher, inferring the TV production utilised for the fight did not successfully capture the true ambience present at a Liam Gallagher gig.

Gallagher’s response to such criticisms perhaps indicates an intention for artists to protect their authentic artistry and remain unscathed from unwarranted negativity. Despite the controversy of Gallagher’s latest performance, the 2025 Oasis tour remains one of the most sought after gigs in the twenty-first century.
