Knight, the producer of the documentary, sat down with Project Big Screen recently as part of press for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. During the interview, he was asked for updates on the Oasis Live ’25 film. Details on the project have been scarce since its announcement almost one year ago exactly, in March 2025. But Knight told Project Big Screen simply, “it’s phenomenal.” See the entire interview clip below.

Knight goes on to tease that the film has been edited down to four hours, and will continue to go through edits to achieve a more cinema-standard runtime. He emphasised its narrative saying, “it’s a documentary with a plot” and that the production team has actually “expanded [the story].” He says fans will “see when you see it,” to find out just what this expansion entails.

Speaking on the process of making the film, Knight said, “it’s been great, and [the Gallagher brothers are] great.” Knight interviewed them both for the documentary, saying of it, “they’re just one quote after another,” and “they’re just so funny.”

Other excitement about the upcoming film comes from Noel Gallagher himself, just after his BRIT Award win for Songwriter of the Year in February. He said, “Everyone who has seen it, or seen more of it than I have, has said that it’s amazing. If it even captures five per cent of what that tour was, it’ll be astonishing. Looking forward to it.”

Previously, a source claimed that in documentary footage, “Liam and Noel have never been seen in such an open and vulnerable way” and veiwers will be “spellbound.” What is known for sure is that the crew followed Oasis as they made preparations for their historic comeback, and through the Oasis Live ’25 Tour. The tour marked the band’s first live appearance since their split in 2009, so it’s anticipated that the film will cover the band’s journey back to the stage.

Also, fans have been asked to contribute memories for the film. Manga Studios, the studio behind the documentary, made an appeal last June: “We are asking people all over the world if there is a particular Oasis song that has deep meaning for you. A song that tells the story of a life changing moment, a love, a loss, a heartbreak, or a break for freedom.” There is no word yet on how these contributions will appear in the film.

While Knight is credited as the film’s creator and producer, it is directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace. The duo’s past directorial credits include LCD Soundsystem’s Shut Up and Play the Hits, and Meet Me In The Bathroom, the 2022 indie rock documentary. There is no release date set and no official title yet revealed, but the documentary is expected to arrive in 2026.

The move is reportedly an attempt to control the film’s direction, as they also did with 2021’s ‘Oasis Knebworth 1996’. That previous documentary was released under their still-existing company, Kosmic Kyte Ltd, which also lists co-manager Kyle McKinley as a person officer. Uprise North Ltd lists only the two brothers as officers, suggesting more control, or a change behind the scenes.

The Sun secured exclusive quotes from a source close to the situation, who claimed that streaming giants had expressed an interest in acquiring the rights to produce a documentary on the same subject. “They had endless offers from companies wanting to make and distribute their ­comeback film but by opening this new company, they appear to be taking total control”.  

Neither Gallagher has addressed the speculation head-on, however Liam has responded to fans on X. Responding to a question about an upcoming documentary ending up on Netflix, the singer said, “We’re not doing one.” Some took this as a cryptic message, hinting at more than one film or documentary in the works.  

The Oasis Live ‘25 tour was announced last year, and will see the band perform 41 confirmed shows worldwide. Among the tour dates are seven nights at Wembley Arena, and five more at Manchester’s Heaton Park. Even with multiple dates in the US, Australia, and more around the globe, the tour is dwarfed in scale by their previous tours supporting the albums ‘Definitely Maybe’ and ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’, which saw them perform 142 and 101 shows, respectively. Despite this, the 2025 shows will have an unprecedented cultural significance considering fans had been crying out for a reunion for 15 years.

The tour announcement hasn’t been without its issues, however. From the infamous dynamic pricing debacle, which led to accusations of price gouging, and more recently, an automated system mistakenly labelling genuine fans as bots, and refunding them their hard-earned tickets.

As fans on the r/Oasis subreddit pointed out, reunion documentaries are nothing new, and live albums often follow. Blur’s 2023 reunion saw them perform two shows at Wembley, with footage used in a documentary, and a live album released a year later. 

Though nothing is confirmed, the Companies House website records clearly show that something is happening. As The Sun’s source put it, “Noel and Liam set the narrative from the start on their comeback, and they want to be in control of whatever ­happens during and after the shows. It has been a very long time coming, and they do not want to disappoint.”

In a statement, Liam called the concert “the Woodstock of the 90’s. It was all about the music and the people. I can’t remember much about it, but I’ll never forget it. It was Biblical“. Noel added: “I can’t believe we never played ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!’“.
The movie, directed by Grammy winner Jake Scott, will hit cinemas worldwide on the 23rd of September and will show: “concert & exclusive never before seen footage (…) through the eyes of the fans who were there“.

The film is: “a joyful and at times poignant cinematic celebration of one of the most iconic live concert events of the last 25 years, driven entirely by the music, and the fans’ own experiences of that monumental weekend” explains the press release.
“Oasis Knebworth 1996” has been produced by Black Dog Films, with the Gallagher brothers being executive producers.
Oasis last live show was almost 12 years ago, therefore the new documentary is an amazing treat for the fans and a great legacy of the iconic British rock group.

The documentary is “the story of the special relationship between Oasis and their fans that made the largest concert of the ‘90’s possible. It is told entirely in the moment through the eyes of the fans who were there, built around extensive, and never before seen archive concert and backstage footage from the event, with additional interviews with the band and concert organisers.”
