Kendal Calling Festival is set to return to the picturesque Lake District in Cumbria this year with another star-studded line-up. Hosted in Lowther Deer Park, the three-day event will be back on the first weekend of August with jampacked stages expected to delight indie and rock fans. Noel Gallagher, The Streets and Paolo Nutini have been unveiled as headliners, with many more iconic names joining them on the bill, as well as a surprise DJ set from football legend Gary Neville.

In terms of Weekend Tickets, the festival is now down to its final release, with its fifth and sixth release selling out within an eye-watering 24 hours. There has been an incredible demand this year, with over 25,000 festival-goers eager to escape to the fields this summer. Fans can also expect knock-out sets from Sugababes, Katy B, Declan McKenna, SHY FX, Sundara Karma, The Snuts and Pale Waves. Last year, Kendal was headlined by Kasabian, Royal Blood, Blossoms, and Nile Rodgers.

With over 10 stages and 120 performers to choose from, it’s not only the fans that appear to be excited, but the artists themselves. Nutini tweeted: “We are buzzing to be playing this years @KendalCalling in the Lake District.”

Andy Smith, Kendal Calling co-founder, wrote in a statement: “After the week we have had, bring on the summer! It is with much joy and excitement we share with you today the biggest Kendal Calling line-up to date. From the incredible Paolo Nutini closing the Sunday night and Keane, Sugababes, Paul Heaton & Rianne Downey and Katy B gracing our fields for the first time, joined by old friends Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds and The Streets closing the Friday and Saturday night respectively, we have the perfect ingredients for a fantastically celebratory weekend. But as ever the most important ingredient is YOU – and we can’t wait to see you in the fields x”

The weekend showcases a variety of regional, national and international musical talent, but also has an emerging, vibrant arts scene. For festival first-timers, the Kendal Calling team have compiled the ultimate festival survival guide, outlining all of the best food spots, art installations, secret gardens and attractions to hit in-between sets, including ‘Tim Peak’s Cafe’, ‘Lost Eden’, ‘Oktoberfest’ and ‘Parklands': “Whatever you do over KC weekend, whether you’re dashing from act to act, chilling out with a pint in the woods, or simply kicking back with a tin at camp – we know you’re going to have the most amazing time – nothing can beat the reunion of our festival family for the first time in three years! See you in the fields!”

Kendal Calling Festival will be held between August 1-4 2024. Tickets are on sale now and available here.

In what appears to be a never-ending saga, ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has allegedly slammed his brother Noel and Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn on X (formerly known as Twitter) for their performance together this month. Replying to a video posted by @OasisMania of the pair performing the hit song ‘DARE’, Gallagher took it upon himself to comment “What a bunch of C***S”.

The video was captured in December 2015 at a 60th birthday party for Paul Simonon, the bassist from The Clash, who also features in the performance. Noel can be seen singing the vocal that was originally recorded by the Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder while playing guitar, with Albarn and Simonon accompanying him.

http://www.mxdwn.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/96ca6c32-3393-470a-a942-bcf08946726c.mp4

The fabled singer-songwriter released his latest single ‘Just Another Rainbow‘ earlier this month, and is more active on the social media site than ever before: insulting and berating his brother, replying to fans, calling out trolls and creating a tornado of comedic pop culture commentary on a daily basis, most of which of course, is completely daft.

Now 30 years on since Oasis skyrocketed to fame, the brothers still find themselves in the midst of a heated feud, one that doesn’t always seem to be reciprocated. Liam claims he has still not seen, let alone had any form of contact with brother Noel since the day of the split.

Oasis established themselves as Britpop powerhouses in the 90s with early singles like ‘Supersonic’, ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Whatever’, going on to take the music industry by storm. The band announced their split in August 2009 after a backstage bust-up at their final concert at Rock En Seine Festival in Paris. As the duo prepared to go on stage, an argument ensued, causing Liam to wield Noel’s guitar around ‘like an axe’.

Liam’s tell-all 2019 Netflix documentary ‘As It Was’ revealed many of the untold ins and outs of the infamous rivalry between the brothers, his family life, and how his career has shifted over the past decade. After failing to get Beady Eye off the ground immediately after the split, Gallagher has since rode the wave of a successful solo career, with Noel indulging in his own musical project, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Fans are still waiting with bated breath in the hope of a reunion some day, but it may be a day that will never come. Rumours began to circulate again in March 2023 that the brothers might reunite after Liam responded to a fan on Twitter who asked if there’s a “small percentage that Oasis get back together,” Liam simply replied: “It’s happening.”

“He’s got my number, he’s got my manager number. Call us”

When questioned about the statement by a French media outlet, Noel commented: “He should get his people to call my people to call my people. They know who they are. They know who we are. He’s got my manager’s number. Call us. But you know what? He won’t call. Stop talking on the f***ing internet and let’s see what you’ve got to say.”

Other fans have speculated that the duo may return to Knebworth in Hertfordshire this year for a legendary stint of live gigs, but with no healing of the rift in sight, it’s pure gossip at this point.

The event will kick off on Monday, March 18, with The Who, backed by an orchestra, and special guests Squeeze. There will be a night of comedy on Tuesday, March 19, with the full line-up to be announced soon, and Wednesday, March 20 will see The Who and Squeeze welcomed back to the Royal Albert Hall for the second time. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will then perform on Thursday, March 21, along with indie rock special guests Blossoms.

Friday, March 22 will see Scottish progressive hip-hop group Young Fathers kick off the weekend, followed by a headline Saturday show from The Chemical Brothers, alongside DJ James Holroyd, on March 23. The week-long fundraising extravaganza will conclude on Sunday, March 24 with an Ovation, bringing together the likes of Roger Daltrey, Kelly Jones, Paul Weller, Robert Plant, Pete Townshend and Eddie Vedder to commemorate 24 successful years of performing live music for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The celebrations come with a hint of sadness, however, as this year’s event will see Roger Daltrey stepping down from his role as curator for the Teenage Cancer Trust annual concerts. Since starting in 2000, performing at the first live Teenage Cancer Trust gig with his band, The Who frontman Daltrey has been at the centre of every annual celebration. He has unceasingly inspired countless musicians to come together and perform for a very special cause year upon year, and he will now allow a series of guest curators to take up the task.

Noel Gallagher, on the positive impact the Teenage Cancer Trust has had, said, ‘The TCT continue to make a real difference to teenagers in what undoubtedly must be the most challenging years of their lives. Having performed at the very first event back in 2000 it is a charity very close to my heart. 24 years and counting is a triumph in itself. NGHFB will be there en masse. Together we will make the night unique. I’d buy a ticket if I were you.”

Tickets go on sale from 9am Friday January 12 and will be available to purchase here.

The 55-year-old rock star and his band are set to headline big festivals in the summer, including PennFest, Splendour Festival, On The Beach Brighton Festival, Hardwick Festival and the Rock N Roll Circus. His upcoming shows will be among Gallagher’s first performances since his career-spanning set which he performed at Glastonbury festival in 2022, on the pyramid stage. The band also announced a USA tour, which consists of 26-dates.

The announcement of the tour came after the release of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Bird’s latest single, ‘’Dead to the world.’’ The single has been released prior to Noel Gallagher’s forthcoming album release, Council Skies, which is his fourth studio album release with his High Flying Birds. The album is set to debut Friday June 2. ‘’Easy Now’’ and ‘Pretty Boy’’ are the other two songs already released from the album.

Whilst speaking about his brand new song, ‘’Dead to the world’’, Gallagher said the single is ‘’by some distance my favourite tune on the album. It has this film noir vibe. It’s not like anything else I’ve ever done before. It’s very melancholic, but I like that. I’m a Gemini – I’m as up as I am down, and the trick is to meet somewhere in the middle and turn that into music.”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Bird’s have been confirmed to headline Brighton’s On the Beach outdoor festival this summer. The concert is set to take place Sunday 30 July. The Brit-pop icon will be supported by fellow British rock bands The Coral, the Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes and The Vaccines. The On the Beach 2023 series will be attended by thousands of music fans in July, on one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic coastal settings.

The mancunian legend is best known for his work in the band, Oasis, with his brother Liam Gallagher. He has developed a strong fan base throughout his successful career within the music industry and is now primarily focused on his rock band, High Flying Birds, which was formed in 2010. The band consists of former oasis members, Guitarist Gem Archer, Pianist Mike Rowe and Drummer Chris Sharrock. The group also has former Zuton’s band member, Russell Pritchard, who plays bass. On a Jonathan Ross interview in 2011, supporting his first studio album with the band, Noel confirmed that the name of the band was inspired by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac album and Jefferson Airplane’s song ‘’High Flying Birds.’’

Oasis split up in 2009 after an altercation between brothers Noel and Liam at the French Festival, Rock en Seine. Fans across the country have been calling on the feuding brothers in desperation for the band to come together for a reunion tour and when asked if an Oasis reunion will ever be on the cards, on BBC Radio Manchester earlier this year, Noel said ‘’You should never say never’’ but added ‘’It would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances, but that’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about.’’

Liam has also been vocal about his views on an Oasis Reunion. In a 2022 interview with The Times, saying, ‘’I’d love Oasis to get back together. If it happens, it happens.’’ He also added ‘’we should never have split up, but we did, and this is where we’re at.’’ In another part of the interview, he explained “We split up nearly 13 years ago. It’s ridiculous. We can go on about whose fault it is, but he’s his own man. If he really wanted to get in contact, for my mum’s sake, he could do it, but he obviously doesn’t want to. There are only so many olive branches you can offer.”

On June 2nd, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are set to release their fourth studio album Council Skies. Two singles from the album have already been released, ‘’Pretty Boy’’ and ‘’Easy Now.’’ This album is the follow-up to his most recent album release, which debuted in 2017, Who Built The Moon? Self-titled album Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Bird’s (2011) and Chasing Yesterday (2015) are the band’s previously released studio albums. When speaking about the upcoming album, Noel Gallagher expressed his visions for the new release, “It’s going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be … that’s as true to me now as it was in the early 90’s.’’

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will perform at the On The Beach Sunday event on July 30 2023. The tickets go on sale Friday 24 February at 10am. To access pre-sale tickets for the event, click here.

Noel Gallagher has shared a demo of a new song entitled “Trying To Find A World That’s Been And Gone: Part I” ahead of the next High Flying Birds album. The song is available via all streaming services and is also available via YouTube. See the link below to listen.

Gallagher revealed in a message to fans signed up to his mailing list that he had completed the writing process of his new album, saying: “So we didn’t actually get there in the end did we?” “I finished writing/demoing the next NGHFB album about 10 days ago. Thought you might wanna hear this little piece which – like last year’s offering – sounds quite appropriate for this New Year’s Day…Hope you had THE BEST night (as much as was allowed anyway) and hopefully we’ll catch up somewhere in the summer.”

The demo is just shy of three minutes long, and is largely dominated by a wistful, folksy acoustic guitar part whilst a hazy, droning synthesiser purrs gently in the background. Later on, following Gallagher’s first utterance of the chorus lyrics: “You give me the will to carry on, in a place where I belong, As we try to find a world that’s been and gone”, an emotive string section rises out of the mist to contrast the melancholy of the first half of the tune.

Noel Gallagher revealed earlier this week that he is going to be documenting the recording process of his new album on film. You can read more about this here.

The former Oasis singer-songwriter also recently appeared on the Matt Morgan Podcast, where he stated that he is planning to record the album this month. According to NME, he said of the songs: “One is one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever written, it’s got great chords and it’s very, very sad…In the verses the music is quite sad and the sentiment in the verses is quite strong, but in the chorus the music is quite uplifting and the words are quite sad. It’s a fucking great song.”

Gallagher will also be embarking on a UK tour in the summer of this year. Tickets are available here, and the dates are listed down below.

Noel Gallagher has confirmed that he is filming the recording and production of his upcoming High Flying Birds album. The singer has stated that he will document the process at the famous Abbey Road Studios but will adopt a different approach than the recent docu-series ‘The Beatles: Get Back’.

The 54-year-old artist recently spoke about his new venture during an interview on The Matt Morgan Podcast. During the conversation, Gallagher stated the cameras will capture the “Magic Moments” of the former Oasis bandmember and the group as they work on their hotly anticipated release.

Speaking on the process of the new release, Gallagher confirmed that the album was written and the group would begin to record the material next month. The Britpop icon went on to confirm that he had composed several acoustic ballads. The singer continued to speak on the album’s progress with Morgan, “One is one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever written, it’s got great chords and it’s very, very sad. In the verses the music is quite sad and the sentiment in the verses is quite strong, but in the chorus the music is quite uplifting and the words are quite sad. It’s a fucking great song.” Gallagher continued to discuss the group’s new material, “I started writing the album in January and I thought if I get it finished by the week leading up to Christmas it’ll be great. I actually finished it with one day to spare. I’ll start recording properly on January 20.”

Gallagher continued to state that the project will be different from Peter Jackson’s celebrated Disney-docu-series. Unlike the recent The Beatles documentary, the singer has confirmed that his writing process will not be recorded as he does not deem the practice interesting for the audience. The musician proceeded to expand on his comment, “Me writing, once you’ve seen it for an hour, then you’ve seen it, They’re The Beatles and Paul McCartney is writing ‘Get Back’ and I’m writing a record which, frankly, with the best will of the world, not a lot of people are going to give a shit about. Me noodling away on the same five chords I’ve been using all my life going, ‘Sunshine, through the rain, can’t buy fame . . . ’, it’s not got the same gravitas.”

Within the podcast, Gallagher also revealed that a classic track from the back catalogue of Oasis served as inspiration for his group’s new release. The singer stated that “Talk Tonight” sparked the inspiration for the group’s follow-up release from the 2017 album Who Built The Moon?. The track was originally released on 24th April 1995 and was released as a B-Side for the megahit “Some Might Say”. The track was written and sung by Noel Gallagher and was later included within the 1998 compilation album The Masterplan.

In other news, fans will be able to catch Gallagher live next year when the singer embarks on his UK tour. The series of Summer concerts begin with a headlining set at the In It Together festival held in Wales. The month-long tour comes to a close with a performance in Bristol on 22nd June 2022.

The comical pair’s new radio show will start on Sunday 8th August 2021 from 7 pm until 9 pm and will run throughout this August every Sunday night. This is not the duo’s first time presenting, Gallagher and Morgan will bring their broadcasting experience and skills from Morgan’s podcast to their new radio series. The podcast titled ‘Matt Morgan’s Funny How?’ sees Morgan joined by special guests each episode, the host and guests engage in a comical QA type of interview which explores whimsical and pop culture fuelled questions. Gallagher has been a guest on the comedian’s podcast several times and joined his long-term friend on the podcast’s first episode, aired on 13th January 2020.

Gallagher and Morgan’s new radio show will no doubt be full of laughs and honest conversation and will see “Noel and Matt setting the world to rights”, the show will also be available to watch on-demand via Global Player. The new series will also feature some specially curated music by Gallagher, the former Oasis member will pick a collection of his favourite music to include within the new Radio X show. Similar to Morgan’s podcast series, the radio series will also feature a QA segment which will see the duo answer questions from fans.

The Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds founder has provided the following description of what listeners can expect from Radio X’s new series, “You lucky little indie kids are getting the pleasure of mine and the thinking man’s fuddy-duddy Matt Morgan’s company for a Residency. You’ll be hearing some great tunes, and a lot of nonsense, being spouted mostly by me! Tune in… you might learn summat. NG.”

Managing Editor for the radio network has also spoken on the exciting news, in the following statement, Matt Deverson describes the station’s history with the musician and hails Gallagher and Morgan for their distinctive manner, “Whether it be through Oasis or the 10 years of his High Flying Birds, Noel Gallagher’s music is part of the fabric of Radio X, and I’m delighted that the man himself will be hosting a show on the station. He’s teamed up with his good mate Matt Morgan, and as a man who’s never short of a word to say, I can’t wait to hear them put the world to rights in their own unique style, as well as pick some of their favourite tunes. Noel Gallagher really does live on Radio X.”

Radio X has been a staple within the alternative and Indie music scene since its inception in 1992, the station was formally known as Xfm until 21st September 2015 when the network was rebranded to Radio X. One of the station’s founders, Sammy Jacob, would go on to co-create NME Radio in 2008 and in 2015 Jacob founded CDNX (Camden Experience), the radio service which celebrates Camden’s heritage and music. Once the station was rebranded to Radio X, the network gained a collection of well-known new presenters such as Chris Moyles, Ricky Wilson, Johnny Vaughan and Vernon Kay, who recently participated in the British reality TV show, ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’. The arrival of Radio X was fully confirmed by the 2004 Girls Aloud track ‘Love Machine’, which was the first song to be played on the new station at 7 am on 21st September 2021 on Chris Moyles’ show.

Radio X is broadcasted on 104.9 FM in London, 97.7 FM in Manchester and is available to listen to across the UK on DAB digital radio services. The network shows are also available to view on Global Player, the free and downloadable media player on any iOS and Android device.
Included in the album’s Vinyl sales, was the limited-edition vinyl which was released especially for this year’s Record Store Day. The singer also has a personal connection with Record Store Day, Noel Gallagher was recently announced as the ambassador of the event, a position in which the singer has taken to heart.

The former Oasis member has teased some details concerning his next release, the singer-songwriter has spoken within an interview stating he wants the material to be ‘More acoustic’.

Gallagher recently gave a revealing interview to The New Cue concerning his lockdown life and what his new material may sound like. In the interview Gallagher is asked if he wrote any songs during Lockdown, The ‘Supersonic’ writer responded stating how the COVID lockdown increased his creative productivity and confirmed that lockdown fuelled the idea for the Greatest Hits album, ‘Back the Way We Came” Vol 1 (2011- 2021)‘ released 11th June 2021.

Gallagher full reply was. “In the first three months, I think I wrote more songs in that period than I would ever have done which is where the idea of the Best Of came from. I don’t think it’d be coming out if it wasn’t for lockdown. It was a chance to get in the studio and do some some songs that I’d nearly completed that I thought were alright for a Best Of.”

Gallagher was then questioned concerning his next album, to which he replied: “Luckily I’ve got this place finished so all the stuff that I’d written I’m kind of in the process of putting it all together. I’d say I’ve got about four or five new tunes which are all in the demo stage, but they’re really good, really varied as well. So creatively it’s been alright.”

The interview began to dig deeper into the singer’s future plans, asking if the new songs which feature on the singer’s recent best-of album are an indication of a new album complete with new material. It is here that Gallagher disclosed his plans to record music unplugged this time. “It’s leaning to be more acoustic, actually. There will be more acoustic tracks on it than I would do and the reason for that is that I did those EPs the year before last and I was in that frame of mind to something electronic. If I hadn’t done that, my next album would have been like those EPs. So that’s given me a thing to react against. It’s more acoustic and a lot slower paced and bit more atmospheric. It’s good, though. Really good. There’s some bangers on there as well.”

Gallagher took to Twitter on the release date of his best of album, ‘Back the Way We Came” Vol 1 (2011- 2021)‘, within the post he celebrates the album’s release. The singer also appears to send a somewhat cryptic message to his fans, stating ‘Blimey.. just think of all the things I COULD have done in that time!‘.

The older Gallagher brother has not only been discussing his music this week but has also spoken out about his views of COVID-19. The ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ singer has stated how the pandemic is ‘classless’ and that ‘everybody’s in the same boat’. In the interview the musician presents a type of unified front, stating he dislikes the positive outlook in which celebrities have presented which he seemingly finds to be fake. In the interview with the Manchester Evening News, he further states how everyone has been suffering through the crisis and predicts a long way until we can gain normality.
