Previously announced was an expansive run of North American dates beginning on June 12 in Orlando, Florida, spanning across the States and ducking into Canada. The run includes four sold-out nights at Fenway Park in Boston, as well as nights in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Minneapolis and many more major US cities. But, as the official information account for the singer said in their announcement post, “you thought he was done!” Kahan has added 21 international dates to his 2026 tour.

In September, Kahan will embark on The Great Divide World Tour with two nights in Melbourne. The Australian/New Zealand leg will continue through October with nights in Sydney and Auckland.

The singer returns to the UK with two shows at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena on November 5 and 6. The singer is set up for a string of two-night sets at arenas across the nation. After Glasgow he will play two nights at the AO Arena in Manchester, then to London’s O2 Arena before capping off the UK/IE run at Dublin’s 3Arena on November 21 and 22.

From there, he will head through Europe on the final leg of the tour. Through December he will visit Zurich, Cologne, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Paris and Munich.

Support for the UK leg of the tour comes from New York native singer-songwriter, Bella Kay. Recently, Kay received her first career entry on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts with her single, ‘ILOVEITILOVEITILOVEIT.’

The Great Divide Tour will also continue Kahan’s philanthropic pursuits. A portion of every ticket sale will go towards The Busyhead Project, a mental health initiative founded by Kahan in 2023. The Busyhead Project aims at providing resources and information needed to end the stigma around mental health. According to the official site, $6.6 million has been raised for their work since 2023.

It was announced just last week that Kahan will appear on SNL (US) as the musical guest with host Matt Damon on May 9. Additionally, his documentary, Out of Body will come to Netflix April 13, just ahead of ‘The Great Divide.’ The documentary will see him reckon with his recent launch to fame as he returns back to his home state, Vermont. Kahan called the experience of being filmed for the documentary “weird, difficult, and genuinely beautiful.” He said he is looking forward to fans seeing it despite also being “nervous” about the more personal and “painful” things the documentary touches on. But, he said “anything scary or hard is usually worth sharing with the world” and he hopes that “it will reach [fans] in a time when [they] need it.”

American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan is headlining this Friday, July 4, with special guest Gracie Abrams, both of whom performed this past weekend at Glastonbury. Friday’s lineup also includes Finneas, Gigi Perez, Lily Fitts, Jo Hill, Sydney Rose, and Paris Paloma.

The final weekend of British Summer Time Hyde Park will take place next weekend, July 11-13. Headliners include Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts, Stevie Wonder, and Jeff Lynne’s ELO. 

The event is organized by AEG Europe, which has also found importance in taking environmental initiatives, as the concerts are held in a public park. The organization has made an effort to use only compostable serveware, locally sourced materials, noise management for surrounding areas in the center of a large city, a green team to monitor sustainability initiatives, and partnering with Lowr, allowing ticket holders to track their journeys and calculate their carbon footprint.

Blackweir Fields, located within Cardiff’s Bute Park, is a versatile open space known for hosting large-scale events with the capacity of 35,000. Noah Kahan comes all the way from Strafford, Vermont, and began his musical journey with the release of his debut EP, ‘Hurt Somebody’, in 2018. The title track, especially the duet version featuring Julia Michaels, achieved significant international success, charting globally and earning Gold status in the United States. This song blends folk-pop elements with raw and heartfelt lyrics, showcasing Kahan’s emotive vocal delivery and knack for creating emotional storytelling through lyrics. 

In 2019, Kahan released his debut album, ‘Busyhead’, which included tracks like ‘False Confidence’ and ‘Save Me’. This album continued to highlight his folk-pop style, characterised by introspective songwriting and melodic arrangements. His third album, ‘I Was / I Am’, followed in 2021, featuring songs such as ‘Godlight’ and ‘Someone Like You’, the latter a collaboration with Joy Oladokun who added beautiful countryesque vocals.  

However, 2023 marked a significant breakthrough for Kahan with the release of his single ‘Stick Season’. Inspired by the transitional period in Vermont between autumn and winter, the song resonated with a wide audience, capturing the feeling of change and uncertainty especially with the lyrics, “I hope this pain’s just passin’ through
But I doubt it”. Stick Season features acoustic-driven instrumentation, with a blend of folk and indie influences, and showcases Kahan’s vivid lyrical imagery. The track achieved considerable success, flooding all over social media and eventually reached the UK Top 10 in October 2023 and climbing to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart in January 2024 marking a significant breakthrough for Kahan in the UK music scene.  

Looking ahead, Kahan has an eventful year planned for 2025. In addition to the Cardiff performance, he is set to headline London’s Hyde Park on July 4, where he will be joined by singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams. Just days before, he will also take the stage in Dublin on July 1 for a massive show at Marlay Park. These performances further cement his growing popularity and status as a festival headliner. With a devoted fanbase and a signature sound that blends folk, pop, and indie influences, Kahan has established himself as one of the most compelling singer-songwriters of his generation.

ERA CEO Kim Barkley was featured on the company’s article revealing the figures:

“2024 was a banner year for music, with streaming and vinyl taking the sector to all-time-high records in both value and volume. This is the stunning culmination of music’s comeback which has seen sales more than double since their low point in 2013. We can now say definitively – music is back.”

And music is back, but the era of streaming doesn’t necessarily exclude great sales of CDs, vinyls and cassettes. CEO Kim Barkley in fact believes that the two go together, and says:

“With nearly 14% of revenues still coming from physical, music shows the benefits of having a mixed physical-digital ecology, we continue to believe that digital and physical channels are complementary and vital for the health of the entertainment market overall.”

Taylor Swift‘s ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ was first released in late April, with a surprise extended edition containing fifteen extra tracks dropping on the same day. The album peaked at number one in its debut week, maintaining the position for ten non-consecutive weeks throughout the year; since its release, ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ has earned 783,800 chart units and has become the most streamed and best-selling album of the year. With her latest album, Swift made history as the fastest accumulation of number 1 albums ever; while this is Taylor’s biggest album of the year, it is not the only one that made Official Chart’s top 40 list: ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’, ‘reputation’, ‘folklore’, ‘midnights’ and ‘Lover‘ also made the list.

The second biggest album of 2024 was The Weekend‘s ‘The Highlights‘. Despite the record never reached the number one position, it charted almost every week of the past year in the UK’s top ten. Originally released in 2021, the album has spent 143 weeks in the UK top ten since its release. The collection of Greatest Hits by the Canadian artist was crowned the biggest album of 2023 by Official Charts, and its legacy this year is really a testament to The Weeknd’s talent.

At number three, Sabrina Carpenter is on the podium with ‘Short n Sweet‘, released in the summer. The album spent two non-consecutive weeks at the number one position, charting for a total of 18 weeks since its release in the UK’s top five. With three number one songs and a few broken records in 2024, Carpenter finally achieves well-deserved worldwide fame after her previous album ‘Emails I can’t Send‘ peaked at number 41 in 2022. ‘Short n Sweet‘ is now headed for a sold-out arena tour which will take Carpenter to London’s O2 Arena in March, as well as a sold-out headliner spot at Hyde Park’s BST.

Talking about BST Headliners, Noah Kahan will also be taking the London stage in the upcoming summer while his 2021 album ‘Stick Season‘ is the fourth biggest album of the year. The title track off the album was crowned the UK’s biggest song of the year, and this year ‘Stick Season‘ spent one week as number one and 53 charting in the top 100. Earlier this year, the Vermont-born singer sold out Wembley Arena and, over the summer, he played various sold-out shows across the UK and Europe. In February, the final edition of ‘Stick Season‘ titled ‘Forever‘ was released, and it included every special edition or duet off the album and all its versions, as well as a new exclusive song.

At Number five, Billie Eilish earns her third UK number one album with ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft‘, which marked the biggest debut of Eilish’s career back when first released. The album contains ten tracks, five of which have charted in the UK’s top 100, and debuted at number one, spending one week at the top spot of charts and another 24 in the top ten, charting for an overall of 32 weeks in the top 100.

Noah Kahan‘s 2022 hit ‘Stick Season‘ takes the number one spot for the biggest song of 2024, in the same year where Kahan performed sold out shows at Wembley Arena and was announced as a headliner for next year’s BST Hyde Park. The song was originally released as the lead single of Kahan’s critically acclaimed album ‘Stick Season‘, which peaked at number one on UK charts and has so far spent 81 weeks charting; the song ‘Stick Season’ first debuted on charts in mid-October of 2023 and eventually peaked at number one in January, claiming the title for seven weeks! It is currently Kahan’s only single to achieve the number one position. According to Official Charts, Kahan’s single produced 35,000 sales and 217 million streams, making it the biggest song of the year!

Second is Benson Boone‘s rock ballad ‘Beautiful Things‘, which took nine weeks of climbing charts to achieve the number one position, but eventually did and maintained the spot for two weeks. Boone first gained attention on TikTok, then auditioned for a talent show and gained a sold fanbase; ‘Beautiful Things’ is the artist’s first ever song to achieve the number one position in the UK, but that is not to say Boone is a one-hit wonder: his album debuted at number 16 in the UK, and the single ‘Slow It Down’ reached the fourteenth position. With 1.79 charts units, Benson Boone wins a well-deserved second place on the list of biggest songs of the year.

On the podium at third place, we have chart-topper queen Sabrina Carpenter, who spent 21 weeks at number one. The song that wins third place is ‘Espresso’, one of the highest charting song about coffee ever; ‘Espresso‘ was the lead single off of Carpenter’s album ‘Short n Sweet‘. Originally released in April, ‘Espresso’ took about a month to make its way to number one and claimed the position for seven weeks. With 1.75 charts units, it is one of three songs by Carpenter that made it to the biggest songs of the year list: the others are ‘Please Please Please'(10)  and ‘Taste’ (21).

At number four is Teddy Swims ‘Lose Control‘, which peaked at number two and charted for sixty weeks in the top 100. It counts 67,000 downloads this year and is the artist’s highest charting song, followed by ‘The Door’ at number five and ‘Bad Dreams’ at number six. ‘Lose Control’ was a single off the album ‘I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy‘, Teddy Swim’s first release under a major label, which peaked at number twelve in the UK spending fifty weeks on charts.

Number five goes to Hozier, who achieved his first number one single with viral hit ‘Too Sweet‘, released as part of his fifth EP ‘Unheard‘. Hozier first climbed the UK charts in 2015 with ‘Take Me To Church’ which failed to achieve the top spot of chart peaking at number two. With ‘Too Sweet’, Hozier spent two weeks at number one and another 39 in the UK top 100.

Top Streamed Artists

It seems the UK loves US artists with three out of five being American, and two Canadian. It’s no surprise that Taylor Swift has taken the top spot again with her incredible Era’s Tour and release of the album “The Tortured Poets Department” and an extended 31 song long version of the album, aptly titled “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology”. Popular as ever are Drake and the Weeknd, both of whom appeared on this list for 2023, with Drake retaining his spot as the second most listened-to artist, though the weekend has dropped from third to fifth.

With Kanye West (with his release of the album trilogy “Vultures”) and Billie Eilish (with her hit album “Hit Me Hard and Soft”) taking the third and fourth spots respectively, which means no British artists appear in the top five this year, replacing both Ed Sheeran and Arctic Monkeys.

Top Streamed Songs

Interestingly, none of the artists featured in the top five streamed songs in the UK this year were present in last year’s top five. Last year three out of five artists were British, with the most streamed song being “Sprinter” by Dave and Central Cee. This year the most streamed song is the lyricially complex, alternative/folk song “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan, originally released in 2022. Taking second place is, unsurprisingly, Sabrina Carpenter with “Espresso”. The catchy pop hit was released as a single this year in support of the equally successful full-length album “Short n’ Sweet”, which marked Carpenter’s big break in the UK. The track currently has 1.6 billion streams on Spotify worldwide. Spots three and four are also taken by US artists Benson Boone and Teddy Swims, with the fourth most streamed song being “Too Sweet” by Hozier. The track is the only one originating from an artist originating from the UK, with Hozier being Irish, and he happens to be the only British/Irish artist to appear on any of the top five statistics covered in this article.

Top Streamed Albums in the UK

Following with the trends of the previous lists, the most streamed albums in the UK come from only US artists, with two coming from Taylor Swift. Interestingly, Noah Kahan’s album “Stick Season” takes the third spot despite being released in October of 2022; similarly, “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” was released in 2023 yet still made it onto this year’s list. Carpenter capitalised on the success of single “Espresso” with the release of hits such as “Please Please Please” and “Taste”, both of which also charted well in the UK. Billie Eilish’s album “Hit Me Hard and Soft” justifies her spot on the list, with the viral success of her track “Birds of a Feather” from the album.

After announcing Zach Bryan and Oscar-winner Hugh Jackman as headliners for the 2025 edition, BST Hyde Park revealed Noah Kahan as their next headliner. British Summer Time will be held, as usual, in Hyde Park, and will take place between June 21 and July 17; as their website state, there are plenty more stars to be announced, but the line up so far has not disappointed, and BST even had to add an additional date for Zach Bryan due to extreme demand. Noah Kahan is an American singer who rose to fame in recent years after his record “Stick Season” was released in 2022. A few songs from the record, such as “Homesick” and “You’re Gonna Go Far” received attention on TikTok and gained the artist more and more popularity until, in 2023, Kahan teased the song “Dial Drunk” on social media and the brief snippet published went viral. “Dial Drunk” was then included in the deluxe version of “Stick Season” along with several more songs and an extended version of fan-favourite “The View Between Villages”.  

Kahan has toured the UK multiple times since the release of “Stick Season”: in 2023, he played Kentish Town in London for two sold out shows and in February 2024 he sold out Wembley Arena for two consecutive dates. He also toured the UK again in the summer. Kahan has released multiple versions of “Stick Season” and has invited artists from all kinds of genres to collaborate with him on the songs.

BST has also announced that American pop singer Gracie Abrams will be taking the stage on July 4 as a “special guest”. Kahan and Abrams have collaborated on the song “Everywhere, Everything” which was released in the final deluxe version of “Stick Season” (Stick Season: Forever).

Gracie Abrams has released her second studio album, “The Secret of Us” in June of this year and a deluxe version of the album only a few weeks ago. The single “I love you, I’m sorry” peaked at 19 on Billboard and is, so far, her biggest hit. Abrams has opened for Taylor Swift in North America and has toured across the UK, playing two sold out shows at Shepherd Bush Empire last October. She also has an upcoming, almost completely sold-out tour, which will take her around the country and the rest of Europe between February and March 2025.

The lead single from the album ‘Up All Night’ is star studded as it sees contributions from American Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan as well as indie folk legends The Lumineers. The song sees the three take on an americana style for the track with them singing about their dreams and lives with the title lyrics recurring throughout the songs 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

According to NME James Bay talks about the meaning of ‘Up All Night': “‘Up All Night’ is all about navigating the great weight of all the stuff that plays on our minds and keeps us awake at night,” he explained. “I have some great history with Noah and The Lumineers. We manifested this collaboration for a while, and I feel proud we could make it happen!”

The upcoming album will be 11 tracks long and has been produced by Gabe Simon and also sees contributions from various stars including The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers, Holly Humberstone, Dan Wilson from Semisonic, Natalie Hemby of The Highwomen, and Kevin Garrett.

In addition to releasing an album Bay is set to embark on a run UK and Ireland headline tour dates in February next year. The tour will be the first time Bay has toured the UK and Ireland since 2022 and will commence with a show at Glasgow’s O2 Academy before performances in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester and Dublin. The tour will conclude at the OVO Wembley arena on the 13th of February 2025.

Kahan had recently teased a new collab with a ‘mystery artist’, with many fans guessing correctly at the British singer jumping on board. After generating a fair amount of suspicion, the ‘Seventeen Going Under’ singer announced the joint song on social media, commenting:

“I cut my parts in North Shields, on the banks of the Tyne, literally overlooking the ‘static cranes’ that I mention in my verse; it’s a stone’s throw from the estate in which the riots took place in the early 90’s. It made me proud of my hometown, and my people. The Geordies are a hilarious bunch, resilient and impermeable to hard times and hard drinking; my hometown is a constant source of inspiration. Noah Kahan is a great lad, a canny chanter and a mean wordsmith. I love the track, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Kahan and Fender’s individual verses both tackle their complicated love-hate relationships with their hometowns. Despite growing up in different parts of the world, Kahan on a remote tree farm, and Fender on a bleak council estate, there is a shared sense of loneliness, and an overwhelming urge to escape.

Recognised as a working-class, former ship-building town in the North East, North Shields remains a central landscape and backdrop in many of Fender’s songs. Both artists perfectly encapsulate the growing pains of moving on from a small town that no longer serves you, while still being able to appreciate the beauty in its simplicity.

‘I stare at that hallowed ocean as if to pick a fight / For the dreams my old man dreamt for me lay on the other side,” Fender sings.

Driven by nostalgia and a pride for his people and their past, it’s clear that Fender also finds himself relishing in returning home, if anything to break a cycle of generational trauma, and to prove just how far he has come.

With a montage of new clips circulating on Instagram, it appears a music video for the single, or a documentary of sorts may also be in the works.
