British folk singer-songwriter has announced the release of his new album, his first in four years. The album, entitled ‘Interference (Of Light)’ is due to be released on August 20th 2021 and will be the singer’s seventh studio album. The new album’s lead single, ‘Together‘, will be released in June 2021, ahead of the release of the full album in the summer.

The new album was recorded during the COVID-19 nationwide lockdown and sees the singer experiment with new sounds and discover new techniques. The singer recorded his new material in East London and gives fans a much heavier sound in which Faulkner has previously released.

Surrey born Faulkner had this to say about his new album.

“I’m not very precious anymore. the music is a bit chunkier, it’s definitely way heavier and much less acoustic than previously. I feel like the stuff I’ve written recently is simpler, but it’s tasteful… it works as songs. I can feel it.”

Newton proceeds to describe his new sound and also describes how the new sound has affected his vocals, describing how the new sound ‘nurtured’ his vocals. The singer-songwriter continues. “I want to boil things down to their strongest form. It’s about the songs. However good you are at playing, if the voice isn’t up to scratch and the songs aren’t good enough, no one is going to listen to them. It’s grizzly, soulful, and a step further. Vocally, I’ve learned a huge amount over the years. I was a guitarist and a writer who sang. That’s kind of where I came from. And now I feel like my voice has caught up with the stuff I was doing on guitar.”

Throughout the changes, Newton states that he stands by his authentic self as “weird, solitary figure, I don’t think things get better or worse. They just change. I’ve kind of purposefully steered away from any of the cliques that have appeared around me. I’ve just remained this weird, solitary figure. I love it!”

The four year hiatus was not completely quiet as the singer released the single, ‘Better Way‘ in 2020. The singer-songwriter’s previous album, ‘Hit the Ground Running’ was released on September 1st 2017. Newton’s sixth studio album marked the tenth anniversary of Newton’s hugely popular debut album, ‘Hand Built By Robots’, released June 27th 2007. The sixth studio album included references to the debut album, including clever melodic mentions and playful lyrical connections to ‘Hand Built By Robots’.

Newton’s debut initially entered at number three in the UK album charts, but in its fourth week, reached number one. The album included Newton’s most popular release, the single ‘Teardrop’. The fourth single from the album is a cover of the original track by British trip-hop group Massive Attack and skyrocketed Newton to success. Along with the third single ‘Dream Catch Me’, which was certified platinum with over 600,000 sales, Faulkner has become a staple within the singer-songwriter and folk genres.

Newton has announced further good news, the singer will start a socially- distanced tour in May, see below for dates and tickets. The songwriter and musician will also continue to begin his official tour later on in the year.
