The singer made a huge comeback a couple of weeks ago with brand new single ‘What Was That?’ and announced the release of her highly-anticipated fourth album ‘Virgin’. Alongside the news, she announced she will be hitting the road again starting in Austin, Texas this September.

The tour will see support acts such as Blood Orange, who collaborated on the pop star’s upcoming album, The Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Chanel Beads, Empress Of, Jim-E Stack, another ‘Virgin’ collaborator and Oklou. “Very proud and excited to be bringing my most talented friends in support,” said Lorde, announcing the lineup.

The UK leg will see the ‘Royals’ singer headline a full arena run for the first time, with dates in Manchester, London, Glasgow and Birmingham in November.

The upcoming album will include single ‘What Was That?’, which was the first release from the singer in four years. It followed up Lorde’s appearance on the remix of Charli XCX’s song ‘Girl, So Confusing’ as part of the ‘Brat’ remix album which they surprised performed together during the Essex singer’s Coachella set.

The singer shared with Pitchfork: “An album by me, produced by me and Jim-E Stack. 100% WRITTEN IN BLOOD. THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH.”

“I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC. I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.”

New Zealand have launched a bid to enter the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with a comedy single by pop duo Two Hearts.

The song, titled “Eurovusion (Open Up)” can be heard below:

New Zealand’s Eurovision bid is being backed by a Kiwi brewery, Yeastie Boys. The brewery owners have started a petition to let New Zealand join the Eurovision contest, alongside their Australian neighbours who are already included.

Nearly 50k views on our song to launch Aotearoa New Zealand’s bid for an invitation to @Eurovision. https://t.co/gL3JDv9Tox

Surely it’s time @bbceurovision gave it some airtime. If this was in the competition it would be a finalist, for sure.

Stu McKinlay, founder of Yeastie Boys, said, “We’ve become big Eurovision fans since arriving here in the UK but we really miss having our own country to cringe at while simultaneously supporting unwaveringly.”

Discussing Australia being included but not his native New Zealand, McKinlay continued, “I was the youngest of five kids and whenever my older siblings went to gigs, I was too young to join them. Australia being in Eurovision, when New Zealand hasn’t been invited, gives me the same vibes and I don’t like it.”

He added, “New Zealanders grow up with a sense of social justice being very important and Australia being invited to Eurovision without New Zealand is like inviting someone to your wedding but not giving them a plus one! Everyone loves New Zealand and finds us cute and non-threatening and that makes us a sure thing for doing well in the public vote. I mean who really likes Australia?”

On the petition page, McKinlay writes, “New Zealand is a country with a rich musical heritage that could bring a lot to the Eurovision party. Just ask Lorde, Crowded House or Dane Rumble. We have taken it upon ourselves to highlight this injustice and right this wrong by inviting fellow New Zealand pals Two Hearts to launch the first ever official unofficial Eurovision entry.”

Ultimately, New Zealand asks, “Why the hell are Australia in it? Can New Zealand come and play too?”

The UK is set to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest next week, honouring Ukraine who won last year. The 2023 finals will take place on 9th May and 11th May, with the grand finals on 13th May.

The event will be hosted in Liverpool, with Liverpool-based band Frankie Goes to Hollywood reuniting to open this year’s contest.

Eurovision co-host Alisha Dixon has called this year’s event “so much more than a competition” as the nations gather to honour Ukraine. Dixon said the event is “very important. We feel that sense of responsibility to do it with joy, love.”

Mae Muller is the official UK entrant for 2023, releasing “I Wrote a Song” in hopes of scoring as highly as last year’s UK contestant, Sam Ryder.

Earlier this month the progressive rocker trio, Black Midi, kicked off their 2023 tour around the globe. They got the show on the road on the 5th March in London playing an all time special, four consecutive day, live edition at the Village Underground venue. They all sold out instantly and have plunged a great start to their big journey ahead.

Probably consumed by the mountain of work ahead of them, they hiccuped when posting the dates on their website by dating the gigs in 2022 instead of 2023. So, bare that in mind if checking for their assigned days on their page.

Picking up again on the 24th of March, the band will be flying off to carry out another 22 gigs in Australian, New Zealand and US soil. A lot of Canadians weren’t too happy with the new dates. They were expecting to be granted a visit from the British rock twisters and have expressed their dismay via Black Midi’s social media.

From the 24th to the 26th March the band will be visiting Wellington and Auckland in New Zealand, of which one of them is already sold out. Following after this, from the 28th March to the 2nd April they will be playing in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth in Australia, already partly sold out.

Trailing after, they will be making their way to the US on the 8th of June to play in 15 different American cities. Starting off in Philadelphia and finishing off in Boston on the 8th of July, 2023. Once finished in the US they will round up the tour by an added three gigs in the UK playing at Latitude Festival on the 23rd July, We Out Here Festival on the 11th August, All Points East on the 25th August and a, fairly random, gig in Spain, Torremolinos on the 24th August.

The band’s last LP release was their third studio album Hellfire in 2022. Ever since their debut album Schlagenheim in 2019, the band have not been short of representing their untiring hell. Through stories and hellbound characters they manage to siv their way around humanity’s nastiest aspects in existence. Playing around with math rock delusions and experimental post-rock madness the band dedicated their songwriting to be almost unplayable live.

Their latest release, however, was Live Fire. An only physically distributed album of their live performance in Primavera Sound, Porto. They interpret Hellfire through a more loosened and cheeky manner compared to the studio recordings. The texture given to the workpiece if a unique feel.

Tickets for all their coming live gigs went live on Friday, 3rd of March.
