The newly released mix was made available via Parlophone Records and was created by the album’s co-producer Ken Scott. The legendary producer is best known as one of the five engineers who worked closely with the Beatles. Scott generated the new mix at the beginning of the year from existing multi-tracks. The new version of the iconic track was based on the master track which resulted from Bowie’s broadcast recording on Top Of The Pops, with the master having initially been released on the picture disc Starman 7’’, which dropped over ten years ago.

A statement on Bowie’s website has given the following description outlining the importance of the performance and recording, “David Bowie’s performance of STARMAN on Top Of The Pops is undoubtedly one of the most essential pieces of music television ever broadcast. It has influenced generations of musicians, artists and writers who saw it at the time and countless others who have since seen it over the decades, from bootleg VHS copies to YouTube clips.”

Although taken off the air in 2006, Top Of The Pops has remained an important institution within British music and has been responsible for the success of many artists since its first broadcast in 1964. According to rules outlined by the Musicians Union. In order to appear on the TV show artists would have to re-record their song and then perform the vocals live over the newly recorded track. Due to these rules, Scott had multiple tracks available to use and was able to utilise both aspects of the process.

The new mix consists of the backing vocals recorded for the show’s purpose and the lead vocals taken from the track featured on the album. As per the show’s request, the backing vocals were recorded at Trident Studios, one of London’s most beloved recording facilities located in SoHo. Keen-eared music fans will spot the Adhoc ab-lib within the mix, Bowie can be heard singing “Hey Brown Crow”.

The re-worked mix of “Starman” is not the only celebratory nod to the influential album’s 50th anniversary, to commemorate the release of The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars the album will also be made available as a special edition. As from Friday 17th June 2022, the album will be available to purchase as a limited edition 50th anniversary half-speed mastered LP and picture disc, the LP will not only hold great collector value but will also include the re-worked master and a reproduction of the promotional poster.

Bowie’s powerful talent is not only evident in his enduring legacy but can also be seen within his influence seen in other musicians, Tim Burgess is one of such artists and chose to celebrate the musical landmark in a virtual fashion. The English singer and frontman for The Charlatans held a very special listening party today via Twitter, Burgess has given the following description of the event, “I’m really excited to be hosting a Ziggy Stardust Listening Party on the 50th anniversary of the album’s release. Fans from all around the world can take part and we’ve enlisted a few friends to help us out too.”

The famous baritone singer has worked with the Essex rockers on his new collaboration. Known for their second studio album Broken Machine, the group have lent their unique rock sound to Rag’nBone Man’s single. Consisting of members Conor Mason on lead vocals and guitar, Joe Langridge-Brown on backing vocals and guitar, Dominic Craik on guitar, keys and backing vocals, Philip Blake on bass and James Price on percussion the band have achieved critical and commercial acclaim since their formation in 2012.

The newly remixed single starts with the original release’s mellow melodic guitar licks but bring more of an electric appeal to the beginning verse. Accompanied by the artist’s classic strong vocals, the “Alone” remix also features the stirring backing vocals heard in the original. Much like the original single the remix firmly cements the song’s lyrical themes by a strong musical presence and is accompanied by a meaningful music video featuring overlapping black and white photos of the performers.

Born as Rory Charles Graham, Rag’n’Bone man had this to say concerning his new collaboration. Within his statement, the singer expresses his process with previous remixes and states how he knew he wanted to work with Nothing But Thieves. “Most singles I’ve released so far come with remixes and sometimes it’s a bit difficult to imagine what it’s going to be like – especially if it’s dance or drum and bass. With ‘Alone’, I felt like that wasn’t going to be possible and I had to think outside the box. I remember seeing Nothing But Thieves at some festivals previously and thinking how amazing they were – I love their sound. I think they’ve done a really interesting version of this song and it’s a real honour to have them on the track.”

The 36-year-old artist first achieved success with his single “Human”, the track was released on 21st July 2016 and was taken from his debut album entitled Human. The singer’s debut album was released on 10th February 2017 and sired the artist in both commercial and critical success. Debuting at number one within the UK album charts, the album would become the fasted selling debut album within the 2010s for a male artist. Graham received multiple accolades for his first studio album, including two Brit Awards in 2017 for Critics Choice Award and British Breakthrough Act.

Rag’n’bone’s original version of “Alone’ was released as the third single from the artist’s second studio album Life by Misadventure. Much like his debut studio album, Life by Misadventure debuted at number one within the UK Album Charts. The album also features the singer’s collaboration with American artist Pink, the track entitled “Anywhere Away from Here” was released as the album’s second single on 9th April 2021 via Sony Music. The track was released as a charity single alongside the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, profits made from the sale of the record were given to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and the encompassing NHS charities.

Among the artists that will feature on Suddenly Remixes is UK’s hot artist Four Tet on his version of the track Never Come Back. Among the artists who will feature for the first time on the new album are Toro y Moi, Jessy Lanza, Prince Nifty, and Koreless, all who have produced remixes for Never Come Back, Home, You and I and others.

When discussing the upcoming Suddenly Remixes, Caribou stated that, ‘Sometimes remixes are commissioned to be marketing tools or to make the music functional in a club. But for me, there’s only one reason to get remixes done: because I’m a giddy fan of the remixer. Looking down the tracklisting of this remix album, it’s a thrill to see a list of producers whose music I find so inspiring collected there. Some are established artists, some are just starting out; some I messaged, begging a remix, right after coming across their music for the first time; and some are dear friends whose music I’ve loved for a while—but in every case, I feel very lucky to hear their music and mine connected on this remix album.

The original album Suddenly was released Februrary 28th, 2020 and in October of that year, Caribou released the first round of remixes for the album via EP. The remixed EP consisted of two remixes for the song Sunny’s Time, one by Kareem Ali and the other by Logic1000.

Like I Loved You by India Jordan and Shanti Celeste produced Ravi. The remixed singles Sister and Never Come Back were however released 3 months earlier, which was the beginning of the long slew of remixes to come for Caribou in the years 2020 and 2021.

The original EP was met with mixed reviews from fans, but did receive very high critic praise when it was released. The success of the album was incomparable to the Body Talk series, however, Do It Again still went into the top 20 album charts in the UK and became the first number-one Dance/Electronic album that either Robyn or Röyksopp ever received.

The release of the remixed Monument was in celebration of The Knife’s 20th anniversary of the band on January 29th. The official release has come with a statement saying that “This is the first time Olof has worked with the duo, having previously worked with Robyn across projects on Konichiwa Records.” Indicating that the three Scandinavian artists have been working up to this collaboration.

When describing the sound of the new track, a press release stated that “for the rework, Olof brings his signature warm and percussive sound to the chart-topping single. The track is accompanied by a visualizer from Martin Falck who has previously collaborated with The Knife, Bjork, Fever Ray and Robyn.”

The Knife has also celebrated its 20th anniversary with releasing rare music previously unreleased tracks from the last two decades of their career. They also uploaded their music onto the streaming platform Bandcamp for more listeners to enjoy their music over the years.

Robyn’s latest album Honey was released in 2018 and received critical acclaim once again for the artist. Most recently she teamed up with Jonsi for the track Salt Licorice, a collaboration fans have been long awaiting. Monument is now available for streaming on all platforms and can be seen above.

Fresh off releasing his latest album Notes From The Underground a month ago, High Contrast’s remix turns the heat up and adds extra power to the main drum’n’bass elements of the track. Maintaining the original melodies and gentle tones of the single, it subtly replaces parts of the instrumentation with more conventional electronic tropes, resulting in a more energetic and upbeat club hit. Barrett has been active for more than 20 years, using his widely recognised artistic nickname High Contrast since 2000 when he also signed for Hospital Records. As the renowned London-based independent label describes him, he “needs no introduction any more” since “the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the D+B scene and has become one of its iconic and much respected heroes“. A leading name in the UK electronic scene, High Contrast has released seven studio albums and 2 EPs, and has taken parts in various remix collaborations and compilations, including the Isles of Wonder, the official soundtrack of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Welsh DJ dropped his latest record Notes From The Underground on 4 December 2020 via 3 Beat Production where he signed back in 2016 for his previous album Night Gallery. Yet another strong release with powerful guests and somewhat oldschool approach, the album features 14 tracks that seemlessly blend contemporary electronic music, liquid funk and jungle beats. Notes From The Underground is still relatively fresh, but has already seen positive reviews from fans and critics, with DJ Mag commenting on the album that “sees him draw on sounds and techniques from the modern d&b scene’s junglist roots” while The Arts Desk calls it “a deep, elegaic and occasionally beautiful listen“.

‘Freedom‘ is the fourt track from Portals, the critically acclaimed recent team-up between the genre titans Sub Focus and Wilkinson. Released on 9 October 2020, the album was the successful result of the two DJs’ isolated collaborative work at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in the inspiring rural surroundings of Bath.

The record featured the huge singles ‘Illuminate‘, ‘Just Hold On‘, ‘Air I Breathe‘ and ‘Turn The Lights Off‘ and managed to reach #68 in the Official Albums Chart while naturally topping the UK Dance Albums Charts. ‘Freedom‘ is the fifth official single from Portals, released today alongside High Contrast’s fresh remix of the track.

On September 5, 2019, Grimes released the music video for the first single release off the Miss Anthropocene album Violence which featured the artist  i_o on one of the last tracks he worked on before his death last month. In October of 2019 an unfinished version of Miss Anthropocene leaked online, prompting Grimes to release an art mix and an algorithm mix of the Miss Anthropocene single So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth, which will be the first remixed track on the upcoming album. The artist preformed her now famous song 4æm for the first time at the 2019 Video Game Awards to introduce her character in the game Cyberpunk 2077 which was released 2 weeks ago.

Grimes will feature many musicians, mixers and producers on Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition that are from UK and EU, including British-producer Richie Hawtin. Hawtin remixed the single Darkseid, which was recently released as a new remix, acting as Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition’s second single release. The only other previously released remix from this new album is the latest version of So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth, this version has been mixed by ANNA.

Along with the album release in February, the multiple features and singles released this year, Grimes recently announced the single AI Lullaby with Endel, which acts a sound-escape for children to help them sleep; this is likely inspired by Grimes recent birth of her child X Æ A-12 with Elon Musk. Grimes has also been busy promoting her latest Cyberpunk game which features the song Delicate Weapon which was released along with the game on December 18th.

Grimes does not have any upcoming tour-dates in 2020 or 2021, however, it is unclear whether that is because of safety concerns surrounding the Covid-19 global pandemic, or because she has not headlined a tour since 2016. However, when discussing her latest musical style and genre in the tracks released since 2016, Grimes stated that her music is unplaylistable – which is a huge problem. This not pop. This is not rock. They’re not discernible genres.

Miss Anthropocene: Rave Edition will be released at midnight in the UK on New Years Day, the original album Miss Anthropocene, along with her various singles released in 2020 are all available for streaming on all platforms. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on eBay and Grimes has a new colouring book available for purchase as well. No ticket sales are available at this time.
