Sir Elton John and Ed Sheeran are planning to release a Christmas duet this December. During a radio appearance on Wednesday 6th October the “Shape Of You” singer confirmed the exciting news. The interview was aired on Jan-Willem Stat Op, a radio show on the Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2. Sheeran announced the news on air to hosts Jan-Willem Roodbeen and Jeroen Kijk in de Vegte. Within the interview, Sheeran stated that during last year’s Christmas they discussed their possible musical venture.

The radio show took to their Twitter to share the news. The post features a short clip from the interview which shows Sheeran discuss the new duet.

Grote primeur in het 10-voor-9 journaal! @edsheeran heeft een kerstsingle met @eltonjohn gemaakt. pic.twitter.com/sygJQNTvbS

— Jan-Willem Start Op! (@jwstartop) October 6, 2021

The singer confirmed the duo’s plans when the hosts questioned Sheeran regarding a possible Christmas release. Sheeran replied certifying that the two were working on music and described the new song as, “It’s f—ing great.“.

Sheeran proceeded to recount the events leading up to the pair’s decision. The “Shivers” singer stated how he talks to Sir John often and recounted the telephone conversation which led to their new duet. Sheeran recounted how Sir John rang him on Christmas day in 2020 to present the collaboration. “He rang me on Christmas Day and he said, ‘”Step Into Christmas” is No. 6 on the charts, and I’m 74, and I’m still having f—ing chart hits, this is great! I want to do another Christmas song, will you do it with me?‘

Sir John is no stranger to a holiday single, the singer released the festive track “Step into Christmas” in 1973. The single was released with the b-side: “Ho, Ho, Ho (Who’d Be a Turkey At Christmas)” and charted at number 24. In 2019 the single re-entered the charts and peaked at number 8. The track is often a chart favourite amid the Christmas season and often re-enters the chart as shown in Sheeran’s quote.

Within the interview, Sheeran discussed how he initially felt apprehensive to accept Sir John’s offer. However, Sheeran sadly lost a close friend, and the tragedy changed his mind. “I’ve never really wanted to do a Christmas song. It really just hit home how stuff can just change overnight, I was like, ‘Why the f–k am I not doing a Christmas song with Elton John? I might not be here tomorrow, this will be a f—ing great way to celebrate Christmas.’”

Sheeran has had a lot to celebrate this year, the 30-year-old singer has enjoyed a long run of number one singles. The singer’s newest single “Shivers” has been occupying the number one single spot for the past three weeks. Sheeran’s previous single “Bad Habits” also achieved great success within the charts. Both singles have been taken from the singer’s upcoming fourth studio album. Sheeran’s newest album entitled = is set to be released on 29th October 2021.

Sheeran’s legendary collaborator Sir John has also been releasing new material this year. The “Tiny Dancer” singer has released various collaborations, the most recent being the new duet with Stevie Wonder. All tracks have been taken from his upcoming album The Lockdown Sessions, released on 22nd October 2021. Also included within the famed pianist’s new album is his duet with Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart”. The single scored the duo a number one single and still remains in the charts.

A multi-instrumentalist, and party king, Andrew W.K. is back. Having spent his career writing the mega-mix of rock party anthems, Andrew is back to deliver us with more quality tracks. “Party Hard” was the soundtrack of the early 2000’s club scene, with I Get Wet (2001) standing the test of time as one of the most quintessential l albums in anyone’s house party playlist. Spreading his wings on further albums, The Wolf (2003), 55 Cadillac (2009), to name a few, he has earned his title as God of partying with much success.

The long-awaited return is finally upon us, after A.W.K’s last album You’re Not Alone (2018), there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Now, nearly 20 years after chart-topping I Get Wet, Andrew W.K. is ready to gift us his legendary return. His new album, and fifth full-length album, God is Partying, is out via Napalm Records this Friday (10th September). After singles “Babalon”, “I’m in Heaven”, and “Everybody Sins”, he has one more gift up his sleeve.

Ahead of the release Andrew W.K. has dropped one last single. “Stay True to Your Heart” displays one of the best choruses of his career. “The song is meant to analyse me” Andrew described the song. Andrew W.K. continues: “Being true to yourself isn’t the same as staying true to your heart. They told me all about this when I started forming.”. If this song is anything to go off, the album will be unparalleled in its party ability. This is a standout track that is drenched in exactly what makes Andrew well, Andrew. Encompassing exactly what the title sets out to achieve.

“What does it mean for me to be not-human? What does it mean for a not-human to posses my party mindset? It’s not appropriate for me to analyze this song in that way”- Andrew Discusses on new track “Stay True To Your Heart”.

God Is Partying sees Andrew W.K. making his mark on the current music scene. Is set to release this Friday. Providing the perfect soundtrack to celebrate in the confusing haze of the world’s current state; while showing off individuality and talent. Performing all of the albums inurement’s himself, with help from co-producer, Grammy award-winning, and writing partner, Ted Young.

The ‘It’s a Sin’ singer has put his unique spin on the original release’s lead single, the singer has taken a different approach than the original which features a big stadium-esque feel. Alexander has infused the song with a dance influence, modernising the feel-good hit for a new generation, whilst keeping the heart thumping appeal which made the single a hymn for self love a decade ago. Alexander’s version is one of four covers in which Gaga has shared with her fans ahead of the album release. Fans will remember that this is not Alexander’s first cover, he famously won the nation’s hearts with his cover performed at this year’s Brit awards.

Gaga’s single was originally released on 11th February 2011, the single quickly became an anthem of empowerment and freedom within the LGBTQIA+ community. The single was not only received with critical acclaim but also reached number three within the UK charts and went on to sell over 10.49 million units worldwide. The single was the lead release from the singer’s album, and now after a decade, the LP is being reconceived for new and old fans.
The singer’s twelfth number one was released on 11th June 2021 and debuted at number one, clinching the top spot with over 28,000 chart sales. The chart-topping album found a great deal of success within its physical sales with 9,300 sales on physical formats, the release sold the most units on CD and Vinyl formats over the weekend beating out the rest of the top 5 candidates.

Included in the album’s Vinyl sales, was the limited-edition vinyl which was released especially for this year’s Record Store Day. The spike in physical sales has been accredited to Record Store Day which recently had its first event on 12th June 2021. The final day will take place on 17th July 2021 and fans can predict that physical sales of the album will again surge during the event. The singer also has a personal connection with Record Store Day, Noel Gallagher was recently announced as the ambassador of the event, a position in which the singer has taken to heart.

Gallagher has spoken with OfficalCharts.com concerning his win, thanking fans for another number one in a jovial tone.

“What? I’m Number 1? Again?! Thanks very much for this, I’m running out of Manc-lepiece space for these things, but it’s an absolute honour. Thank you very much.”

In the singer’s acceptance speech, the singer speaks on his win whilst celebrating his Manchester roots. He can be seen with a cardboard cut-out of Pep Guardiola, manager for Manchester City. Gallagher once interviewed the sport’s figure in 2016 after Guardiola had taken over as manager for the premier league football club Manchester City.

Gallagher’s recent number one album was released under the name of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and provides an audible musical history of the band, With a track list of 30 songs which span three discs, listeners can celebrate the band’s decade long career. The release features tracks from the band’s three number one albums, ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, ‘Chasing Yesterday’ and ‘Who Built The Moon’.
For this release, Jones is not only celebrating gaining the number one spot, but the singer has also broken a record. The 80-year-old has become the oldest male to win the number one album on the Official Albums Chart. To make the victory even sweeter, Jones is also the oldest artist to win the award with new material. The previous holder of the record was the legendary folk singer, Bob Dylan with his release of ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways’, released on 19th June 2020. Alongside these accomplishments, the release also makes Jones the first Welsh solo artist to gain such traction within the UK charts, the last Welsh chart-topper was the 2012 album ‘Electra Heart’ by Marina & The Diamonds.

Jones had this to say to OfficalCharts.com about his victory whilst thanking those who helped him make the album.

“I am thrilled beyond words with the reception for Surrounded By Time, and to now hold these UK chart records is tremendous, just unbelievable. I am so proud of everyone who helped me create this music, I had a ball working with them and to get this result is just incredible. It’s wonderful that the public has allowed me to be musically expressive at my time of life and have shown their support. I am forever grateful.”

‘Surrounded By Time’ was released on 23rd April 2021 and featured four singles. The lead single, ‘Talking Reality Television Blues’ was released on 15th January 2021 and much like the other tracks, is a cover song. The release marks Jones’ fourth number one album, the famous baritone’s last number one album was ‘Reloaded’, released 16th September 1999. Much like his new release, ‘Reloaded’ also featured mostly cover songs. The album saw Jones team up with various artists including Robbie Williams and Stereophonics and sired five singles. One of the most successful singles was ‘Sex Bomb’, which saw Jones join forces with DJ and producer Mouse T, the single was released in 2000 and soon became a hit for both artists.

The previous good news which was confirmed earlier in the year stated that Jones will be performing some live events this summer. Jones also confirmed that he would be performing an exclusive concert 27th July 2021 in support of his number one album, ‘Surrounded By Time’.

The band’s new release came as a surprise for fans as the standard release schedule which traditionally incorporates live shows in which labels and bands follow in preparation for a new release, could not be followed due to COVID, so the band took creative actions and different avenues to promote the new release. The new album is a brand-new collection that features recordings of tracks made over the year through live streams. The recordings also include home studio and acoustic sessions which were released on YouTube as well as live performances from the festivals, Five 4 Five and 2000 Trees. The collection will also give fans two exclusive solo acoustic performances by instrumentalist and lead vocalist, Rou Reynolds and is accompanied by the Bulgarian orchestra and choir, Sofia Session Orchestra.

Included in the orchestral tracks is the reimagined version of ‘The Dreamer’s Hotel’, originally released on the band’s sixth studio album ‘Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible’. The band’s previous album was released nearly a year before the new collection on 17th April 2020. The track was initially released as the album’s lead single on 10th February 2020, after the release the band quickly announced their live tour but due to COVID, the shows have been postponed.

Reynolds had this to say about the band’s COVID experience as well as the decision to work with an orchestra on the new recording of ‘The Dreamer’s Hotel’.

“With no live shows, and no real contact with the rest of the band, it was nice to at least be able to do some remote sessions together. It was also interesting to develop acoustic and alternative versions of some of the new tracks. These performances went some way to filling the gaping hole in our lives!. After creating an acoustic version of ‘The Dreamer’s Hotel’ to play during lockdown livestreams, I began to think that this rather dulcet adaption could benefit from some orchestral parts. I love composing and it was a joy to work with the Sofia Session Orchestra, who, as you’ll hear, nailed it”.

Also announced today was the release date of Rou Reynolds’ new book, ‘A Treatise on Possibility: Perspectives on Humanity Hereafter’. The singer’s new book will be his fourth, his previous titles include, ‘Enter Shikari- Dear Future Historians: Lyrics and Essays’ released in 2017, ‘The Spark: Lyrics and Exegesis of Rou Reynolds for the Music of Enter Shikari’ released in 2018 and ‘Dear Future Historians 2006- 2019’ released in 2019. The new book, released 16th July 2021, is divided into two parts and will serve as a companion to the band’s new album, guiding listeners through the album’s lyrical themes and ideas as well as an interesting insight into modern life.

More exciting news has also been announced today, along with the new collection and book, the band will also release limited-edition versions in a physical format of the new album as well as a deluxe re-release of ‘Nothing Is True & Everything is Possible’, which will feature two discs and will include both albums. The special and limited editions will be released on 16th July 2021 and are sure to be a must have for any fan.

The singer songwriter’s recent number one album, ‘Collections From The Whiteout’ has become vastly popular in independent record shops as the best-selling album. Howard’s recent release is also topping the Official Vinyl Albums Chart. The album’s lead single, ‘What a Day’ premiered on 26th January 2021 on Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1. The album’s second single entitled ‘Crowhurst’s Meme’ was released on 2nd February 2021, third single ‘Far Out’ and fourth single ‘Follies Fixture’ were both released on 26th February 2021 with the fifth and final single, ‘Sorry Kid’ premiering on Annie Mac’s show on 22nd March 2021.

‘Collections From The Whiteout’ follows Howard’s previous album, ‘Noonday Dream’, which was released on 1st June 2018. Much like Howard’s singles from ‘Collections From The Whiteout’, ‘A Boat To An Island On The Wall’ taken from the singer’s third studio album, debuted on the BBC 1 radio show, Annie Mac. The show also featured the announcement of Howard’s 2018 UK tour dates. ‘Noonday Dream’ and Howard’s 2011 release ‘Every Kingdom’, both reached number four in the UK charts.

This is not the first success in Howard’s decade long career, in 2013 the singer won two BRIT awards, for British Breakthrough Act and British Solo Male Artist. He was also nominated for a Mercury prize in 2012, for his debut album ‘Every Kingdom’, released on 30th September 2011. The debut’s first single ‘The Wolves’ and album track ‘These Waters’, were both re-recordings of original tracks taken from Howard’s EP ‘These Waters’ released on 7th July 2009.

Howard will perform in a live-streamed event from Goonhilly Earth Station, ready to watch on 8th April 2021.
