Known for their groundbreaking sound and layered, immersive production, My Bloody Valentine reshaped the alternative rock landscape with their 1991 album ‘Loveless‘, widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. It peaked at #7 on the UK Album Chart. Their signature blend of distorted guitars, ethereal vocals, and intricate production techniques made them pioneers of the shoegaze genre, inspiring countless artists in the decades since.

While My Bloody Valentine is more known for their critically acclaimed albums than chart-topping singles, ‘Soon’ from ‘Loveless‘ remains one of their most iconic tracks. The song, featuring swirling guitar loops and a hypnotic dance beat, was revolutionary for its time, blending elements of shoegaze and electronic music in a way that was years ahead of its era.

With their upcoming tour, the band’s return to UK stages is set to be one of the most significant live music events of the year. Tickets for the tour go on sale April 4, and given the band’s cult status, they are expected to sell out quickly. There is also an opportunity to sign up to the band’s newsletter for pre-sale options before March 31. Whilst, there has been no official confirmation of additional UK dates yet, fans are encouraged to stay updated through the band’s official website for any future announcements.

The concert will be taking place on November 22, 2025. The band hasn’t yet confirmed whether this gig will be a part of a bigger tour or a stand-alone date. Nevertheless, fans are excited to see the group on the stage again after seven years.

The band first formed in Dublin in the early 1980s, but initially struggled to gain success. They changed management multiple times and attempted releases which always failed to catch the public’s attention. But this changed after they signed with Creation Records and released a few extended plays which turned out quite successful, and finally their first full-length studio album in 1988 titled “Isn’t Anything” which included the single “Feed Me with Your Kiss”.

In 1991, My Bloody Valentine released “Loveless” which is generally seen as their best piece of work. It was preceded by two Eps, released in 1990 and 1991, titled respectively “Glider” and “Tremolo”. “Loveless” included the single “Only Shallow”, which was released with a music video that shows the band performing the song. “Loveless” peaked at number seven on the UK official charts, with the song “To Here Knows When”, off the album, peaked at number 29.

The band took a long hiatus which eventually culminated in the release of the record “MBV” in 2013, over two decades later. “MBV” was welcomed with the public’s acclaim and high markings from critics, and peaked at number 29 on UK charts. A tour also followed the release of the album, which included a few dates in East Asia, Australia and North America. The UK leg of the tour consisted in three dates: they played Barrowland in Glasgow, O2 Apollo in London, Hammersmith Apollo in London.

Earlier in 2021, while promoting new re-releases, My Bloody Valentine have confirmed that they are working on new music. They have recently signed with Domino Recording Company, a new management that has made their music available on all streaming platforms.

Shortly after this, however, the band accused the platform Spotify of showing different lyrics for their songs from what was actually being sung in their albums, stating on a now-deleted twitter post that they felt it was “insulting”.

My Bloody Valentine will be back on the stage in November 2025, for a much-anticipated date in Dublin. For anyone signing up to the band’s newsletter, there will be a special presale; general tickets will be available and on sale from November 29, at 10:00 am.

Smith is most famous for playing lead guitar for seminal English post-punk band The Fall, playing with the band between 1983-1989 and a second stint from 1994-1996. Smith grew up in Los Angeles, moving to Chicago in 1972, where she became a punk, playing The Clash’s “The Guns of Brixton” so often that her friends nicknamed her Brixton, later shortened to Brix.

Telling The Guardian back in 2016 about hearing The Fall for the first time, she said, “something hit me so hard I became obsessed with them, though not in a psycho fan way. I listened to Slates over and over and over until I understood it, internalised it and then could move”.

Her life changed dramatically after a chance meeting with The Fall’s lead singer, Mark E. Smith, at a gig at the Metro in Chicago in 1983. The two hit it off, “I had found my soulmate,” Smith told The Guardian. The couple moved to Manchester and were married two months later in Bury; she was only twenty and he was twenty-six at the time and they had known each other for less than six months.

She joined the band, singing and playing the guitar on The Fall’s 1983 album Perverted by Language bringing more of a mainstream sound to the band. She left the band for the first time in 1989 when the two divorced. Since The Fall, Smith has started the bands The Adult Net and Brix & the Extricated and spent a whirlwind 24hrs in Courtney Love’s band Hole.

Back in February, Smith told NME, “This is the announcement: I’m going out on the road with an all-female band. I’m going under the name Brix Smith or possibly Brix Smith Group, I haven’t decided yet. It’s time for me to put my money where my mouth is and take it out there! All of us are between 40 and 60 and they’re all top post-punk feminists.”

On the upcoming tour, NME reported Smith’s feelings, “I’m so excited to be playing these iconic intimate club shows in October with my amazing supergroup of phenomenal women players. Come feel the power, noise, energy and love. We will take you on a full spectrum ride.” Tickets for the upcoming tour are available here.

Smith will also be releasing her debut solo album, Valley of The Dolls, early next year, featuring contributions from Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama and Shakespeares Sister and Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles. Though the band hadn’t played together in a considerable amount of time, frontman Kevin Shield’s latest live appearance was much more recent. He graced Sigur Rós’ Icelandic festival with a rare solo set in 2017, where he played alongside the Tim Herzog, the drummer of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It was during that show that Kevin announced new My Bloody Valentine music would be coming in 2018.

No new songs have been released yet, but the band have been busy nonetheless, re-releasing two records earlier this year. The two albums, 1988’s “Isn’t Anything” and 1991’s “Loveless” are the first two My Bloody Valentine ever released, and were re-released as “all analogue versions”.

As for their 2018 show, the time they’d spent away from the stage showed, with the band suffering from technical difficulties and false starts. However, they quickly got it under control and delivered a show just as loud and unwieldy as fans were expecting, with earplugs even being handed out on the door to protect people against their famous volume.
