The band started this global tour back in March 2022, and last year it became the highest-grossing rock tour of all time.

Coldplay have only one show left of their record-breaking 10-night residency at London’s Wembley Stadium, which will take place September 12. These dates follow two stadium shows in Hull last month.

During their show at Wembley Stadium September 6, Chris Martin revealed that there will be more shows to come on the tour. “This tour has 138 more shows to go,” he told the crowd.

“We have a break coming up, and we’ll announce the shows for 2027 soon. But we only have two more this year, and then we’re gonna go and make this really special thing that we’ve been making for years and years, and it’s really good. But shush!.”

The “really special” project Chris hinted at is potentially the first Coldplay’s final two albums.

When speaking with NME following the release of their 10th album ‘Moon Music’, Chris stated that the plan for the band’s catalogue is to end after 12 albums.

“Yes, it is 12 albums for sure, but we’re going to be a bit later than [2025],” he explained. This lines up with the group’s return to the road in 2027, and suggests that their next LP could arrive that year or in 2026.

He went on to say: “Our last single is on this album [‘Moon Music’], and that’s called ‘All My Love’. That’s the last ‘single’ single. We have the musical thing, then an album just called ‘Coldplay’, which is the final one. I think that will be a year late – I know it will be.”

For Coldplay’s dates this year, ten per cent of their proceeds are being donated to the Music Venue Trust in order to help support grassroots venues.

Coldplay also had to reschedule two of their dates at Wembley Stadium due to the tube strikes.

On a statement on their website, they said it was “impossible” to get fans to and from Wembley Stadium without London Underground.

Coldplay said that instead of cancelling the shows altogether, they moved the September 7 show to September 6, and the September 8 show to September 12.

Coldplay will still play ten nights at Wembley Stadium, breaking the joint record set by Take That and Taylor Swift, despite these dates changing.

The ‘Music Of The Spheres’ tour is already the most-attended concert in history, according to Guinness World Records, with over 10 million tickets already sold.

According to their claims, Holmes borrowed $20 million (£16.3 million) from the promoter in 2015. Holmes has been instrumental in managing Coldplay’s recordings and live performances since their third studio album, X&Y, released in 2005. Throughout his tenure, he contributed to the successful production and release of seven albums and six tours, including the highly lucrative Music of the Spheres worldwide tour.

Additionally, Coldplay has accused Holmes of insufficiently overseeing and managing the financial aspects of the extensive 165-stop tour. Consequently, the band alleged they were burdened with the responsibility of covering expenses incurred for costly equipment that ultimately proved to be either unnecessary or unusable. They allege that the production of 16 custom-made stage pylons amounted to a staggering €10.6 million, yet they were never utilised throughout the tour. Similarly, they claim a visual projector named the Jet Screen, valued at £9.7 million, was allegedly constructed with incorrect dimensions and could only be employed for a mere 10 performances.

As per the lawsuit obtained by Billboard, Mr. Holmes has alleged that he was responsible for organising recording sessions, samples, and string arrangements for Coldplay’s 10th album and their potential 11th studio album release. Additionally, he has claimed that he is entitled to commission for the advances made towards Coldplay’s upcoming albums, including the £35m paid by Parlophone Records, a subsidiary of Warner Group, for their 10th album.

Fresh off of their announcement that the band will be taking their Music Of The Spheres World Tour through Europe for three additional runs, rumours that the band have also set aside a slot for Glastonbury are starting to gather pace. With Coldplay adding 16 new dates in Europe for the summer, a Glastonbury show is certainly not outside the realms of possibility, although no confirmation has been made by the band.

The newly announced European run will also include performances in Greece, Romania and Finland-three countries the band have never played in before. Unfortunately, the new dates do not include any UK shows but the band will wrap up their tour with two nights in Dublin.

Media outlets have been buzzing with excitement after it was noticed that the band have, perhaps conspicuously, left the dates from 26-30 June open, which is when Glastonbury will take place in 2024. Coldplay are certainly fond of what is one of the largest festivals in Europe, with the band playing its famous stages four times and Chris Martin, the band’s frontman, joining Kylie Minogue and Stormzy during their respective performances in 2019.

The band were also involved in the Live At Worthy Farm livestream in 2021 after the festival was cancelled due to covid. Adding to the growing speculation is also the hinted at release of a new album, titled Moon Music, sometime within the next year. The album is reportedly closley linked to Music Of The Spheres, with Martin commenting, “I wouldn’t say it’s a sequel but it’s related. It is its own thing but it will be part of this same tour. It’s like a cousin.”

Coldplay surprised many when, shortly after Music Of The Spheres was released in 2021, Martin announced that the band would release three more albums and then call it quits. With no set in stone timeframe for when these three releases will happen, fans can rest assured that Coldplay will be around for the foreseeable future and live performances will continue to be a major draw for concert-goers and the band alike.

Coldplay concerts have garnered rave reviews and high praise from critics in the past, with commentators often citing their ability to make huge venues feel as intimate as possible. The band have also recently been praised for their commitment to making their shows and tours more environmentally sustainable, producing lower carbon emissions than their previous tours. In an announcement made yesterday (December 22^nd), the clip was again broadcast on his Christmas show with Jo Wiley on BBC2, he said, “Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour,” adding, “maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then.”.

Although, this news shouldn’t surprise die-hard fans too much, in an interview with NME in October Martin set in stone, “We’re going to make 12 albums. Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too. I feel like because I know that challenge is finite, making this music doesn’t feel difficult, it feels like, ‘This is what we’re supposed to be doing”.  So, there we have it. The band released their 9^th effort Music of the Spheres earlier this year, and its reception was… fine. That means the plan is for 3 more, and now we have a date the band are aiming for. At the moment this is all based on Martin’s word, he may change his mind, they may release a few singles or EPs every once in a while… who knows. Presumably, their most recent live EP Infinity Station Sessions doesn’t count towards the list so we may expect more. See below a little teaser for the project.

Fans should not worry too much just yet though, the band are set to begin their 2022 world tour next March, but like many tours, there are yet to be any delays or rescheduled dates. Aside from their pulling out of the Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball last week (after crew members caught COVID-19), the tour that is hoping to be “almost entirely [powered] from clean, renewable energy“ is set to go ahead as planned. The batteries will replace diesel and gas generators which makes the shows more sustainable. The band shows will need 40 of those batteries in total. “A common awareness of sustainability has led during recent years to an intensive, creative co-creation process between BMW and Coldplay. With the use of second-life batteries from BMW i3 vehicles we are now helping Coldplay’s world tour become even more sustainable.” said Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer and Brand BMW. 

Coldplay is no stranger to pointing out environmental issues and how we all can “turn it around so it’s no so much taking as giving?“. Back in 2019, the band announced that they thinking about how to make the touring as environmentally friendly as possible. Speaking to BBC News reporter Chris Martin said: “We’re taking time to see how our tour can be actively beneficial…All of us have to work out the best way of doing our job.”

“Our next tour will be the best possible version of a tour like that environmentally. We would be disappointed if it’s not carbon neutral” he continued.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) recently sent an open letter to the band suggesting plant-based food served at their shows. All this is in order to put down carbon footprint.

Elisa Allen, the director of PETA wrote: “As you may know, animal agriculture contributes to many of the serious environmental problems the planet is facing”.

“It’s little wonder, then, that the United Nations states that a transition to vegan eating is urgently needed to prevent the worst effects of the climate crisis. And this can be as simple as swapping beef burgers for bean burgers” she added.

Last week Coldplay has announced their tour dates which will promote their latest album Music Of The Spheres that came out on 15th October. It is being said that the album will be their ninth number one in the UK Charts.

The tour will begin in March 2022 in Costa Rica, then head over to North America and end up in Europe and UK in July. The UK shows will include three London Wembley gigs. Fans from the US can register for tickets here, London and Glasgow shows can be pre-ordered here. Tickets to the UK shows go on sale on the 22nd October at 10 am.
