Paul Hartnoll from electronic duo Orbital and controversial poet Murray Lachlan released another single from their upcoming album called “Garden Centre“.

New track “parodies garden centres, paying homage to them as undevalued institrutions that helped to save our sanity and spotlighting them as one of the only options of legal escape during lockdown” – explains the press release.

“Garden Centre” is a fun and uplifting song with catching synth melodies. The perfect combination of Orbital’s production and humorously narratives of Young.

“In lockdown #1 I found peace in the local garden centre. I arrived feeling so grim from all the collective fear and worry. I left feeling like I’d had a chat with some wise ancestor who’d told me that everything was going to be alright in the end. The beauty was, I took some of those ancestors home with me and they still live just outside my door. Of course they are available for a chat whenever the need arises” said Young in a statement.

Our @BBC6music @shaunwkeaveny inspired trip through lockdown 1. Jogging and baking, Meditation, Shopping, haircuts, garden centres, etc, etc It’s an electro caberet- pop time capsule. https://t.co/zrFOac8V34

“Garden centres are the beating heart that feeds the arteries of the home garden. So much gentle happiness and peace relies on these humble establishments. I often buy freshly potted bedding plants from my favourite centre Rushfields. Get some Zen in your life at the garden centre” added Hartnoll.

The duo’s previous singles from the forthcoming album “The Virus Diaries” include “Home Schooling” and “I Need A Haircut” which came out in April. The latest track is a rap-infused song about the struggle to visit a hairdresser during the lockdown.

“Young briefly acknowledges social-distancing and social views, but the song is mostly about the need for a new hairdo, even considering a mullet, a buzz cut or frosted tips. Underneath the verses, Hartnoll’s instrumental features jazz chords and a funny funky horn tone”, more about it in the previous mxdwn article.

Hartnoll and Young also released “I’m going shopping“, a track about social distancing at grocery stores.

The forthcoming album, described by the artists as “Hartnoll & Young” is due 25th June and it captures Covid-19 feel and it’s “a surreal and poignantly lighthearted musical wander through the ever-shifting scene of the first lockdown“. “Garden Centre (Push The Trolley)” can be streamed here.
