The tour will kick off in Amsterdam on March 5 and will travel through Paris, London, Sydney, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Toronto before wrapping up in New York in March 2025. The confirmed dates are:

Members of Agora – the band’s fan community – will have access to a ticket pre-sale starting Thursday February 13. To participate, register for Agora here before Monday (February 10). General ticket sales will open at 10am on Friday February 14.

Not only does this Tour mark the folk rock band’s first set of gigs in the UK and Europe since 2018, but also highlights their commitment to social change. In partnership with PLUS1, the band will donate $1 from every ticket sold to War Child, an organisation focused on protecting and advocating for children affected by conflict.

The tour precedes their upcoming album ‘RUSHMERE’ on March 28, their first album in seven years. Following the debut of the title track, which charted in the Top 100 of the UK Singles Chart, the album will feature tracks like ‘Malibou’, ‘Monochrome’, ‘Truth’, and ‘Blood on the Page’. 

The new LP follows a period of change and innovation for the trio as it is their first since the departure of banjoist Winston Marshall, who left after facing backlash for supporting a book by right-wing US journalist Andy Ngo.

According to a press release, ‘RUSHMERE’ takes the trio back to their roots – reminiscing on the Wimbledon Common pond where the band’s formation began. Produced by Dave Cobb, a nine-time Grammy winner, the album promises to define the next chapter of the band’s sound.

The trio have expressed enthusiasm for the release of new material. In 2024, Lovett shared “It just feels so great to be sharing new music again after all these years.” Mumford added “I think we always felt like we knew we were going to release some more music, but we wanted to wait for the right music. We’ve never been in haste, I don’t think. But when this music came around, we had a sense of urgency.”

Ultimately, their intimate global tour sets the stage for ‘RUSHMERE’, an album that promises to launch Mumford and Sons into a fresh and exciting era. The anticipation surrounding the album and the tour highlights the band’s continued relevance and their ability to evolve musically while staying true to their roots.

First established in 1965 by Paul Rayment, Philip Abrams, George Scurfield, and Ken Woollard, the Cambridge Folk Festival was envisioned as a celebration of folk music and a means to preserve its cultural heritage. Since then, the festival has grown to become a cornerstone of the folk music scene, drawing renowned artists such as Joan Baez, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, and Mumford & Sons.

The decision follows financial losses incurred during the 2024 edition, reflecting broader struggles faced by music festivals across the UK. Rising production costs, the lingering economic impact of Brexit, and the cost-of-living crisis have led to the cancellation of over 71 independent festivals over 2024 alone. Organisers are calling for government support, lower VAT rates, and improved insurance schemes to help the industry recover. Despite these difficulties, demand for major festivals like Glastonbury remains strong, offering hope for a stronger economic future for smaller independents as well.

Despite the disappointment of the 2025 cancellation, organisers remain hopeful for the festival’s future. The council has emphasised its commitment to exploring innovative approaches that will allow the festival to return stronger in 2026. In a statement on the festival’s website they suggested that “throughout 2025 the festival will continue to support the folk community with a series of locally based events throughout Cambridge, with other initiatives to support local emerging youth and folk artists.”

Fans and artists alike have expressed their concerns over the festival’s hiatus, with many taking to social media to share their sadness, support, and hopes for its revival. As the folk music community faces mounting challenges, the Cambridge Folk Festival’s potential comeback in 2026 will be one to keep an eye on.

Celebrating over a decade of friendship and sporadic conversations while touring festivals, band members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane reconnected with the iconic producer turned fashion creative last summer during his Something In The Water Festival at Virginia Beach in North America.

After multiple songwriting sessions, the two camps went on to record the song together in New York and Paris. The track also features haunting backing vocals from a talented six-piece choir known as Native Vocalists, whose origins hail from Native American Tribes within the Great Northern Plains.

The uplifting, gospel-inspired track had its debut performance at Paris Fashion Week during Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Menswear Autumn/Winter 2024 runway show on January 16. The band was joined by Pharrell and the Native Vocalists in a special, one-off live set for all 1,300 attendees.

Proving to be a powerful tool for showcasing new music, the runway performance lies in situ with other live debuts curated by the producer. ‘Joy (Unspeakable)’, a collaboration between Williams and gospel choir Voices of Fire, was performed at his first Paris show last June, followed by a performance of ‘Airplane Tickets’ alongside Swae Lee and Rauw Alejandro at his pre-fall 2024 show in Hong Kong last November.

Although some fans might be surprised by the collaboration with the British trio, this isn’t the first time Williams has teamed up with artists from opposite ends of the spectrum, working with the likes of Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Beck, and Tame Impala.

Williams has also been informally credited as one of the driving forces behind Maggie Rogers’ career, as seen in a viral video of him listening to and praising her song ‘Alaska’ during a music majors’ workshop and masterclass at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University (NYU).

The renowned London band seem to be choosing their partnerships wisely, honing in on other artists who share a clear mutual respect for music. In October last year, the group teased unsuspecting fans at the Austin City Limits Music Festival by bringing on surprise guest Noah Kahan to perform a simplified rendition of unreleased track ‘Maybe’, another of what appears to be many impressive features on their upcoming album, their first since ‘Delta’ in 2018.

Adding to the excitement, the band welcomed surprise guest Noah Kahan to join them on stage. This remarkable performance was reported by The Austin-American Statesman, leaving fans in awe of the band’s talent and spontaneity.

Mumford & Sons is widely recognized as a folk rock band, known for their unique blend of bluegrass and folk instrumentation. Their music prominently uses acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, and double bass, all played with a rhythmic style that draws influences from alternative rock and folk genres.

In 2009, Mumford & Sons signed a deal with Island Records, marking a significant milestone in their career. The release of their single “Little Lion Man” that same year propelled them to new heights, quickly climbing the charts. This success was further solidified with the release of their debut studio album, Sigh No More. The album sold over a million copies in the United Kingdom.

Throughout their musical journey, Mumford & Sons have achieved numerous accolades and awards. Notably, Sigh No More earned the band the prestigious Brit Award for Best British Album in 2011, as well as a nomination for the esteemed Mercury Prize. Additionally, the band received six Grammy Award nominations, further cementing their status as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Their live performance at the 2011 Grammy ceremony alongside Bob Dylan and The Avett Brothers proved to be a pivotal moment, catapulting them into even greater popularity.

During the performance, the lead vocalist Marcus Mumford and Kahan exchanged vocals on a simplified ballad, with Mumford providing additional support on the electric guitar. Here are some of the lyrics they sang, “Maybe I’m halfway out the door, this wasn’t what I was expecting, maybe I’m spoiled, maybe I’m getting old, maybe I indulged too much before. This wasn’t what I was expecting.” before both artists harmonized together, “Will you stop your screamin’ just for a second, I really don’t care what you think, But I care how you feel. And I want to be there and in your arms, just sit here together for a time. Let’s watch the world go ’round, let’s watch the tykes with the light in their eyes.”

Mumford & Sons’ highly anticipated release of “Maybe” marks their first single since 2020, following the success of their fourth and latest studio album, Delta, which was released in 2018. Kahan proves to be a good debut match for Mumford and Sons with his musical repertoire encompassing 21st-century folk compositions. Lead vocalist Marcus Mumford had previously hinted at the band’s commencement of work on a new album in November of last year and had this to say, “I’ve got a bunch that are kind of ready to go. And then we’ll make a record, and tour it, and get to do what we love.”

Lovett has asked workers from various fields to come together with music fans in saving his beloved Omeara. In a statement on the Crowdfunder page, Lovett wrote that “in an effort to prevent the closure of Omeara and protect the wellbeing of our extended family, as well as ensuring we are still here on the other side of all of this to host artists again,” the venue will be offering experiences, merchandise, and more in exchange for donations.

He explained that “all proceeds will go directly to our staff and artists. Everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund.” With rewards ranging from £10 to £25,000, there is plenty of incentive to participate, if not only to save this incredible venue. With £9,000 already raised for Omeara, Ben Lovett recently opened new venue the Lafayette in a further attempt to keep the music industry open for  emerging artists. The musician himself  began performing around London in small, independent venues which have housed many more popular artists over the years. It is his hope, and the hope of music lovers around the UK, that we can continue to support both smaller artists and venues and appreciate them for their unique, high-quality experiences.

Lovett also showed his love and support for other musicians and record stores by sharing his favourite albums for Off the Record’s ‘Isolation Albums’ on their YouTube channel. His picks included No Doubt, Michael Kiwanuka, and Leiff Vullebekk.

Supported by UK singer-songwriter Frank Turner, the Music Venue Trust has confirmed that, thanks to the help of fans, artists, and staff, 140 venues have been protected from closure due to the coronavirus. The Save Our Venues campaign has raised over £1 million, while their target is £1.5 million, so head to their page to keep donating.

Stanford Live and the Cox Centre for Steinbeck Studies, at SJSU announced that Mumford and Sons – consisting of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwane – are this year’s recipients of the John Steinbeck Award. The band will be hounoured, at a special event, at Stanford University’s Bing Concert Hall, on Wednesday the 18th of September 2019, at 7:30pm. The award ceremony will feature a conversation with the band as well as an acoustic performance. Tickets for the ceremony went on sale yesterday (Friday August 09).

The prestigious John Steinbeck Award was founded, in 1996, and every year it is awarded to an artists, writer, thinker, or activist – who embodies the “empathetic spirit and values” of John Steinbeck, author of ‘The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men’.

The decision to award Mumford and Sons the John Steinbeck Award was based, in part, on the band’s commitment to social engagement through the Gentlemen of the Road fund, which was founded in 2006 and supports local and global charities fighting for social justice.

The band also paid tribute to Steinbeck, back in 2012 with a performance, “in the heart of Steinbeck country”, titled ‘Mumford and Sons in Monterey: A Salute to John Steinbeck’. The band are now set to honour Steinbeck again, in a performance that marks the centennial of his enrolment at Stanford University and the 80th anniversary of the publication of his novel ‘The Grapes of Wrath’.

“Mumford and Sons can also be linked to John Steinbeck through their music, especially songs such as ‘Timshel,’ ‘Dust Bowl Dance,’ and ‘Rose of Sharon,’ and through their advocacy of Steinbeck’s writings,” said Ted Cady, chair of the Steinbeck Award committee.

The band performed the track in Trent Reznor’s hometown at the Quicken Loans Arena. ‘Hurt‘ was released as part of Nine Inch Nails’ second album ‘The Downward Spiral‘ which celebrated its 25th year anniversary last Friday (8th March). The song has become one of the band’s most recognisable songs, which is partly due to Johnny Cash’s notable 2002 cover.

The song was met with loud applause from the Cleveland audience and despite the original’s dark and creepy atmosphere being far from Mumford and Sons warm and uplifting sound, the band was successful in adapting the track into a sweeping piano and guitar ballad.

Mumford and Sons have been announced as the final headliner for this years All Points East festival in London’s Victoria Park on June 1st. They will be supported by other big names such as Dizzee Rascal, Leon Bridges and The Vaccines.

They have said that they will be taking a “considerable amount of time off” having finished up their American tour with a show in Kansas on Friday (September 20th). In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine the band said they were looking forward to having some much deserved time off. Keyboard player Ben Lovett revealed “There won’t be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future following Friday’s show.”

Having shot to fame in late 2009 following the release of debut album Sigh No More which spawned the massive singles Little Lion Man and The Cave, it seemed as if everyone in the country had been drawn under their spell, combining catchy indie melodies with simple folk rock jingles. Babel followed in 2012, giving the quartet a number one record in both the UK and US, as well as a grammy award for best album. They then embarked on a huge world tour, including a headline slot at the prestigious Glastonbury festival earlier this year.

When asked about how much time they were planning on taking off, Lovett replied, “We have no idea. We just know we’re going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that. It feels like the last week of school right now, before school holiday when you’re in high school. The atmosphere on the road is one of… I think everyone’s excited about being free of schedules.”

It isn’t clear what each member will be doing during their time off as well, not revealing whether they would be taking part in a new musical adventure. Lovett said “We’re just going to rest up. I don’t think we’ve had actually much time in the process to be with other people and living a life outside of the band. I think that’s what’s in place at the moment, to do very little – especially when it comes to Mumford & Sons.”
