Colin Parks, the mastermind behind the electrifying death metal band Ghosts of Atlantis, took to social media in search of a unique twist for their upcoming album, eager to infuse their music with a mesmerizing blend of haunting melodies and powerful vocals. Soon to respond was Yula Andrews, a brilliant conductor hailing from the town of Framlingham, Suffolk, offering her pop choir’s enchanting harmonies. The collaboration was put into motion to create a thrilling and diverse sound for Ghosts of Atlantis’s second album.

In a harmonious collaboration, the choir and the death metal band joined forces and recorded three captivating tracks together. The village hall in the county became a sanctuary of creativity as forty choir members lent their voices to the band’s new tunes for the mesmerizing Riddles of the Sycophants album.

Since then, the band has been on an exhilarating musical journey, captivating audiences across Europe with their symphonic melodies. From enchanting performances in France, Switzerland, Germany, to the captivating landscapes of Finland, Ghosts of Atlantis has left an indelible mark on the hearts of their listeners.

Colin Parks said, “You think death metal and stuff, you think maybe some alcohol, but it was tea and hobnobs.” He went on to say, “They are a community choir, and we are obviously from Suffolk as well, and it was nice that two worlds collided to do something a bit unique that no-one else was really doing. It has given fans a chance to listen to something that our fans wouldn’t have normally experienced and vice versa and I think we have seen quite a nice crossover which breaks down barriers and that was important.”

Pop Chorus director Yula Andrews said, “We’re always trying to create memorable experiences for our singers…sometimes opportunities you’ve never even dreamed of jump out at you. I couldn’t resist putting us forward to record with Ghosts Of Atlantis. Our singers are always keen to embrace a new challenge!”

With a staggering fan base of over 6,000 followers on Instagram, the band’s popularity continues to soar. Their second album, accompanied by the enchanting harmonies of the Pop Chorus, was released just last week. The pop choir featured on “Lands of Snows”, “Empires Burn at Dawn”, and title track from the album “Riddles of the Sycophants”

London based, multi-instrumentalist A. A. The artist has also announced an upcoming tour of the UK and Europe with Kalandra in late Autumn.

No stranger to covering a wide range of artists and genres, releasing an album of them back in 2021 titled, Songs From Isolation, A. A. Williams is often quite open about her influences and the artists she admires. Placebo appears to be one right at the top of her wish list, as the classically trained musician has now covered one of Placebo’s singles and title track off of their second album, Without You I’m Nothing.

Speaking on her take of the song, Williams said, “when I first discovered Placebo as a teen, I felt as if I’d found a world just for me. Barely a day went by without their songs in my headphones, their explorations of angst, frustration and alienation speaking to me like nothing I’d heard before… Simultaneously brand new and familiar, I felt that I’d been understood for the first time, all the while being fed with musical styles I wasn’t familiar with – glam, goth, electro and punk were all introduced to me through Placebo’s melancholy lens.

I’ve dreamed of covering a Placebo song for years. I think it always had to be “Without You I’m Nothing”, a song of longing and loss that for me will always feel current and relevant, as someone who always felt that human connection was the key to happiness – and as an outsider looking in, as someone uncomfortable in their own skin.”

Placebo’s song, perhaps notable for featuring backing vocals by David Bowie, was a huge critical and popular hit with fans and became a staple in the band’s live set up until 2012 where it has been performed more sporadically, in part due to the band’s insistence of not playing ‘hit’ songs during live sets. The song however, provides the perfect tone and emotional gravitas for an artist of A. A. Williams’ capabilities and her version is sure to be a hit with her audiences.

An upcoming North American tour with Sleep Token will undoubtedly open doors to whole new sets of admirers for Williams and, with her unique blend of strings and guitars, the artist continues to gain attention from listeners of all genres. Williams will be embarking on a co-headlining tour of the UK and Europe with Kalandra this November and December. Tickets can be purchased here.

About three days ago we got smacked in the face by a raw genuinity from the beloved UK rapper, Slowthai, known for his gruesome, but admired, attitude toward himself and the world around him. On the 3rd of March the grime artist dropped his third album acutely, yet accurately, named UGLY.

Slowthai has never shied from speaking his thunderous mind. Ever since his first studio album Nothing Great About Britain in 2019, the rapper has lavished with ground shifting points of view in order to not commit to a repressed storyteller. He has stemmed from a UK rap/Hip Hop sound which has smoothly evolved into a more alternative-rock, post-punk direction which couldn’t suit him better.

Throughout his artistic career, he has barked out outlawed pleasures as well as Britain’s most disappointing deeds as a country. What fans most love about the Northampton artist is how his childish personality reflects in his sound. At the end of the day, he is just a lad from the Northampton dumps, having had to rely on creative experiments as a main source of entertainment. Throughout his first two album releases, he speaks a truthful mind on what rages him about the nasty sides of life, learning how to deal with your own stuff as well as expressing a bagful of repressed feelings.

He intimately welcomes us into his typhoon of an album UGLY, flirting between a busy post-punk feel and some electronic synth mashings. An album that brings us closer to his true self more than ever before. Encapsulated perfectly by the name, his reality, he demonstrates, is not close to pretty. This doesn’t mean, however, he is not following an aim towards a more positive message in his songs, as he mentioned to The Fader, and proved with songs such as “Momentary Bliss“. Through genuine and gruesome thoughts, he details the inklings that many other people can relate to as well as learning how to love yourself. Not to mention the art of blissfully not giving a f–k.

Unlike his other releases, this is a collaboration-free album, enhancing a reflection within his self determination mentioned throughout the piece, as he tends to delve into a genre-mashing collaborative ride. This is a quest to find happiness by being as honest as possible and staying true to himself, no matter how much of a ruckus he creates around him.

UGLY was released on the 3rd March through the California based label Interscope Records. Alongside this, an UGLY world tour has been announced for the end of the year, starting on the 20th of September in Glasgow running until the 30th of September finalising in Brussels. Tickets went on sale on the 28th February.
