Metronomy treated their fans this week with the release of new single “Things will be fine” accompanied by its own music video. This release anticipates their upcoming album, Small World, set for a February 18th release date. Their first album since Metronomy Forever back in 2019, Small World will be the band’s seventh album to date. Watch the new music video for “Things will be fine” below:

“Things will be fine” is the second promotional single to be released to date, following “It’s good to be back”, which too had its own music video released back in October 2021. Where “It’s good to be back” was a Chicago house/indie hybrid – somewhere between Frankie Knuckles and Arcade Fire – “Things will be fine” is a more traditional return to form, remaining comfortably within the confines of indie. Basking in simple pleasures, the new single basks in the same optimism as the previous, setting the tone for a feel-good album in Small Worlds.

The video meanders through the avenues of teenage nostalgia; as frontman Joseph Mason decribes, it’s “sort of pseudo role-play therapy session in which we all re-visit our teenage selves. Everyone ended up more scarred than they did before making it…apart from Michael and his f*#king guinea pigs.” This sort of meditative nostalgia has become a familiar feeling in the last two years, a feeling that Metronomy are tapping into with the most recent singles.

The album is currently available for pre-order and can be purchased here. Have a look at the album art and tracklist below:

Electronic pop group Metronomy have announced that they will be performing at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris on 22nd November. They will be appearing alongside other popular acts, such as Cassandra Jenkins and Sons of Kemet. The band announced a one-off performance at the Louis Vuitton Foundation on their social media.

The band, which was founded by lead member Joseph Mount, started out in 1999, with Mount making music in his bedroom, before expanding his act into the group it is today. The other members include Michael Lovett (on keyboards and guitar), Olugbenga Adelekan (on bass guitar and vocals), Anna Prior (on drums and vocals), and Mount’s cousin Oscar Cash (on saxophone, guitars and keyboards).

The announcement seems to be one of many signs indicating increased activity for the group, ever since postponing their Metronomy Forever European tour dates due to the pandemic. Since then, the band have released a new EP, September’s Posse EP Volume 1, which saw them collaborating with artists such as Irish singer Biig Piig, rapper Brian Nasty, and the Indie band Folly Group.

They have also released a music video for their new single, “It’s Good to Be Back”. Mount describes it as simply being ‘all about how good it is to be back’. The video, which was directed by Dreamjob duo Jack Whiteley and Joe Wills, shows the band playing about in a woodland setting. Rolling Stone magazine reports it as showing ‘the band members living out a Groundhog Day scenario of dying and then living the same thing over and over’. It comes from their soon-to-be-released new album, Small World, which is due on February 18th. It will be the band’s seventh album, following up 2019’s well-received Metronomy Forever. For fans ever more eager to see the band play, tomorrow (November 11th) they are due to play a live-streamed event at London’s Colour Factory, which is available through tickets only. The band call it ‘an album launch show’, saying ‘we’re gonna be playing loads of great new songs, loads of great old songs, we’re gonna be dressed to impress, and we’re gonna be having the time of our lives’.

Metronomy have announced a 2022 tour with shows in Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Torquay, Bristol, Oxford, and finishing in London with a huge headline gig at the historic Alexandra Palace. The electronic pop band will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2011 album The English Riviera. Metronomy’s landmark third studio album was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2011.

The group was formed in 1999 as a bedroom project for Joseph Mount, and since then has evolved through various iterations and several line-ups. The English Riviera was released after the departure of Gabriel Stebbing and the formation of what has become known as Metronomy 2.0. The new band features former Lightspeed Champion drummer Anna Prior and bassist Olugbenga Adelekan.

Their gold-certified third album continues to define the group’s sound. The English Riviera is being reissued in celebration of its anniversary. The band released their sixth LP, Metronomy Forever, in 2019 to high ratings and generally favourable reviews. Speaking to NME to discuss the 10th anniversary of The English Riviera, Mount had this to say: “When we perform ‘The Look’ live and I hear thousands of people chanting the bit that gets stuck in your head back at me, der-de-der-der, it often brings a tear to my eye. It really is amazing what that seaside song and this whole album has done for Metronomy.”

The group took to Twitter to announce the tour. “Here we go again! Bad news/good news etc etc etc. Even though things are beginning to look MUCH more positive than they have done for the past year, we’re rescheduling our tour…for the last time… Smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat” The newly announced dates roll off the back of previously announced European tour dates that were rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The organisers of the ‘Passport’ fundraiser have confirmed today (September 10th) that Metronomy are set to perform in Brighton nightclub, Patterns, whilst Jamie xx will be playing at Corsica Studios, situated in Elephant and Castle in London.

Confirmed acts for the fundraising event include Everything Everything, The Slow Reader’s Club, and The Pet Shop Boys. However, dates for Metronomy, Jamie xx, or the other gigs in the series remain unconfirmed. Organisers have also maintained that they will only move forward once social distancing measures are no longer required within independent music venues.

Jamie xx, real name James Smith, took to social media to announce his support for Grassroots venues. Posting details of the campaign’s prize draw to Instagram, Jamie xx spoke on how the fundraiser has struck a personal chord for his own beloved music venue.

Metronomy followed suit and also announced their support of ‘Passport: Back To Our Roots’ on Instagram today. Metronomy, like Jamie xx, have not forgotten their roots, writing nostalgically “We last played at patterns Brighton (then Audio) in 2008 with @thexx. It just goes to show how important small venues are in building the careers of band like ours.” Obtaining over 2,000 likes, fans were quick to support Metronomy’s decision to play the important benefit gig.

Tickets to a ‘Passport’ gig are hard to come by, the only chance being an entry in the prize draw with a minimum donation of £5. The prize draw will begin on September 14th and run for three weeks until October 5th. Each week, fans will be entered into the draw, and winners will be able to attend the concert of their choice.

Metronomy lead guitarist Joe Mount recently spoke on how Grassroots venues are integral and can be career-making for musicians, both rising stars and legacy artists. Mount declared that “These small venues aren’t just the modest beginnings for bands that make it big. They also supply performance spaces for choirs and theatre groups, for example.”

Southampton Joiners, Brighton Freebutt, and Leeds Cockpit were all vital venues for Metronomy when they were rising stars themselves. Mount stressed that preservation of Grassroots venues is paramount, adding “We have already reaped the rewards of performing in the intimate surroundings that places like Patterns in Brighton provide.”

The organisers of Bluedot Festival have announced that this year’s event has been cancelled, due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic. The four day festival will now take place between July 22 and July 25 2021.

Originally set to be held this year from July 23 to July 26, at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, in Cheshire, Bluedot’s organisers have now been forced to act as the coronavirus crisis continues. Bluedot is the latest festival to announce its cancellation following a string of similar announces from the UK’s biggest festivals and music events.

“Our teams have been working with partners and authorities to assess the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the festival. Although bluedot may still seem some time away, the virus and its associated effects are unlikely to ease for some months and it is important to us that any additional or unnecessary strain on medical services is avoided,” the organisers said in a statement, which can be seen in full below.

The statement continued: “This decision has been a necessary but difficult one to make as it affects not only our wonderful bluedot family of festival-goers and staff but also a large number of artists, performers, speakers, suppliers, traders and freelancers, many of whom have been hit hard during this period. Within our limited means, we will continue to do everything we can to support them and the wider sector during these difficult times.”

This year’s three headliners – Metronomy, Björk, and Groove Armada – have all confirmed their appearances at next year’s festival. They are set to be joined by many other artists and speakers from this year’s line-up.

The next Bluedot Festival will take place between July 22-25, 2021. Björk, Groove Armada and Metronomy will top the bill, while Bluedot say they are “working to transfer as many of 2020’s artists and speakers to Bluedot 2021 as possible”.

Among the tther acts, who were set to appear at Bluedot 2020 includ Spiritualized, Roisin Murphy, Squarepusher, Tangerine Dream, Ride, Daniel Avery, EOB (the solo project of Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien), Pussy Riot and Chk Chk Chk. Tickets for this year’s festival will automatically be transferred to 2021, but any ticketholders who can’t attend the 2021 festival will be entitled to a full refund on their ticket and any extras, including boutique camping.

“We are happy to confirm that our three Lovell Stage headliners – Björk, Groove Armada and Metronomy – will join us on these new dates, and we are working to transfer as many of 2020’s artists and speakers to bluedot 2021 as possible, alongside new additions.

Metronomy have revealed details of their upcoming album, ‘Metronomy Forever’, which will be arriving, in September 2019, as well as sharing their brand new track, ‘Salted Caramel Ice Cream’. The five-piece announced that their brand new album, ‘Metronomy Forever’ will be hitting shelves, on the 13th of September 2019, via Because Music.

Discussing the new album, in a statement, frontman Joseph Mount said: “What happens is when you’re making music and you enter a world where you have achieved some sort of celebrity no matter how large or small you start to think about yourself in terms of legacy and what you’re going to leave behind and then you realise that’s limited to the interest people have in you. In the end I feel completely comfortable with it. The less importance you place in any art the more interesting it can become in a way…I’m making music, I’m going to do some concerts, I need to feed my children.”

Accompanying the news of their forthcoming album, which is the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Summer 08′, was the band’s latest track, ‘Salted Caramel Ice Cream’, which is the second to be taken from the upcoming album, ‘Metronomy Forever’. The follow-up to 2016’s ‘Summer 08′, ‘Metronomy Forever, will also feature the previously shared single, ‘Lately’, which was released, last month, and was their first track in three years.

Arriving with the new track was a video, which was directed by Mount. Speaking about his idea for the video, Mount said: “Years ago a friend of mine gave me a VHS tape of the MTV show ‘120 Minutes’. It’s something I’d get him to do every so often as I was a bit obsessed with music TV at the time. On one particular tape was the video for ‘Sonne’ by Rammstein, I’d never seen them before and it blew my mind. This video is a sort of homage to that, but with an added story about the gentrification of ice cream parlours.”

The album will feature the previously releases single, ‘Lately’, as well as the brand new single, ‘Salted Caramel Ice Cream’. The upcoming album, which will be released, on the 13th of September 2019, will feature 17 tracks in total.

The announcement comes as the band, consisting of frontman Joseph Mount; Oscar Cash; Anna Prior; Olugbenga Adelekan; and Michael Lovett, are getting ready to hit the road on their European tour, which will see them arrive in the UK, in November 2019. Tickets for the tour will go on general sale, on the 28th of June 2019, at 9am, and be purchased here.

Swedish dance queen Robyn has today finally announced details about her upcoming album- her first project in over eight years. The album will be titled Honey, and is currently slated for release on October 26.

Honey will feature collaborations with Metronomy’s Joseph Mount, longtime collaborator Klas Ålund, Kindess’ Adam Bainbridge, Mr. Tophat, and Zhala. The first single from Honey was the recently dropped ‘Missing U’ which made it’s debut on HBO’s Girls.

Robyn has described the album’s mood as “this sweet place, like a very soft ecstasy”, elaborating: “I danced a lot when I was making it. I found a sensuality and a softness that I don’t think I was able to use in the same way before. Everything just became softer.”

The album’s announcement came through a message on Robyn’s official Twitter, where she explained “really can’t wait for you to hear it. It’s a personal album, and there are so many things that happened throughout making it that it’s really hard for me to explain in one go. I think the best way is for you to listen to it.”

My new album Honey will be released on the 26th of October, sign up to pre-order and pre-save here https://t.co/iZU9YaHRKc pic.twitter.com/3SSztu4uyC

Earlier this year, Robyn admitted that the new record started out with her working alone, rather than in tandem with collaborators as she has in the past. She said that gave her space to “get in touch with a sensuality and a softness” that she’s wanted to explore in her music.

Swedish songstress Robyn has given her fans an exciting update, in regards to her next album.

Robyn hasn’t released any new music for bordering on eight years, with her last album coming in the form of 2010’s Body Talk, and fans have been anxious to hear news from her on any new music for quite some time. Since then she has made a few guest appearances, such as on Todd Rundgren’s track ‘That Could Have Been Me’, but the clamour has been for her to release a solo, full length LP.

In a Twitter exchange (seen below), a fan put the question to Robyn about new music, and to the surprise of many, she responded. When asked who is responsible for determining the record’s release date, she replied “I do. Some time this year honey”.

I do. Some time this year honey

— Robyn (@robynkonichiwa) February 7, 2018

Whilst there has been a lack of music in recent times, Robyn has been far from quiet, and last year, she joined her compatriots Zara Larsson, First Aid Kit, and Tove Lo, in signing a letter decrying sexual abuse in Sweden’s music industry.

Th letter was published in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter last week, and reads: “We demand zero tolerance for sexual exploitation or violence. Sexual assault or violence will have consequences in terms of terminations of contracts. We will put shame back where it belongs—with the perpetrators and the people protecting them.”

In 2017, Metronomy frontman Joe Mount revealed that he was a potential collaborator on Robyn’s new album, telling NME “I’ve been working with people on my own stuff, some new stuff, and I’m off to see Robyn in March to try and do some stuff with her.

“I’ve just been a bit of family man recently…but every time I do something with Robyn I get very excited, so hopefully I’ll be heavily involved in her next record but we’ll see.

Metronomy have announced via their official website that they will be hitting the road next year to promote their critically acclaimed Summer 08 album, released early this year. It’s been nearly two years since Joe Mount and his band mates have been on tour, and the initial trio of gigs will stop at Glasgow, Manchester, and London.

In July, Mount spoke to NME about the reasoning and writing of Summer 08, claiming that the album’s “started as a joke[…] I thought, “I’m gonna release this record called ‘Summer 2008’ and it’s going to be about all the things I could have done had I not been having a great time touring.”

Eight years on and things are very different for the band and it’s members, according to Mount;”I’ve got kids, Gbenga’s had a baby, Oscar’s moved to America, Anna’s… doing yoga.” explaining why the band aren’t able to tour as extensively as in previous years, but still reiterating that Metronomy have “no desire to slow down making records” which will inevitably bring further dates.

The tour dates for this May are below. Tickets are on sale from 9am on Friday.

Tue May 16 2017 – Glasgow O2 ABC
Wed May 17 2017 – Manchester Albert Hall
Fri May 19 2017 – LondonO2 Academy Brixton
