Hotel prices have been rising drastically in Birmingham in anticipation for Black Sabbath’s farewell concert “Back To The Beginning” which will be taking place in July. The concert, now fully sold out, was announced earlier this month and includes a lineup of metal icons which will be gracing the Villa Park stage to bid farewell to the Black Sabbath stars, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, whom will be reuniting to say goodbye to each other and to fans, playing their first show together in over twenty years.

The concert will also include a small set from Ozzy Osbourne himself, and will be closed by the iconic band. The lineup also includes musicians from around the world will also be on hand to pay tribute, including Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), David Draiman (Disturbed), Duff McKagan & Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Jake E Lee, Jonathan Davis (Korn), K.K. Downing, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Mike Bordin (Faith No More), Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian (Anthrax), II (Sleep Token), Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Wolfgang Van Halen, and Zakk Wylde.

Because the concert, which is already sold out, will draw an extensive amount of people to Birmingham, Birmingham Live reports that hotels near Villa Park, where the legendary metal band will perform their final show on July 5, have increased their rates by as much as 725%.

The article offers a comparison of The Apollo Hotel on Hagley Road, which is a prime example of this surge. A ‘superior’ double room without breakfast was listed at £619 for the night of the concert on Hotels.com. In contrast, the same room for the previous Saturday, booked through the same platform, was priced at just £75.

Birmingham Live also notes a Travelodge at Broadway Plaza, 14 minutes from the venue, where a room priced at £53.99 on June 28 surges to £319.99 on July 5. Likewise, in Yardley, a 22-minute drive from Villa Park, a Travelodge room that costs £47.99 the week before Back to the Beginning will rise to £303.99 on the night of the event.

According to the BBC, when tickets went on sale on February 14, the online queue exceeded 60,000 people—far more than Villa Park’s 42,000-seat capacity. Those who managed to secure a spot faced ticket prices ranging from £200 to several thousand pounds.

American metal band Beartooth have announced a European/UK tour for the Autumn of next year. The band will be playing Academy sized venues across the continent, opening with a show at Columbiahalle in Berlin, Germany on October 10th of next year and commencing the tour in Hamburg on November 2nd. Tickets can be found here.

Beartooth will be playing shows in Germany, Austria and France before heading into the UK at the 02 Academy in Birmingham for two nights on October 21st and 22nd. The band will then head to Manchester’s 02 Victoria Warehouse for two nights on October 24th and 25th before rounding out the UK portion of their tour with a show at London’s Alexandra Palace on October 26th.

The band toured the UK earlier this year in March, even relocating their scheduled show at Brixton Academy to Wembley Arena in the wake of Brixton Academy losing their live music license due to the unfortunate deaths at an Asake show.

Founding band member Caleb Shomo said: “It has been so long since we have done a headliner in Europe. I can’t wait to show everybody what we’ve been working on for the last 18 months, they will be some of the biggest shows of our career to date and will be some of the best shows we have ever played in our lives!”

Beartooth are currently gearing up to release their upcoming album, The Surface, which is set for release next Friday (October 13th) – following up 2021’s Below.

Caleb Shomo has previously talked about the album, as a couple of months ago he said: “I just want it to be completely different than anything else I’ve done before. Making this record, truly, it’s just something I never thought was going to happen in my life, candidly. I’ve talked about it in other albums, I’ve talked about it pretty openly in interviews, the dark side of what I deal with sometimes, I felt like has always been at the forefront and been the most powerful energy in my life.”

Previously about the new album, he has said: “This album is the story of my beginnings in the new world I’ve created for myself. One focused on health, self-love, positivity, understanding, hard work, and most of all second chances. At the end of the day, life is short for all of us. We can’t escape the end, so why not make friends with it and live in a world focused on living a personally fulfilling life?”

London-based prog metal collective Dawnwalker took to Twitter today to announce the release of their new album House of Sand. The collective is led by songwriter Mark Norgate, their music blending heavy rock and metal with an experimental edge. Not a band to repeat themselves, Dawnwalker features a rotating group of musicians to produce something dark, cryptic and atmospheric. Click here to purchase House of Sand.

Addressing the mercurial nature of their process, the band said in the press release for the album: “House of Sand marks a significant change away from the post and folk metal influences of Dawnwalker’s last LP Ages for something darker and more difficult to pin down”. Watch the video for the first track off the album, “R.I.P“, below.

Addressing the pastoral album cover, they continued: ”As pictured on Mitchell Nolte’s cover painting, the album is set against a backdrop of idyllic suburbs and the darkness that may be lurking beneath”. References to the darker side of the human psyche and of human nature run throughout the album. Talking about, “Demon of Noontide”, the second song of the album, they say once it is “contracted gradually destroys all in its path”.

Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Mansun’s 1998 prog opera “Six” are just a few examples of musical touchstones from the British indie and progressive rock canon, yet these influences are combined with a contemporary heavy sensibility to create a distinctive sound all of its own. The band saying, “It might be thought of as something akin to the lovechild of Opeth and Kate Bush”.

Coming in with a run time of 43 minutes, this is their shortest album by a long way, but that doesn’t mean that each of the thirteen songs isn’t packed with the band’s usual flair for inventiveness.

Talking about the sound they wanted for the new album, the band revealed in the statement: “Together with Joe Clayton of No Studio, they wanted to get away from the overproduced sound of modern metal and computer-generated artifice. As such, no click tracks or synthesized instruments were used at all on the album. Instead, an ensemble of eight musicians wielding acoustic guitars, piano, violins and four vocalist performed whole takes live in the room, choosing to make a feature of their imperfections rather than airbrush them away. The end result is Dawnwalker’s darkest but most human and affecting album to date”.

Metal Injection gave the album 8.5 stars saying: “House of Sand is a mesmerizing journey brimming with countryside chaos and literary meditations…There’s a classiness and scholarliness to it all that keeps you coming back for more, allowing the group to sustain their place amongst the top acts in their field”.

Dawnwalker are:
Chris J. Allan – Drums
Matteo Bianciotto – Guitars, Vocals
Dane Cross – Vocals
Mina Jackson – Piano
Robin Melinda Koob – Violin
Mark Norgate – Vocals, Guitars
Roisin O’Toole – Vocals
and featuring Alastair Mitchell as “The Master”

Richmond, Virginia based metal outfit Municipal Waste are back with a new album and single in tow. Electrified Brain is out on July 1st via Nuclear Blast, and has been fronted with their latest single, “Grave Dive“, which can be heard below. It’ll be the group’s seventh studio LP in a musical career that’s lasted over twenty years, following on from 2017’s Slime and Punishment.

The album was reportedly produced by Arthur Rizk, and features cover art by James Bousema. Despite the years behind them, it doesn’t seem like they’ve mellowed with age. Vocalist Tony Foresta reportedly wants his audience to “walk away with some bloody ears, blown speakers, pissed off parents, black eyes, and a healthy distrust of authority“, using their special brand of “hardcorepunkmetal“ to do the dirty work.

And it sounds like they deliver on this promise, with “high-voltage non-stop masterclass of neck-snapping thrash that’d be the ideal soundtrack for high-speed car chases and backyard steel cage matches” being just some of the phrases used to describe the record.

As for their latest single, “Grave Dive“, Foresta describes it as “an inspirational song for our fans to cause bodily harm to themselves, but in a loud and healthy way, of course.“

The quintet (which is made up of Foresta on vocals, Ryan Waste/Nick Poulos on guitar, Philip Hall on bass and Dave Witte on drums) have been together since 2001 and have been making this fact known about town ever since. Among some of the accolades they’ve received include a place on Decibel’s Hall of Fame for their The Art of Partying (2007), an album which Loudwire declared “The Best Thrash Album of 2007”.

If you want to pre-order the new album, you can look here. The tracklist for Electrified Brain can be seen below. As for seeing them live, a tour supporting the new album has already begun in America, and they’ll be reaching us in September (as can be seen below).
