Stormzy is always giving back to his community and this upcoming event will see the Croydon superstar host a Christmas party in his hometown. The event was announced by Croydons Fairfield halls where the event will be held, the venue posted the event poster alongside a caption that read, ”We are very excited #Merky Foundation and #Stormzy are throwing a Christmas event on December 3rd for the community of Croydon here at Fairfield Halls. To register you must be a Croydon Resident”.

The event will be Stormzy and the Merky foundations first-every Christmas party and will be free of charge but only available to residents of the croydon borough. There is a limit on tickets with only 4 being available per household.

Fairfields halls shared the event on their website and described the day as, “a chance for the Croydon community to enjoy a day out and have a chance to win some very special prizes. The party, founded by an abundance of generous donors, will include a plethora of activities including games, performances, tombola, workshops and more with Stormzy also being present to join in the fun”

Today is the last day to register for tickets, with the event having been split into 2 different time slots. The first slot will be for those aged 4 and over beginning at 4:30 until 6:30 and the second for those aged 10 and over between 7:00 and 9:30.

The Merky book’s team will be donating 500 copies of their first children’s book, Superheroes: Inspiring stories of secret strength, which is a collection of modern-day heroes created by the Merky founder Stormzy. The author and performance poet Sophia Thakur will be performing during the event and the illustrator Denzell Dankwah will run drop in drawing workshops for children throughout the day.

The Merky Christmas party is set to take place on the 3rd of December at Fairfield Hall, with tickets available to register for Croydon residents here.

His statement has pointed blame at both the Tory and Labour parties in the interview, where he added, “not much has changed for the people who need it the most.”

He further said: “It might just be how man has grown up, and my heart and my character and all that, but you don’t fool man. Man will always rather someone with clean intention to do that job.”

Last year, he spoke out about the result of the General Election, saying it felt like a “dark cloud”, with the Conservative Party taking a majority win.

Speaking to Radio 1 Xtra, the ‘Vossi Bop’ rapper was promoting his second album ‘Heavy Is The Head’, as updates reached him of the election.

“As soon as it hit midnight I was signing albums. But it was like a dark cloud, you could feel it,” the rapper said. “It’s in the air,” he added. “It’s in your bones”.

He also backed Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn for the position in 10 Downing Street, describing Corbyn as “the first man in a position of power who is committed to giving the power back to the people and helping those who need a helping hand from the government the most.”

On the flip side of things, he called Boris Johnson a “sinister man”. Stormzy’s latest album, ‘Heavy Is The Head’, was released on December 13, featuring singles ‘Own It’, featuring Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran, and his most recent releases, ‘Sounds of the Skeng’, ‘Crown’, and his number one single ‘Vossi Bop’.

His most recent single, ‘Audacity’ features Headie One, as seen below in the official music video.

He recently backed Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn for the position in 10 Downing Street ahead of today’s result, of which he said, “As soon as it hit midnight I was signing albums. But it was like a dark cloud, you could feel it,”

“It’s in the air,” he added. “It’s in your bones”.

Prior to the Conservative’s runaway win, the Vossi Bop hitmaker described Corbyn as “the first man in a position of power who is committed to giving the power back to the people and helping those who need a helping hand from the government the most.”

However, he described Boris Johnson as a “sinister man”.

The rapper went further, stating Johnson had a “long record of lying and policies that have absolutely no regard for the people that our government should be committed to helping and empowering.”

Away from the politics, a track from his next album, ‘Heavy Is The Head’ features the iconic Tracey Beaker theme tune. He sings lyrics sampled from Keisha White’s ‘Someday’, the theme to the hit series. It aired from 2002 to 2005.

Social media reactions to the sample from the hit theme have been positive, as seen in a couple of tweets above.

More recently, Stormzy released his latest single, ‘Own It’, featuring Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran on November 21. The single was released on Friday 21. It can be heard through the Youtube link below.
