American starlet Sky Ferreira has revealed her plans to tour the UK next year, and tickets are now available. The 31-year-old musician, who has yet to release her sophomore album following a string of pushbacks, will make waves when she returns to the UK in March 2024.

The singer shared the news on her Instagram and was met with a mixed reception.

The post, which has over 30,000 likes, left many fans divided over the announcement. The official Bratz page commented: “OMG BESTIE WHAT?!” followed by a crying emoji, whilst another use commented: “Sky Ferreira world domination.”

However, many fans were also sharing their frustrations over a lack of new material by the superstar. One person wrote: “Girl you’ve been touring the same album for 10 years”, and another person commented: “Girl how about you drop an album before these dates we’re starving”.

Sky, who last performed in the UK at the 2022 Meltdown Festival, released her latest single “Don’t Forget” last year. The track, which has over 3 million streams on Spotify, will be included on her up-coming sophomore album, Masochism. Her 2019 single, titled “Downhill Lullaby”, will also be part of the anticipated record.

Listen to “Don’t Forget”, below.

Sky’s last and only album was released over a decade ago. The project, Night Time, My Time, showcases Sky’s strength as an indie pop-rockstar and features 1990’s grunge and 80’s pop elements. The record, which is featured in many media publication’s best album lists of 2013, debuted at number 73 on the UK Albums Chart. Hits from the album include “Boys”, “I Blame Myself” and “You’re Not The One.”

The musician and model has been open about her struggles with delays with new material. Earlier this year, Sky expressed her frustrations on the subject and took to her Instagram stories to explain the hold-up. She said: “Being ‘difficult’ or ‘high strung’ doesn’t give people the right to damage & stall my career. I am in a difficult situation & I have to be ‘difficult’ to get through it. I have to protect my work & myself somehow? It’s not okay. If I’m not allowed to say something without consequence & the people who are supposed to do their job refuse to look out for me… How am I not going to be ‘difficult’?!?”

Fans of the singer have also expressed their feelings, with ‘Free Sky Ferreira’ banners flying over Capitol Records in Los Angeles.

Whilst fans will have to be patient for a little while longer for a new album, they can see her perform on her tour next year.

Tour Dates

David Bowie in 2002 who’s selection included Coldplay, Suede and The Waterboys. Last year Cure frontman Robert Smith picked a line up consisting of Death Cab For Cutie, The Libertines and Mogwai.
As a producer and artist Rodgers has contributed to over 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide. He has worked as part of Sister Sledge and Chic, with his late creative partner Bernard Edwards, and has collaborated with artists including David Bowie, for Let’s Dance (1983), and Madonna, for Like a Virgin (1984). Since the 1980s Rodgers has continually set and reset musical trends across genres, and he continues to stay relevant in today’s music scene, working with modern dance artists including Avici and Daft Punk.

When asked about Rodgers in the press release Bengi Ünsal, Senior Contemporary Music Programmer at Southbank Centre, said: “I am thrilled and honoured to welcome Nile Rodgers to Southbank Centre this August for the 26th Meltdown festival. Meltdown is the longest-running artist curated festival in the world and for 25 years has been celebrating those at the frontiers of music. It’s hard to overstate the impact that this year’s curator has had both as part of CHIC and as a solo producer on what we call popular music today. He is constantly creating and collaborating, and I can’t wait to see what he will create across our venues. One thing’s for certain: this will be the funkiest Meltdown yet.”

English indie-rock icons The Libertines played Meltdown Festival yesterday, and included in their set a cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”. Meltdown Festival is curated by a different artist every year, and 2018 saw The Cure’s frontman Robert Smith take over the role.

Previous Meltdown curators include Smith’s own inspirations and contemporaries, like David Bowie, and Morrissey, as well as legends from other genres like Elvis Costello, Yoko Ono, and Nick Cave. John Peel was also allowed to take the helm due to his legendary DJ status, though to this day he remains the first non-musician to have done so.

Robert Smith’s Meltdown line-up includes big names and underground acts alike, and spans a wide range of genres from post-punk and rock, to indie and emo, to experimental metal, synth acts and singer-songwriters. Stand-outs include Death Cab For Cutie, Nine Inch Nails, Manic Street Preachers and The Joy Formidable.

As for The Libertines, their set included everything from their earliest work to their biggest hits, with The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” sitting somewhere in the middle. Chances are they won’t be the only band to pay tribute to the singer who asked them to join the festival’s line-up, as the festival lasts a whopping nine days and includes a variety of venues, workshops and acts.

Many of the largest acts gracing London’s Southbank Centre during Meltdown have already sold out, but plenty others still have tickets available. You can find the events that still have spaces and buy tickets here. Those with tickets can also catch The Cure at their 40th anniversary headline set at Barclays British Summer Time Festival.
