Grime legend Stormzy has teamed up with McDonald’s for the UK and Ireland’s first ‘Famous Order’ meal.

The ‘Famous Order’ meal was an initiative set up by McDonald’s for fans to try the favourite order of their favourite artists. Known for its iconic concoction of McDonald’s classics, the ‘Famous Order’ has been a limited edition fixture on US menus, featuring the favourite orders of J Balvin, Travis Scott, Saweetie, BTS and Mariah Carey. Stormzy joins this legendary lineup, having the first ‘Famous Order’ to come out of the UK and Ireland.

The ‘Big For Your Boots’ performer will see his famous order drop on February 12. Consisting of 9 Chicken McNuggets, fries, two BBQ dips, a Sprite Zero and a choice of either an Oreo McFlurry or an Apple Pie – the meal will only set fans back £7.99.

Commenting on the upcoming collaboration, Stormzy stated: “I am so gassed for my McDonald’s order to be the first ever ‘Famous Order’ in the UK and Ireland. Never thought I’d have my own order on the official menu. That’s mad.”

Stormzy first gained traction within the underground music scene in the mid-2010s for his enticing freestyles over classic grime melodies. With three No. 1 albums, ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’, ‘Heavy Is The Head’ and ‘This Is What I Mean’, the first of which achieving the status of the first grime album to ever reach the top spot, Stormzy has taken the world by storm, with his clever wordplay and bodacious flow. Most recently, the Croydon legend collaborated with Chase & Status for ‘BACKBONE’ a high-energy electronic-grime anthem, up for ‘Song Of The Year’ at this year’s BRIT Awards.

Stormzy’s icon status means he’s more than a worthy person to have the UK and Ireland’s first ‘Famous Order’ meal. Ben Fox, McDonald’s UK & Ireland Chief Marketing Officer, said: “Stormzy is a McDonald’s fan through and through, and a true global icon. This makes him the perfect superstar to bring to life the fact that no matter how famous you are, everyone has a favourite, go to, McDonald’s order. Introducing Stormzy’s signature order is an incredible moment for the brand; two icons colliding, giving everyone the chance to eat just like Big Mike at McDonald’s and, if they are lucky, to nab some exclusive branded merch.”

As specified by Fox, Stormzy’s limited edition set-meal isn’t the only thing fans can get their hands on from February 12.

McDonald’s and Stormzy superfans will also get the opportunity to earn themselves some exclusive merch via the McDonald’s app, which includes pin badges, posters and a tumbler. For those local to the ‘Vossi Bop’ performer’s hometown Croydon, fans will be able to get order Stormzy’s ‘Famous Order’ meal two days prior to its national release on February 10.

With the UK missing out on their festivals this year, McDonalds has decided to put on their own live music virtual festival, ‘I’m Loving It,’ with a super line up from UK music artists including, ‘Jess Glynne, Becky Hill, Stormzy, Craig David, Lewis Capaldi, Olly Murs and Kaiser Chiefs.’ The virtual music party is set to take place between Friday 30th October until Sunday 1st November.

The event is going to be free to view via the, ‘My McDonalds App,’ with family sessions being available on the family website. The UK has missed their live music scene this year and with the restrictions getting tighter again due to the pandemic, the popular fast food chain has put together a weekend of live music to lift the spirits of music lovers.

The festival will open on Friday with live performances from female pop stars, ‘Jess Glynne’ and ‘Becky Hill.’ Saturday will see pop band, ‘Kaiser Chiefs,’ take the centre stage along with, ‘Craig David,’ and ‘Olly Murs.’ The show go out with a bang as pop star, ‘Lewis Capaldi’ an rap legend ‘Stormzy’ headline the show.

This is going to be a treat for Stormzy fans as he had to cancel his ‘Heavy is the Head’ tour in March due to the pandemic. His rescheduled tour is set to take place in the UK in April 2020.

Make sure you don’t miss I’m Lovin’ it Live! Tap ❤️ and we’ll Tweet you a reminder just before each show is about to start. pic.twitter.com/gF7hFrilbv

Michelle Graham-Clare who works for McDonalds in the VP Food and Beverage, Product Development and marketing sector for the company said, “We know the new normal is tough on everyone. I’m Lovin’ it Live is our way of saying thank you to our people and to our customers for all their support this year. Hopefully our week of good things and good times offers something for everyone from families looking for fun to music fans missing the gig scene.” – The Mirror

McDonalds has done a lot this year including teaming up with the, ‘End the Child Poverty Campaign,’ and funding the provision of ‘One Million Meals,’ in the coming weeks through their partnership. In addition the fast food chain is going to be hosting football sessions with legend Peter Crouch as well as lioness England footballer Lucy Bronze. They are also planning a reading club with pop star children’s author Tom Fletcher.

The meals that will be distributed in the coming weeks will support Marcus Rashford’s campaign for ‘Free School Meals,’ in the UK as families struggle with the ongoing pandemic, which the footballer has been urging the government to extend over the half term period.

McDonalds have been slated this year as the Bank of America have stated they are, “tired of their own cooking,” -Business Insider. As the pandemic movers into a deeper stage of turmoil, the company have proven themselves and shown their support through the current crisis.
