Irish-English Alternative Rock band My Bloody Valentine has announced their first concert since 2018. The group has taken to social media to surprise fans with a 2025 scheduled date in Dublin, the city where the band originally formed, at the 3Arena.

The concert will be taking place on November 22, 2025. The band hasn’t yet confirmed whether this gig will be a part of a bigger tour or a stand-alone date. Nevertheless, fans are excited to see the group on the stage again after seven years.

The band first formed in Dublin in the early 1980s, but initially struggled to gain success. They changed management multiple times and attempted releases which always failed to catch the public’s attention. But this changed after they signed with Creation Records and released a few extended plays which turned out quite successful, and finally their first full-length studio album in 1988 titled “Isn’t Anything” which included the single “Feed Me with Your Kiss”.

In 1991, My Bloody Valentine released “Loveless” which is generally seen as their best piece of work. It was preceded by two Eps, released in 1990 and 1991, titled respectively “Glider” and “Tremolo”. “Loveless” included the single “Only Shallow”, which was released with a music video that shows the band performing the song. “Loveless” peaked at number seven on the UK official charts, with the song “To Here Knows When”, off the album, peaked at number 29.

The band took a long hiatus which eventually culminated in the release of the record “MBV” in 2013, over two decades later. “MBV” was welcomed with the public’s acclaim and high markings from critics, and peaked at number 29 on UK charts. A tour also followed the release of the album, which included a few dates in East Asia, Australia and North America. The UK leg of the tour consisted in three dates: they played Barrowland in Glasgow, O2 Apollo in London, Hammersmith Apollo in London.

Earlier in 2021, while promoting new re-releases, My Bloody Valentine have confirmed that they are working on new music. They have recently signed with Domino Recording Company, a new management that has made their music available on all streaming platforms.

Shortly after this, however, the band accused the platform Spotify of showing different lyrics for their songs from what was actually being sung in their albums, stating on a now-deleted twitter post that they felt it was “insulting”.

My Bloody Valentine will be back on the stage in November 2025, for a much-anticipated date in Dublin. For anyone signing up to the band’s newsletter, there will be a special presale; general tickets will be available and on sale from November 29, at 10:00 am.

After their up for interpretation announcement two days ago, the date in question has arrived, revealing that My Bloody Valentine’s full discography has been uploaded to streaming services. Some of the bands material including their adored 1991 ‘Loveless’ album was previously on streaming, but were removed from the likes of Spotify with no word from the band in 2019. Fans were left speculating as to why the music was stripped off their regions service.

After the teaser, the 31st March date arrived to the joy of many fans. Midnight found the release of all three My Bloody Valentine albums on to streaming, along with their EP compilation spanning the years of work from 1988-1991. It was soon evident that the band had been preparing more than just streaming availability for this day, as it was revealed on an Instagram post that they would be repressing all their albums to vinyl including a CD restock arriving 21st May. This came in the same announcement confirming the rumours that the band had signed to Domino Records, home to many pioneering faces of UK music including Blood Orange, Jon Hopkins and Anna Calvi.

This move added fuel to the fire in response to the bands long awaited fourth studio album. Guitarist/vocalist Bilinda Butcher was not shy to give an update to The New York Times in an interview on the progress of new music, saying “patience is a virtue in this band”, with frontman Kevin Shields also providing insight, stating “Our original plan was we would record both the albums back-to-back and then go tour on that. And that would have been this year, you know, but everything really did slow down.” Crushing news to learn that their process was delayed, but promising news nonetheless as fans are provided with an update on the potential release of two new albums. With no release date set for these projects yet listeners will be making do with the gift of streaming, something that will more than quench their thirst in the meantime.

Currently comprising of vocalist/guitarists Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher, drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig and bassist Debbie Googe, the band, spanning nationalities of English, Irish and American first came onto the scene in the 80s. After a string of unsuccessful extended plays, the band changed their roster around until they struck gold with their debut album ‘Isn’t Anything’ released in 1988 on Creation Records. After this album a sound was defined, incorporating dream-pop, post-punk and lo-fi styles with noisy reverb filled guitars. This sound would later go on to be defined by journalists as Shoegaze, and their follow up album would only cement them further in the new established genre. ‘Loveless’ arrived in 1991, to mass acclaim, going on to become a cult classic record in the niche world of shoegazing at the time. After this album, the band struggled to produce further albums amongst their success after signing to Island Records. They ended up parting ways for the majority of the late 90s and early 00s, only to reunite with their self-titled work ‘m b v’ in 2013.

That brings us to the present day. With an out of the blue announcement containing the date 31/03, accompanied by the 2013 track ‘Only Tomorrow’ being released on Instagram last night along with a website and mailing list, fans instantly started speculating. The most popular theory is that of their full discography being released onto streaming services, after they were removed abruptly approximately two years ago. As well as this, it was suggested that the band had signed to Domino Records, an exciting change for the band along with the prospect of all-new music in production, with possible vinyl re-pressings also in conversation amongst social media users. Although new music is just a speculation, a fourth album has been confirmed to be in the works by Kevin Shields from as early as 2017.
