Following the release of her 2021 debut album, You Signed Up For This. Masie Peters has joined forces with Matt Maltese for a special new version of “Cate’s Brother”. Peters is currently midway through the extensive UK and European stadium tour in support of Ed Sheeran.

The new version sees a much more stripped back imagining of the previously upbeat and rebellious hit. Featuring the pensive melodic stylings of Matt Maltese on the piano and an overall more confessional tone. In this case, Maltese formed a duet to complete this tender teenage love story. When announcing the new track, Peters declared; “Matt became Cate’s brother and I can think of no one better suited to the job we are excited for u to hear it,”.

Have a listen to the new version of “Cate’s Brother” in the video down below:

For her hit debut album, Peters was signed by Gingerbread Man Records which is owned by none other than Ed Sheeran. Peters confessed a long-time admiration for the globe conquering artist, stating; “Signing to Gingerbread is a dream come true,” Peters said in a statement. “I grew up inspired and in awe of Ed, like many other 13-year-olds who heard ‘Lego House’ for the first time, so it’s kind of amazing and hard to believe that I get to be the 21-year-old who is able to call him and the whole Gingerbread team now friends, family and mentors for life.”

With over 4 million monthly listeners tuning in to stream the 22-year-old singer, Ed Sheeran sang her praises, saying; “She’s a very special artist who continues to push her storytelling in new directions, we had a few great writing sessions together and from there I knew I had to work with her.”

However, this isn’t the only instance of a whopping celebrity endorsement for young Masie Peters. Taylor Swift exclaimed; “My ears have been blessed” in regards to this budding talent.

Matt Maltese has been blending the lines of indie since his first song “Even if it’s a lie” which he first released on Soundcloud back in 2015. Ever since In A New Bed EP, Maltese has been setting himself apart from the crowd, not least in part due to his big personality and humour, which ring out loud in his first album Bad Contestant (2018). Matt’s second record Krystal (2019) have proven Matt Maltese is an incredible multi-instrumentalist, through the more sensitive subtle take on his sound. Especially during the “Ballad of the pandemic” which saw him vocalise Covid-19 on the very day the UK went into lockdown back in 2020. Having written and recorded his latest album during that very pandemic, we are sure it will bleed itself into isolation of the song writing for it.

A hopeful album, Good Morning It’s New Tomorrow, written during last years lockdown during the pandemic, explores the same groundedness and vulnerability of Matt Maltese. similar to the feeling shared on Krystal. Moving forward with leaving the humour behind in favour of sincere songwriting. After singles “Mystery”, “Shoe”, “You Deserve An Oscar”, and “Good Morning”, Maltese built excitement for Good Morning It’s New Tomorrow.
Making clear lines between albums, the development of Matt Maltese can be seen vividly as he stretches out his hands into the hopeful chorus of “Good Morning”. With its eccentric album cover, the concept of the album rings true in every inch. Get your copy of Good Morning It’s New tomorrow on Matt Maltese’s website to get it printed on vinyl for the perfect listening experience here.

DIY has been a staple publication within the Indie UK music scene for a while now. Like its name suggests, DIY was started in founding member Stephen Ackroyd’s University bedroom with limited resources. Since then it has become one of the most highly regarded UK music publications, boasting cover-features from the likes of Mike Skinner, Biffy Clyro and Wolf Alice.

Such an evolution can be owed to the hard work and passion of DIY’s contributors, as well as their ability to stay on the cutting edge by helping emerging artists gain recognition. The ‘Get to Know‘ section of their website promises to get readers ‘a little bit closer to the buzziest new acts‘. With features such as musical prodigy Alfie Templeman and the new Bristolian ‘heavy pop trio’ INDIGOS, it certainly succeeds in its aim.

The ‘100th Issue Party‘ will commence with a live performance from Matt Maltese on the 8th September. Maltese has been a recurring presence on the pages of DIY since his first EP was released back in 2016. He was recently interviewed by them on his new EP Madhouse which came out on the 7th August. This interview saw Matt open up about, amongst other things, being dropped by Atlantic Records; and when the interviewer teasingly asks ‘Are you saying you’re cute Matt?’ it serves as a perfect example of how DIY mag often uses humour to make their features more personal and entertaining.

Matt posted on his instagram that he was looking forward to playing his ‘first gig in years celebrating @diymagazine 100th issue!’. On the following evening, 9th September, raucous indie-rock band Black Honey will take the stage. They too shared their enthusiasm on Instagram, stating ‘Woooahhh Can’t believe this is happening!’.

The week of live performances will surely be a joyous occasion, and it’s fair to say that DIY certainly deserves to celebrate such an impressive legacy!

The 22-year-old South London singer will make his hotly anticipated return with new album, ‘Krystal’, on the 8th of November 2019. The announcement comes after the singer announced he will be hitting the road for a short headline tour, in November 2019.

Maltese will head across the UK on a short five-date headline tour, this November. The singer will kick start his short tour off, in Cardiff, on the 16th of November 2019. He will then head to Leeds, Manchester, and London, before he concludes the tour with a show, in Bristol, on the 30th of November 2019.

Maltese has also given fans a glimpse of his upcoming album by sharing the lead track, ‘Rom Com Gone Wrong’. The release of the track was accompanied by a video, which has got fans even more excited.

The video for ‘Rom Com Gone Wrong’ is directed by Craig Roberts, who is best known for his lead role in the Richard Ayoade penned and Alex Turner soundtrack Submarine. It has been described as a “dreamy video shot on a Pride & Prejudice-esque set that takes a lols look at the behind the scenes process of making a music video.”

Speaking about the video and his partnership with Roberts, Maltese, said: “I tried writing some music for one of Craig’s films which inadvertently introduced him to my music and we struck up an online friendship. We realised we both have this kind of awkward sense of humour which lent itself well to a video for Rom Com Gone Wrong’.

“The idea was to create a sort of ‘making of a music video’ music video where I play the part of someone who’s disillusioned with their own music video and doesn’t get on with the director. Basically a music video gone wrong.”

Speaking about the record, with NME, Maltese explained that the record’s emotional core was formed from the experiences of his own break-up.

“A lot of the songs on this record are expressing heartbreak, and it documents a relationship but also brings in my past experiences of who I am,” Maltese tells NME. “It’s hard to know how much of it is too soon, a lot of it was probably expressed quite soon after, but a lot of it is talking about things that happened years ago. It’s a mix of the intense feelings, but remembering the past with perspective and a sense of calmness.”

As for the record itself, Maltese explained how he wanted to “strip things back” – in contrast to the cinematic sound of his debut record, ‘Bad Contestant’.

Matt Maltese Headline Tour Dates 2019:
