Formed in 2014, Maruja’s sound takes influence from art-rock, post-punk and alternative jazz genres. Despite releasing music for almost a decade now, the band started gaining real traction within the UK music landscape in 2023, with their EP ‘Knocknarea’.

It was this EP that lead the band to sign with Uk independent label, Music For Nations, in 2024. Following this, Maruja released their next EP, ‘Connla’s Well’, to much critical acclaim, with Our Culture Mag awarding the EP the number four spot on their 25 Best EPs of 2024 list.

Maruja will perform twice on Thursday night at Glastonbury, firstly on the Strummerville stage at 23:00 and then making their way over to the Bimble Inn for a 01:30 performance. This isn’t the first time the band have made the pilgrimage from Manchester down to Worthy Farm; they performed on the BBC Introducing stage in 2024.

Glastonbury comes at the start of what’s is to be a very busy summer for Maruja, as they announce a schedule that sprawls all over Europe and concludes with a set at Northampton festival, Shambala – a first time appearance for the band.

In anticipation of this busy summer schedule, Maruja have announced the release of their debut album ‘Pain to Power’, which is to be released on the September 12 this year, on Music For Nations. 

The band recently released the debut single, ‘Look Down On Us’ from the upcoming record, which has already seen praise from the likes of Anthony Fantano, a popular online music commentator, who has previously praised Maruja’s single ‘Break The Tension’, a song that also features on the upcoming album

After the release of the album, Maruja will set off on a tour around the UK & Ireland, before finishing the year with a short stretch of dates around Europe. All tour dates and information are available here.
