In a collaboration no one saw coming, legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has announced Machine Gun Kelly’s upcoming album, ‘Lost Americana’.

The surprising endorsement bridges generations and genres, pairing one of folk rock’s most iconic voices with a modern artist known for his genre-bending evolution from rap to pop-punk. While their artistic styles may seem worlds apart, Dylan’s involvement hints at a deeper creative connection – or at least mutual admiration – that’s been quietly developing behind the scenes. This unexpected crossover has already stirred conversations across the music world, raising anticipation for what ‘Lost Americana’ might reveal about MGK’s next artistic chapter.

In a teaser video uploaded to MGK’s social media, Dylan is heard calling the upcoming album “a personal excavation of the American dream.” “It’s a sonic map of forgotten places, a tribute to the spirit of reinvention and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom,” says Dylan over a video montage of MGK in the studio and looking out into the mountains. “From the glow of neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. Where the past is reimagined, and the future is forged on your own terms.”

MGK has yet to publicly confirm Dylan as the narrator for these clips, teasing his fans with social media captions ending in ‘narrated by…’. He has also shared a photo of Dylan to his Instagram without making any declarative statements.

This isn’t the first time the unlikely duo has captured headlines together. In February Dylan shared footage from 2016 of MGK performing an acoustic set at record shop Park Ave CDs store in Orlando, Florida. Last month, MGK claimed he met Dylan “all because of a video of me rapping in a music store 10 years ago”. Their paths crossed once more when MGK made an appearance onstage during the LA stop of Willie Nelson’s ‘Outlaw Music Festival Tour’ – which Dylan is currently headlining. It appears the two have been cultivating a relationship – or perhaps even a musical partnership – for some time now.

‘Lost Americana’ marks the 7th studio album of the part-rapper part-rocker. ‘Lost Americana’ is the follow-up to MGK’s 2022 album ‘Mainstream Sellout‘ and is set to release on August 8th. The record includes previously released single ‘cliché’. The single showcased the artist’s return to a more pop-punk style featuring a stripped-back guitar and raw vocals. As the title suggests, the track embraces clichés but with a sense of genuine self-awareness and emotional urgency. The single ‘cliché’ also contains allusions to rock legend Bob Dylan with lyrics “Baby, I’m a rolling stone”.

The left-field collaboration sits somewhere between strange and genius promising that the release of ‘Lost Americana’ won’t go unnoticed. You can now pre-save ‘Lost Americana’ on all streaming sites, the link can be accessed here.

Yungblud spoke to the PA news agency regarding additional safety measures he has planned to put in place to prevent physical harm directed at fans. He said, “We’re basically building our stage like it is at a festival, we’re putting a runway down the middle of it, to split the crowd out because I know a lot of people feel unsafe because like my gigs go f****** nuts.”

In more than 20 countries, Yungblud has performed to sold-out crowds, noticeable places from London’s Alexandra Palace to The Shrine in Los Angeles.
In 2021, he covered David Bowie’s “Life On Mars” which was chosen by NASA as the soundtrack for the one-tonne Perseverance rover’s landing on Mars, which was live-streamed on YouTube. The rendition of the track coming from the singer gained massive attention from NASA, following his performance of it as a part of a tribute event online called A Bowie Celebration: Just for One Day.

Also on the line-up amongst the aforementioned headliners are English indie rockers Sea Girls, American singer and rapper Iann Dior and singer-songwriter Clairo.

Lollapalooza is undeniably one of the most well-known festivals in the world right now; whilst the event took its genesis in Grant Park in Chicago, its success has spawned a plethora of spin-off events and expansion to several other countries outside of the USA, including Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France and Israel. The festival was originally conceived in 1990 by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell and a number of other individuals such as artist manager Ted Gardner and music executive Marc Gieger.

The festival originally began as a touring event upon its founding in 1991, but later settled on Chicago as a permanent venue. The festival actually declined in popularity in the late 1990s, so much so that the 1998 iteration of the event was cancelled, as no suitable headliner could be found. Lollapalooza was revived in 2003, and whilst it struggled with low ticket sales and even another cancellation, by 2006, the festival was experiencing much more success, with Capital Sports and Entertainment and the Chicago Park District agreeing to a five-million-dollar deal lasting five years, that would keep Lollapalooza in Grant Park until 2011. This was extended to 2018 after a very successful event in 2008.

The festival has long been inclusive of many different genres of music, initially playing host to rock icons of the 1990s such as The Butthole Surfers, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Soundgarden, and then in later iterations featured artists such as Waylon Jennings and The Prodigy.

The German version of the festival commenced in September 2015 after an announcement in 2014 and has been held in Olympia Park since 2018.

Regardless of whether or not you like his music, his antics, or his general presence in society – it’s quite hard to ignore the fact that Machine Gun Kelly is, in fact, one of the more prolific artists in rock music today. With the resurgence in pop-punk gaining ever more traction, MGK’s sound has morphed into something that sits quite nicely alongside a bunch of artists that are all re-joining the scene; Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, everyone at When We Were Young Festival spring to mind. Today, MGK announced his ‘Mainstream Sellout’ tour, which will take him all through North America and Europe, as well as a short stint of dates in the UK. See here for full tour information.

With additional support coming from iann dior and 44phantom, the European leg of the tour doesn’t seem to have attracted as much attention as the US side – that with the inclusion of Avril Lavigne, Travis Barker, PVRIS, and a bunch of other big names. That being said, the inclusion of iann dior alone could make the tour worth a visit. But if MGK’s recent string of collab heavy singles is anything to go by – ‘Ay’ with Lil Wayne, ‘Emo Girl’ with Willow Smith and ‘maybe’ ft. Bring Me The Horizon – then there may be a few surprises up his sleeve regardless of official support. The album’s full tracklist has a bunch of other surprising features, you can check them out, and pre-order the album, here. You can listen to ‘Maybe’ below.

Despite the fact that the album is yet to drop (in theory it’ll be with us this Friday, March 25th), it has still attracted a fair amount of attention over the last few weeks. Other than his verbal fisticuffs with myriad people, the most notable beef could be the very loose feud with Korean-American experimental-pop star Japanese Breakfast and the apparent plagiarism of her most recent album Jubilee. Rolling Stone seemingly tried to get the beef started after MGK revealed the cover to Mainstream Sellout a few weeks ago. But it was quickly downplayed by both MGK and Japanese Breakfast’s leading lady Michelle Zauner, with Kelly even going so far as to thank Rolling stone for introducing him to the album.

so should we beef over tomato’s or…should i thank them for introducing me to your album, because i just listened and i really like it

London’s hottest festival, ALT- LDN, is days away from hosting Architects, Playboi Carti, and so many other big names racing to showcase their music released during the lockdown. With bands like Sleep Token rearing up to their new album, Wargasm still hot on the Download Hype, and The Kid Laroi who is yet to play the new song Stay, which features Justin Bieber, in Britain. However, just on the heels of pulling out of Reading and Leeds, Machine Gun Kelly has been forced to pull out of the event. MGK, who has made a name for his outlandish reimage as a pop-punk star, has been a highlight for many on British festival line-ups has been forced to drop all UK appearances. which in their press realize they stated this is “due to restrictions and logistics”.

He is not alone, however. Princess Nokia, Mario Judah, Lil Skies, and Chase Atlantic, are among others forced to drop out by the Coronavirus restrictions pressing down on traveling artists. To the joy, or sadness, of fans, artists are being brought in last minute to cover for those forced to drop out. With bands like Blossoms being brought in to cover stage times, festivals all across the UK are feeling the effects of the virus. With Slamdunk recently suffering at the hands of it, it was clear that Reading and Alt+Ldn were doomed to be next.

Yungblud has dropped another treat for his fans last night with the official music video for ‘acting like that,’ featuring Machine Gun Kelly premiering on his Youtube channel last night to be watched by his 2 million subscribers and more. The video has a zombie apocalypse theme with a short acted intro between the two singers who have woken up at the end of a bender to find the world consumed with the undead. The video then cuts to scenes of Machine Gun Kelly performing the first section of the song which features his vocals for the verse and first chorus.

Yungblud is seen throughout the first part of the video partying on a bus in the midst of the chaos before taking over the vocal duties at the song’s midway point. The video frequently cuts back to Kelly throughout the song’s second section where he continues to sing and play his guitar alongside his drummer with only a wire fence keeping undead at bay. The song has quickly been taking off across the internet with the Youtube video already picking up 741,775 views and reaching #14 on trending already.

The video ends with Yungblud himself transformed into one of the undead and, while the choice of video isn’t necessarily relevant to the song’s lyrics, it is certainly a lot of fun to watch and a cheeky poke of fun at the current situation the world finds itself in. ‘acting like that,’ is available to stream as a single on all platform and is also one of the tracks from Yungblud’s number 1 album ‘weird!’ which was released in December 2020. The album’s success has teleported Yungblud out of the insular British Indie scene and onto the world stage, with transAtlantic collaborations with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly have certainly helped him to get there.

The ‘acting like that,’ production is a slight outlier on the ‘weird!’ album with the collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly leading to the adoption of some Rap elements such as in the verse which is typical of Trap style beats in its rhythm while the chorus contrasts by following a more conventional Rock approach which pushes the song forwards where the the verse pulls it back and makes space. The collaboration is a unique one which adds a great deal of flavour to the album by not only blending the genres of Rock and Rap but also by allowing for a clash of cultures by allowing the perspectives of an American rapper and a British singer to be heard with equal importance.

With the possibility of live music in Britain this year still heavily in question, Yungblud’s fans will surely be appreciative of this video which contains at least some of the energy of a live show in its explosive delivery and with a lot of effort clearly being made to make a video which not only supports the song but is also interesting enough to enjoy as an art piece in its own right.

Yungblud has collaborated with Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker on the new single Acting Like That. The track will feature on the upcoming Yungblud album weird! , which is scheduled to be released this Friday, December 4th. This will be Yungblud’s second full-length album and has already seen the release of singles including Strawberry Lipstick, Cotton Candy, Mars, God Save Me but Don’t Drown Me Out and weird!.

This is the first collaborative track on the album and was released to UK audiences yesterday with a Twitter announcement from Yungblud. The track was released early for fans then originally scheduled. Machine Gun Kelly and Barker have been working on new music together throughout 2020 and therefore have teamed up together to feature on Acting Like That.

The track is a combination of the rock&roll genre and the newly popular grunge style, the energy is undeniable and suits Yungblud’s weird! track-list precisely. The three artists have a known friendship and their collaboration is a dream come true for fans.

This is not the first time Yungblud has worked with these artists, having released the single 11 Minutes with Halsey and Travis Barker in 2019 to tremendous success. In the same year, I Think I’m OKAY was released by Machine Gun Kelly, another collaboration which featured Barker as well.

Throughout 2020, among the announcement of his upcoming album and the release of numerous singles and music videos for such, Yungblud was also nominated for four NME awards: Best British Solo Act, Best Music Video for Original Me, Best Solo Act in the World and Best Collaboration also for Original Me. He went on to win “Best Music Video” for Original Me.
