In a bid to go green and push the envelope on their “eco-conscious attitude”, Bristol’s Love Saves The Day festival has followed in the footsteps of Glastonbury by banning single use plastics on site and even the use of glitter. The event which is set to take place at Ashton Court on June 2nd and 3rd has set out to cut out it’s environmental impact by 50 per cent come 2025. It comes in the wake of increasingly worrying scientific study indicating our implication in the ongoing environmental crisis. They join Glastonbury, and all festivals associated with the global promoter Live Nation such as Reading, Leeds, Wireless, Latitude, and Download festival in trying to combat the damage plastic is having on the planet.

It’s an admirable move and one that will likely cause a domino effect amongst other like minded festivals that haven’t caught on yet. In a statement on their website they say “We have signed up to the Drastic on Plastic pledge and will no longer be using single use plastic on our festival site. Due to being a single use plastic, and in-line with our sustainability policy and Love Saves Tomorrow ethos, glitter (including bioglitter) is now banned on site.” Say goodbye to any hopes of turning heads with that 70’s sparkle and shine then folks, it’s doubtful Ziggy Stardust would pass security with this mission statement.

The predominantly EDM led lineup will this year see the likes of Bicep, Chase & Status, Mura Masa, Korupt FM, and Caroline Polachek perform, with Arlo Parks and Easy Life also due to grace the stage for those after a slightly more organic touch. It will mark the festival’s 10 year anniversary and the first time they’ve based themselves in the iconic grounds of Ashton Court Estate. The festival will also be teaming up with Big Green Coach to help transport patrons to the grounds with as little carbon footprint as possible. There’s no intel currently on whether or not David Attenborough will be showing up at Love Saves The Day like he did when he surprised thousands getting up on the Pyramid Stage to praise Glastonbury’s green efforts in 2019, however if he doesn’t show I’m sure they’ll be doing the big man proud in his absence.

Bristol Festival ‘Love Saves The Day’ has announced that it will be changing its location for next year’s edition. The 2022 festival, which will take place on June 2 and 3 will mark its tenth-anniversary edition and the first at their new site Ashton Court Estate, an 860-acre site located just ten minutes from the city centre of Bristol.

This time it will also make use of a new Bank Holiday on June 3, introduced to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee. This year’s edition took place at a postponed later date last month at Clifton Downs, envisaged as a one-off location. Before that, since 2015 it had been held at Eastville Park and first took place at Castle Park in 2012.

In a video shared on their social media showing off their new grounds, the festival runners made an announcement “2022 will be our most ambitious event to date, expect bigger lineups, increased production, even more stages, more work with local communities and everything in our hearts – because Love Saves The Day.”

Ben Jackson part of the team who runs Love Saves the day added in an interview with Mixmag: “It’s going to allow us to really expand the event in so many ways; bigger and more spectacular stages, bigger capacities and the biggest line-ups we’ve ever had, and we get the bonus of an extra-long bank holiday.”

“The fact that the music and events industries have suffered so much over the past 18+ months has really made us think of ways that we can continue to support creatives and we endeavour to have that at the core of our mission and plans for the future.”

He then continued “That being said we are also striving to really draw focus and attention to doing more within our local community and really championing all the amazing music that is coming out of Bristol.”

This year’s edition of Love Saves The Day took place on September 4 and 5, and saw performances from acts such as Slowthai, Little Simz, Shy FX, Ben UFO, Honey Dijon, Hybrid Minds and Mella Dee and more to a crowd of 60,000.

Tickets for the newly located festival are already available for early bird release now. You can buy your tickets from the festival website here.
