In wake of Drunk Tank Pink, Shame shared Alphabet on September 10th, followed by Water In The Well on November 18th. Now, with Snow Day, fans are more pumped than ever for Shames’ intensely-anticipated record. 

Snow Day is an affecting, moving piece from Shame, who are famed for their riotous, punk-infused music. Needless to say, Snow Day is still a strong offering from the South London band. 

Snow Day opens with a melancholic guitar and minimal percussion. After an extended instrumental opening, frontman Charlie Steen sings poignant lyrics centred around nature.

Shames’ new release has a mood that alludes to old Joy Division. Sheen sings the pensive: “I’m turning my head from the wind/It’s cold but I’ve been colder/And as the dew seeps slowly through the holes and dampens my skin/I feel the sting of mother nature.”

In an official press release, Shame said Snow Day represents “a pivotal moment” of Drunk Tank Pink. Frontman Steen additionally revealed that the upcoming record explores themes of “the subconscious and dreams”. Steen elaborated on the meaning behind snow day in the press release. Steen stated that: “It’s a song about love that is lost and the comfort and displeasure that comes after you close your eyes, fall into sleep, and are forced to confront yourself”

Previously, it was revealed that Drunk Tank Pink was born from the difficulties that Shame faced during the first lockdown. After spending years on the road touring the world, Shame disclosed that lockdown was more than a difficult adjustment.

Steen said: “When you’re exposed to all of that for the first time you think you’re f****** indestructible. After a few years, you reach a point where you realise everyone needs a bath and a good night’s sleep sometimes.” Steen did not shy away from how lockdown affected him, saying: “You become very aware of yourself and when all of the music stops, you’re left with the silence. And that silence is a lot of what this record is about. The common theme when I was catching up with my mates was this identity crisis everyone was having. No one knows what the f*** is going on.”

Shame premiered the lyric video to Snow Day on their official YouTube channel earlier today. Filmed by Starkey Reay, the monochrome video features a montage of rural landscapes split into two vintage-looking screens. Shames’ bright pink lyrics dominate the screen, an artistic contrast to the black and white background. The lyric video to Snow Day can be watched in full here.

Meanwhile, in celebration of Drunk Tank Pink, Shame have announced plans to hit the road next year. The rock quintet will embark on a tour in February 2021, where they will play a string of social distanced shows.
