Singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright has shared a mesmerising live video of her version of Rufus Wainwright’s “Dinner at 8”. You can view the video at the link below, and you can stream Love Will Be Reborn Deluxe here.

Last month, Wainwright released her highly anticipated memoir Stories I Might Regret Telling You, which found its way to The National Best Sellers list in just one week. In addition to the memoir, Martha released the digital deluxe edition of her latest album Love Will be Reborn on April 8th of this year. The five additional tracks featured on the deluxe edition are discussed in the memoir; these include four covers of songs written by members of her family, and a re-imagined version of the title track.

Speaking of the new tracks on the deluxe edition, Wainwright said, according to a recent press release: “Recorded at URSA in front of a small audience of friends, these are songs that I talk about in my memoir Stories I Might Regret Telling You. They relate to family and its complexity, as well as pain, feelings of loss, and ultimately forgiveness and acceptance. I have heard them my whole life and now I have the chance to sing them. Recorded in a live setting and in a very stripped down and exposed way, with my good friend and wonderful piano player Edwin de Goeij, we had only just learned to sing and play them and are exploring with the listener in the moment. A sometimes bumpy and emotional ride, these recordings are about the words and the meaning. The songs speak for themselves and they are songs of our time about modern family and some of the trials of life.”

Martha Wainwright is the daughter of renowned folk musicians Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III, and is the sister of acclaimed singer and pianist Rufus Wainwright.

Wainwright’s most recent studio album Love Will Be Reborn was made during the pandemic, and was recorded in Montreal, Wainwright’s hometown. Wainwright will be returning to the UK this summer to play a run of eight shows across the country, including a stop at London’s Cadogan Hall on July 27th.

Enter Shikari shared a special ‘Live From Home’ video of the energetic single ‘The Great Unknown‘ from their hugely successful sixth album Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible. The video premiered yesterday as a Boxing Day gift for all fans of the Hertfordshire alternative metal outfit. The single was first released on 10 April just a week prior to the record drop, with its official video landing on 12 May to promote it. The premiere comes just over a week after the band also released the bizarre vizualization for ‘T.I.N.A.‘ as the third official video from their last album following ‘{The Dreamer’s Hotel}‘ and ‘The Great Unknown‘.

The quartet shared the video yesterday with the following message: “Its been hard to keep the creative energy up in 2020 (and we’ve still got no interest in doing a livestream show). So, since we’re all stuck at home, we got some green screens and created our own digital environments for this next set of #BroadcastsFromTheInterruption.”

As described, the new video is an entirely self-made production, recorded and filmed live at the musicians’ homes over Christmas. The audio mixing was done by singer Rou Raynolds, with video editing and additional animation by lead guitarrist Rory “C” Clewlow. Credits for the original studio version of the track, and the entirety of Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible goes to the band for composition and arrangement, and a stelar production, engineering and mixing team lead by the renowned Dan Weller and Dan Lancaster.

Over the course of the unusual 2020 Enter Shikari were forced to play many videos from home, restricted by government guidelines to perform their memorable shows for live audience. Particularly active back in May, the band shared live home videos such as the ‘Sunday Brunch’ version of ‘Satelites* *‘ and also took part of the first Five4Five online festival as a symbollic headliner in support of the NHS Charities. A social media post from few days ago teased ‘The Great Unknown‘ live release as the first of the #BroadcastsFromTheInterruption series of home performances, premiering as a “festive gift” by Rory C on 26 December with more expected to follow.

Rory C made you a festive gift. You can open it 26.12.20. The first offering from a series of live at home recordings. Until then, we hope everyone has a great day tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/rTJNsbmcTA — ENTER SHIKARI (@ENTERSHIKARI) December 24, 2020

Few days ago Roy Raynolds joined Luke Morton from Kerrang! for an exclusive cover story discussing the impact of the strange year for the band and the album release. The frontman went on to describe the unfamiliar situation of dropping a brand new record right at the peak of the global pandemic: “It was right at the beginning of lockdown, so it was very odd. We released an album that got our highest chart position, the biggest album of our career, just as the world was going to shit. It was such a strange cocktail of emotions. There was a lot of guilt involved: here we were making art and celebrating our biggest achievement while everything around us was crumbling.”

Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible premiered on 17 April and did go on to become their record-breaking album peaking at #2 at the UK Album Charts. As the opening track of the record, ‘The Great Unknown‘ currently has over 3,5 million streams on Spotify and over 200,000 views on YouTube. Aside from buying the album here, fans of Enter Shikari still have a chance to win exclusive personalised gifts from two online raffles. A £5 donation for the Teenage Cancer Trust’s ‘Christmas Rocks’ initiative has a chance of winning a signed copy of any of the band’s LPs, while at the same time there is still one day left to enter the prize draw for a signed drumskin, organised by the Five4Five festival in support of the Save Our Venues campaign.

Southampton metalcore outfit Bury Tomorrow shared a brand new video for ‘The Grey (VIXI)‘ with exclusive live footage from their Black Flame Tour in December last year. The single originally came out in November 2019 as the very first single of their latest record Cannibal that was later released in April this year to huge success and predominantly positive reception from fans and critics alike. The original track premiere was accompanied by an official video, the first of three from the album alongside ‘Cannibal‘ and ‘Better Bellow‘.

In the absence of live events in 2020 and approaching the end of the chaotic year, this is as close as we are going to get to seeing Bury Tomorrow live soon, so the band premiered the video with the following uplifting message: “To end the year on a positive we wanted to share some of our best moments during the Black Flame tour, to remind us all how amazing the connection is, and to let you all know that we’re still here! Respect and love to all who listen.”

The new live video for ‘The Grey (VIXI)‘ was directed by Swedish videographer John Gyllhamn, having previously worked with the likes of Crystal Lake and Adept, as well as the main photographer during Bury Tomorrow’s Black Flame Tour. The concert run back in December 2019 covered seven shows in Portsmouth, Nottingham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester and London’s Roundhouse, and saw the band perform their previous record Black Flame in full. The album came out in July 2019 and was their first after signing for Sony’s renowned rock and metal labels Music For Nations, reaching #21 at the UK Albums Chart and #13 at the US Heatseekers Chart.

Its follow-up Cannibal was released earlier this year in July with slight delay due to the initial COVID-19 crisis. Without being able to tour in support for their sixth record, Bury Tomorrow still achieved their highest chart performance reaching #10 in the UK and naturally topping the UK Rock & Metal Chart at the time. A monumental and very personal project, Cannibal took the metalcore quintet a step further and received very positive reviews from all major media outlets.

The album easily made it to Top 20 of most Metal Hammer’s writers’ rankings and was also featured as one of Kerrang!’s 50 Greatest Albums of 2020 with the following statement: “Cannibal’s relentless energy and soaring melodies were classic Bury Tomorrow. It was altogether a bulkier, sharper, stronger beast – the mark of a band that continues to improve.” With ‘The Grey (VIXI)‘ easily being one of the most emotional and personal tracks of the record, the new video shows Bury Tomorrow at their very best – close to their fans in those iconic intimate gigs we all miss so much already.

If the situation in the UK returns to normal soon, there will be plenty of chances to see Bury Tomorrow live in 2021. After briefly touring Germany in April, the band is returning to England for their four rescheduled gigs in May. Just a few days later, the metalcore heavyweights are set to perform as one of the main support acts at the Slam Dunk Festival 2021 on 29 May in Leeds and 30 May in Hatfield Park, alongside While She Sleeps, NOFX, Billy Talent, State Champs and headliners Sum 41 and Don Broco.

Later in 2021, Bury Tomorrow are teaming up with August Burns Red, Miss May I and Thornhill for what is shaping to be “one of the best metalcore tours” of the year. The song is set to be included on her debut album ‘Build A Problem,’ which is set to be released on March 5th 2021. Dodie’s stripped back and calming approach to music is suitable for a Britain currently going through its second period of total lockdown, with millions of people currently stuck at home with very little to do, the calming sounds of dodie are a pleasant relief from the stresses and strains of the current situation.

While the simplistic approach of just a gentle guitar part combined with a moving vocal performance may seem like a stripped back approach for many artists. However, dodie’s sound is actually very similar to this seemingly raw performance even when the track has been fully produced and prepared for release. The official video for ‘Cool Girl,’ which premiered on Youtube on the 2nd of November, while some production tweaks such as string parts and backing vocals have been added, is in many ways very similar to this live performance and is mostly built around a very simple guitar part and simple, yet effective and very emotionally moving vocal lines.

Although ‘Build A Problem,’ will mark dodie’s first foray into the world of full length album making, she has hardly been inactive in the years running up to this moment, having released three relatively successful EP’s to date with her most recent effort, ‘Human,’ reaching as high as number five on the UK official album charts when it was released in 2019. This was her second top 10 effort with 2017’s ‘You,’ climbing as high as number 6. While her debut EP ‘Intertwined,’ only reached as far as number 35, this is still a pretty good achievement for a breakthrough artist in the relatively niche genre of indie-pop.

With ‘Build A Problem,’ set to release next March and with a follow up tour of the UK set to take place in September, it does seem to look like dodie may well be preparing the ground of a number 1 album. Depending on what other artists decide to release albums at a similar time and on how well dodie manages to promote the album and the following tour in the time before March, we may well be looking at a debut album landing at number one on the UK charts. Dodie does seem very appealing to a niche following which she has manage to build in the few years since she began releasing music and is certainly well versed in using the social media and other online tools which have proved so valuable to artists in this time of lockdown.
